Anthony mourns the loss of Dolly Parton, as her passing was announced right before he went live. He segues awkwardly to JJ Redick's upcoming season, and wonders whether Redick can maintain the same trajectory he's been on through his first two seasons.
Anthony explains that, even while JJ Redick may have been hired for some of the wrong reasons, he thinks Redick has real staying power -- making him a sort of Lakers Ted Lasso. From there, he gives his prediction for Redick's season and answers a couple questions from the live audience.
JJ Redick has some hard-line rules for players who get consistent minutes for him. Anthony thinks there are ways this roster lines up with those rules but some that don't. Redick has grown as a coach to this point and that will have to continue.

Will they get the opportunity to play sooner rather than later? With Gavin out on vacation, Nathaniel returns to the studio just in time for one of the biggest Minnesota sports debates yet: if Anthony Edwards retired today, is he already the greatest Timberwolf of all time? The guys compare Ant's resume to Kevin Garnett, Karl-Anthony Towns, and the rest of the franchise's history while breaking down just how quickly Edwards has climbed the Timberwolves record books. It sparks a conversation about where this current Wolves team ranks among every Minnesota roster and what Ant still needs to accomplish to officially claim the top spot. From there, the conversation shifts to the NBA offseason as the latest LeBron James rumors continue to heat up. Is Minnesota actually a realistic destination? Would Miami or Cleveland make more sense? And how much does adding LaMelo Ball change the Timberwolves' championship outlook? To wrap things up, Nathaniel returns with a full World Cup recap after correctly predicting most of the tournament's biggest outcomes. The crew breaks down Spain's dominant run, controversial VAR decisions, whether third-place matches should exist at all, and the changes they'd make to improve international soccer moving forward. Plus: •ESPN's latest round of layoffs •Kendrick Perkins' legendary "phantom screens" •World Cup hosting controversies •JJ Redick's NBA career earnings •Why athletes are playing at elite levels longer than ever As always, it's debates, offseason speculation, World Cup reactions, and enough random sports rabbit holes to keep the arguments going long after the episode ends. Grant Mona, John Browner and Tim Parker close out the week with a show that gets realer as it goes. John opens the vault on the Kawhi investigation: he thinks it's already done, the league is sitting on it, and the punishment lands soft — 10 to 15 games, Uncle Dennis takes the fall, and Kawhi's cooking by Christmas anyway. Before that, it's MLB doomsday prep: the August 3 trade deadline is a mirage (the Dodgers' IL is their trade deadline), John wants to see how big the monster can get with a Tarek Skubal heist before the salary cap lands, and his research says the lockout math is brutal — sixteen teams under the projected spending floor, six over the cap, and in John's words, there will be NO season at all. The fix? The union should learn from the Savannah Bananas and the 2011 NBA lockout, when Rucker Park and the Drew League kept the players untouchable. Then the post-show goes nuclear: the Rich Paul roast — the daily pod, the economy-flight bit, Grant's courtside story about seeing him in the same outfit as that morning's episode — and John's instant-classic rant on millionaires crying broke. The $5M-isn't-a-lot discourse, the JJ Redick quote, the Nas line, and why Bam Adebayo and Giannis never talk like this. The ticket takers don't care about your tax bracket. New episodes drop nightly. Follow the crew and catch the post-show on X. Directed & Produced by: Grant Mona Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. 0:00 ... Ross welcomes everyone to the show and introduces the crew. 0:32 ... Show #256 is dedicated to Nikola Jokic, who had a triple double last Christmas that included a 56 point scoring night. 0:48 ... Ross begins with the Jaylen Brown trade from the Celtics to the 76ers ... Bruce starts the discussion off with his thoughts on the deal. It was a salary dump and it also allowed the team to avoid having to discuss another super max extension with Brown. World B felt it was a move dictated by Brad Stevens' bosses. 5:20 ... Bruce discusses what it feels like to see Brown going to Philly, an ancient rival of the Celtics. And it was set in motion by Brad Stevens' failure to deal Brown for Giannis Antetokounmpo. 7:19 ... Ross feels like Paul George is nothing special at this point of his career. 7:54 ... Should the Celtics be worried about their outlook next season? Bruce feels like Boston could be anywhere between a 4 and 6 seed and Jayson Tatum as the new "Alpha" will be challenged in the area of leadership. 9:40 ... World B wonders if the Celtics will change their "3 Point Happy" offensive style. 11:08 ... Where does Philadelphia stack up in the east? Joel Embiid is no longer "The Franchise" and his slow pace may be detrimental to the faster style that Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, and Brown will want to play. The Sixers should seriously consider a future move to offload Embiid and his monster contract if possible. World B feels the 76ers are a very thin team even though they look much better on paper with Brown. 16:23 ... The Lakers took a huge swing on Walker Kessler to be Luka Doncic's center. Doncic lost his running mate in LeBron James and with Luka now expected to be the leader of the team, Bruce questions whether he has what it takes "from the neck up" to be a legit team leader and he explains what Luka needs to address in his own performance to become a better leader. 18:01 ... World B feels if LA is a top 4 seed in the west, Luka could be a solid MVP candidate. Kessler has missed a lot of games the past two years so his reliability could be an issue. Ross feels like some of the other signings by LA will help coach JJ Redick implement the type of style that will be successful. 20:45 ... Lots of free agent signings ... John Collins goes to Detroit and replaces Tobias Harris. 22:56 ... Marcus Smart reunites with his former coach in Boston Ime Udoka as a member of the Houston Rockets. Smart fits the Rockets culture perfectly. 24:41 ... Norman Powell leaves the Miami Heat and heads to Chicago ... none of the panelists feel particularly strongly about this move for the Bulls. 36:28 ... Tobias Harris joins the Spurs and brings his experience and mentoring skills to a young team that showed its inexperience in the 2026 Finals against the Knicks. 28:11 ... Andre Drummond replaces Mitchell Robinson with the Knicks as the backup to Karl-Anthony Towns. His rebounding provides similar skills as those of Robinson. 30:24 ... Two interesting Summer League rules will be tested this summer. The "one free throw" experiment is worth a try but Bruce has major issues because at the end of games, there is a lot of strategy surrounding free throws that will be lost if this rule ever becomes permanent. World B questions why there is any need for this rule change AT ALL. 33:07 ... The "connected" basketball is another experiment by the league. Bruce questions how it will even work and if players' fingerprints are part of the equation, the Players Association is likely to have major issues with the use of data like that being used in this way. 35:00 .... Final Thought: Bruce on Lebron James' future. 36:56 ... Final Thought: World B on whether the balance of power is gradually shifting towards the east. 38:39 ... Final thought: Ross on early Summer League standouts so far. 40:26 ... Ross wraps it up and says goodbye TRT 40:41 Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The age-old cliche is that good offense beats good defense. Anthony pushes back just a bit, but that becomes another aspect of his and Pete debate about the roster makeup and the direction Rob Pelinka, JJ Redick and Luka Doncic clearly see the sport.
LeBron's future is once again the biggest story in basketball. The crew breaks down the latest speculation, including whether Golden State is a realistic landing spot and what it would take to build a championship roster around him next season. They also share their favorite LeBron memories, discuss his most entertaining moments on and off the court, and explore what these rumors could mean for JJ Redick as he navigates the pressure of leading a contender. Anthony welcomes Cranjis back into The Lounge to break down JJ Redick's second season.

The crew kicked off Windy Wednesday with Kap and Morales recapping their night at Dodger Stadium, starting with the real story: Kap's poop turned blue from the food-colored tortillas at the Lowe's Level taqueria. The blue toilet talk gave way to a bigger Dodger frustration - Max Muncie didn't challenge a borderline called strike three with the bases loaded in a high-leverage spot, and both guys couldn't let it go. They talked about the Dodgers game more broadly: Yamamoto gave up 3 homers, the offense was flat, and Ohtani hit one out - but only after Kap brought back his Ohtani Trump impression on air the day before. Sedano played a clip from Rob Pelinka and JJ Redick's press conference - specifically the part about having "3 QBs" in LeBron, Luka, and Austin Reaves - and broke down how that trio finally started clicking in March once LeBron sat out and figured out his role by watching. The guys kicked off the hour with birthdays for Darius Rucker and Dennis Rodman - with a funny story about Sedano's viral moment with him. They pivot to the big story: Dave McMenamin's ESPN piece on LeBron feeling disrespected by the Lakers organization. Kap honed in on the key anecdote from Dave's piece - the night LeBron broke the all-time wins record, Rob Pelinka gave the game ball to JJ Redick for his 100th coaching win instead, leaving LeBron feeling taken for granted. Brian Windhorst joins the guys live and said both sides are waiting for the other to move first - the Lakers want LeBron to come back on a team-friendly deal, LeBron wants to hear a real offer that shows they actually want him, and right now nobody's blinking. Windy tries to dissect exactly what a realistic LeBron contract even looks like and whether the Lakers can afford to keep all three guys. Learn more about your ad choices. The guys start the show off reacting to the Lakers' elimination loss. Morales leaned into the chaos and storylines ahead. Sedano and Kap gave the Lakers credit for fighting to the end against a clearly better OKC team and Bergman is sad. Sure, the Lakers got swept - but they were sooo close! Did you think they had it? Is there a world in which they could/should have won? JJ Redick was very reflective in his postgame press conference, and both Sedano and Kap have thoughts on what he said. Sedano made the case that JJ Redick is the best Lakers coach of the last three because he actually coaches instead of managing egos. Dodgers talk! Recorded: May 19, 2022 | JJ Redick came on the bus back in 2022 and delivered one of the most honest, insightful, and hilarious conversations the boys have ever had. From the jump, JJ gets into ranking players in today’s NBA, breaking down what actually separates the greats from the elites, and why those conversations get so heated. The boys dive into the anxiety of starting a podcast and how JJ transitioned from the league into media, including the mental side of knowing when it’s time to walk away from basketball. They also get into a fascinating comparison between NBA players vs. NFL players and how differently each league operates behind the scenes. JJ opens up about what it was like being one of the most hated college athletes in the country, sharing stories from his Duke days that shaped his mindset and career. He also gets real about his lowest moment, the routines that keep him grounded, and why therapy has played such a big role in his life both during and after basketball. Things take a turn with one of the most legendary Tier Talk's in Bussin' history where the boys debate the best pizzas. The show ends with the ultimate debate: MJ or LeBron?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
