Adam is still on loan to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, so we bring in Steven Streff as a replacement to join Jason and Ben. We start with D.C. United's improbable 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids, and we have to start with Jared Watts' hilarious own goal. We also talk about how good both Bill Hamid and Russell Canouse were, and also sing the praises of Paul Arriola before wishing that players would just shoot the dang ball. Even without Adam we can have an Adam's Fun Time News Roundup Time, and so we talk about the injury status of various D.C. United players and the fact that the team will actually have players called up by their national teams for these World Cup qualifiers. Finally, we get to the two games this week: mid-week against Atlanta United, and the weekend against the New England Revolution. We first talk about the trade of Bobby Boswell to Atlanta, talk about their new spaceship stadium and how it doesn't fully work yet, and ponder the options to replace Steve Birnbaum. We also get into the US Open Cup loss so that we can talk about how Sean Franklin is. not. a center back., before giving up on the segment to talk about happier things. Adam is off celebrating the birth of his second child, so you're stuck with Jason and Ben for this episode. There has been so much soccer in these past six days that the US Open Cup match against Christos FC feels like years ago, and not just a week. We talk about that game, about the class that Lloyd Sam and Ian Harkes brought when they subbed on, and how Julian Buescher's game looked great on paper, but was different in real life. We also have to talk about United 2-0 loss to Toronto FC, and how Steve Birnbaum had a bad game on both sides of the ball. We talk about this result in the context of the team's season so far, and what performances can be salvaged out of a loss like this. Finally, we have to talk about the rumors swirling around Alhaji Kamara and Jose Ortiz; and that's just the first segment! In the second segment we talk about the upcoming game against Atlanta United, and how this team is a very bad matchup for United right now. Their defense can be had, especially with Carlos Carmona out, but United will also have to deal with the fact that Josef Martinez is back. We discuss who each team might rotate in and rotate out, before wondering overall if United can stay close enough in the East to allow midyear signings to help. In the third segment we welcome back Eugene Rupinski of Brotherly Game to talk about the weekend match against the Philadelphia Union. We ask hom about their center backs and their midfield, some United alums in Charlie Davies and Chris Pontius, and some midseason changes Eugene would want to see. Finally, we end with the poor home records of both teams and how Ben Olsen should gameplan against the Union. Give it a listen!

So it turns out that cheaters actually DO prosper. At least in MLS under PRO referees they do. Vancouver Whitecaps' 1-0 loss to D.C. United, thanks to a dodgy winning penalty call, is a hard one to take. At least we now know what the D.C. aspect of the team stands for. But it wasn't all just down to that one call. The 'Caps did enough to win the game and their finishing, good goalkeeping, and the woodwork, all conspired to prevent that from happening. We look back at all the big talking points from the match and hear the thoughts of both coach, Vancouver's Carl Robinson and D.C.'s Ben Olsen [15:57]. We also chat with the Man of the Match, D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid and centre back Steve Birnbaum [53:04]. But the 'Caps have to put all of that behind them as they have a big game coming up this week with a Canadian Championship semi-final second leg in Montreal. We look back at the first leg, ponder what to expect from the second, and hear from two WFC2 players that made their competitive Whitecaps first team debuts last week - Dutch centre back Sem de Wit [73:32] and New Zealand defender Deklan Wynne [81:15]. And there's still time to look at the Whitecaps new training pitch and facility and hear the thoughts of Jordan Harvey, David Ousted, and Robbo on it and training on grass as opposed to turf [97:14] and have a quick look ahead to this Saturday's MLS match with Atlanta. United's 1-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union, and have to start with the goal that did them in. We talk about how the team has no natural finishers on it, and talk for far too long about the non-issue that was Luciano Acosta being subbed off. We talk about Alvaro Saborio and Steve Birnbaum being called up and what that will mean for United, and then talk about the transfer rumors swirling around Birnbaum. We then move onto this Friday's (yes, three Fridays in a row) game against Sporting Kansas City. We discuss whether or not this is the same old Sporks team, and whether Peter Vermes' shouty message is beginning to fall on deaf ears. We talk about the players that they will be missing for the Copa America, what their game plan will be, and whether or not they can beat D.C. United on set pieces. Give it a listen!

It is a Tuesday, which means a downpour of Filibuster drowning your ears and making everyone drive 15 mph under the speed limit. We start by talking about another rainy day, D.C. United's 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire. We talk about our different minds regarding this game, before going in deep on the 4-1-4-1 Ben Olsen ran out. We also talk about Marcelo Sarvas and his role in any of these formations, before ending by talking about Steve Birnbaum, his inclusion on the USMNT's premliminary roster for the Copa America, and rumors about him from abroad. We then welcome on Raf Noboa y Rivera, from Hudson River Blue, to talk about New York City FC. We ask Raf if they have a nickname yet, before getting into matters on the field, including the feeling after beating the Vancouver Whitecaps. We also talk about Frank Lampard, the tactics of Patrick Viera, and, of course, Tommy McNamara. We then get into Federico Bravo and Andrea Pirlo, the state of NYCFC's defenders, and whether Josh Saunders is good enough to be a playoff goalkeeper, all before asking Raf to gameplan NYCFC for us. Filibuster is finally back on a Tuesday, and we're here to review D.C. United's first regular season game. We have to talk about Mike Magee and the difference between the two halves against the LA Galaxy, the bad marking on set-pieces, and the benching of Fabian Espindola. We also ask about Lamar Neagle's defense when he was moved to the wing, whether Luciano Acosta will go 90 minutes, and Steve Birnbaum's head injuries. We end by giving our takeaways from this game, including United's new directness and Nick DeLeon's good game in the center of midfield. We then invite on Steve Stoehr from The Bent Musket to break down this weekend's game against the New England Revolution. We talk about the Revs' road draw in Houston, Diego Fagundez's resurgence, and the whole Jermaine Jones situation. A Filibuster on a Friday? With so much midweek action, we just had to move the podcast so that we could talk about it (and talk we do). After urging to support Adam shaving off his luscious locks and and bet about college basketball, we get into D.C. United and the Concacaf Champions League. We talk about our feelings about the result, the central midfield pairing of Nick DeLeon and Marcelo Sarvas, and how the team can recover. We also get into Steve Birnbaum and his offensive prowess, Luciano Acosta's competitive debut, and some of the newcomers in the aforementioned Sarvas as well as Patrick Nyarko. We then welcome on MLSsoccer.com's Armchair Analyst, Matthew Doyle, to preview the rest of the league. We talk about the teams that have had the worst and best offseasons, look at the state of three of the league's top teams: LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, and FC Dallas. We ask if Orlando City is actually better now that they've added Antonio Nocerino and if the New England Revolution are better without Jermaine Jones. We end by asking Matthew to give some MLS superlatives before getting in a question about Thomas McNamara. Give it a listen!

Filibuster is a little late this week, but we are always here for you. Jason, Adam, and Ben are back to talk about the USMNT and D.C. United, starting with USA versus Canada. We talk about how they looked, the continuing farce of Jermaine Jones at center back, the USWNT scoring goals during recording, and the performance of our own Birdbomb, Steve Birnbaum. When then have to talk about all the transfer drama that has surrounded D.C. United these past few weeks. We have to talk about the newest installments in the Antonio Nocerino story; we also talk about Luciano Acosta, the tampering charges that may or may not come against Orlando City, the Conor Doyle trade, and D.C. United's 2-2 draw against J-Sodra in Bradenton. We end by talking about some of the new jerseys out there in MLS, including Vancouver Whitecaps, Orlando City, Real Salt Lake, and the abomination that is Columbus Crew SC. Give it a listen!

There is actual soccer on the field to talk about and Filibuster is here to talk about it. Jason, Adam, and Ben start first with the US Men's National Team's 3-2 over Iceland, and specifically concentrate on Steve Birnbaum's performance. We talk about the second Iceland goal, in which he was the closest defender, but also talk about his two headers that produced an assist and a goal. When then move into D.C. United's preseason and talk about the five man midfield Ben Olsen used for most of the first match. We talk about how there is chaos in that midfield with the sheer number of central midfielders and talk about if Collin Martin could force the team to use a #10. We then talk rumors: Leonardo Gil, Antonio Nocerino, and what recompense D.C. United should require if Orlando City is to get Nocerino. Finally, we talk about the trade for Marcelo Sarvas and hope that the possible move for Georgios Samaras is just a rumor. Give it a listen!

All good things must come to an end, and that includes D.C. United's 2015 season. Adam, Jason, and Ben are here to be your Virgil as we start the journey through the Divine Comedy that is the offseason. But first, we have one last D.C. United game about which to talk: we ask whether this was the right lineup for the game between United and the New York Red Bulls, whether Olsen could have or should have changed his system, and whether or not injuries should be a talking point. We also ask whether we should be talking about firing Ben Olsen, talk about Bob Bradley as an MLS coach, and the piteous state of D.C. United's scouting network. We then move on to talk about the upcoming qualifiers for World Cup 2018. We ask whether Bill Hamid will start, talk about the first-timers on the roster and specifically Darlington Nagbe. We also discuss who should start on the forward line and could Jurgen Klinsmann get fired in any scenario. Finally, we open up the Twitterbox to some D.C. United questions. We talk about whether Kofi Opare and Steve Birnbaum will force Bobby Boswell to the bench, whether Chris Pontius and Fabian Espindola will be back next year, wonder what do the teams left have that United doesn't, and ponder a 3-5-2 for DCU. It is a Tuesday, and that means that Filibuster is back for your enjoyment. Jason, Ben, and Adam have to take some time to talk about Copa Concacaf and the failure of the USMNT and Jurgen Klinsmann to qualify for the 2017 Confederations Cup. We talk about how at least the game was exciting for neutrals, how it was close on the scoreboard but not on the field, how the USMNT hasn't improved since the World Cup, and who should stay and who should go. We then talk about tonight's game between the USMNT and Costa Rica, but we're mostly just talking more about the general state of the USMNT. We talk about Fabian Johnson being sent home, Klinsmann's statements vs. his reality, and whether or not he should be fired from either his technical director or head coach jobs. Finally, we address the strawman of whether or not there is anyone who could possibly replace Jurgen. We then turn to D.C. United and talk about this weekend's game versus the Chicago Fire. We talk about Harry Shipp actually being played in position, Matt Polster being played all over, Steve Birnbaum versus Kofi Opare, and how to beat the Fire. Filibuster is back, and Ben, Jason, and Adam are joined by a very special guest: Sebastian Salazar from Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic! We start off by talking about the Gold Cup, even though we recorded before last night's 1-1 draw between the United States and Panama. We talk about what's wrong with the USMNT, ask whether or not they are sandbagging like the USWNT, and talk about Michael Bradley as a number 10. We also ponder whether or not there is a chance Perry Kitchen gets called in to replace Kyle Beckerman. Since Sebastian is here, we then had to ask him about Mexico. We let him explain what's wrong with the Mexico national team and ask whether there is anyone in their current pool who could help D.C. United. We finish with D.C. United against FC Dallas this weekend. We talk about whether or not United can shut down Mauro Diaz, how they can deal with Fabian Castillo, and ask where the creativity will come from since Fabian Espindola is suspended. We wrap up by flinging praise and Andrew Dykstra and Steve Birnbaum. Give it a listen!

Since there is ever so much soccer, its a Filibuster on a Monday! We start by reminicing about howl long it has been since we recorded on a Sunday (miss you, Martin), before getting into the meat of the podcast. D.C. United actually played Chicago last week, and we talk about Conor Doyle's golazo and the formation that the team employed in that game. We also talk about the draw against Toronto FC, and start off with the stellar performance of Steve Birnbaum in that game. We then talk about the defense overall and how impressed we were by them and how they did not give up a goal against one of the highest-priced attacks in the league. Finally, we talk about how TFC didn't really create many chances, despite the popular narrative that they dominated the game. We move onto tomorrow's game against the Philadelphia Union in the US Open Cup, and how the Union have been burning up their starters in the league. We argue that they should concentrate on the Open Cup, because they have a better chance at pulling a 2013 D.C. United then doing well in this regular season. We also talk about Friday's game against the Seattle Sounders, who will be getting Clint Dempsey back from suspension but will be missing Obafemi Martins. We compare Dempsey's suspension to what Cuauhtémoc Blanco got, and then talk about what Dempsey will do in this game and how United will have to play to win. Finally, we talk more about the 2015 World Cup and start with discussing their high press. We ask whether or not missing Lauren Holiday and Megan Rapinoe made the USWNT better, their central midfield tactics, and how the United States will approach this game against Germany.

United's Concacaf Champions League game against LD Alajuelense, including dissecting the play of Andrew Dykstra, Steve Birnbaum and Bobby Boswell, and Davy Arnaud and Perry Kitchen. We also talk about the scheduling of the game and theorize if there would be any way to move it even a little later. Donald then regales us with the epic story of his cab ride during his layover leaving Costa Rica. If nothing else, please listen to this story: it involves the tourism police! We then turn back to soccer and talk about the second leg of the CCL quarterfinals, and ask if D.C. United can climb the mountain before them both offensively and defensively. We also discuss whether or not any of the likes of Jairo Arrieta, Miguel Aguilar, or Michael Farfan should start this game. In the third segment, we preview D.C. United's opening weekend match against the Montreal Impact, because we are optimists. We look at their first CCL game, whether they can translate that success into MLS, and whether or not the CCL will affect either team's performance on Saturday. Finally, in a rarely seen fourth segment, we have to talk about the collective bargaining between MLS and its players' union. We talk about how there may or may not have been some progress in negotiations, give our predictions as to whether the season will start on time, and beat the drum for the University of California solution to the problem.
