The world was very different in 1991; there was no internet, no smartphones, and if you wanted local news, you had to wait for a live newscast from channels 4, 5, 7, or 9 or read it the next day in The Washington Post.Allbritton Communications, which owned Channel 7 (WJLA) at the time, saw an opportunity for a hyper-local 24/7 all-news TV Station, and NewsChannel 8 was born.Wayne Lynch was hired as the station's first News Director and was tasked with building out the television station's programming. On this episode, Wayne takes us behind the scenes in the early days of News Channel 8.We talk about the founding of the station, some of the anchors and reporters who worked for Wayne, the concept of zoned news - where they aired different newscasts in DC, Virginia, and Maryland, and what led to the ultimate downfall of the station.More from DCRTV:DCRTV.comNewsletter signup: https://dcrtv.com/newsletterFollow DCRTV on FacebookBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/dcrtv-washington-radio-and-tv-podcast--6152954/support.

Join Jim and Greg as they close the week with an important correction from Thursday's edition, strong thoughts on Trump's rejection of another debate and the questionable characters in his inner circle, and startling indications that the performance of the Secret Service on the day of the Trump assassination attempt was even worse than we thought.First, they apologize for basing their Thursday story about a Maryland county considering major zoning changes that allegedly threatened existing and future single-family homes on an erroneous story from a local ABC news station. They explain what the proposed changes would actually do and why that news source is unlikely to get the benefit of the doubt again.Next, they explain why they think Trump was wrong to reject another debate with Kamala Harris, pointing out that even with somewhat biased moderators, a debate is still the best chance to make gettable voters aware of Kamala's radical positions and failed tenure as vice president. They also chide Trump for allowing a figure like Laura Loomer into his inner circle - which is almost guaranteed to make things worse. Finally, they're stunned to see staunch lefty Connecticut Sen. Dick Blumenthal predict the American people will be "appalled" by the egregious failings of the U.S. Secret Service in connection to the attempted assassination of Trump on July 13. And Blumenthal also blasted the Department of Homeland Security for its lack of cooperation in the investigation. Please visit our great sponsors:Lumenhttps://lumen.me/3MLHead to lumen.me/3ML for 15% off your Lumen.
