It is time for a Thursday edition of Glenn Clark Radio, lots to do on the program as we look back at yet another Orioles 6-3 loss to the Marlins down in Miami, and look ahead as they try to avoid the sweep to this afternoon with Corbin Burnes on the mound. Lamar Jackson was back on the practice briefly yesterday as well, so we'll provide some updates from Ravens Training Camp as they come as well with the team off today. But we will get things started by venturing out to Cleveland to check in with former MLB Catcher and now Guardians Analyst, Chris Gimenez, to talk MLB trade deadline and why he would do an Tarik Skubal for Jackson Holliday deal if he was Baltimore. Then, we'll switch things up a bit as Griffin and Glenn play a little of the new College Football 25 game. At 11:30am, we will head out to Bowie to catch up with Baysox RP Bradley Brehmer, to talk about his recent promotion, see how his season is going and more. Plus, Griffin will help preview UFC 304 with Fighting Words…
An Alaska woman, Denali Dakota Skye Brehmer, 23, has been sentenced to 99 years in prison for her role in the murder of her "best friend," Cynthia "CeeCee" Hoffman, 19, after falling victim to a catfishing scheme. The sentencing was handed down in an Alaska court following a disturbing revelation that Brehmer had been promised $9 million by a man posing online as a millionaire, 25-year-old Darin Schilmiller, to carry out the killing and record it. Brehmer admitted her part in the murder, accepting a deal from prosecutors that included pleading guilty to a first-degree murder charge in exchange for several other charges being dropped. Brehmer, who was 18 at the time of the murder, recruited other teenagers to help bind, sexually assault, and fatally shoot Hoffman near Thunderbird Falls in Chugiak, Alaska, in June 2019. Hoffman's body was discovered two days later on the banks of the Eklutna River, bound with duct tape and with a gunshot wound to the back of her head. Schilmiller, posing online as "Tyler," orchestrated the murder plot, promising Brehmer and her group $9 million for their involvement. Both Schilmiller and Brehmer pleaded guilty to murder and related child pornography charges in federal court. Schilmiller was previously sentenced to 99 years in prison. Judge Andrew Peterson, while acknowledging Brehmer's youth, emphasized that she knew the gravity of her actions, stating, "This was not a youthful indiscretion." He described viewing video evidence of Hoffman's final moments as one of the most difficult experiences in his position. Brehmer pleaded guilty to one count of murder in the first degree, leading to her maximum sentence of 99 years with no possibility of suspension. Prosecutor Patrick McKay Jr. emphasized the severity of Brehmer's actions, asserting that the murder-for-hire plot forever altered the lives of those involved. According to court documents, Brehmer didn't pull the trigger but was one of two people present when it happened. Defense Attorney Emily Cooper asked for an 80-year sentence with 20 years suspended. When it was Brehmer's turn to address the court, she apologized to Hoffman's family, saying she had caused their pain and took responsibility for Hoffman's death. Brehmer also said she's changed during the four and a half years she has been in prison and continues working on her growth and maturity. The case also involves other defendants, including Kayden McIntosh, who allegedly confessed to being the actual gunman, and Caleb Leyland, who pleaded guilty to murder for lending his car in exchange for money. Their trials and sentencing are pending. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In a tragic case that shocked the nation, Denali Brehmer, a 24-year-old woman from Alaska, has been sentenced to 99 years in prison for her role in the murder of her 19-year-old friend Cynthia Hoffman back in 2019. The sentencing marks the culmination of a disturbing catfishing scheme that led to the untimely death of Hoffman, who was described by her father as having developmental disabilities and who considered Brehmer to be her closest companion. The chilling events unfolded when Hoffman went missing during a hike at Thunderbird Falls, Alaska, accompanied by Brehmer and another friend. Two days later, her lifeless body was discovered along the banks of a river, bound with duct tape and fatally shot in the back of the head. The investigation into Hoffman's murder revealed a harrowing web of deceit orchestrated by a man named Darin Schilmiller, based in Indiana, who had allegedly catfished Hoffman under the guise of a wealthy benefactor named "Tyler." Schilmiller offered Brehmer a staggering $9 million to carry out the murder and provide him with photos and videos of the crime. Brehmer, along with another friend, Kayden McIntosh, who was 18 at the time, allegedly drove Hoffman to the remote location where McIntosh shot her after she was duct-taped and posed for disturbing photographs. While Brehmer did not physically pull the trigger, prosecutors argued that her active participation in the planning and execution of the crime made her equally culpable for Hoffman's death. Patrick McKay, the prosecutor handling the case, emphasized Brehmer's integral role in the murder, stating, "She may not have pulled the trigger, but this never would have happened if it weren't for Denali Brehmer." McIntosh, who faces murder charges, is still awaiting trial, while another individual connected to the case, Caleb Leyland, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and awaits sentencing. Additionally, two other teens involved in the incident were prosecuted in juvenile court for their alleged roles. Brehmer's sentencing to 99 years in prison was met with somber reflection from Timothy Hoffman, Cynthia's father, who lamented the loss of his daughter and the betrayal by someone she considered a friend. "My daughter just wanted friends, and now I have to bury her," Hoffman expressed during a court appearance in 2019. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of online manipulation and the devastating consequences that can arise from sinister schemes, leaving a community grappling with grief and seeking justice for a life tragically cut short. Cynthia Hoffman I don't usually do an episode about a case until the case either works through the legal system or it seems unsolvable. I could not ignore this sickening crime, though. Is it because it's actually funny, or because Maddy and I act like we're SNL comedians at all times? Who's to say. What i can tell you is that this episode leaves no stone unturned. We talk about former ex lovers, getting cheated on (tehe), being different than other girls, moving a lot, living through the transitions of your 20's, snapchat messaging being the new HOTTEST form of communication (literally so sexy), and more. Dan Bernstein and Laurence Holmes opened their show by remembering the wonderful life and legacy of longtime WXRT radio personality Lin Brehmer, who died Sunday at age 68. Last July, Brehmer took a leave of absence from his midday program. He had lived with prostate cancer for several years, but the cancer had spread. Bernstein then explained why he's done with slow running backs both on the Bears' roster and in the NFL. Later, Bernstein and Holmes made of fun of the Cowboys, who lost 19-12 in laughable fashion to the 49ers on Sunday in the NFL divisional round.
Dan Bernstein and Laurence Holmes were joined by Score football analyst Anthony Herron to share his takeaways from the NFL divisional round. This Week in Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence (AI) Podcast
Today we're excited to kick off our coverage of the 2022 NeurIPS conference with Johann Brehmer, a research scientist at Qualcomm AI Research in Amsterdam. We begin our conversation discussing some of the broader problems that causality will help us solve, before turning our focus to Johann's paper Weakly supervised causal representation learning, which seeks to prove that high-level causal representations are identifiable in weakly supervised settings. We also discuss a few other papers that the team at Qualcomm presented, including neural topological ordering for computation graphs, as well as some of the demos they showcased, which we'll link to on the show notes page. The complete show notes for this episode can be found at twimlai.com/go/605.

On this episode of the Film School'd Podcast, Eric sits down with author, Nat Brehmer, to discuss his book, Puppet Master Complete: A Franchise History. This book is a comprehensive history of the most successful straight-to-video horror franchise of all time: Puppet Master. It provides an in-depth exploration of all 14 films to date--including a made-for-TV crossover and a theatrical reboot--and the action figures, comics, and other merchandise that have helped to keep the brand alive for the past 30 years. Puppet Master was the first film for independent producer extraordinaire Charles Band's Full Moon Entertainment, launching a franchise and a micro-budget studio that have both continued to this day. What led to the film's success? How did a little movie about killer puppets, designed to cater to the then-booming video market, wind up surviving video stores themselves? How did a series that had never even had a theatrical entry wind up with an unusually successful toy series? All of these questions are answered within these pages. Featuring new interviews with some of the biggest creative minds behind the franchise, as well as dozens of behind-the-scenes photos, this book is the ultimate guide to horror's most murderous marionettes.Connect with Nat Brehmer:https://twitter.com/NatBrehmer
