On this weeks episode of The FM Show podcast, we're joined by creator of The League, Zealand, and the one and only, Stanz. Zealand has managed to organise 20 creators to take part in an online draft and league, which is a massive challenge. We struggle to co-ordinate just 3 of us to the do the Patreon Network save. We talk about how the idea came together and how Zealand has been able to merge two communities by bringing the Football Manager and EAFC communities together to compete against each other. Stanz is a huge content creator, and Football Manager fan, and having recently started streaming FM, so we're keen to hear from him as to how he found the community and what he hopes for the future. Whether you're a big New Year's Resolutions person or not, it's never a bad idea to take stock our own spiritual lives. Where might we want to grow in our relationship with God? So host Mike Jordan Laskey invited one of our favorite spirituality experts onto the show: Julianne Stanz. Julianne is the Director of Outreach for Evangelization and Discipleship at Loyola Press. She's also an acclaimed author and international speaker. A native of Ireland, Julianne was shaped by that country's deep and distinctive Catholicism. And in line with one of the very best Irish stereotypes, Julianne is also one of the best storytellers around. Julianne came up with three possible spiritual resolutions we might want to try out in the New Year. All three is are both meaningful and accessible. As a mom of three kids, Julianne knows huge time-intensive commitments in the spiritual life just can't work for everyone. No matter your stage of life, you'll enjoy hearing Julianne's ideas and stories. Happy New Year from all of us here at the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States. Daytime swordfishing began in Venezuela when Aquiles Garcia and Captain Oscar Benito Marcano used a bag of rocks to get their bait down to where these prized fish swim in extreme depths during daylight hours. In 1997, on the La Guaira bank many Captains started to target these billfish with confidence. It wasn't refined until two brothers, Richard and Scott Stanczyk started to consistently catch them in the Florida Keys around 2002. But it was Richards son, Nick, that took the swordfish game to new heights catching an estimated 2,000 fish with a personal best of a 757lber. Nick grew up on the docks in the sport fish capital of the world (Islamorada) and began catching snappers before he could walk. He later attended the University of Miami but always knew he was going to make his living on the water. Nick has gained a massive audience in the last 8 years with social media and marketing himself as the guy that consistently catches broadbill swordfish. Currently he is taking more time off spending time with his family and growing his YouTube and Stanz fishing apparel line. Although, if you want to catch one of these monsters of the deep he still remains one of the top captains in this genre of fishing. On todays podcast, Nick talks about his family's relationship with swordfish and his profound legend of catching them...

Summary: “I think to look at the catechism as a just book would be a mistake.” Edmund welcomes Julianne Stanz, author, speaker, USCCB consultant and Director of Parish Life and Discipleship for the Diocese of Green Bay. Julianne shares her extensive knowledge on discipleship and how she sees the role of the Catechism within the life of a missionary disciple. Get to know her story, how her relationship with the Catechism changed over time, and how the Church defines the two dimensions of the Catechism itself. (00:37) Julianne Stanz, a nationally known speaker, retreat leader, storyteller, the Director of Parish Life and Discipleship in Diocese of Green Bay and a consultant to the USCCB Committee on Catechesis and Evangelization is welcomed onto this episode of the Real+True podcast. She is the author of Braving the Thin Places, Start with Jesus: How Everyday Disciples Will Renew the Church, Developing Disciples of Christ, and co-author of The Catechist's Backpack. (4:40) What is missionary discipleship? Julianne shares, “You hear good news every single time you go to Mass, the Gospel of the Lord.” And that our relationship with good news will change how we share it. Do we see it as good? Edmund shares that the context of being on a mission trip prompts him to behave differently — including being much more open to the Holy Spirit, and to pray with people on the spot. But once he returned home, he saw that behavior left behind. Julianne shares that context is important when we're talking about missionary discipleship. (12:48) “God does not use our ability, he blesses our availability.” Julianne encourages listeners who want to share the Gospel but aren't sure how to pray, “Lord, use me." And then pray for the opportunity for him to use you in just very concrete ways.” Edmund highlights that the Informative Dossier, a Church document which explains the Catechism in more depth, says that the Catechism is conciliar (from the Church) and missionary (for the purpose of sharing the Gospel.) Julianne shares, “When you receive the Eucharist, you become a tabernacle with feet,” highlighting the reality that our lives as missionary disciples are extensions of our relationship with Jesus. (21:35) “What has your experience of the Catechism been?” Julianne shares about her conversion and encountering the Catechism as a 17-year-old student in Dublin and how her relationship with the Catechism changed overtime as she saw it less of a textbook but more of an encounter with God. And this led her to her excitement when she was asked to be an Advisor for Real+True. Edmund invites Julianne to address mistakes she often sees in evangelization “Recognize the person in front of you is not somebody that is half full that you need to fill up with information. But God already dwells in the person's heart because he always precedes us.” This episode is supported by NCEA, https://www.ncea.org/NCEA2023/whyattendAn OSV Podcasts partner. DescriptionYou know the verses about love in 1 Corinthians Ch. 13? It's the reading that you always hear at weddings. St. Paul starts by saying, “...if I don't have love I am a resounding gong and a clanging cymbal.” 1 Cor 13:1bPeople speaking to Catholic audiences have a similar bar to hit - do we have love in our heart for the people God allows us to speak to? And if we don't, how can we gain that love for them? In my conversation with Julianne Stanz, a world-class Catechist, she shares how to cultivate that love, but also how that love is evidenced in and through ‘encouragement', which meant to literally ‘give heart' to another. This intentionality is so needed in our day.
