I encourage everyone to listen to this interview. Why? It's about your longevity. Yes, adding years to your life—and more importantly bringing life to your years. It's about taking control of your health instead of leaving it to chance. I know this firsthand. After undergoing extensive advanced medical testing, I feel empowered. I now understand the changes I must make to enhance my longevity while living my best life. My guest is a visionary cardiologist and entrepreneur, Dr. Anmol Kapoor, founder of BioAro Inc., a Calgary-based firm transforming health care worldwide. Dr. Kapoor believes the key to fixing Canada's fragile health care system is shifting from a Disease-Care System, where resources focus on detecting and treating illness, to a Preventative Care System that identifies potential diseases before they even start. Through cutting-edge AI, genomics, and precision health care, BioAro is pioneering methods to detect mental and physical diseases before they manifest, align the right medications with your DNA, and put your health back in your hands. BioAro's technology is gaining global traction—but will Canada embrace it? If so, we could revolutionize health care, turning it into a system of choice, not chance, while saving taxpayers billions. I'm also joined by Mike Scott from RBC Wealth, who will share how RBC is taking bold steps to help clients protect and grow their wealth and health. This episode is a must-listen for anyone eager to understand the future of health care and the actions they can take today to ensure a healthier tomorrow. Stay tuned until the end, when Dr. Kapoor shares his thoughts on how you can add years to your life by becoming the CEO of your health. Don't miss it—your future self will thank you. For the 33rd installment of the Fanzine Podcast, we welcome Chris Coleman, former editor of at least two important ‘zines from the 1980s post-punk UK Midlands: Stringent Measures and What A Nice Way To Turn Seventeen. The first of these zines straddled a vibrant local indie scene that included the likes of Eyeless In Gaza, In Embrace, Attrition, and the Glass Records label (about which Chris put together a special edition) along with Chris's evident excitement for early U2. What A Nice Way To Turn Seventeen, while maintaining the fanzine format, declared itself musically with a first issue featuring interviews with The Waterboys, The Alarm - and Johnny Thunders, to whom it later dedicated a special issue (as it did Marc Bolan). WANWTTS also put out physical vinyl – EP's and albums alike - that included the likes of The Jazz Butcher, Jasmine Minks, The Membranes, Mike Scott and Nikki Sudden, and which therefore continued to place the zine at the heart of the mid-80s indie music scene. To this day, Chris continues to release records of lost archived recordings on his Seventeen label.Chris spent a Friday night indoors chatting with podcast host Tony Fletcher about his fanzine experiences back in the day. Other fanzines mentioned in this episode include Bucketful Of Brains, Alternative Sounds and Adventures In Reality, and the conversation also diverges into the likes of R.E.M. and The Smiths. We get to hear how Chris's parents once collated and stapled and distributed zines for him while he was on holiday, and we find out which of the aforementioned musicians once commented to him, “You have great veins.” (Hint: it should be obvious.)Visit https://tonyfletcher.substack.com/p/what-a-nice-way-to-turn-seventeen for images of some vintage What A Nice Way To Turn Seventeen, to find similar posts and pages dedicated to earlier Fanzine Podcasts, and for Tony's twice-weekly writings. Thanks to Noel Fletcher for the theme music, and Greg Morton at Omnibus Press for the logo template. The Best of Jamming!: Selections and Stories from the Fanzine That Grew Up 1977-86 is available from here. Released in October 1988, Fisherman's Blues marked a significant departure for The Waterboys, showcasing a rich blend of Celtic folk, country, and rock influences. The album is a soulful exploration of frontman Mike Scott's evolving musical vision, moving away from the "big music" sound of their earlier records toward a more organic and roots-oriented style. The title track, "Fisherman's Blues," is a heartfelt anthem that combines yearning lyrics with a stirring violin melody, capturing the album's central themes of wanderlust and spiritual searching. Other standout tracks include their reinterpretation of Van Morrison's "Sweet Thing," the poignant "And a Bang on the Ear," and the haunting "The Stolen Child," which features W.B. Yeats' poetry set to music. The album was recorded across several years in Ireland and California, lending it an eclectic, yet cohesive feel. It's a celebration of tradition, storytelling, and musical camaraderie, earning Fisherman's Blues its place as a beloved classic in The Waterboys' discography and a touchstone for fans of genre-blending folk-rock.Listen to the album on Apple Music Listen to the album on Spotify What did you think of this album? The Waterboys' MIKE SCOTT grew up in the '60s in Edinburgh and said: “I accepted the incredible happenings of that decade — with all its rapid evolution, colour, revelations and magic — as the normal order of things". At the age of 4 he had his first mystical experience and remembers that from the minute he bought "Last Night in Soho" by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich in 1968 he knew he had to live a life in music. In the years since he has toured the world with The Waterboys and as a solo artist, had hit records with The Whole of the Moon, This is the Sea and Fishermans Blues andhas released 15 albums. Now, The Waterboys have a new one featuring Bruce Springsteen, Steve Earle and Fiona Apple about to drop and it's a song cycle around the life of legendary actor and countercultural polymath Dennis Hopper. Mike has been unashamedly open about the importance of spirituality in his life - even when that has been deeply unfashionable in the mainstream culture. He came to the Bureau to talk about all of that, his time at the Findhorn Foundation, Life, Death and Dennis Hopper - and much more. pWotD Episode 2731: Fernando Valenzuela Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 412,854 views on Wednesday, 23 October 2024 our article of the day is Fernando Valenzuela.Fernando Valenzuela Anguamea (Latin American Spanish pronunciation: [feɾˈnando βalenˈswela]; November 1, 1960 – October 22, 2024) was a Mexican-American professional baseball pitcher. Valenzuela played 17 Major League Baseball (MLB) seasons, from 1980 to 1997 (except for a one-year sabbatical in Mexico in 1992). While he played for six MLB teams, his longest tenure — and most significant achievements — were with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which signed him in 1979 and gave him his MLB debut in 1980. Valenzuela batted and threw left-handed, with an unorthodox windup. He was one of a small number of pitchers who regularly threw a screwball in the modern era.Valenzuela enjoyed his breakout year in 1981, when "Fernandomania" rapidly catapulted him from relative obscurity to stardom. He won his first eight starts, five of them shutouts, and dazzled not just the Dodgers and their fans, but all of Major League Baseball. He finished with a record of 13–7 and had a 2.48 ERA in a season that was shortened by a player's strike. He became the first, and as of 2024, only player to win both the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year awards in the same season. The Dodgers won the World Series that year.Valenzuela peaked from 1981 to 1986, when he was named a National League (NL) All-Star in each season. He won an NL-leading 21 games in 1986, although Mike Scott of the Houston Astros narrowly beat him out in the Cy Young Award voting. Valenzuela was also one of the better hitting pitchers of his era. He had ten career home runs and was occasionally used by Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda as a pinch-hitter. In 1986, he signed the largest contract for a pitcher in baseball history ($5.5 million/3 years). However, nagging shoulder problems diminished the remainder of his Dodgers career. He was on the Dodgers' 1988 World Series championship team, but sat out the postseason with a shoulder injury. On June 29, 1990, Valenzuela threw his only MLB no-hitter against the St. Louis Cardinals, leading Los Angeles to a 6–0 home victory in his final season as a Dodger. Despite this renewed flash of greatness, the Dodgers unceremoniously released Valenzuela prior to the 1991 season. He spent the rest of his major league career with the California Angels, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, and St. Louis Cardinals, before pitching a couple of seasons in Mexico in his 40s.Valenzuela returned to the Dodgers organization after retiring, serving as a broadcaster from 2003 to 2024, the year of his death. The Dodgers retired his No. 34 in 2023. His career highlights include a win-loss record of 173–153, with an earned run average (ERA) of 3.54. His 41.5 career wins above replacement (according to Baseball-Reference) is the highest of any Mexican-born MLB player. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 02:19 UTC on Thursday, 24 October 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Fernando Valenzuela on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Niamh.

Today we have something totally different for your Thursday! With the Memorial Day Weekend and terrible storms with power outages in the area this past weekend, we didn't have a Live Call-in Show on Sunday night. However, we did have ScottyG in town from Michigan, as well as our friend Jared from over in Illinois! While they were visiting here in the BOGP Studios later on Sunday evening, during our tour of the Studio, we went LIVE and interacted with well over 100 listeners and recorded it. Today, you get to hear 3 great friends just having fun on the holiday weekend sharing a love of Disney with friends from around the world. I know this isn't our typical show and hope you will allow this deviation from the format today, but also hope that maybe this will be a fun distraction to your normal work day as well! Have a wonderful Thursday! See you over in the BOGP Clubhouse at www.beourguestpodcast.com/discord!

The amazing Mike Scott returns to the podcast to go deep on the Waterboys' 1985 masterpiece This is the Sea. This benchmark album has been released in a massive 6-disc deluxe edition that includes almost 100 tracks, many of which have never been heard before, and a hardback book all of which tells the story of the album's creation. Mike takes us track by track through the original album, the contributions from other band members and where his head was at back then. If any classic album deserves the deluxe treatment, it's this one. We're honored to hear a part of that story. www.mikescottwaterboys.com www.patreon.com/thehustlepod
