Juventus' move for Douglas Luiz is a go — and could be the start of a whole lot of movement in the midfield this summer as Cristiano Giuntoli looks to address the Bianconeri's long-standing problem area. On Episode 237 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: The sudden audible Juventus had to call with the Douglas Luiz swap deal once Weston McKennie started to make things difficult. This has not been a good look for Weston McKennie. So, could Douglas Luiz just be the start of Cristiano Giuntoli remaking Juventus' midfield? We ask that because as Adrien Rabiot makes Juve wait, Giuntoli is reportedly in talks for Nice midielder Khéphren Thuram. Twitter questions — including just how poorly McKennie handled all of this, what's really up with Federico Chiesa and his future at the club, and what if you were given the chance to fight a Mario Mandzukic-sized Sebastian Giovinco or a Sebastian Giovinco-sized Mario Mandzukic. Sure, we'll talk about a game nobody saw! On today's show, hosts Josh Guesman and Kevin Baxter discuss the Galaxy's quiet last few days and why things might be about to heat up again! First, the guys talk about Auggie Williams and his goal against the Columbus Crew in a game that wasn't a game, wasn't real, and probably is just a figment of everyone's imagination. But Williams is trying to earn a spot on the senior team, and scoring in a glorified scrimmage is an excellent way to get Greg Vanney's attention. What could separate Williams from the rest of the guys trying to make this team? Next, Josh updates listeners on a rumor involving Victor Vázquez and why you can't compare him to Sebastian Giovinco. Are the Galaxy going to grab the 34-year-old? And what does that mean for the rest of the starting lineup? Especially when we tell you the Galaxy might be taking a significant step back from Cristian Pavon? Kevin will dive into the void of Designated Player signings and why Samuel Grandsir may be a product of teams who are afraid to spend money in another season affected by Covid. Could the Galaxy keep an open DP slot well into summer? And could returning fans to Dignity Health Sports Park means teams are ready to spend in 2021 once there's a path towards a "normal" season? The ladies live vicariously through new head coach of the LA Galaxy, Greg Vanney, who feels right at home in the SoCal sunshine. He discusses the decision to leave Toronto, how he will restore "the soul” of the Galaxy, and he DOESN’T rule out seeing Chicharito and Sebastian Giovinco on the field together. Plus, the “Sigi Schmid” influence on his coaching style. Speaking of style...did the iconic scarf make the trip to the West Coast? Can you say “here for this” episode?? Because we SO are!

On the same night as the Jose Bautista bat flip, Giovinco scored one of the finest - and most important goals - in TFC history. Seba tells us about his decision to rush home from International duty to lead the team to victory.Sealing TFC’s first ever play-off appearance, Seba talks us through ‘that’ goal, from the moment he received the ball to the moment it hit the back of the net. It was an attacking pairing that produced 102 goals in 88 games - Seba describes his fearsome on field partnership with Jozy Altidore. The Footy Talks team share contrasting memories of that magical night - with KJ walking the streets of a euphoric downtown Toronto, and Wileman (possibly) threatened at gunpoint by a disgruntled cameraman in Texas (!!).We take great questions from listeners including: What was Seba’s second best TFC goal?Does Jozy need a player in the Seba mould to perform at his best?Would you make the trade of Pozuelo for Giovinco? With the Coronavirus quarantine in full effect and the Belarusian Premier League having finished for the day, the good people over at LAFC Gaming knew just how to get 17,600 members of the Black and Gold faithful hyped for soccer: RemiMartinn. eMLS’s number 5 ranked competitor was set to take the sticks against FC Dallas’s gamer, i9ibbs, in the second FIFA20 Charity Challenge. Still riding the euphoric wave of his epic defeat of Carson last week, Remi showed up and showed out yet again, taking down Dallas in the second match, 4-0, en route to a 1-2-0 showing and a 7-3 aggregate thrashing of i9ibbs. No dramatics needed from Carlos Vela in this one, though he did notch another hat trick. Goals by Dio and Blessing bookended a beautiful chip by Diego Rossi, and Remi bagged another series victory. Great commentary from Max and Rogo and excellent production value made for a very enjoyable time, but it left the boys asking one question: Where is Gigi? Episode 91 also asks the question, “What were you doing in ‘91?” Were you watching Jordan’s Bulls take home their first chip? Cheering Leeds United as they won the last championship before the start of the Premier League? Doing the wave at Dodger Stadium as Darryl Strawberry took the field for the Boys in Blue? Heck, Major League Soccer was still 5 years away! The Defenders also talk about the rumor mill, as the familiar names of Rossi and Atuesta make their rounds on the gossip circuit. And what about our #1 spot on the Allocation Rankings List? Could someone the caliber of Alphonso Davies, Deandre Yedlin, or Sebastian Giovinco really be heading to LAFC? No, but it’s fun to look at the list! The boys enjoy their usual banter as Filly laments his Knicks, Scarf beams over Bryce Duke getting his homework in on time, and the two continue to work on their website. (It’s coming soon, we promise!) Happy birthday, Devo! Just nine episodes from hitting triple digits, and we start to wonder, will the quarantine be over in time to celebrate #100 with the millions (and millions) of Defenders fans? We hope so, but just in case it isn’t, we will still be here offering you a bit of a distraction in these trying times. We love you all! Now go wash your hands and #StayHome!
On Saturday August 17th, Los Angeles Football Club (18-4-3) defeated Real Salt Lake (12-4-10) in Rio Tinto Stadium, ending the team's eight-game home unbeaten streak. Both teams lost a man in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Walker Zimmerman's second yellow in the 48th minute put LAFC down a man for a 14-minute stretch. LAFC maintained its poise until Vela leveled the pitch by earning a penalty at the cost of RSL defender Aaron Herrera in the 62nd. Vela's subsequent goal from the spot broke a tie with Sebastian Giovinco's record for the most combined goals and assists in one season. Giovinco had 38 (22 goals, 16 assists) in 2015. With nine games to go in 2019, Vela now has 39 (24 goals, 15 assists). Three road points later, LAFC is set for a busy rivalry week against its Californian neighbors. Ryan Wallerson of the Southern California News Group (Daily News) & Alex Dwyer of MLSsoccer.com break down LAFC's performance against the Real Salt Lake, Vela's moment against RSL, and discuss the challenges that await LAFC during rivalry week, which begins on Wednesday, August 21st against the San Jose Earthquake and continues on Sunday August 25th against the Galaxy. Both matches will be at the Banc.
