I always love to hear your personal stories of transitioning into retirement, so I was delighted when listener Mary Dixon suggested her brother, John Bonney as a podcast guest. In late May I spoke with John and asked him about his long career in the fire brigade, which culminated in him being chief of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service for 11 years. During this time, he also served as President of his professional body and in 2015 he was honoured with a CBE in recognition of his service to the public. On leaving the fire service after 33 years, instead of heading into retirement, John embarked on new business challenges that fulfilled his ambition of combining work and travel. John shares his story of how he transitioned successfully from a very high status role at work to being the ex-Fire Chief. He explains how having the right mindset allowed him to adapt and shares his tips on making a smooth transition to the next stage of life. It's a fascinating conversation, so why not listen here on episode 088 of The Retirement Café Podcast.
Craig Dellimore chats with Mary Dixon, longtime co-host on WXRT-FM, and Mark Grote, Sports Reporter and Host on WSCR 670 and WBBM, about 2019's top stories, including a new Chicago Mayor, a new Illinois Governor, and lots of controversies.
XRT Morning Show Producer Chris Cwiak isn't one to be front and center of a radio show, but his impact is heard every morning on the radio. We spoke with him to get the behind the scenes look at the critical role a producer plays to a radio show, working with talent, the best and worst guests he's encountered in his career, and what to do when an interview goes south. Topics include: What's the role of a radio producer (1:45), producing for Stan Lawrence/Terry Armour/Garry Meier (5:55), how to contribute your ideas to the show while meshing with talent (9:20), the difference between producing talk and music radio (12:35), how to book guests (15:52), the most interesting guests and interviews that go south (25:35), quick hit questions (41:40). Award-winning journalist and XRT Morning Show co-host and news anchor Mary Dixon discusses how people can use a few tried and true journalistic practices to help disseminate information. She also speaks on the evolution of media and what the future looks like for journalists.
