Episode 94. Are you a Jew, Christian, or Muslim? Do you wonder about how your holiday this spring intersects with other holidays occurring at or near the same time? What do you make of that? And what does your holiday mean to you? How do you celebrate it? In this month's reflection, I address how Ramadan, Lent, and Passover connect thematically, and in the calendar. In these tense times when so many of us are feeling anxious and distressed, we can either give into that or strive to remember what connects us to be civil and caring and, that we can learn from each other. I personally choose the latter and I'm guessing you do as well. I thought taking a few moments to look at the main themes of these holidays and the calendar of these holidays that we can, get a little relief from the exhaustion and expand, enrich our own spiritual experience.Highlights:Ramadan, Lent and Passover coinciding this year.Ramadan and Lent: Repentance and gratitude.Lent and Passover: Redemption and transformation.Fasting or restriction brings time and reflection.Exodus story as the foundation for both Lent and Passover.Importance of processes over time for renewal and spiritual cleansing.Bio:I am a public scholar and interreligious leader with a keen interest in understanding the nature of similarities and differences––especially religious and cultural. SummaryIn this episode, Liv and Meli explore the concept of the mother wound, discussing its implications on personal relationships and self-identity. They celebrate Meli's engagement and transition into a deep conversation about the archetype of motherhood, the distortions that arise from it, and the importance of understanding attachment and detachment in nurturing roles. The discussion highlights the challenges of over-giving, control, and the need for boundaries, while also emphasizing the cyclical nature of motherhood as seen in the natural world.TakeawaysMeli is engaged, celebrating a significant personal milestone. The mother wound refers to the distortion of mother energy, not limited to biological mothers.Mothering can be expressed in various roles beyond traditional motherhood, including teachers and caregivers.Over-giving often leads to resentment and unhealthy boundaries in relationships.Control issues can stem from a distorted mother wound, impacting relationships negatively. The cycle of attachment and detachment is crucial for healthy mothering.Nature exemplifies the balance of creation and destruction in motherhood.Recognizing the mother wound can help in healing generational trauma.Healthy detachment is essential for personal growth and relationships. The journey of understanding motherhood is ongoing and requires self-awareness. Ali Meli thinks the Fed is trying to create a “new Goldilocks scenario.” He doesn't think the administration can make the trillion-dollar cuts to spending they promised. He also thinks it's “up for debate” whether the cuts they can make will actually help the economy, since they will reduce GDP.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. SummaryIn this episode of Babe Philosophy, Meli and Liv explore the complex question of whether one is a good person. They discuss the nuances of intention versus conditioning, the importance of embracing one's shadow self, and the need to integrate perceived 'bad' traits to foster personal growth. The conversation emphasizes that the pursuit of goodness can often lead to self-limiting beliefs and that true authenticity comes from accepting all aspects of oneself.TakeawaysThe desire to be a good person is nuanced and complex.Intention behind actions is more important than societal definitions of goodness.People-pleasing can stem from the need for external validation.Embracing our shadow self allows for personal growth and authenticity.Being a good person doesn't mean being perfect; it's about learning from mistakes. The traits we label as 'bad' can be integrated for personal success.Energy is neutral; it's how we use it that matters. The pursuit of goodness can sometimes hinder genuine connections with others.Self-acceptance includes acknowledging our flaws and imperfections.Redefining what it means to be a good person can lead to a more fulfilling life.Chapters00:00 The Pursuit of Being a Good Person10:04 Understanding Good and Bad Within Us19:43 Integrating Our Shadow Traits24:32 The Liminal Space of Self-Reflection25:21 Outro(Show notes and captions are AI-assisted. I reflect on my recent conversation with Chris Stevenson, founder of the National Museum of American Religion, who chooses to leave his Mormon faith outside the museum to maintain an inclusive environment. “If you go to buy a beautiful men's suit from a famous brand, you can go to Tokyo, New York, London or in Rome, and it would be the same because it's a brand, okay? So why do you travel? But in Florence, you go to a great tailor who will do a beautiful suit. You decide the textile, you decide the buttons and all the details that you love. And this is a unique piece just for you. And this is what we create every day, for every guest, in a different way. This is the sense of place.”We're in great company with Claudio Meli, the General Manager of The Place Firenze and Michela Babini, the Director of The Place of Wonders Foundation, who together, are tailoring their spirit of hospitality and their curated senses of the guest experience for a new generation of immersive travelers, dedicated to promoting and preserving the heritage of Italian craft. Here, The Place Firenze extends a warm Tuscan welcome, well deserving of their international awards and recognitions as a timeless classic reinventing made-to-measure hospitality - where every detail is inspired by the enduring beauty and traditional artisanship they are proud to have in their beloved city. In this episode, Claudio and Michela delight in the tales and testimonials that continue to unfold as they create a new home for us as travelers to visit in Florence - while curating the next generation of artisans and makers molding Italian craft into a modern day Renaissance. Top Takeaways[3:40] What makes The Hospitality Experience one precious thread woven between hospitality and experience, one family with a long history of curating hotels, one collection of new ideas? Three hotels strongly rooted in remarkable places - Londra Palace in Venice, Borgo dei Conti in Umbria, and The Place Firenze. [4:50] Claudio's love for Florence radiates as he shares stories of his beloved city - a rare treasure where Renaissance masterpieces line the streets and Tuscan vineyards roll just beyond, creating an enchanting blend of art and terroir that has inspired generations.[18:10] The Place Firenze is “deeply connected to its daily life, artistic heritage and lively cultural scene in this vibrant Tuscan city,” from the Scagliola tabletops to the Ginori porcelain table settings, from the Pamploni engraved silver glasses the Spaghetto al Pomodoro and Negroni Experience savored in such company. [28:30] Michela's passion speaks for itself as she shares how The Place of Wonders Foundation breathes life into Italy's cultural heritage by connecting curious travelers with master artisans in Florence, Venice, and Perugia, while nurturing the next generation of craftspeople through dedicated scholarship programs. [32:50] From designing zero kilometer sneakers in Florence to molding glass beads in Murano to weaving on ancient looms in Umbria - the foundation is creating an immersive journey for travelers and the next generation of makers alike - where traditional techniques meet contemporary innovation in workshops that have shaped Italian artistry for centuries.[41:15] Both Claudio and Michela agree there is so much left to be discovered in and around Florence, but it will take a future with more guests seeking slow travel, slow food, and slow moments, to really uncover those hidden gems.
