You know the name and the family but you've never heard Marlon Wayans like this. In a deeply personal and hilarious conversation, he opens up about grieving his parents, parenting a trans son, and how both experiences brought him to a place of radical love and acceptance. He spills on Scary Movie 6, his chilling new horror film HIM, and what it's really like being the youngest Wayans. Plus: a full-blown roast of his brothers, a gift exchange, and a wild round of One's Gotta Go. Buckle up. Jason Fraley celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Wayans Brothers' hilarious spoof “Scary Movie,” which opened in July 2000, while this October will mark the 25th anniversary of the chilling drama "Requiem for a Dream." He discussed both movies with Marlon Wayans back in 2017 when he called in to promote his Netflix original comedy “Naked” and his NBC sitcom “Marlon.” (Theme Music: Scott Buckley's "Clarion")
Another year, another exorcism movie, it seems like this is the genre that just has such a tough time putting together an entertaining film, but maybe with heavyweights like Al Pacino and Dan Stevens, it'll be different! | The Ritual | Two priests -- one questioning his faith and one reckoning with a troubled past -- must put aside their differences to perform a difficult and dangerous exorcism on a possessed woman.
It's not quite "The Exorcist" and it's not quite "And Justice for All"... but it's kind of both of them. Join Eric & Serling in the jury box as they pass sentence on this early aughts offering.Send us a text
Wow! This movie was bad. Has it been 28 years since the original I Know What You Did Last Summer? Well, the movie I thought was going to be the hit of the summer turns out to be a giant stinker filler with unlikable characters, dumb dialogue (even for slashers) and dumber situations. The whole Summer is a mess of a movie and although I hate talking bad about movies, it's impossible with this one.If you're not doing so already, please like and follow Classic American Movies on Instagram and Facebook. I do free movie giveaways, mini movie reviews and more! Also, I decided to dabble in making my own slasher film entitled “Bishop's Day”. Check out the Instagram page for updates.

In this episode, Brian thought it would be fun to hike out into the wilderness for some summer slasher action and picked "The Prey" from 1983. Slashering was slightly highlighted in this budget flick but not as much as all the crazy critters thrown in to pad the run time. Get ready for a trip down memory lane that's funnier than it has any right to be! In this episode, we're diving deep into the absolute comedic chaos that is Scary Movie (2000). We'll be breaking down what made this movie such a massive hit, why its humour still largely holds up (with a few cringe-worthy exceptions, of course!), and how it perfectly reflects the era it was made in.Join us as we revisit the iconic characters, the unforgettable spoofs, and the sheer audacity of a film that dared to be so ridiculously funny. After 18 long years Danny Boyle, Alex Garland, and Cillian Murphy are taking us back to the UK and the plight of the infected with 28 Years Later. But before we can catch up with the infected after a few decades, let's go back to where it all began with the original! | 28 Days Later | A group of misguided animal rights activists free a caged chimp infected with the "Rage" virus from a medical research lab. When London bike courier Jim (Cillian Murphy) wakes up from a coma a month after, he finds his city all but deserted. On the run from the zombie-like victims of the Rage, Jim stumbles upon a group of survivors, including Selena (Naomie Harris) and cab driver Frank (Brendan Gleeson), and joins them on a perilous journey to what he hopes will be safety.
After 18 long years Danny Boyle, Alex Garland, and Cillian Murphy are taking us back to the UK and the plight of the infected with 28 Years Later. Reaction thus far has been divided, but what do you think? | 28 Years Later | It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped from a biological weapons laboratory. Still living in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amid the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of them decides to venture into the dark heart of the mainland, he soon discovers a mutation that has spread to not only the infected, but other survivors as well.

What if the greatest stories of our lives are the ones we never meant to write? On today's episode, we welcome Steven Bernstein, a man whose journey through the world of cinema has been anything but predictable. A writer at heart, a cinematographer by accident, and a director by destiny, his career is a living testament to the art of surrendering to the unknown. From his early days at the BBC to the sets of Hollywood blockbusters, his story unfolds like an unplanned masterpiece—one that ultimately brought him full circle, back to the thing he always loved: writing. In this profound conversation, Steven Bernstein recounts his journey from philosophy student to award-winning cinematographer, where his love of storytelling found an unexpected home behind the lens. He speaks of the curious ways life moves us, sometimes against our best-laid plans. “You tend to go with those things that are providing you income,” he muses, reflecting on how a passion for writing gave way to cinematography, leading him to films like Monster, Like Water for Chocolate, and Scary Movie 2. Yet, even as he shaped light and shadow for some of cinema's most striking images, the writer within him never faded. There is an undeniable poetry in the way Bernstein describes his work. He doesn't just shoot a film; he composes it, layering meaning through framing, movement, and light. Every choice—a dolly push, a backlight, an asymmetrical composition—whispers something to the audience. It's a language beyond words, one that he speaks fluently. “Everything to do with film is a language,” he explains. “And like any language, it's made up of two parts: that which we present and that which we mean.”His journey back to writing was not an easy one. After years of crafting imagery for others, he took a leap into directing his own films, starting with Decoding Annie Parker. It was a lesson in risk and resilience. At one point, he spent five years in poverty, refusing to return to the safety of cinematography. “If you hold out for the dream, maybe you achieve it,” he says. It is a stark reminder that the artist's path is often one of sacrifice, but those who persist find themselves richer in ways beyond money.Yet, Bernstein also understands the tension between art and commerce. Filmmaking is an expensive endeavor, and investors want guarantees. He describes the struggle of balancing creative vision with financial expectations, a dance between inspiration and limitation. And yet, some of the greatest filmmakers—Terry Malick, the Coen Brothers, Charlie Kaufman—have defied convention, proving that the most resonant stories often break the rules. The conversation moves to the nature of collaboration, the unspoken alchemy that happens on a film set when everyone is in sync. He recalls moments from Monster, where the crew, sensing the gravity of a scene, chose to remain completely silent, whispering only when necessary. It was an unspoken agreement, an offering to the art being created. “It was one of the most magical moments I remember in any film I've ever worked on,” he recalls. It is a glimpse into the rare, sacred spaces where true storytelling happens—not in the scripts, but in the spaces between them.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.

This week Jef decided enough was enough so he picked a good movie for a change of scenery. What "good" movie do you ask? One right in Jef's sweet spot, none other than 1990's "MISERY"! Josh and Brian were caught off guard by this "good" movie pick thrown into the mix. They were not quite sure if they were bummed or excited to watch James Caan stink up a bed for 2 hours, but the one thing they did know is this would not be a difficult film to watch this week and talk about. Sure they may have had their reasons for the lackluster reception to Jef's pick, but they knew in their hearts this would be a nice break from the dog shit they usually watch...and LOVE. Plus they knew the listener's would probably hoist Jef upon their shoulders and hail him as their saviour....at least for this week.
It's been 11 years since the last “Final Destination” movie, which means Death took a lengthy break from wreaking havoc on people in the most sadistic of ways. But a new installment has arrived, and it's the family edition! Tune in to hear us break down “Final Destination: Bloodlines” — from that epic opening disaster, to the new layer it added to this existing formula, and all the misdirects that kept us on our toes.
In this episode it is Brian's week to choose a movie and he decides to choose one that has been haunting him for some time, even though he has never seen it! Something caught his eye and sat in the back of his head until this week when he finally made Jef and Josh watch the 1981 zombie invasion film "Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror"! At first glance it seemed to be just another run of the mill Italian zombie flick with slow ass walking dead, cheap zombie makeups and a plot that is buried deeper than most of the zombies in the film, but the casting of a single man sets this movie apart from almost all other italian zombie movies. You gotta watch it!
Comedian Greg Warren joins Adam in studio to talk about his new YouTube special THE CHAMP and Adam's uncanny ability to riff endlessly on just about anything. The two dive into the absurdities of everyday life, from coffee stirrers and peanut butter to Greg's former life as a Jif salesman. They also debate whether BBQ is better on the road or at home, and take a nostalgic turn with deep dives into Deacon Jones commercials, The A-Team, Run Joe Run, and Renegade—all of which, they agree, owe a creative debt to The Fugitive. Greg also shares a surprising story about how Lorenzo Lamas played a small but pivotal role in his decision to pursue comedy full time.Jason “Mayhem” Miller later joins the show to break down the day's headlines, including the surprising fact that no city in California made the list of the top 250 places to live in the U.S. They also cover Mayor Karen Bass signing executive orders to keep film production in Los Angeles, along with the controversy surrounding the lack of digital communications from her office during the 2025 wildfires.Legendary filmmaker David Zucker rounds out the episode with a look back at his groundbreaking career in comedy, from Kentucky Fried Movie and Airplane! to The Naked Gun and Scary Movie 3 & 4. David talks about working with Val Kilmer, reflects on being pushed out of the upcoming Naked Gun reboot, and recounts how close his house came to being evacuated during recent fires. He also previews his upcoming Masterclass launching in July on Mastercrash.com and discusses his appearance in the new Chassy Media documentary When We Went MAD, a tribute to MAD Magazine, available June 24 and currently up for preorder on Apple and Fandango.David and Adam close out the conversation with a surprising discussion about the sad life of Benny Hill and compare notes on their very different childhoods—David's in Milwaukee and Adam's as the class clown in North Hollywood.
