Landry Fields: Project B Has Players Signed — And the Men's Stars Are Coming

Bucher and Friends

Former NBA player and Atlanta Hawks GM Landry Fields joins Ric Bucher for a special edition of On The Ball to pull back the curtain on Project B, the ambitious new global basketball league aiming to rethink how professional basketball is played, presented and consumed.Fields, now Project B's head of men's basketball, confirms that players are already signed, says recognizable names are coming to the men's side and reveals that announcements should begin rolling out soon. He explains why Project B believes it can lure elite talent with player equity, fewer games and back-to-backs, competitive compensation, greater career longevity and opportunities to build truly global brands. Fields also lays out Project B's unusual F1-style global model, integrating men and women on the same platform while taking events to cities and countries around the world. He discusses the worldwide search for talent, why the women are currently leading Project B's development, and what he learned about leadership, culture and decision-making from stops with the San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks and Overtime Elite.Fields also gets candid about his Hawks tenure and the lesson he carries forward: when you're the decision-maker, set the vision, own the vision and build toward it.And, yes, Ric also uncovers one of the more unexpected chapters of Fields' résumé: the former Knick once impersonated Nicki Minaj, Pitbull and Lionel Richie on national television. After a quick Cavs update touching on James Harden's offseason drama and the roster's EuroLeague pickups, the show turns back to the Browns when caller Tony argues Jimmy Haslam won't let Shedeur Sanders start Week 1 because keeping him in reserve preserves fan intrigue and ticket sales for a season the team doesn't expect to win. Ken pushes back that Haslam is likely deferring to Todd Monken's football judgment rather than dictating the decision himself, but agrees with the business logic Tony lays out if neither quarterback is considered good long-term. Ken argues there's still more curiosity left in Sanders than in Deshaun Watson, so holding him back keeps something in reserve for later in a lost season either way.

Will we see a lopsided amount of production from any one individual? Could we see two Broncos go for 1,000 receiving yards? In this episode, Tyler Clark and Coleman Ayers sit down with Andrew Antelidze, a 25-year-old assistant coach and scout with BC Žalgiris in the EuroLeague. Originally from the Republic of Georgia, Andrew broke into professional basketball through a connection he built while working with the Georgian national team, eventually earning a role under head coach Andrea Trinchieri before expanding his responsibilities under Rokas Masoulis. At just 23, he joined the Žalgiris organization and has since been part of one of the club's most historic seasons, finishing fifth in the EuroLeague.The conversation covers a wide range of tactical ground, from video coordination and scouting philosophy to offensive frameworks, defensive analytics, and practice structure. Andrew shares how Žalgiris built their offense around first-eight-second and last-eight-second shot principles, why tagging up has been a staple of their defense for three seasons, and how they use energy charts and smart fouling metrics to drive physicality. The episode closes with an honest discussion about player development constraints in European basketball, the challenge of developing players during a nine-month season, and what it takes for a young coach to earn and keep a seat at an elite table.TimestampsAndrew joins;
