Know the name? If not then tap in and think of Team Canada, University of Virginia, Iowa State and all the way to the Philadelphia 76ers. Marial has years ahead of him and after a positive season with the Maine Celtics, he looks forward to signing somewhere soon. Marial takes us back to his time growing up in Ottawa being surrounded by four siblings (two who were serious hoopers), and his father who is a former D1 basketball player. In his Grade 12 year, Marial made the decision to move from St. Patrick's high school to the storied program at Blair Academy in New Jersey, where names like Luol Deng and Charlie Villanueva also attended. From there the decision on which school to attend became a tough one. After committing to Marquette, then head coach Buzz Williams left for Virginia Tech so Marial decided to attend the University of Virginia instead. Some great insight and thoughts about his three years there, but in the end he ultimately decided to transfer for his senior year at Iowa State where he averaged 19 ppg in 2018-19, was an Associate Press Honorable Mention All-American and BIG 12 Tournament MVP. The ups, downs and in-between are all in Episode 110. Marial shows great reflection and understanding of who he is all while staying positive and reflecting on where he's come. Anyone in the Ottawa region check out the showcase we have shared and support Marial's push to grow the game! We wish him nothing but the best going forward, Episode 110 is live! The Philadelphia Eagles will not hire an offensive coordinator. Doug Pederson is technically that guy while Press Taylor is now the passing game coordinator and Jeff Stoutland will remain the running game coordinator. I don't know how I feel about this to be honest. It's not the worst thing in the world, but I don't love it either. Also, the Philadelphia Sixers conversation continues. Joel Embiid and Al Horford had interesting comments at the media session today in Camden, NJ. Ben Simmons recently called this team soft. Marial Shayok was called up for the game against the Bucks.

“Give me the 2020 second round, and I’ll make an NBA champion.” - Michael Levin - The Sixers traded up with the Boston Celtics to take a player from the University Of Washington… again. The 76ers exchange the 24th and 33rd picks to select Matisse Thybulle at 20, with the Celtics knowing the they were interested in the defensive standout. To Spike’s dismay, the Celtics took Carsen Edwards with the 33rd pick. The Sixers traded the 34th pick to Atlanta for a future second round pick, and the 54th and 57th picks, which became Marial Shayok, and Jordan Bone, who they also traded.

Iowa State has talent, but chemistry has been elusive for coach Steve Prohm. Their go to guy is Canadian Marial Shayok, a 6-6 guard averaging 18 a game. Freshman Talen Horton-Tucker is a 6-4 guard with NBA potential. Their defense has not been great in the latter part of the season, but their talent has the potential to compensate for those shortcomings.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

With Cole and Marchie out for this week, Levi sat down with Caroline Darney, the College League Manager for SBNation and a graduate of the University of Virginia, to talk about Marial Shayok (a transfer from Virginia) and what his impact might be with Iowa State. However, Caroline might have been even more excited to talk about her other favorite Cyclone, Brock Purdy, with whom she's come to adore over the last few weeks. Finally, we compared and contrasted the UVA-VaTech rivalry to the CyHawk rivalry and noticed some pretty weird differences. Namely, the fact that UVA and Virginia Tech actually brag about getting up for the rivalry game, where as Iowa and Iowa State seem to compete to see who cares about it the least.
