Hey guys, welcome back to Crafting Fitness! Today I'm honored to be speaking with my colleague Michael Bann. He has been coaching for the past 15 years and has work with thousands of people throughout that time. In this episode, I wanted to pick his brain on his coaching philosophy and how he's changed his mind on movement and coaching movement over the years. The areas we covered were the following: “The last coach you'll ever need” How his perspective on movement and movement asymmetries have evolved over the years Saying “no” more often and how he teaches this to his clients Learning to create space for clients to become more aware of themselves allowing them to upgrade their own understanding Why coaching is an investment in yourself And why a coaches job is to call people up and make them better Below you can find the links to the books he mentions in the podcast along with how you can get ahold of him if you are interested in working with 1:1 Books: When the Body Says No: Exploring the Stress-Disease Connection The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma Sensitive Nervous System The Divided Mind Contacting Michael: Email - michaelbann@crafted.coach IG - @coach_michael_bann If you enjoy this episode, please like and share it with others as it helps us build our reach and be able share more great content with the public.

This week on The MiFit Podcast I chat with Crafted Coach, Michael Bann. Michael started his career holding multiple positions in the strength and conditioning industry such as the Head Strength Coach for a law enforcement academy.  While studying exercise science at Northern Arizona University, Bann was a lead instructor for undergraduate Strength and Conditioning courses. He eventually transferred to Arizona State University to study kinesiology in their top 10 nationally ranked program. While attending ASU, he became the only undergraduate instructor for anatomy and physiology cadaver labs. Michael has an unwavering passion for continually diving deeper and deeper into the most complicated topics that pertain to fitness, ranging from functional anatomy to functional medicine. Because of this drive for deeper understanding, he has traveled extensively to increase his education beyond that which academia teaches as the “truth”. The education he has taken on top of his academic studies range from courses like Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN), Postural Restoration Institute (PRI), Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), Select Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), Functional Movement Screen (FMS), and Certified Functional Strength Coach (CFSC) to name a few. Topics-“Sleep as much as you can without getting divorced or fired.”-“The most successful people in the gym, and outside of the gym for that matter, are the ones who feel most comfortable saying no.”-“Wanting is not good enough. You must need it.”-“Great coaching is about helping your clients create awareness around what their values are so they can begin to align with them.”-Lab work and how it pertains to fitness performance -What is means to become a Samauri CoachIf you enjoyed this conversation please be sure to leave a rating, review, and refer it to a friend. Your 5 star feedback helps the show grow tremendously and helps to bring on more amazing guests like Michael. Thanks for your continued support! Enjoy the show

I thought I should take this opportunity in SESSION 100 to highlight the best of the best of the last 99 episodes and share some of my experiences in making this podcast for you all. To be honest, the show is still evolving, I’m still evolving and the direction of the show is changing slightly. Since I don’t make my living through being a podcast host, producer and promoter, I have fallen short on some organization aspects that are needed to make a podcast explode. I lose my direction many times when I am chatting on air… in the next 100 episodes, I plan on making the show a 2.0 version for y'all. A few of the improvements I’ll personally be making an attempt to change are: Less “ums” More joking Digging deeper into the reason why guests think they do Getting the information from guest that other podcast interviewers left on the table My focus will be better and I’ll become more loose with some of my jokes/topics. I think this show be as entertaining as it is educational. Enjoy the ride and please share the show if you what it to continue for another 100 episodes. SHOW NOTES I met Michael Bann at the Rehab 2 Performance 1st Annual Symposium in 2018. One of the nights following the presentations we all went out to the local brewery for beer and grub because let’s face it… chiropractors love beer and food. Within the time frame of a few beers and food Michael had blown my mind more than twice with a few of his theories. In this podcast session,  we didn’t included everything we spoke about at dinner that night, but we did get through some interesting/fun conversation. Here’s just a few things we covered: The Dynamic Systems Theory Why you should chew your food What your stool can tell you about your gut health How your gut health can affect pain, injury, and performance How quality of motion may not be the only predictor of injury The importance of breathing well Dragonball Z Captain Planet Share this with a friend who’s having gut health issues and please review the show on iTunes! Thank you so much for your time Michael! SHOW NOTES: https://www.p2sportscare.com/microbiome-coach-michael-bann-interview/  Quotes: Pain is too complex to assume the (lack of) a simple (rehab exercise) is the reason why you have pain I always consider what impacts the peripheral nervous system (autonomic)? If we want to improve performance, we have to improve our aerobic system. If we improve mitochondrial support, then we can improve mobility. Website: Contact https://opexfit.com/blog/michael-bann/ IG @coach_michael_bann Email: michaelbann@opexfit.com Coach Michael Bann’s Bio: Clients describe Michael’s dynamic background as “The perfect mix of academic intellectual and drill instructor.” His career has spanned from the U.S. Marine Corps, where he honorably served as an infantryman, to academia, where he taught a collegiate level anatomy and physiology lab as well as dissecting multiple cadavers. His passion for learning serves as the catalyst behind his ongoing quest to understand and master the functionality of the human body. Michael’s expertise in human biomechanics, anatomy & exercise physiology allows him to design programs that are tailored to each of his client’s specific goals – his client base ranges from arthroplasty patients recovering from surgery to accomplished athletes of various sports. Michael’s experience working with some of the most notable physical therapists in the nation has enabled him to develop a unique system that integrates performance enhancement with functional movement and mobility. This unique system allows athletes of all backgrounds to pursue personal records while drastically decreasing or rehabilitating injuries. Seeing a lack of this holistic approach to training in the CrossFit community, Michael has joined OPEX to provide a platform that enables individuals of all backgrounds to become the best that they can be. Whether you are an elite CrossFit athlete preparing for the CrossFit Games, a team sport athlete preparing for the season or weekend warrior rehabilitating an injury/looking to lose weight, Michael will provide the optimal programming necessary for you to reach your personal goals.
