Today's Headlines: ICE has halted most traffic stop arrests nationwide after killing two people in one week who weren't even their targets — and before that pause could even be properly announced, a third ICE-related death occurred in Florida when a man fleeing an early morning gas station stop was hit by a tractor-trailer, bringing the week's total to three. Elon Musk has been referred for potential criminal prosecution in Wisconsin after a bipartisan election board found probable cause he violated the state's bribery law by handing $1 million checks to voters during last year's Supreme Court race — his guy lost by ten points anyway, so the bribery was both illegal and ineffective. The Supreme Court is requesting $15 million in additional security funding after threats against justices jumped 25% last year and are expected to jump another 40% this year. On the Epstein Files beat, Todd Blanche's Senate confirmation hearing to become the real attorney general is today, right as New Mexico's attorney general accused him of obstructing the state's investigation into Epstein's Zorro Ranch — where documents allege Epstein had two women buried — so the timing is immaculate. On Iran, Trump dropped the Strait of Hormuz toll idea and went back to threatening Iranian civilian infrastructure, while also telling Netanyahu to pull Israeli troops out of Syria and Lebanon. Meanwhile, the Trump administration removed protections on nearly three million acres of Utah national monuments to allow drilling and mining, despite Utah officials saying there's little energy potential at Bears Ears and companies previously found Grand Staircase-Escalante's coal deposit unprofitable during Trump's first term — so the destruction is both gratuitous and pointless. And finally, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a one-year ban on data center construction in the state while assessing their environmental impact, which is the most rational thing anyone in government has done all week. Well, we made it through July 4th weekend! The "Great American State Fair" continued to frustrate and disappoint the weird few who insisted on attending. Or trying to, anyway. Fake "pavilions" filled with half-assed "exhibits" that lots of states wanted nothing to do with. Even so, some were made to look like they were participating, even when they weren't. And the look was not good! All-in-all, we should just be glad they didn't burn anything down. Greg Dworkin was here to remind us that there was plenty of other stuff happening this weekend, anyway. Bribery, marching Nazis, FIFA corruption. You know, the usual. Speaking of those marching Nazis, know why it was so easy to get so many of them into DC on July 4th? Probably because they were already there. Interesting developments in the Michigan Senate race, where state senator Mallory McMorrow ended her campaign, leaving just two main Dem contenders in the race. Where will her voters go? Not easy to tell. They'll probably all turn socialist! But not for the reason you might think: i.e., that they're socialists now. They probably just want someone who'll kick a little ass. And there are a lot that need kicking. Meanwhile, the regular onslaught of corruption stories continued unabated. Along with a bunch of people Trump claimed were jailed for "fixing their cars," he also pardoned (by strange coincidence) yet another Perv-A-Lago fraudster, this time one maybe tied to a wee bit of murder. And just for a bit of semiquincentennial fun, what movies best capture America? Well, hold onto your Uncle Sam hats, because America's Poet Laureate might just be the creator of Beavis and Butt-Head.
In this explosive live episode of The Clay Edwards Show, Clay teams up with co-host and criminal defense attorney Sean Yurkuran (1TextLaw.com) to break major developing news: former Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is expected to accept a federal plea deal as early as Monday in the Jackson Convention Center hotel bribery case. Drawing from trusted sources, Clay and Sean dive deep into the latest on the "Free the Land Three" — Lumumba, former Hinds County DA Jody Owens (who already took a plea), and Councilman Aaron Banks (still headed to trial on July 13). They break down the evidence, the shifting defenses, the "stream of benefits" bribery arguments, Jody's cooperation, and what sentences could realistically look like (around 5 years / 80% confinement for the main players). The conversation expands into the broader collapse of public trust in Hinds County's justice system — from the Anthony Fox setup to the damage caused by elected officials selling out the community. Clay and Sean also discuss prosecutorial experience vs. slogans, the long history of corruption in Jackson (across party and racial lines), deterrence, karma, and why these cases matter far more than typical street crime. Additional highlights: - DUI advice for the 4th of July weekend - Sean's contact info for criminal defense needs - Raw talk on public officials, optics, and accountability A must-listen for anyone following Jackson/Hinds County politics, public corruption, or the fight to Save JXN. **Guest/Co-host:** Sean Yurkuran, former Hinds County prosecutor & current criminal defense attorney **Text/Call for legal help:** (601) 862-1320 or 1TextLaw.com

**Podcast Description – Episode #1245** On this episode, Clay reacts to the shocking news that Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens has taken a plea deal in the Jackson Convention Center bribery scandal just two weeks before trial. Owens pleaded guilty to conspiracy and faces a maximum of five years, a move that caught many off guard given his earlier insistence that he would go to trial. Clay is joined by a strong legal panel: Shaun Yurtkuran (former Hinds County ADA turned criminal defense attorney), Kingfish from JacksonJambalaya.com, and Scott Gilbert, a veteran criminal defense attorney and former federal prosecutor who recently secured a major federal win. Together they break down the plea deal, what Owens likely gave up in exchange for cooperation, and how this move strengthens the government's case against the remaining defendants — former Jackson mayor Chokwe Lumumba and former city councilman Aaron Banks. The conversation covers the strength of the evidence (audio, video, money trails), why this was likely the best outcome Owens could realistically get, and what it means for the upcoming trial. They also discuss the broader issues of public corruption prosecutions, deterrence versus community protection, and why results in the courtroom often don't serve as a deterrent to future crime. It's a raw, in-depth look at one of the biggest political corruption cases in Mississippi in years.
In this episode we will be breaking down the massive federal bribery probe that has sent shockwaves through One Police Plaza. Feds descended on the residences of former Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, former Deputy Commissioner Tarik Sheppard, and active Assistant Chief James McCarthy (who was immediately stripped of his gun and modified). Allegations suggest a deep-rooted "favors-for-promotions" pipeline where top brass allegedly took bribes to manipulate NYPD assignments, transfers, and rank advancements. This chaos unfolded on the exact same morning the FBI arrested Frank Carone—the powerful former Chief of Staff to ex-Mayor Eric Adams—in a completely separate, multi-million dollar migrant crisis shelter bribery and money laundering scheme. (1) In the setting of Londinium, 92 AD, Gaius and Germanicus engage in a series of debates comparing the struggles of the ancient Roman Empire to the paradigms of power and exhaustion in the 21st century. Embracing Defeat: Strategic Bribery in the Middle East. Addressing the conflict with Iran, Germanicus proposes "embracing defeat" as a sophisticated path to a "win-win" resolution. He likens proposed financial investments to Roman tributes paid to the Sarmatians to secure frontiers. While Gaius skeptically questions if this is merely a bribe, Germanicus maintains that "bribing to deescalate" is a pragmatic tool used by great powers to achieve stability without perpetual war. Senior Associate Editor Steve Hallo reports that former insurance executive Greg Lindberg has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for orchestrating a $2 billion fraud scheme that evolved to include money laundering and bribery.
Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text!Length:49 minutesSynopsis: This morning (6/18/26), in lieu of morning Mishlei, we had the last Q&A - and last shiur! - of the 2025-2026 season. We took up four questions: (1) What are the parameters of philosophical/ethical bribery? (2) How do you navigate having friends who could potentially have a bad influence on you, and how might you have a good influence on them? (3) What would you say to a person who is unaware that the Torah cares about our inner life? (4) How does one explain our yeshiva when asked about it? (I was actually asked another question about my thoughts on the role of Israel in our Jewish life, but I declined to answer - not only because I keep all my Zionism articles behind a paywall, but because I'm considering writing another one this summer and I don't want to make any statements until I've written it.)This was my last YBT shiur of 2025-2026, and what a great year it's been. Remember long, long ago in the old-timey days of politics, way back… maybe 10 years or so?In those olden times, if someone or some corporations gave a million dollars to a political candidate, the donation was scandalous news – a bribe!Ahhh, I miss those innocent days when ethical outrage could erupt over a mere million. These days, a high-dollar campaign would indignantly return such a paltry check to the donor, demanding that a couple of zeroes be added. Welcome to our glorious age of billion-dollar bribery. But a lot of people get lost in the illions, thinking that the “B” number is just an inflated “M.” So perhaps they assume the level of corruption hasn't gotten that much worse. Uh… wrong! To clarify, think of those Ms and Bs not as dollars, but time – specifically seconds on the clock. A million seconds, is 11 days. But a billion seconds? That's 32 years! And that's a whopping difference in political punch. Aside from letting the insanely-rich buy particular government favors, billionaire bribery also allows that exclusive class to prevent policies that people actually want from getting on the public agenda. One glaring example is the overwhelming grassroots demand by bipartisan majorities to STOP! the ever-rising deluge of corrupt political cash that's drowning American democracy. Congress can do this with two basic reforms. But both political parties have their heads stuck in money bags, so there is zero action by our “representatives” to do what America desperately needs. We the People have to be the cattle prod to move the system. Actor and Hollywood stuntman Erik “All Day” Audé joins The Connect for one of the most intense stories ever told on the channel. In 2002, Erik was arrested in Pakistan after unknowingly being used as a drug mule and accused of attempting to smuggle narcotics through the airport. What followed was a nightmare: a death sentence, years inside one of Pakistan's most dangerous maximum-security prisons, brutal conditions, riots, violence, corruption, and the constant fear that he would be the next prisoner executed. Erik breaks down how he was deceived, what life on death row was really like, how he survived the prison system, and how he eventually fought his way back to freedom after proving his innocence. He also talks about his career as a stuntman, the importance of safety on film sets, and the lessons he learned from surviving the unimaginable. This is a story about betrayal, survival, faith, justice, and what it takes to keep fighting when the entire system is against you. Go Support Erik! The Corrections union insists corrupt staffers are few and far between, and some are even forced to go down the wrong path. 14 staff from Mt Eden and Auckland South Corrections facilities have been arrested. A dozen are charged with accepting bribes, and others with conspiring to supply a Class A drug —namely methamphetamine— to prisoners. Corrections Association President Floyd du Plessis told Mike Hosking it's not the norm, but in the past, some staff have been coerced by people who monitor their behaviour and learn about their personal lives. He says in the past, staff have even had people turn up at their house and intimidate them, and have succumbed to that pressure. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this episode from our archives, we tell a true story of corruption, evil, and avarice... A powerful, unscrupulous man whose two greatest vices are greed and lust. He's close to his family...perhaps too close (particularly his daughter). He has many children by different women, but the three he loves most are two sons and a daughter...a beautiful blond-haired daughter. He holds a position of great power, although the machinations he employed to get it are mired in scandal. Bribery was most certainly involved—and perhaps even blackmail. He is resented by those around him who feel he doesn't deserve his position. Hated by those who see him abusing his power, profiting off his office, and making a mockery of the very institution he rules over. He has placed his children in positions of power and authority within his sphere, and he is positioning them to take over the reins of his power when he is gone, dreaming of turning his elected seat into a family dynasty. If you think you know who I'm talking about, you're probably wrong. Pope Alexander VI, birth name Rodrigo Borgia, is the subject of our latest episode. Tune in to hear all about the "Evil Pope," his corrupt and rapacious family, and all the ways they are so uncannily like another powerful family we know too well. Also, we'll also discuss the places in Rome where Borgia family lived, worked, and played so you can follow along in the footsteps of what Mario Puzo called the "original crime family." ***The Bittersweet Life podcast has been on the air for an impressive 10+ years! Bribery of a lawmaker used to be a straightforward retail transaction between the special interest briber and a specific bribee. But the Silicon Valley billionaires now invading rural America with hundreds of their exploitative AI data centers are out to buy state lawmakers in bulk.Instead of slipping cash-filled envelopes to individual politicos, tech giants like Amazon, Meta, and OpenAI, are putting up hundreds of millions of dollars in this spring's midterm elections to pay for the campaigns of candidates who pledge to back their intrusive, water-sucking, energy-wasting, AI schemes. For example, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has two super-PACs doling out $65 million to state and local politicians who will oppose any regulation of sprawling data centers he wants to impose on rural Texas and Illinois. Why such a barrage of corporate money in local legislative races? Because the countryside is aflame with fury that arrogant, avaricious AI profiteers think they're entitled to walk over local communities – so these locals are demanding that their legislators regulate or even ban AI data centers.Unable (or unwilling) to win political support honestly, the corporate giants intend to overpower the democratic will of the people by effectively bribing submissive legislators with campaign cash – or by funding opponents for lawmakers who refuse to be bought.Of course, bribers and bribees alike will piously pretend that the corporate ruse of buying government policy by buying legislative seats is technically not a bribe. But hello – rigging the system so billionaire donors can crush local democracy is not a “technicality.” If it looks, smells, and has the impact of a bribe… it is one.Do something!* To follow fights around the country and learn more about AI data centers, subscriber to Data Center Watch Briefing: datacenterwatch.substack.com* MediaJustice has developed a toolkit to understand and fight data centers, and were key in forcing a major setback to a planned data center in West Texas.Jim Hightower's Lowdown is a reader-supported publication. Should a sitting federal judge affiliated with Trump be impeached and removed for his role in allowing a corrupt Trump official to join the Administration? Those are some of the questions being asked today based on new reporting from MS-NOW that then senior DOJ Official Emil Bove (now Judge Bove) was handed an internal FBI and DOJ memo that disclosed that Border Czar Tom Homan was caught in a $50,000 bribe undercover sting operation, and then did nothing about it, allowing Trump to grant Homan security clearance. Michael Popok takes a hard look at Bove's actions and what should happen next, as the Trump Administration embarks on yet another scandal cover up.
