The Rickey Smiley Morning Show delivered a mix of entertainment, nostalgia, and major headlines as the crew discussed the tragic news that NFL star Calais Campbell’s brother, Ciarre Campbell, has been charged in connection with the death of their mother, Nateal Campbell, in Atlanta. Authorities say the case remains under investigation, while the Campbell family has asked for privacy as they grieve. The show also highlighted exciting music news ahead of the ESSENCE Festival, where Missy Elliott is set to lead a special tribute celebrating the life and legacy of Aaliyah. The tribute coincides with the 30th anniversary of Aaliyah’s groundbreaking album One in a Million, a project that helped redefine modern R&B through her collaborations with Missy Elliott and Timbaland. Live from the BET Awards, Gary With Da Tea caught up with B2K, who reflected on 25 years in the music industry and revealed plans for their upcoming album Eclipse along with a new single, “Mileage,” marking the group’s first new music in more than two decades. The morning also featured an in-depth conversation with R&B icon Keith Sweat, who discussed his legacy as a pioneer of New Jack Swing, the enduring appeal of classic love songs, and his upcoming performance on the One Voyage Cruise. Keith shared insights about working with Teddy Riley, his continued passion for creating music, and why love remains the driving force behind his career nearly four decades after his debut. NFL star Russell Wilson is hanging up his cleats and heading to CBS. The AP's Jennifer King reports.
What happens when you reach the summit of everything you were told to want, only to find the view strangely empty? For Ricky Williams, that moment arrived in an NFL locker room, at the height of a career most people spend their lives chasing. He had the fame, the success, the money. And sitting there one ordinary day, a single question surfaced that he could not shake: is this really it? In this thoughtful and disarmingly honest conversation, Heisman Trophy winner and former professional footballer Ricky Williams joins Catherine to trace the journey that began the moment he walked away from the game. Two months after that question landed, he retired and started travelling the world, with no plan beyond a quiet certainty that there had to be more. What he found was not another title, but a calling. Today he is a professional astrologer, teacher and healer, and co-founder of Lila Labs. This episode is for anyone who has ever achieved what they were sure would make them happy and felt something still missing. For anyone who has run faster, worked harder and climbed higher, only to sense a gap between how their life looks on the outside and how it feels on the inside. A Map, Not a Prophecy Ricky is quick to dismantle the idea that astrology is about predicting the future. For him it is something far more practical: a GPS, a navigation system for the moments when we feel lost and cannot work out where we are going. A birth chart, he explains, is not a script that dictates what will happen on a given date. It is closer to epigenetics, a map of potentials that lie dormant until our environment brings them to life. His approach is refreshingly human. He does not call what he does readings; he calls them conversations. He begins not with the chart but with what the person in front of him is actually saying, then holds up a mirror so they can see themselves a little more clearly. The chart, in his words, is a growth document. We never outgrow it, because it describes a trajectory rather than a fixed identity. Made Of, Made For Much of the conversation explores the quiet ache so many high achievers know well: looking successful while feeling disconnected within. Ricky suggests the first step to closing that gap is simple honesty, admitting that something feels off. From there, the chart can reveal which parts of us are struggling to find expression. His most useful idea may be the strongest planet. Rather than fixating on sun signs, he looks first at the planet carrying the most weight in a chart, because it points to what we have to offer the world. For Ricky, that planet is the moon. Once he recognised that his gift was his sensitivity, his caring and his nurturing, he says his life became immeasurably easier. As he puts it, what we are made of has a great deal to do with what we are made for. The Questions That Open Doors Ricky shares two deceptively simple questions he returns to as daily tools. The first is, what else is possible that I have not yet considered? The second is, how does it get any better than this? Both work the same way, by quietening the part of us that braces for the worst and activating curiosity instead. Curiosity, he notes, tunes us into possibilities we would otherwise walk straight past, whether life is going well or falling apart. Key Takeaway Ricky does not believe people are broken. He believes we are all in a developmental process, which means there is always a developmental way forward. Self-knowledge, in his view, is the foundation of that growth. The more clearly we can see what we are made of, the easier it becomes to find ourselves, and once we find ourselves, it becomes far easier to be ourselves. Watch the full conversation on YouTube. Mark Pattison played in the NFL, made the University of Washington Hall of Fame What if the most accomplished people in your life aren't chasing something, they're running from something, and they've just gotten really good at calling it ambition? EPISODE DESCRIPTION Mark Pattison played in the NFL, made the University of Washington Hall of Fame, took Sports Illustrated from #17 to #1 over twelve years (passing ESPN), and became the first former NFL player to climb the Seven Summits. The documentary won an Emmy. His book, Finding Your Summit, debuted at #1 on Amazon. . So Dov asked him the question almost nobody asks high performers: when you finally hit #1, how long did the feeling actually last? The honest answer surprised even him. In this conversation, Mark gets candid about what the keynote version skips. The two years after football, when he "went off a cliff" with no skills and no identity. What failure feels like at 60-something. His father, who sacrificed everything but never once hugged him or said "I love you," and the chain Mark broke with his own daughters. The divorce, after 24 years, he now calls the best thing that ever happened to him. The day on top of Everest when, snow blind, out of oxygen, 35 pounds lighter, and about to step over his dead tentmate on the way down, he discovered what actually matters when ten toes are on the edge of life. Dov pushes back on the things Mark says in other interviews. Do you really love the process, or are you scared of stopping? Was the climbing healing the grief, or outrunning it? After 295 interviews with elite performers, who finally admitted off mic that they don't know what they're chasing? If you're between summits right now, between titles, after the win, in the reset, this episode is for you. Guest: Mark Pattison, https://MarkPattisonNFL.com Social: @markpattisonnfl. After debating on taking his issue with Mesalam to the internet, he settled on doing it. He explained that if it were him in the wrong, his name would be plastered everywhere, without a doubt.

On Wednesday Apr 22 we remember the ultimate sacrifice of Army Ranger Pat Tillman who was killed during combat operations in Afghanistan. A unique Ranger in that he left a pro football career with The NFL's Arizona Cardinals to join the Army shortly after 9/11, along with his brother. On the evening of April 22, 2004, Pat's unit was ambushed as it traveled through the rugged, canyon terrain of eastern Afghanistan. His heroic efforts to provide cover for fellow soldiers led to his tragic death. Today we're not only honoring his memory but also hearing how his incredible legacy lives on through the Pat Tillman Foundation. We're joined by Tillman Foundation CEO Dr. Katherine Steele, and scholar recipient, Army veteran Maj. Bernard Toney Jr. Steele shares unique memories of Pat and how the Tillman Foundation grew from donations to his alma mater Arizona State University, to helping high caliber veteran students complete college and become the leaders of tomorrow. Army veteran Bernard Toney Jr. shares how he went from the Special Forces community (serving in the same area as Tillman, just 4 months after his death) to serving in The White House. And, how he hopes to make an impact in Public Health and improve the lives of Americans from all socio-economic backgrounds. The Saints signing of Travis E'tienne reminded us of the wealth of quality NFL players, both past and present, from our home state of Louisiana. It also got us thinking how many stars and NFL Hall of Famers, including many from New Orleans, reached their heights for other teams. This begged the question: What players from Louisiana could have most helped the Saints if they had played for us instead of elsewhere? We each picked one offensive and one defensive player from the past who we thought answered this question - with ONE CAVEAT - the player you pick would replace whoever the Saints had starting at that position at that time/during the years the selected player was in the league. So, obviously Peyton Manning stands out, BUT picking him in this exercise means no Brees Era for the years that Peyton played. Would any of us DARE go there??? We also do the same exercise with current players. Definitely a fun/state-prideful/though-provoking episode. TUNE IN!
