This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.houseofstrauss.comSpike Eskin of Rights to Ricky Sanchez is here because a few of his favorite characters are in the news. Frankly, there's no better person to cover Doc Rivers vs. JJ Redick as it plays out in the media. Who's right? Who's wrong? Does Spike hate JJ more than JJ hates basketball fans? Topics...* Spike on where Doc is lying* ESPN's hilariously unbelievable reporting on Doc taking the Bucks job* Why did Redick get blasted for his correct take on Doc?* Redick's bizarre meta media critique and “54K pageviews” humblebrag* Redick's appeal as Twitter mirror* JJ's postseason vulnerability * Why does Spike hate JJ? * How Tony Romo went from great to less great announcer* I failed my customers by doing too much football this season* What's with writers fearing AI replacement?
If you make a podcast or like sports, you will enjoy this episode. Spike Eskin runs all of the programming at New York's WFAN, the original and biggest sports talk radio station, and he's only the second person ever to have that job. Now you're probably thinking, doesn't everyone just listen to podcasts now? Well, the answer to that is no, but don't worry. He's also got a podcast, a big one, and his podcast, The Rights to Ricky Sanchez, is frequently ranked at the top basketball podcast charts. It's only focused on a single team, the 76ers, but it's been big enough to get a full chapter in a book, and several audience gatherings have been featured on Sports Center highlights. So he is the coach and he is the talent. During our conversation, we go through traits Spike looks for in audio hosts, the benefits and challenges of having practitioners like athletes sitting in the hosting chair, and differences in sponsorship dynamics between radio and podcasting frameworks for good content. Spike Eskin is the VP of programming for WFAN and CBS Sports Radio and the host of a popular basketball podcast called “The Rights to Ricky Sanchez”. Given the proliferation of ultra-trail running media coverage in recent years, I figured this would be a good time to talk with an expert in sports programming and commentary from the major sports world that we can take lessons and insights from to bring back to our growing world. Whether you're an athlete, a fan, a race director, a brand manager, or a media operator yourself, I think you'll have many takeaways from this one. Michael Levin from the Rights to Ricky Sanchez podcast joins Dan Devine for an episode of Devine Intervention that goes all the way back to the “Process Era” Philadelphia 76ers up to this year's team and hits on almost everything in between.00:00 - COUNT ME IN04:00 - Tyrese Maxey09:00 - Sixers' past15:40 - Embiid & Harden23:40 - 2023-24 Philadelphia 76ers43:00 - How Dare You50:10 - Closing Five61:10 - Weekly RecommendationsThis week on Devine Intervention, Dan Devine is joined by Michael Levin from the Rights to Ricky Sanchez podcast to talk about the Philadelphia 76ers.They kick things off by talking about Tyrese Maxey, fresh off a 50-point game and thriving as the engine that drives the Sixers' offense. Michael tells us how good Maxey has been on the court, and then explains why Maxey is the least Philadelphia-type of person to ever be loved by Philly sports fans.We can't move forward without first looking back, so Dan and Michael take a journey back to all of the catastrophic twists and turns the 76ers have found themselves in over the last decade or so of basketball before discussing what it will feel like for a Sixers fan should the team win the NBA Championship. The last six months have been particularly chaotic, from the meltdown against the Boston Celtics in the playoffs to James Harden's trade demand and public fighting with GM Daryl Morey, and Michael explains how and why he was ready to give up on this team before the season even began.Nick Nurse has the Sixers playing a faster, more modern style of basketball than what Doc Rivers was getting from them, and we're seeing a more engaged Joel Embiid as a result of that. Now, the question is what do the Sixers do next? Do they use their trade assets to bring in a wing to pair with Embiid and Maxey, or do they wait and try and get someone in free agency? Finally, we end the show with some fun. Michael and Dan play a game of “How Dare You”, where each guy talks about one NBA thing that has them aggrieved. Then, Dan hits Michael with “The Closing Five”, five quick questions to help us learn a little bit more about the guys, before finishing with recommendations from both guys.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports PodcastsSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

To hear more, visit www.houseofstrauss.comI needed a talking to by the HoS Podbudsman, otherwise known as Spike Eskin of Rights to Ricky Sanchez and WFAN fame. Boy, did I get one in an appearance where Spike explains how I'm being a whiner and what I must do to fix it. Despite whatever emotional injury I withstood, I always value Spike's advice because he's an astute radio/pod professional and well intentioned friend. Podcast discussions include but aren't limited to the following topics…* The aftermath of Aaron Rodgers' disaster on the New York talk radio scene* What it sounded like when a host was dangerously optimistic about the Jets* Why Spike thinks I'm being a “whiny baby” about Elon Musk suppressing links on X* What I must do stop being a whiner and thrive* Is Spike jealous that I got to (briefly) meet the ladies of Red Scare? * A beef that Spike has with a commentator of mine about politics* Deion Sanders' popular college football ascent and its search for opposing forces* Adam Silver both sidesing players not honoring their contracts

To hear more, visit www.houseofstrauss.comSaam Esfandiari and Spike Eskin are, respectively, co-hosts of the Light Years podcast (Warriors) and The Rights to Ricky Sanchez podcast (76ers). Both teams had their seasons end in searing disappointment over the weekend, which can be a tricky outcome to handle if you're running a fan pod. Both guys handle failure expertly though, so we got into the nitty gritty of how that goes, plus some of their theories on players and media. Conversation topics include but aren't limited to…* The Ricky fans are broken; The Warriors fans…less so* How to make fans characters in your pod universe* I hate being wrong about sports takes. Saam and Spike think it's key to not fear this* Is “loser energy” real? Are certain highly paid, incredibly successful athletes…losers?* Can it be possible that the fans care more about the outcome than players?* Does Doc Rivers have loser energy?* Was Joel Embiid maliciously taken out of context when quoted saying, “Me and James, we can't win alone”?* Is the normie take correct and Draymond Green really did doom the Warriors' season by punching Jordan Poole?* At 1:04:45 we discuss an accidentally hilarious article by an SF Gate writer who attended a Dave Chappelle show in San Francisco and was aghast.

He might not be the biggest player on the field, but pound-for-pound, Ricky Sanchez might have the biggest impact on any baseball team he's ever been on. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound infielder quickly became a sparkplug with Dawgs Academy after moving to Alberta from Mexico City in high school, following his brother Eddie as well as former Dawg and current Cincinnati Reds infielder Alejo Lopez. His performance earned him a spot with the Barton College Cougars, where in 2022, he hit a blistering .442 with nine homers, 90 RBI and 27 stolen bases in 59 games. Sanchez followed that up by hitting .342 with two homers, 39 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 52 games for the WCBL's Dawgs, helping them win a championship while he was named the league's MVP. We caught up with Sanchez just before the college season got rolling to talk about what he plans to do for an encore in 2023, committing to Lamar University to continue his post-secondary career, and the importance of family. You can also read our latest story on Sanchez here.

We heard from Travis, who is the husband of Danielle, the woman trying to help Eddie navigate life. Jerry returns for an update but first Eddie the picks jockey calls in and Boomer yells at him. The fun is over. Based on Eddie's behavior, we are returning all of the Go Fund Me teeth money. And just like that, the fun is over. We have cut Eddie the picks jockey out of our lives. RIP. The Knicks won their sixth straight by beating Boston last night. Pat McAfee talked about getting served by Brett Favre. In the final segment of the hour, a radio DJ in San Francisco is missing. If you make a podcast or like sports, you're gonna enjoy this episode. We've brought on someone I consider to be an audio genius. Spike Eskin runs all of programming at New York's WFAN, the original and biggest sports talk radio station, and he's only the second person to ever have that job. Now you're probably thinking, doesn't everyone just listen to podcasts now? Well, the answer to that is no, but don't worry, he's also got a podcast. A big one. And his podcast, The Rights to Ricky Sanchez is frequently ranked atop the basketball podcast charts. It's only focused on a single team, the 76ers, but it's been big enough to get a full chapter in a book, and several audience gatherings have been featured on Sports Center highlights. So he is the coach and he is the talent. During our convo, we go through traits that Spike looks for in audio hosts, the benefits and challenges of having practitioners like athletes sitting in the hosting chair, strategies for getting audience feedback beyond maniacs on Twitter, while still keeping love for the maniacs on Twitter, and differences in sponsorship dynamics between radio and podcasting framework for good content. Lots of interesting lessons here, and once I wrap up with Spike, Dom and I will do our normal debrief on lessons from both the interview and the conversation more broadly about how we can apply this to the Colossus business. Enjoy this episode and conversation with Spike. For a sixth time in franchise history, the Okotoks Dawgs are the top dogs of the Western Canadian Baseball League. In front of a packed Seaman Stadium, the Dawgs clinched the title with a 4-1 win over the Moose Jaw Miller Express Thursday night. Head to our website to check out the full story. After the game, we caught up with Playoff MVP Brendan Luther, outfielder Micah McDowell, pitcher Matt Wilkinson, infielder Ricky Sanchez, outfielder Alejandro Cazorla and head coach Mitch "Big Bear" Schmidt.
Sixers Beat Writer Adam Aaronson from The Rights to Ricky Sanchez joined the podcast to revisit one of the most insane times in Sixers fandom history, Burnergate! Before this, we touched on the news that the NBA is investigating the Sixers and James Harden for tampering ... which should not be a surprise to anyone! Next we dove head first into Burnergate where we talked about the night that the Ringer story from Ben Detrick first broke, the origins of his "source" for this story and how Adam started digging into the burner accounts himself. We also discussed his disdain for his own players in the tweets including former number one overall pick Markelle Fultz and Sixers MVP candidate Joel Embiid and some of the most insane tweets that Adam found while searching through the Twitter accounts. Including one tweet that blew my mind. Finally we discussed an alternative universe in which Colangelo is never first and how that could have effected the Sixers 2018 and 2019 moves and changed the trajectory of the franchise. Enjoy! I was joined by Zo from the Rights to Ricky Sanchez to discuss SOME FRESH HOT SIXERS TRADE SLOP. The Deal Zone king himself Brian Windhorst leaked some information about the Sixers plans to pursue a third star this offseason and why the draft lottery could effect those plans. Would the team really be willing to trade Philadelphia hero Tyrese Maxey in order to get a third star? We discussed out thoughts on that and tried to guess the third star Windhorst might be hinting at in this interview. Also we discussed: is Doc Rivers really going to be back, how the Sixers can become DAWGS, the Suns major collapse and gave our conference finals and finals predictions. Enjoy! Afterwards, Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith stops by to chat about the Blue Jays' 7-1 loss to the Red Sox on Wednesday, Hyun-Jin Ryu's murky rehab process, Bo Bichette's early-season struggles, and Alek Manoah's emergence as a front-line starter (24:47). On today's bonus episode of The Gastroenteritis Blues, Dan, Emily and Steve are joined by Mike O'Connor of The Rights to Ricky Sanchez. First, Mike and the gang talk about a recent exchange Mike had online about NBA catch-all metrics and why he believes they're inherently flawed and thus should not be used as lynchpins in one's MVP campaign. Then they get into the nuts and bolts of why Nikola Jokic seems all but sure to run away with this year's award (sigh). Then, they do a full preview of the first round series coming up between the Sixers and the Raptors. How much will the Sixers miss Matisse Thybulle in Toronto? How much will Paul Reed actually make an impact (if he actually plays)? How should the Sixers defend Pascal Siakam? All that, much more, plus each hosts official prediction for the series. Sam Vecenie is joined by a pair of awesome guests to break down one of the most action-packed NBA Trade Deadlines in recent memory. First, Michael Levin of The Rights to Ricky Sanchez and TV writer fame joins to break down the Ben Simmons-James Harden deal, the biggest midseason trade that has happened in the NBA in a long time. Then, Mo Dakhil joins to break down the rest of the NBA Trade Deadline. We chat Simmons-Harden for a bit at the top, then move to the Kristaps Porzingis move, the Derrick White trade to Boston, the four-teamer involving Donte Divincenzo and Marvin Bagley, the Thad Young-Goran Dragic deal and everything else that occurred -- or in the Lakers case, did not occur -- on a wild deadline day. We talk very little about the loss to the Wizards, then Spike finally comes around on the Maxey love and we discuss how far he's come, and the idea of him being included in a star trade. Then we take a few moments to break down and roast the new ESPN inside story about Ben Simmons, and some clips from Woj and Ramona Shelborne on his podcast. We discuss the likelihood Simmons gets traded as well. Finally, Mike is confused by crypto and gives some recommendations about kitchen sponges. *The Ricky is now available on video on Spotify.* The Rights To Ricky Sanchez is presented by Draft Kings Sportsbook. It is a special week on The Gastroenteritis Blues as Steve and Dan (Emily is away on her Honeymoon) have a Mega Pod for you! First up is Sam Amick of The Athletic, who returns to the podcast to discuss his big report this week on the state of the Sixers' trade talks for Ben Simmons. What is Sam's feeling on whether or not the Sixers will be trading Simmons before the February 10 trade deadline (hint: :)). Sam also touches on the possibility of the Sixers being able to attach Tobias Harris to Simmons in a trade before the deadline. He details the status of talks between the Sixers and The Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves and more. Then, they're joined by Sixers Adam Aaronson of The Rights to Ricky Sanchez, who dives into the Sixers' salary cap situation. With reports swirling that the Sixers' effort to offload Harris in a Simmons trade is in pursuit of max cap space this summer, Steve and Dan wanted to consult Adam about the exact machinations of freeing up that space. Would Adam, personally, prefer the Sixers trade Tobias or recoup an extra two Sacramento first round picks? What does he think of John Collins as a trade target? What ancillary moves would need to be made in order to pursue James Harden on the open market? Finally, Steve and Dan discuss this week's games, as Joel Embiid has continued to solidify his MVP candidacy, the Sixers have severed ties with a fake company named Color Star, and then Steve, Dan, Drew and Emily from afar predict next week's games. Huge thank you to Sam and Adam for joining us. Subscribe to our new YouTube channel here! Rate, subscribe, review, follow and enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Over the past 20 years Ricky and Karen have been on a mission to create a safe home for children in Thailand who are born with HIV/Aids and orphaned at a young age. They also speak to the long-term benefit of partnering with college athletes to play sports and teach clinics among impoverished communities in Thailand and SE Asia. They first chat about which direction the Sixers were trending when the season was shut down, and how the emergence of Shake Milton with Ben Simmons injured set the stage for Brett Brown's decision to move Simmons to the four full-time. Next they discuss what to expect from Philly once the season restarts, and try to determine what the ideal seeding set-up for Philly might be, Lastly they take a look at what hypothetical match-ups between the Sixers and both the Raptors and Bucks might play out.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
