All that's left is deciding if Spoelstra or Tyronn Lue are going to take over.Zion Williamson looks slimmed down in pictures on social media, which serves as a good reminder of just how great he played in the 2nd half of last season.Kevin Durant, arguably the greatest player in the history of the University of Texas, will be returning to Austin to play against the San Antonio Spurs in February. Dan explains how good Durant was in his only year in college, while Jake explains why he preferred Greg Oden.Joe Harris retired from basketball, leading to Jake telling stories about chatting with Joe in the Nets locker room and bumping into Joe around town in Brooklyn. Dan breaks down the numbers that argue that Joe was one of the best 3-point shooters in NBA history.Guerschon Yabusele was one of the stars of the French team at the Olympics, and he's been rewarded with a 1-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers could really use a player like Yabusele, which means he could end up closing games for them. Dan tries to come up with comps to explain “Yabu” to people that haven't seen him play basketball before. We end the show with our favorite under-the-radar moves of the offseason, bouncing all over the league to do so.Subscribe to the Ball Don't Lie podcast feed on your favorite podcast app:

For the 10th time in his illustrious 21-season NBA career, LeBron James is getting accustomed to a new head coach. The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly hired former NBA player and current podcast co-host, JJ Redick, on a four-year contract. This bold move brings a coaching rookie into the spotlight, tasked with managing a team that has struggled to meet its championship aspirations since their 2020 title. With LeBron comes immense expectations and pressure, which has historically led to a revolving door of head coaches. From his early days in Cleveland to his championship runs in Miami and back to his current stint with the Lakers, LeBron has experienced a diverse array of coaching styles and philosophies. Let's take a trip down memory lane and revisit all the coaches LeBron has played under:Paul Silas (2003-2005): LeBron's first NBA coach, known for his old-school approach and mentoring style, helped LeBron win the 2004 NBA Rookie of the Year Award.Mike Brown (2005-2010): Led the Cavaliers to their first NBA Finals appearance in 2007 and secured multiple 60+ win seasons but was eventually let go in hopes of retaining LeBron.Erik Spoelstra (2010-2014): Despite initial friction, Spoelstra guided LeBron and the Miami Heat to four straight NBA Finals and two championships, solidifying his reputation as one of the league's top coaches.David Blatt (2014-2016): Hired before LeBron's return to Cleveland, Blatt's European coaching style never quite meshed with the team, leading to his mid-season dismissal despite a 53-29 record and a Finals appearance.Tyronn Lue (2016-2018): Promoted from assistant coach, Lue led the Cavaliers to their historic 2016 NBA Championship, though the team struggled to maintain that success, leading to LeBron's departure to LA.Luke Walton (2018-2019): Struggled to integrate LeBron with the Lakers' young core, resulting in a disappointing season and Walton's eventual dismissal.Frank Vogel (2019-2022): Brought a defensive-minded approach that led the Lakers to their 2020 NBA Championship in the bubble, but later struggled with team dynamics and the ill-fated Russell Westbrook trade.Darvin Ham (2022-2024): Managed to bench Westbrook and lead the Lakers to the Western Conference Finals, but consistent underperformance led to his firing after two seasons.J.J. Redick (2024-?): The newest addition, and LeBron's podcast co-host, now faces the challenge of bringing the Lakers back to championship contention in a high-stakes environment. From seasoned veterans to fresh faces, each coach has brought something unique to the table. With Redick now at the helm, the Lakers are betting on a new dynamic that leverages his close relationship with LeBron.Join the conversation on Real Talk with Kingsley Ogwudire as we dive into LeBron's journey through these coaching changes. What does this mean for the Lakers' future? Will JJ Redick be the key to unlocking another championship? Share your thoughts and let's discuss!

Reese and Pam discuss the NBA officiating in the NBA Playoffs thus far, particularly in the Nets vs Sixers game last night.  Last night, the 76ers defeated the Nets 102-97 giving them a 3-0 lead in the series. However, the biggest takeaway from the game was the officiating. There were two ejections and some technical fouls given out. In the 1st quarter, Nets' center Nic Claxton dunked the ball off a lob. Embiid fell to the ground as Claxton slammed the ball through the hoop and with Embiid laying on the ground, stepped over Embiid, reminiscent of Allen Iverson and Tyronn Lue. However, Embiid took offense to this and kicked upwards near Claxton's groin. Embiid was given a Flagrant foul penalty 1 and Claxton was given a technical foul. Draymond Green was suspended for Game 3 in the Warriors vs Kings series for a similar offense? Is that fair? Should Embiid be suspended for Game 4? In the 3rd quarter, James Harden was ejected from the contest after making a move where he allegedly hit Nets' guard Royce O'Neal "below the belt." The call on Harden was a Flagrant foul penalty 2 which is an immediate ejection. Then, with less than 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Nic Claxton dunked on Joel Embiid and proceeded to stare him down as he strutted down the court as he was getting back on defense. This gave Claxton his second personal foul which is an automatic ejection. Are the officials too involved in the game?

For decades people have debated over who had the best crossover. While Allen Iverson's NBA crossover may have been lethal, it was nothing compared to Tina Turner's iconic crossover into the pop mainstream. After years in partnership with an abusive and overbearing Ike Turner, Tina stepped out on her own to find her own voice. And boy, did she ever. Ike could only sit back and watch Tina step right over him as she created some of the most monstrous hits of the 1980's. And like Tyronn Lue, Ike never saw it coming. Ty Lue has cemented himself as one of the best coaches in The NBA and we are so psyched to share this conversation. Topics include: Ty's brief time playing with JJ Redick in Orlando, how he first got into coaching, what he learned from Doc Rivers in Boston, what he learned from Phil Jackson on The Los Angeles Lakers, why he feels former players are uniquely suited to coach in The NBA, what it was like coaching LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love on The Cleveland Cavaliers, the unique way he inspired and motivated his team when they were down 3-1 to The Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals, coaching Kawhi Leonard on The Los Angeles Clippers, his message to The Clippers going into this season, what he learned from playing with Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan and what makes those guys different from everyone else and of course we had to ask about the iconic Allen Iverson step-over. Also in this episode, JJ and Tommy discuss their initial takaways from the first week of the NBA season and JJ clears the air on a Lakers take that has since been aggregated and criticized.Subscribe to The Old Man and The Three podcast w/ JJ Redick and Tommy Alter on YouTube and wherever you get your podcasts. If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, crisis counseling and referral services can be accessed by calling 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537) (IL/IN/LA/MI/NJ/TN/PA/WV/WY), 1-800-NEXT STEP (AZ), 1-800-522-4700 (CO/KS/NH), 888-789-7777/visit ccpg.org (CT), 1-800-BETS OFF (IA), 877-8-HOPENY/text HOPENY (467369) (NY), visit OPGR.org (OR), or 1-888-532-3500 (VA).21+ (18+ NH/WY). There was no celebration for the Oklahoma City Thunder after earning their first win of the season in four tries.Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 33 points and the Thunder defeated the short-handed Los Angeles Clippers 108-94 on Tuesday night.Oklahoma City coach Mark Daigneault said the players are more concerned with process than results as the young roster evolves. He said his team is ''robotic'' about feedback.''We just try to create like, an extremely ruthless consistency with our approach and just trust that if we do that, the guys will improve, the players will grow as they gain experience, things will slow down, their bodies will get stronger,'' he said. ''And we just trust in that deal.''The Clippers were without their two biggest stars. Kawhi Leonard sat out to rest his right knee and Paul George missed the game with an illness. Another starter, Marcus Morris, was out for personal reasons. Oklahoma City took advantage by holding the Clippers to 42% shooting.''I didn't fault our effort,'' coach Tyronn Lue said. ''I thought we did some good things, but we've just got to continue to keep getting better. When you're short-handed like that, the small things mean a lot. When you're missing Kawhi, PG & Marcus, all the small things add up.''Support the show

After a grueling, injury-marred 2021-22 season, in which the Los Angeles Clippers clawed their way into the play-in games but failed to advance any further, the Clips have returned for NBA preseason with a clean bill of health and championship expectations. We've brought back our friend Law Murray, Clippers beat reporter for The Athletic, to help us delve into the team some are calling the deepest in the NBA. He discusses the highly anticipated comeback of superstar Kawhi Leonard, what to expect from John Wall, the task ahead for coach Tyronn Lue and much more in this in-depth conversation. 5:34-6:11: “We always talk about 'if healthy.' We always talk about that being such a big swing factor for all teams, but the Clippers, everyone's more sensitive because they're just waiting for something bad to happen. Well, this is a pretty injury-proof team. … This team is going to roll out talent every night; there's just too many guys.” 8:40-9:17: A head coach has to be able to be an effective communicator, with the media, with his star players, with his young players, with his veterans, with the role players who have those roles where they could play 30 minutes or 10 minutes in the same week. And That's where Ty [Lue] excels better than any other place. Ty can get his message across and Ty can keep guys together and Ty can get guys to play hard for him. That's where he's at in his tenure with the Clippers. It's a great spot to be in, but that's an earned spot to be in.” 18:05-18:33: “I think Kawhi has an even greater appreciation of where he's at. I think Kawhi has an even greater appreciation of the guys that he's doing it with. He's been much more open and much more engaging. … Kawhi knows that he's a great player with a finite amount of time to be great going forward.” 21:48-23:35: “John [Wall] said it himself…he ain't gonna be Batman anymore, OK? And I don't even think he's gonna be a Robin…When John played for the Rockets, that was his age-30 season. It was the first time that he came off of not one but two procedures on his Achilles, on his heel. … John also had to deal with his heart too: losing his mom, losing his grandmom, losing his career, losing his original NBA city, all that. … Physically he's going to be different. Emotionally, he's a different person. Mentally, he said he needed help, and he's gotten it, and we expect him to be supported over the course of the year. And with that in mind, the Clippers ain't gonna roll him out there being like, ‘Hey, be the No. 1 pick John Wall, be All-NBA John Wall.'” 38:37-40:32: “Norm[an Powell] is going to be a great teammate. Norm has won a championship; he knows what it takes. Norm has improved parts of his game every year. … I can't believe the Clippers acquired this dude. … He's like the cheat code for them.” John Wall's Players Tribune piece: https://signature.theplayerstribune.com/john-wall-nba-basketball-los-angeles-clippers/p/1 Sponsor: Use code TBPN during sign-up at DraftKings.com to claim your free shot at millions of dollars in total prizes.
