1986 - Kingston, Massachussetts. On a brisk night in October of 1986, 15-year-old Tracy Gilpin left a friend's house party in Rocky Nook to buy a pack of cigarettes at the Cumberland Farms gas station. When she left the parking lot around 11:30pm, it was the last time she would be seen alive. Three weeks later, Tracy's body was found 11 miles away in Myles Standish State Forest. She'd been crushed by a 73 lb boulder. For years, the Gilpin's fought to keep Tracy in the public eye. Her sister, Kerry Gilpin, inspired to help make a difference for other families, even became a state trooper (and eventually the superintendent) for the Massachusetts State Police. As years went on and other cases were solved, they always wondered when their day for justice would come… and 32 years later, in 2018, it did; when police arrested 61-year-old Michael Arthur Hand in North Carolina. This is the murder of Tracy “Ashtray” Gilpin and what we know in the case against Michael Hand, which will most likely be heading to trial sometime this year. Though an arrest has been made, the work is still not done. If you have any information on the murder of Tracy Gilpin, now is the time to come forward. Please contact the Massachusetts State Police investigators at (508) 894-2584 with any information. Tracy Gilpin was a typical teenager in Kingston, Massachusetts. She was walking home from a local party with friends. Her friend's homes came up quicker than Tracy's. She even called the party host for a ride home, however the she didn't come. Tracy went missing and her body was found in the Myles Standish State Park in neighboring Plymouth, Ma. She had a massive head injury and there was signs of sexual assault. Tracy Gilpin was 15 years old and her family was devastated. The case went cold very quickly and it seemed the case would never be solved. In 2018 the police received a tip about a former resident Michael Hand. Mr. Hand was arrested after a quasi-confession, however he attempted to blame this horrendous crime on another infamous Kingston resident, Henry Meinholz. Old fashioned police work appears to have solved this cold case after almost 40 years. The case is scheduled for trial later this year.Fox 25https://cbsloc.al/3J68KOAMasslivehttps://bit.ly/36LUo9f

By actually printing DNA, researchers are now able to create entirely new species. They started with a glow-in-the-dark plant, and now have plans to design microbes that will live in your stomach and actually change the smell of your fecal matter. Even crazier, they may be able to associate particular gas odors with biological states, so you can effectively have an early warning system built inside you. Anthony couldn't be more excited, but Jeff wonders when our Frankenstein microbes will inevitably destroy us all in a flowery-smelling apocalypse. This show is entirely listener supported. Should schools teach philosophy? When literacy and numeracy levels have not improved in 55 years, shouldn’t teachers be concentrating on improving the three Rs rather than introducing a fourth? Peter Worley, co-founder and CEO of The Philosophy Foundation, talks with Michael Hand from the Institute of Education and Stephen Boulter from Oxford Brookes University about whether children can do philosophy, and if schools should teach it, how should it be done?
