The foiled plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer may be just the tip of the iceberg. Under the Trump presidency, right wing extremist groups have multiplied significantly and pose a grave domestic terror threat to the United States. In addition, through his own divisive rhetoric and coded language, the President has tolerated and encouraged the rise of violent, Pro Trump vigilante groups. Have you ever considered that Torah might be alive, seeking relationship with those who truly cherish it? This groundbreaking perspective transforms our understanding of what it means to "toil in Torah."At the heart of Parshas Bechukosai lies a divine promise of abundance – timely rain, bountiful crops, peace, health, and prosperity. The condition? "Im bechukosai telechu" – if you will go in My laws. But what does this really mean? Rashi's revolutionary interpretation reveals it's about being "ameilim baTorah" – toiling in Torah study. Yet why would God want us to suffer or struggle with His wisdom? The answer lies in understanding Torah as a living entity rather than a static text. As evidenced in Sefer Mishlei, where wisdom "cries out in the streets" and "raises her voice in the squares," Torah has a heartbeat, feelings, and desires. Just like any meaningful relationship, Torah seeks those who demonstrate sincere devotion and prioritization. This explains why Yehoshua earned leadership over Moshe's own son – not because of intellectual prowess, but because "he arranged the chairs and smoothed the tablecloths" in the study hall. He served Torah passionately, rising early and staying late, making it feel cherished above all else.True "ameilis baTorah" means courting Torah like a potential life partner – demonstrating that it's the most crucial relationship in your life. When we approach Torah this way – as a living presence rather than information to master – it reciprocates, "falling in love" with us and revealing its most profound wisdom. How might your relationship with Torah change if you treated it not just as a text to study but as a presence to honor, cherish, and prioritize? Start courting Torah today, and watch as it opens its heart to you, revealing treasures beyond imagination.Support the showJoin The Motivation Congregation WhatsApp community for daily motivational Torah content!Elevate your impact by becoming a TMC Emerald Donor! Part Two of a thorough review of Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams picks up with Chapters 12-18. As the author begins to experience life working for Facebook as a new mother, the reality of how that milestone is viewed by her colleagues becomes apparent. More equally chilling and amusing insights about Sheryl and Mark are shared, including her experiences being included in Mark's luxurious travel, his private jet preferences, and the work, or lack thereof, that went into courting various governments. Awkward executive level dynamics and personalities continue to be revealed via Sarah's outsider's perspective as we witness her slowly becoming more jaded with each passing chapter. BONUS: a rant on Andrew Jackson Books/biographies about Andrew Jackson: Life of Andrew Jackson by James PartonThe Passions of Andrew Jackson by Andrew Burstein American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House by Jon MeachamFathers & Children: Andrew Jackson and the Subjugation of the American Indian by Michael Paul Rogin All opinions are personal and not representative of any outside company, person, or agenda. Information shared is cited via published articles, legal documents, press releases, government websites, public videos, news reports, and/or direct quotes and statements, and all may be paraphrased for brevity and presented in layman's terms.Wanna support this independent pod? My newsletter: https://simonowens.substack.com/ Given the tumultuous economic landscape for local news, many outlets are turning to nonprofit models because they offer increased flexibility for generating revenue. But while these outlets have been adept at attracting foundation grants and small donor memberships, they're not doing enough to cultivate relationships with the wealthy members of their own communities, many of whom can write much larger checks than your average reader. At least that's the thesis of Julie Rafferty. She not only has a deep background in consulting with nonprofits, but she also played an instrumental role in co-founding Brookline News, a nonprofit media outlet that operates outside of Boston. In a recent interview, Rafferty walked through how she got wealthy members of her city to fork over $100,000 before the outlet even launched, and she gave some good advice on how other nonprofit newsrooms can identify and reach out to rich people in their own communities.

Jen Psaki breaks down Donald Trump's unprecedented assault on the judicial branch of government, explaining how the administration's defiant attitude toward the court breaks with that of former presidents who were dealt tough rulings in the past. Representative Jamie Raskin joins to discuss the implications of their defiance, and the danger the administration poses to due process under the law. Next, Jen is joined by the chair of the Progressive Caucus in the House, Representative Greg Casar, who was with Bernie Sanders and AOC on their “Fighting Oligarchy” tour. They discuss the massive turnout at these rallies and how hearing from angry voters directly could shake up the party. Jen also reflects on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's handling of the GOP's government funding bill, and the implications for Democrats if they don't find a strategy moving forward. New York Times correspondents Annie Karni and Luke Broadwater later join Jen to talk about their new book “Mad House” and the evolution of Congressional dysfunction, as well their thoughts on what's happening in Democratic leadership. Finally Jen discusses Elon Musk's growing Tesla problem, and the scuttled plan to brief him on U.S. plan in case of war with China.Check out our social pages below:https://twitter.com/InsideWithPsakihttps://www.instagram.com/InsideWithPsaki/https://www.tiktok.com/@insidewithpsakihttps://www.msnbc.com/jen-psakihttps://bsky.app/profile/insidewithpsaki.msnbc.com

Scott Hulet is a legendary writer, editor, and current Creative Director at The Surfer's Journal. He also has a new book titled Flow Violento: A Scott Hulet Omnibus, which is a compilation of more than thirty years of his writing about surfing, fishing, travel, food, music, and more. If you subscribe to my book recommendations email, then you'll already know how much I loved the book– Scott brings to life the cultures, waves, and landscapes of Latin America using his unique blend of insights, humor, and perfectly crafted prose. If you're a fan of travelogues, adventure tales, and cultural immersion, I know you'll enjoy “Flow Violento.” Scott was born and raised in southern California, and he's been writing for longer than he can even remember. Skating and surfing entered his life very early, as did travel to Mexico for surf trips. Through a deep commitment to the craft of writing and surfing, he's been able to build a successful career that combines both. But for all his success, there have also been some speedbumps along the way, including a string of health scares during his fifties that culminated with a very serious stroke. But after a ton of hard work and help from some inspiring medical professionals, Scott was able to make a full recovery– and refocus his efforts on writing, traveling, and surfing. I've been a huge fan of The Surfer's Journal and Scott for many, many years, so I was honored that he took the time to chat with me about his life, work, and the new book. I caught him just a few days before he took off to the Colombian Amazon for a fishing and research trip, and we had a fun chat about reading, writing, surfing, traveling, and more. Some of the topics include: his “hunting and gathering” approach to reading: some of his favorite childhood books; his first foundational surfing and traveling experiences; moving to Hawaii after high school; becoming a professional writer; the importance of approaching new cultures with respect; his health scares and lessons learned; his surprising thoughts on social media; rules for travel; and much more. A big thanks to Scott for the conversation and his decades of important work. And another big thanks to you for listening.
