Brazilian-born midfielder Marcelo Sarvas has had a fantastical journey within “the Beautiful Game,” beginning in his hometown of Sao Paulo, playing for the legendary Corinthians. From there, stops on teams in Sweden, Poland, and Costa Rica eventually led him to the United States, where he joined the Los Angeles Galaxy in David Beckham's final year with the team.In his first of four seasons playing with the Galaxy, Sarvas won the MLS Cup and got a close-up understanding of what it takes to play at the most elite levels through his conversations with Beckham. In this episode of “The Bear & the Ball,” Sarvas, who just signed a two-year contract to play indoor soccer with the Empyre Strikers of the MASL, takes us through his journey from playing to coaching, with some truly invaluable insights along the way.

COG MERCHANDISE (SCARVES, T-SHIRTS, BUTTONS, COASTERS): http://www.cornerofthegalaxy.com/SHOP COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- What did we see on Thursday? We saw actual live soccer being played by the LA Galaxy. And even though it was just a scrimmage, there was plenty to cover. That includes some questionable coaching decisions and some serious injury concerns. We're here to talk about it all! On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Eric Vieira discuss all the news surrounding the Galaxy, and what that means heading into the Orlando tournament. The guys will start by breaking down the split-squad scrimmage and what, if anything, could be taken from the mixed lineups and differing formations. But did Guillermo Barros Schelotto miss an opportunity to create more chemistry by not playing a starting XI, by not starting Chicharito and Cristian Pavon together? And could Schelotto already be on thin ice when it comes to his job security? Josh and Eric will also discuss the injuries to Chicharito and Joe Corona, as well as the surgery being had by Jonathan dos Santos that will see him miss the tournament. And why will the Galaxy be extra short-handed against Portland? Ask Corona! But the show moves from questionable moves to the absolute best moves, and the guys will discuss what having Juninho and Marcelo Sarvas joining the academy coaching staff could potentially do for player development. No Fourth of July Fireworks? Like you can't get Cozmo and a sparkler to keep the streak going? Finally, the guys will highlight the ongoing "bubble" issues that MLS is facing and why it's not a problem yet, but it could be a big enough problem soon to cancel the whole tournament. It's a packed show, with all the Galaxy news and info you ever wanted! So don't miss it!

COG STUDIOS, Calif. -- Have you ever said something and almost immediately regretted it? Well, I'm not sure "former" LA Galaxy midfielder and captain, Jermaine Jones, ever had that problem. And Jones' calm rant on his Instagram live show will give us plenty to talk about.  On today's show, your host Josh Guesman will, of course, have his reaction to Jones' inflammatory comments and why he seems to be coming about this with something that is the complete opposite of true. Do Galaxy fans only care about big name players? Does the city at large only care about big name players? Is there a difference when talking about supporters? Or is this all just one big misunderstanding? We'll get to the bottom of it for sure.  But first, Josh will tell you about three former Galaxy players who could be available and why the Galaxy might want to look in their direction when it comes to filling some of the 17 roster spots that are still open. Do the names Sean Franklin, Marcelo Sarvas, and Juninho send shivers up your spine? Then you'll want to listen and weigh-in on whether or not they should return to the club.  And of course, our featured guest on this offseason podcast is good-friend of the show Brian Dunseth. Dunny will talk about the LA Galaxy's failure of a season and why it's an especially large blow to the Galaxy's reputation in player development. If you were a Galaxy prospect, would you be eying LAFC across the hall?  It's a great discussion about the Galaxy and some of the big mistakes that were made or the talent that was misidentified on this roster over the years.  Not bad for an offseason podcast with little to talk about. We hope this podcast gets you into that December feeling and we'll be back soon with more of the very best Galaxy content we can muster.  Music Provided by Back Pocket Memory

Adam is on assignment somewhere west of here, so that means that there is no one to prevent Ben and Jason from embarking on a longer than average podcast! We first talk about the rainy affair that was D.C. United's loss to Real Salt Lake, and we open with how it just wasn't good enough; it was just adequate, and in MLS that just doesn't cut it. We also talk about their attack, and we have to talk about Marcelo Sarvas' brutal pass. We end by talking about the new guys and how they made Luciano Acosta play better than we've seen in awhile. In the second segment we talk about the upcoming game against the Colorado Rapids, which will be their first without Pablo Mastroeni; their whimsical coach was fired just yesterday. We talk about Shkelzen Gashi, the Video Assistant Referee controversy from their most recent game against FC Dallas, and the trade for Luis Gil. Give it a listen! We want to again thank everyone who has supported us on Patreon (patreon.com/filibuster) and who allow us to continue to make this show and make it better; if you want to help us, click the link and take a look!

We like doing a podcast more than we dislike reliving D.C. United's poor performance this week, so we are here for you. We open the show talking about the meetup that we are having on June 3rd, and you should definitely come to it. It's gonna be fun! Less fun was D.C. United's performance this weekend, and we open with the same position we've been opening with for awhile: the central midfield. Jason has some particularly bad stats about Marcelo Sarvas and Jared Jeffrey's performance in this game. We talk about David Accam's goal, the fact that, surprisingly, D.C. United did have a couple of chances, and the play of Steve Binrbaum and Bobby Boswell. We end by commemorating the return of Chris Korb, talk about the young players who could be making an impression, and wonder if new ideas or formations might help anything. In the second segment, we make the major announcement that we have been teasing: We're starting a Patreon! The link will be up soon, and we would appreciate it if those who could threw in a couple of bucks to help us record the show and to take it to the next level. But don't worry; this show isn't going anywhere. We then talk about the Vancouver Whitecaps game this Friday, including their inconsistency and the fact that they'll have to replace Matias Laba. We also investigate their attack and defense, before breaking down what D.C. United can do against them. Give it a listen!

Unfortunately, we have to talk about this game. Adam, Jason, and Ben are back to pick up the pieces after D.C. United's demolition at the hands of the Philadelphia Union. We talk about the disaster and try and figure out what happened to United. We ask if teams can use the blueprint that the Montreal Impact and the Union have used, fouling the crap out of United, to keep beating them. And we have to talk about Philadelphia's goals, the play of Jared Jeffrey and Marcelo Sarvas, and the play of Bobby Boswell and Kofi Opare. We can get through this together. When we finally reach the second segment, we bring on Sean Spence of Hot Time in Old Town to talk about the resurgent Chicago Fire. We talk about them spending money on things like Bastian Schweinsteiger, the play of Nemanja Nikolic, and the status of their right backs. Since its the Fire, we also have to ask about their goalkeeper situation, before asking what rotation we might see because of their midweek game. Finally, we ask Sean how he would gameplan against the Fire if he were Ben Olsen. Give it a listen!

Jason, Ben, and Adam start off the show by talking about the Richmond Kickers' new stadium deal before getting to MLS Cup and specifically how it wasn't nearly as bad a game as people have been saying it was. We talk about the game itself and how Tosaint Ricketts completely changed it when he came on. We give cake or death to the last few players on D.C. United's roster, including Marcelo Sarvas, Rob Vincent, and Travis Worra, before going into the expansion draft. We talk about the trades of Miguel Aguilar and Kennedy Igboananike, and what they meant for the 11 players that D.C. United was able to protect from Atlanta United and Minnesota United. Finally, we talk about the expansion draft writ large and who those two interlopers United might do. Give it a listen!

Ben is too busy smoking delicious foodstuffs on his grill to join the podcast, so it is just Jason and Adam for the first of two episodes this week. First, the pair break down D.C. United's satisfying 4-1 victory over Orlando City SC, including discussing Taylor Kemp's great game, United playing direct and attacking without going Route 1, and how different this team is than the D.C. United of June. They also talk about Julian Buescher stepping in for Marcelo Sarvas as well as Nick DeLeon's debut at right back. In the second segment, Jason and Adam discuss United's attempt to get their first back-to-back wins this year against Columbus Crew SC. Jason breaks down what is going right for Crew SC with their two straight wins coming into Wednesday's game, and they discuss what was going wrong for them before that. They talk about who will play the #10 spot with Federico Higuain injured, ponder whether Crew SC's style has evolved in the past two year, and end by trying to pinpoint their weakness and find a way that United can exploit it. Filibuster is back and sounding delightful in your ears! Jason, Adam, and Ben (who finally fixed his audio problems) are back to talk about D.C. United's late late draw with the Chicago Fire. We talk about the late goals and how surprisingly lackluster United's midfield trio of Marcelo Sarvas, Luciano Acosta, and Rob Vincent were. We also talk about how Steve Birnbaum has become a target option, and how that isn't sustainable before discussing who should play right back for the upcoming matches (hint: not Luke Mishu). We end by talking about Jose Carranza, the D.C. United Academy, and youth development in general. We then invite on Michael Citro from The Mane Land to talk about United's upcoming match against Orlando City SC. We talk about their two consecutive losses and what Jason Kreis' hiring has brought to the team. We dicuss the addition of Matias Perez Garcia to the attacking trio and what that means for Brek Shea's place on the team, as well as all of the designated players that OCSC has and if they can all stay. On the other end of the payroll, Orlando City has brought some USL players up to MLS in the middle of the year, and we talk about the impact they've made. Finally, we ask if the team is feeling the pressure in this game and ask Michael to gameplan the Lions for D.C. United. Give it a listen!

CoG Studios, CA - Steven Gerrard had a lot to say after the LA Galaxy's 1-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Friday night. And why shouldn't he? He scored the game winner in the 66th minute and has generally been one of the key players for this team. But his comments were especially important when you understand what this team and their locker room looked and felt like in 2015. Landon Donovan had just left, Marcelo Sarvas was gone, and two player, Steven Gerrard and Giovani dos Santos were struggling to adapt to their new team as everyone else was struggling to adapt to them. On this show your hosts Josh Guesman and LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano are joined by Four Four Two USA's Scott French (@ScottJFrench). Together they'll discuss the comments that Gerrard made and try to put them in perspective. What was the locker room like in 2015? How did that differ from the locker room in 2014? And how does that all relate to this year's team in 2016? And with new faces brought in for this team including Nigel De Jong, Ashley Cole, and Jelle Van Damme, did Bruce Arena and the rest of the LA Galaxy go through some dramatic change? Did the Galaxy get tougher but also closer together? Is competition destroying this "coming together?" Or is it fostering the type of atmosphere that breeds championship teams? It's an excellent insight from three of the people who've followed this team the closest during the past three seasons. And it's all about putting you into the locker room so you can understand what kind of work environment these professional athletes inhabit. We can't wait to get started. Whether it's injuries, off-season trades, retirements, lackluster play, or a complete lack of performance, the LA Galaxy midfield is struggling to keep this 2015 team afloat. On today's show, your hosts Josh Guesman and LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano are joined again by Latin Times Sports Editor, Michael Duarte. Together these gentlemen will attempt to break down the issues that have plagued the LA Galaxy midfield 1/3rd of the way through this MLS season. With offensive injuries to Robbie Keane, the midfield has been exposed as an incomplete project. Baggio Hasidic, Juninho, and Stefan Ishizaki are attempting to fill the whole left by Marcelo Sarvas and Landon Donovan. An injury to Jose Villarreal has taken what was a very promising start at left midfield and made it into one big waiting game. And with youngsters vying for positions all over the pitch, the inconsistencies are stunting their progress. The LA Galaxy, for their part have brought in new names. Mika Vayrynen, Sebastian Lletget and Steven Gerrard have, or will soon, be putting their stamp onto this midfield. But will these ever rotating pieces of veterans and youngsters find the stability to bring the LA Galaxy back into the hunt for a sixth MLS crown? And can anyone really expect Steven Gerrard to just plug into a struggling offensive midfield and fix everything? It was a day of new beginnings in Philadelphia on Thursday as the MLS SuperDraft made its yearly splash. Andrew, Simon and David were on the ground to give you the complete wrap from the draft, with exclusive audio from proceedings that saw Canuck U-20 Cyle Larin taken first overall, Cristian Roldan fall down the board and Marcelo Sarvas traded. Of course, in Toronto, big news was going down with Jozy Altidore and Jermain Defoe. It wasn't pegged as a bloody big deal, rather a shrewd move to replace one unhappy striker with a younger, North American one. But should US fans be unhappy the Yanks biggest stars are landing in the #WeTheNorth? The guys talk that and Sasha Kljestan, who appears headed for LA. In the mailbag, it's clear USL PRO played a large role in Thursday's SuperDraft proceedings. What's next? Also, the guys give Mix Diskerud advice on where to live and admire Pablo Mastroeni's incredible mustache.Email us at ExtraTime@MLSsoccer.com or tweet us at @ExtraTimeRadio. It is Tuesday and so that means that Filibuster is back once again, to hopefully help your Thanksgiving commutes. We start by talking about the MLS Playoffs and that means talking about New England Revolution vs. New York Red Bulls. We talk about the refereeing, offside calls, Bradley Wright-Phillips' yellow card, and whether or not this Revs would have a chance against either team from the West. Speaking of the West, we then move to talk about LA Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders. We talk about whether or not we would want Marcelo Sarvas for D.C. United, the gameplay between the first and second matches, and Kevin Stott's comments. Finally, we open the Twitterbox and talk about Thomas McNamara, briefly mention that there will be lots of stadium news today, go through the Cake or death posts so far on the site (and turn them into goat or fox), talk about fullbacks, and end with our Thanksgiving food and beverage pairing for hatewatching the rest of the playoffs. Give it a listen!
