God's Word talks about the harvest of righteousness – and if you've ever lived in a farming community you'll know that harvest time is a time of huge celebration. So this harvest of righteousness – it's not just empty words, it's a big deal.   The Fruit of Righteousness One of the things that we do in this world – particularly, let me say, in the West – is that we get hooked on junk food. Pretty much, most people need three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some don't get that of course, and others skip meals because they're too busy to eat. And in between meals we like to have little snacks and often the snacks we consume can be our undoing. Instead of healthy snack of a banana or an apple or an orange, we go for the chocolate bar or the doughnut or the packet of chips or something equally unhealthy. Of course, one of those every now and then, no problem but if those are the things that we snack on most of the time, they are going to make us sick and tired, literally. I've done that a few times in my life and each time I have eventually come to my senses and replaced those unhealthy snacks with healthy ones, well, at first it seemed like a real burden to give up the junk food snacks, but within a day or two, here's what happens: 1. What I found is that I rediscover how wonderful fruit tastes: a sweet mandarin, a juicy orange, a crisp apple, a ripe banana. They are fantastic. What a surprise! 2. Within just a few days, I am feeling much healthier: more energy, more alert, a spring in my step. The fruit, as it turns out, is good for us in so many different ways. Last week on the programme we were chatting about reaping the harvest of righteousness and we saw that God's righteousness is two things: it's both bad news and good news. Bad news because He is righteousness and we are not and eventually that brings His wrath crashing down on our heads and good news because He knows that, which is why He sent us Jesus Christ His Son to save us. Now we are going to talk about the bad news and the good news a bit more next week on the programme but right now we are going to look at the fruit, good, healthy, life-giving fruit. As I mentioned just earlier, making the transition from bad eating habits to good eating habits, at the time always seems … well, it feels like we are making a sacrifice, giving up the sweet chocolate bars and the fatty chips. It's never fun making that choice and starting on the journey towards healthy eating. But not only is the fruit really, really nice, it yields fruit in our life. We feel better; we have more energy, right? We know that and it's the same with sin and righteousness. When we are addicted to some sin – we all have one or two sins that we are predisposed to – it seems like such a sacrifice giving them up, it really does, even though they are not good for us; even though they are hurting us. And often times God helps us by sending us through a rough patch; by disappointing us, so that we can learn for ourselves the impact that our sin is having so that we can feel the pain and have the opportunity to let go of the sin and turn back to Him. Have a listen to what the writer of the Letter to the Hebrews in the New Testament has to say about this. Hebrews chapter 12, beginning at verse 5. If you have a Bible come there with me. He writes: And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as children— 'My child, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, or lose heart when you are punished by him; for the Lord disciplines those whom he loves, and he chastises every child whom he accepts.' Endure trials for the sake of discipline. God is treating you as children; for what child is there whom a parent does not discipline? If you do not have that discipline, in which all children share, then you are illegitimate and not his children. Moreover, when we had human parents to discipline us, we respected them. Should we not be even more willing to be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share his holiness. Now, discipline always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed." You know what he is saying? No pain, no gain, right? And in a sense, that's what is going on here. So often, we're travelling through tough times and we don't take the time to read the signs. We squeal in pain, "Oh God, why is this happening to me?" and we don't stop to hear His answer. Often times the reason it's happening because God is at work in our lives and leaving the sin behind is hard, our flesh is addicted to it. It's like a heroin addict leaving the drug behind. It's hard, it hurts. And God lets it happen to us because He loves us; because He knows that the peaceful fruit of righteousness is so worth the effort and the pain. Can we just talk about that fruit for a moment? Can we talk about the harvest; the gain that comes out of the pain? Because it's like the real fruit that I was talking about before – it is fantastic. When we are wallowing around in our sin, well, you know, that affects our lives. Someone who is living constantly in sin of anger is going to have a rotten life, right? Someone who is labouring under the yoke of unforgiveness is going to have a rotten life. Someone who hasn't learned to sacrifice and to love is having unhealthy, tragic relationships. The list of cause and effect goes on! And most times we don't even notice them. We don't stop to think about the sin – the cause – and the effect that it's having on our lives. I use this word "sin" deliberately, as much as it jars with many people because it's what God calls our rebellion. It means literally to "miss the mark; to miss the whole point; to miss out on our share". And that's what we are doing when we are rebelling against God. We are missing out on the goodness, just like when we are stuffing our faces full of unhealthy food, we are missing out on energy and well-being that should be going on in our lives. But when we allow God's discipline – through the difficult and often painful circumstances we are travelling through – be the tool that helps us let go of the sin; the tool that shows us the pain and helps us to the heart decision of letting go and turning back to Him, then here's what's going to happen: just like giving up junk food snacks, it's not going to be a pleasant start. It always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time but the peaceful fruit of righteousness, well, it's kind of like that sense of well-being and vibrancy and energy that we get when we ditch the junk food in favour of the good stuff – the fruit. I just want to encourage you that sometimes the tough patches are God's polishing cloth in our lives. And the sin He's putting His finger on right now is actually ruining our lives. It's robbing you and me of the peaceful fruit of righteousness that He wants us to live in day by day. So we can struggle and squirm and fight God. The problem is, the longer we do that, the longer He will keep us in that uncomfortable place. Or we can go to Him, ask Him to show us what He is doing and let go of that sin quickly. Yes, even though it never seems pleasant at the time, more likely painful and the sooner we get with His plan; the sooner we will be living in the peaceful fruit of righteousness. What do you think?   The Harvest of Righteousness I remember when I was in my last year of High School – quite a few years ago now – I travelled to a country town to teach the clarinet at a music camp during the school holidays. And I had the opportunity to stay for a week on a farm. Now, this was a large property and they farmed many thousands of sheep – thousands of them. It was quite an experience for a young guy because I'm a city boy. I had spent all my time growing up in an industrial city so I had never really thought too much about, well, where things come from – milk, after all, came in bottles, eggs come in cartons, meat comes from the butchers and so on. You don't really think too much about it when you live in the city, so spending this week on the sheep farm was the most amazing experience. We had the opportunity to help dip the sheep, so you had to pick them up and throw them down the shoot so they ended up in a trough full of sheep dip – it was back breaking work. And for a lad who had never really thought too much about where lamb chops came from, other than from the butchers, it was a real eye opener. Farming is hard work. Ever since then I have had the greatest respect for farmers. And not only is it hard work but pretty much they only get their income once or twice a year. And that happens when they take what they have grown - whether that be a crop like wheat or sheep or cattle for slaughter or wool for clothing – when they take what they have grown to market. It happens at harvest time. But of course there are many things that can interrupt the harvest: drought, flood, fire, a plague of locusts, diseases in animals. And even when there is a bumper crop, often as a result of the abundance, the prices the farmer gets at market are going to plummet. So it's a tough life and that week on the sheep farm has given me a deep, abiding respect for farmers and their families. But there is something else, another lasting legacy that this week on the farm, as a young lad, has left with me and that's an appreciation of the tough reality of farming on one hand and the sense of jubilation of a successful harvest on the other. See we city slickers hear this word "harvest" and it really doesn't mean too much to us. It kind of washes by. But harvest time is the culmination of the farmer's work. It's the time of reaping the reward. A successful harvest brings great joy and a sense of accomplishment and relief and safety and provision, not just for the farming families, but in fact, for the whole community. That's what "harvest" means, so when the Bible talks about "harvest" that's the sense of what's going on. And remember back then in the first century, there was no welfare or Government assistance or anything like that. If the harvest failed, people starved and it's still like that in many parts of the world today. Suffice to say, what I am trying to get to here, is the fact that the 'harvest' is a big deal – it's a huge deal. If you live in a rural community, you already know that but it's not something that's necessarily that obvious to us city slickers. So when the Apostle Paul writes to his dear friends in Philippi about this harvest of righteousness, he is saying something big. Philippians chapter 1, beginning at verse 9: And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight to help you to determine what is best, so that in the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and the praise of God. Interesting that he begins his point about this harvest of righteousness with a four letter word "love"! His prayer for his dear friends in Philippi is that their love would overflow more and more because it's in this flood-tide of God's love, which works its way out in our love for one another, that we gain the knowledge and develop the insight to know what God's best is for us. And living out His best isn't always the easiest thing to do, as we have seen over the course of these last few weeks. Living out God's best requires sacrifice and it hurts a lot of times but when our heart is soaked in God's love; when lives are about overflowing more and more with the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ, then in that place, with that humility, with that surrender and sacrifice, we gain the knowledge of God and the insights of God which transform us into His image which help us to live out the righteousness we already have; the right standing we have with Him because of our faith in Jesus who died to pay for our sin and rose again to give us a brand new life; an abundant life; an eternal life. And friends, that is the thing: the love of God at work in us, that produces what? It produces the harvest – big word that – the harvest of righteousness, which comes to us through Jesus and brings glory and praise and honour to God. When Jesus was asked, "What's the most important commandment of all?" He answered Luke chapter 10, verse 27: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbour as yourself. Love is the most important thing of all. As Paul wrote some years on, in Romans chapter 13, verse 10: Love does no wrong to a neighbour; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. We have kind of been conditioned to believe that love is all about romance and feeling good and … well, sure, those are a couple of aspects of love but that's not the sort of love that both of these passages talk about. The original Greek word for "love" here is "agape", which means "unconditional love" – faithful love that never ends and never fails – the sort of love that costs us a lot and often appears to deliver very little at the time. It's that sort of love and it doesn't matter how talented or gifted we are, if we don't have this sort of love, then in God's eyes we are nothing but a noisy gong or a clanging symbol. Gifts and abilities and talents without this sacrificial faithful love, are completely worthless. That's what it says in First Corinthians chapter 13. Now I know in my own life there have been times that have been so trying and testing, when people have been difficult and unhelpful and hurtful – those times and those places never feel good and yet it is in those times and places that the Word of God has done its greatest work in me. I thank God that early on in my walk with Him, He established in me a pattern of regular Bible reading because it's in those difficult periods that God's Word has done His greatest and mightiest works in me. And it's still like that today. Friends, in the most difficult times of our lives we can experience this harvest of righteousness, or as it is written elsewhere in the Book of Hebrews, "the peaceful fruit of righteousness", because as we persist in doing good; in honouring God; in living out the relationship and right standing – that righteousness, purchased for us by Jesus as He took the punishment of our sin on Himself on that cross – as we live that out we discover God Himself. Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God. Matthew chapter 5, verse 8. And that, my friend, is exactly what happens. God draws us ever nearer to Him through the righteousness that He imparted to us through Jesus and the righteousness that He now brings to life in our new lives in Christ. The righteousness that we live out, little by little, He restores us back into His image through the trials of life. That's the harvest – God Himself, and like every harvest, it's a big deal. I mean really!   Where Do You Get It? I hope that as we have been chatting today, it's starting to sink in that it's all about the harvest; it's all about the fruit. God didn't just send Jesus to save us from an eternity separated from Him, He also sent His Son to buy us a new life, here and now. Now I know so many people who believe in Jesus but aren't growing into that new life. I was speaking with someone recently who had been involved in a large survey across a major denomination of God's church and one of the questions that people had been asked was whether, given their involvement in this church, they felt that they were growing spiritually. You know what? Only thirty percent answered "yes" – the rest, seventy percent, answered "no". So here I am, rabbiting on about a new life, the fruit of righteousness, the harvest of righteousness but you have to ask yourself, if that's what God's Word says; if that's what God promises, where do you get it? How do you and I reap the harvest and become part of the thirty percent, rather that the seventy percent who don't? My favourite Psalm, well, it's hard to have just one favourite Psalm, isn't it? But my FAVOURITE Psalm is Psalm number 1. Have a listen with me because it's about growing fruit, Psalm 1, verse 1. If you have a Bible, come there with me: Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path that sinners tread or sit in the seat of scoffers but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams, which yield their fruit in season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper. I love this because it's a piece of wisdom on how to bear fruit. It's a piece of wisdom on how to succeed - not in the world's sense, but in God's sense. It's a piece of wisdom to stop us from withering under the heat and pressures of life. What's the Psalmist saying? Let's get a grip! Keep living out your old life; this life of sin and it ain't going to work out so well. In the second part of the Psalm which we haven't read so far, it says exactly that. But you want to be happy and blessed? Then don't do that old stuff. Don't go and "follow the advice of the wicked or take the path that sinners tread or sit in the seat of scoffers" – don't do that! Instead, delight yourself in the Word of God. Meditate on what God has to say, day and night. And when you do that, you know what it's like? It's like a tree being planted right next to a waterway. In fact, the word that used there for "streams of water" literally means "an irrigation channel" – a stream of water that's deliberately been put there to help the tree to grow good fruit. It's like planting yourself next to one of those. Meditate on what God has to say, day and night and you are going to flourish – you are going to bear fruit; you are not going to wither and die when it gets too hot out there. The Word of God is like clean, living, fresh water – drink that in. Be planted right next to that and you won't be able to help it. You are just going to bear fruit in season. The Apostle Paul reiterates that in his letter to the Colossians in the New Testament. Colossians chapter 1, beginning at verse 9. He says this: For this reason, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God's will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God. Do you see that? Fruit is linked to knowledge: knowing God, knowing His truth, knowing Him deeply. And it only comes through the Word of God, drinking it in; letting the fresh, living water of His Spirit and His Word fill us, so that we grow – not like the majority of Christians who aren't growing – that we grow and bear fruit for God's glory. It only happens when we grow in our knowledge of God. It does not happen when we wander out there in the wilderness; when we are happy to follow the advice of the wicked or take the path the sinner treads or sit in the seat of scoffers. Do you see what an anathema that is to God? Do you see how opposite that is to the knowledge of God? Whenever the Bible talks about knowing God, be it in the Old Testament or the New Testament, whenever it talks about that, it doesn't talk about head knowledge, it talks about knowing God; the fruit is linked to knowing God. The fruit comes from putting our roots deep down in that living water – the Spirit of God and the Word of God – and drinking that in. That's what happens when we grow in our knowledge of God – we bear fruit. Not academic knowledge, not head knowledge, not dry knowledge, not the sort of knowledge that helps you pass an exam – it's a relational knowledge; a deep intimate life knowledge of God that causes us to bear fruit, friend and that's where we get it. Not by working harder, not by trying to fulfil a whole bunch of rules, not by anything else, except developing a dynamic relationship with Jesus and we do that through His Spirit and His Word. That's where we get the fruit. That's where we get the harvest of righteousness. And that's why some people are growing spiritually and bearing fruit and others aren't because some have a deep relationship with Jesus through the Holy Spirit and His Word and others don't. It's pretty simple really. It's not rocket science. And the choice there ... the choice is for each one of us. Friend, so many Christians go to church; they listen to the sermon, they come home and they never think about it, they never open their Bible and they wonder why their lives aren't bearing fruit. Friend, the choice is for each one of us. It's up to me in my life and let me be really clear; it's up to you in your life.

And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.   Penalties come because of sin:   14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:   15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.   16 Unto the woman HE said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.   17 And unto Adam HE said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;   18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;   19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.  

Todaywe begin a new section in Philippians chapter 3. In the previous verses, Paulhas been sharing the great passion of his heart when he said, "That I mayknow Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of Hissufferings." Now, as we come to Philippians 3:12, Paul begins to describehis pursuit of Christ. He writes: "Not as though I had alreadyattained, either were already perfect..." Paul gives us one of themost important secrets of spiritual growth, and it is surprisingly simple. Thesecret is this: never become satisfied with where you are spiritually. Nowthink about who is making this statement. This is not a new convert. This isnot a believer who has only been walking with Christ for a few months. This isthe Apostle Paul. By the time he writes Philippians, Paul has walked withChrist for nearly thirty years. And yet, Paul says: "Not as though Ihad already attained, either were already perfect." The word"perfect" here does not mean sinless perfection. It means complete,finished, mature, or having fully arrived at the goal. Paulis saying, "I have not crossed the finish line yet. God's work in my lifeis not complete." What humility! The very man we would probably considerone of the greatest Christians who ever lived looked at himself and said,"I still have room to grow." One of the surest marks of spiritualmaturity is realizing how much more maturity is needed. The closer we get toJesus, the more clearly we see areas in our lives that need His transforminggrace. Have you ever noticed that when you first clean a window, it lookspretty good? But when the sunlight shines through it, suddenly you noticestreaks and smudges you never saw before.  1John 1:7 says: “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we havefellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses usfrom all sin.”  The closer we walkwith Christ, the brighter His light shines on our hearts. We begin to seeattitudes, motives, habits, and weaknesses that need to change. That does notdiscourage a growing Christian. Instead, it motivates him. Paul had what wemight call a holy dissatisfaction. He was satisfied with Christ, but he was notsatisfied with his own spiritual progress. There is a tremendous differencebetween those two things. Paul had found complete satisfaction in Jesus Christ,but he still longed to know Him more deeply, love Him more fully, and serve Himmore faithfully. Sadly,one of the greatest dangers in the Christian life is spiritual complacency. Thechurch at Laodicea is a perfect example. In Revelation 3:17 they said: "Iam rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing."ButJesus saw them differently. He said they were: "Wretched, miserable, poor,blind, and naked."  They thoughtthey had arrived when in reality they were far from where they needed to be.That danger still exists today.  Sometimeswe compare ourselves with other Christians instead of comparing ourselves withChrist. Paul never compared himself to other believers.He compared himself to Jesus Christ. And when you compare yourself to Jesus,there is always room to grow. Psalm42:1-2 gives us a beautiful picture of holy dissatisfaction: "As thedeer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soulthirsts for God, for the living God." The psalmist was not contentwith yesterday's fellowship. He longed for more of God today. That was Paul'sattitude. That should be our attitude as well. A satisfied Christian is often astagnant Christian. The Christian race is not over until we see Jesus face toface. There are still lessons to learn, victories to win, prayers to pray,people to reach, and ways to become more like Christ. So let us embrace whatPaul embraced—a holy dissatisfaction that keeps us pursuing Christ every day ofour lives.

A mess can be hard to clean up. “The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” - 1 John 1:7 (NKJV)

                  In Luke 23:13-25 Pilate has examined Jesus and says neither He nor Herod found any fault in Jesus.  Yet, who do the people want released, but a murderer named Barabbas.  His name means son of the Father, so the murdering son of the father is released in place of JESUS THE TRUE SON OF THE FATHER. This is a picture of what Jesus has done for us.  We are the ones who deserve death and hell, yet God sent His Son to take our place on the cross. Isn't this a glorious and wonderful truth that we can be forgiven, or have been forgiven if we have trusted in Christ no matter what we have done in the past.  The Father is always willing to forgive, save, and one day give us all that the Son has purchased for us. Jesus was our substitute, He died in our place, the just for the unjust. Thank God today for what He did through Jesus Christ His Son.                 Luke 23:13-25 Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, 14 said to them, "You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. Welcome to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.Our study now moves into Revelation chapter 10. Dr. John G. Mitchell will be speaking on verses 1 thru 10.Dr. Mitchell walks us through these verses describing the extent of the destruction of the future known world of the people on earth, the earth dwellers."The secret things belong to the Lord, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons that we may do them." Deuteronomy 29:29.Here John heard the revealed 7 thunders say something, but God told him not to write what they said, they were to hidden. So no one but God, the 7 thunders and John know what was spoken. Our Bible is the Divinely revealed and inspired Word of God and we can know what God has revealed about Himself, about Jesus Christ His Son and His finished work of salvation. He also made know us what we should believe and how we should live in His Word.Also, in these verses the Apostle John is given a small scroll by an angel and told to eat it. e.g. he is to thoroughly digest what it says and to proclaim it even though it is hard to bear.Let's open our Bible to Revelation 10:1 with our teacher, Dr. Mitchell.

He moved to a place where he could take deep breaths of fresh air and looked over to see Grandpa laughing at him."We're going to need to take care of that." Grandpa held up a handkerchief. "Until then, I have this.""You knew it was going to smell like that and you're still going in there to clean it?" Cole couldn't believe it."Your grandma needs a place to work on her pottery." "You go inside and spend time with her. Gone was all of the mess that had been in the place before. And the smell coming from the shed was one of fresh paint and stain. He saw shiny wood floors and perfect white walls. "It's amazing."Grandpa grinned. "It's really different, isn't it?"Cole dropped to his knees on the clean floor. "This reminds me of something.""Yeah?" Grandpa asked."You know how Jesus loves us even though we're sinners?" Cole asked. "He's willing to step into the dirty, the gross, and make things better. He loves us enough to deal with the smelly stuff, just like you loved Grandma enough to do that. And now…now the shed has been made clean! Some people might have said it'd be best to just burn it down or something, but you made it new."Grandpa squeezed Cole's shoulder. What is the basis of your salvation?Many rely on religion, good works, or trying their best—but none of those can justify a sinner before a holy God. In this powerful episode of Words From The Word, Pastor Roderick Webster shows us that only the blood of Jesus can justify and cleanse from sin.

Who is Jesus? Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" This question still rings out two thousand years later. Who do you say He is?Part 52.23.25

Today I want us to think about our greatest need. Whatwould you think is the greatest need that a human being has today? First, I remindyou that originally, we were not created with this need. When God created Adamand Eve, He created them in innocence! They were created without sin. They werein perfect harmony in their relationship with God and they enjoyed pure and unbrokenworship, fellowship and communion in His presence.  But then something happened that broke that relationshipand fellowship! Romans 5:12-19 tells us that when the first man, Adam, disobeyedGod by eating the forbidden fruit, sin entered the human race along with thepronounced judgement of death. “Therefore, just as through one man sinentered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men,because all sinned” (Romans 5:12). The word death means “separation”. Thissin separated Adam and Eve from God and from their worship and fellowship withHim. They immediately tried to cover their sin, and hid from God, and He had tolook for them (Genesis 3:6-13).  Because we are all of Adam's seed, we are born sinners,separated from God. We are born “children of wrath”, dead in our trespasses andsins. Paul describes this way in Ephesians 2:1-5: “And you He made alive,who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to thecourse of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, thespirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all onceconducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh,..." I never had to teach my children to be mean, to be selfish,or to do wrong. Nor did anyone need to teach me or anyone else to follow thepath of evil in our lives. We are born with the nature of sin that puts us onthis path from our birth! Yes, sin separates us from God! And our only hope is,in someway, to find mercy from God, and His forgiveness for our sin in order toenter back into a relationship with Him.  Thank God, from eternity past, God already had a plan ofredemption that would pay the price for our sin and set us free from the guiltand bondage of it. Again, Romans chapters 1 through 5, go into detail about oursin and how only the blood and death of God's perfect Son, Jesus Christ, wasthe only sacrificial and substitutionary death that could remove this sin fromus and bring us back into a relationship before God as if we had never sinned. Romans5:1-2 assures us of this: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, wehave peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ Yes, our greatest need is forgiveness for our sin that we canonly experience by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work onthe cross (Ephesians 2:1-9). This reconciles us to God bringing His peace into ourhearts and lives and restores us to a relationship with Him. I'm convinced thatthe greatest human emotional experience that I can have, is to know that I amforgiven for all my sin, no longer under its condemnation and guilt and penalty.(Read Luke 18:10-14). But just as I need forgiveness from God for my salvation, Ineed daily forgiveness for my fellowship with the Lord. And, that is what Jesusis teaching us to pray for here in Luke 11:4. When we begin to pray and enter “OurFather's” presence, and experience His holiness, we become acutely aware of ourdaily failures and sins. That is what John is talking about in 1 John 1:7-9: “Butif we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with oneanother, and the blood of Jesus “Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If wesay that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. Ifwe confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and tocleanse us from all unrighteousness.” My friend, that is why forgiveness is still our great needevery day! Barrett was looking forward to hiking some of the trails nearby when the sky suddenly grew dark and rain started pouring down. They all scrambled into the tent and zipped up the door. Barrett sighed as he listened to the rain beat against the canvas sides of their tent. "Why did it have to rain today? We're not going to be able to do any of the stuff we had planned!""Well, we'll just have to make the best of it," said Dad. A while later the rain stopped, and they ventured out of their tent. "My smiley faces are gone!" said Aurora, pointing to the car. "So they are," said Dad. "I haven't seen the car that clean in a long time!" He winked at Barrett. "See, that's one good thing about the rain, right? Now you and Aurora won't have to wash it when you get home."Barrett smiled. "I guess that makes up for being stuck in the tent for an hour."Dad nodded. "It reminds me of a song I sang in church when I was little about Jesus's blood washing away sin. We lived on a dirt road when I was a kid, so our car was always dirty. But whenever it rained, all the dirt got washed away, and I'd think of that song and Jesus washing all my sins away when He died on the cross." Do you realize what a wonderful thing it is that God is willing to forgive you for all the bad things you've done? Jesus willingly took the punishment for your sin and shed His blood on the cross so you could have your sin washed away. Trust in Him, and He will forgive you and make you clean. In 1st Peter 1:17, Dr. Mitchell speaks of God the Father as judge. God is equitable in all His dealings within His family. If necessary, He will discipline the one who is in need of spiritual training in righteousness, that he may share in the holiness of the Lord, without which no one will see the Lord. In verses 18-19, Dr. Mitchell states,"Because of the cost of our redemption we ought to live godly as obedient children of God." Redemption has to do with sin. Christ purchased us out of sin for Himself at the price of His own blood on the cross. 1st Jn.1:7 says, "if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son, keeps on cleansing us from all sin." Helmet of Salvation // Throat Chakra https://yogafaith.org/yogafaith-university/ The Helmet of Salvation is worn on the head as a means to protect the entire face, mouth, eyes, ears, the entire head and the mind, which is vital for the protection of our thoughts, casting down strongholds and arguments contrary to the Lord (2 Cor. 10:3-5), as well as keeping our eargate/eyegate/mouthgate safe from the enemy's attacks. The Helmet of Salvation, as we previously read, protects our thoughts and the words that come from our mouth based on our thoughts and beliefs. This helmet keeps the mind renewed and set on God, as well as our mouth from speaking anything unwholesome. Our mouth is to be used for the building and edifying of Christ and one another. The mouthpiece is for clear communication and expression of our faith and identity in Christ. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words. Proverbs 18:21, AMP The Throat Chakra is located in the center of the neck. It is related to communication and self-expression while corresponding to the thyroid, trachea, throat, mouth as well as the inner man and one's creative identity. The Helmet of Salvation can also be related to the Crown Chakra and our intimate connection and relationship with each part of the Trinity. You want to protect your relationship with God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son, as well as His Holy Spirit. How can we hear from God if we do not take time to open our ears and listen? How will we know what to speak and share with others if we are not asking Him to put words in our mouth, show us the way, or speak into our hearts and minds? Along with the other pieces of the armor, we stand in our faith protected from fiery darts, able to safeguard and communicate our faith with others in a clear and objective manner. Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. Isaiah 55:3 Communication and spiritual protection are the common themes that run throughout the Throat Chakra and the Helmet of Salvation. Just as the Throat Chakra governs self-expression and clear communication, the Helmet of Salvation represents the safeguarding of one's thoughts and beliefs. Both serve to protect and empower one's spiritual journey and promote a sense of divine guidance and purpose. Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? Mark 8:18 Some will never be able to perceive what the Lord is saying and doing; they physically and spiritually cannot hear. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. Psalm 135:16–17 The enemy attacks your throat like no other location. If someone told you as a child to only speak if you're spoken to, or you've learned that you have nothing important to say, perhaps you clam up in front of others, God needs you to start speaking up. I realize that what I'm asking you to do can be extremely uncomfortable, but I would never ask you something that I haven't done or that I don't know intimately—your voice box can build the Kingdom and point to Christ; this is why it gets so attacked. You can also create healing songs, tonal sounds, and vibrations internally or bless a room full of people. For some reason today I could not help but remember Psalm 136 as I was looking at Joshua 8. Every verse in Psalm 136 ends with, “His mercy endures forever”, or as in some translations, “His steadfast love endures forever”. I am so thankful that after all our failures, like the defeat at Ai (Joshua 7), the Lord because of His love, His mercy, and His forgiveness, He gives us the opportunity of a new beginning (Joshua 8; 1 John 1:7-9). To find peace with God, to renew fellowship with God, to get back on our feet and face whatever challenges or battles that still lie ahead of us. God gives us a new beginning, a new guidance and wisdom, and new victories as we continue our journey, our pilgrimage through this world of sin.   Now, in verses 30-35, of Joshua 8, we find that the people of Israel make a new commitment as they build this altar. At some time following the victory at Ai, Joshua led the people thirty miles north to Shechem, which lies in the valley between Mt. Ebal and Mt. Gerizim. Here the nation obeyed what Moses had commanded them to do in his farewell speech. “Therefore it shall be, when you have crossed over the Jordan, that on Mount Ebal you shall set up these stones, which I command you today, and you shall whitewash them with lime. And there you shall build an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones; you shall not use an iron tool on them. You shall build with whole stones the altar of the LORD your God, and offer burnt offerings on it to the LORD your God. You shall offer peace offerings, and shall eat there, and rejoice before the LORD your God. And you shall write very plainly on the stones all the words of this law." (Deuteronomy 27:4-8)   “Now Joshua built an altar” (v. 30). “Now”, not shortly, not later, not tomorrow, but “now” is always the time to make sure of our relationship and fellowship with the Lord! Joshua interrupted the military activities to give Israel the opportunity to make a new commitment to the authority of Jehovah as expressed in His law. Since Abraham had built an altar at Shechem (Gen. 12:6-7), and Jacob had lived there a short time (chap. 33-34), the area had strong historic ties to Israel. Joshua's altar was built on Mt. Ebal, "the mount of cursing," because only a sacrifice of blood can save sinners from the curse of the law (Gal. 3:10-14).   In building the altar, Joshua was careful to obey Exodus 20:25 and not apply any tool to the stones picked up in the field. No human work was to be associated with the sacrifice lest sinners think their own works can save them (Eph. 2:8-9). God asked for a simple stone altar, not one that was designed and decorated by human hands, "that no flesh should glory in His presence" (1 Cor. 1:29). It's not the beauty of manmade religion that gives the sinner forgiveness, but the blood on the altar (Lev. 17:11).   In verse 31, the priests offered burnt offerings to the Lord as a token of the nation's total commitment to Him (Leviticus1). The peace offerings, or "fellowship offerings," were an expression of gratitude to God for His goodness (Leviticus 3; 7:11-34). A portion of the meat was given to the priests and another portion to the offeror, so that he could eat it joyfully with his family in the presence of the Lord (Leviticus 7:15-16, 30-34; Deut. 12:17-18). By these sacrifices, the nation of Israel was assuring God of their commitment to Him and their fellowship with Him.   Today, we can renew fellowship with the Lord at His altar of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on Calvary! There we can confess our sins and be assured that, “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).   God Bless!

This year, we're on a series of teachings based on the book of Hebrews and centered on the preeminence of Jesus Christ, “Jesus Is Better.” In today's sermon, pastor Abie Kulynych warns us that there is a dander of drifting away and teaches us to moderate our desires so we can learn to be content with God and Jesus Christ His Son.

When in darkness, we cannot see. If we want to be able to see in darkness, it's simple; we need light. We can refer back to 1 John 1:5-7 – "This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." – Jesus opens our eyes to see the truth. To see and believe that we are saved from our sins. Christ opened a man's eyes so that he can see, let us pray that He likewise, opens our eyes to the truth.

In the AM we consider our Psalm of the Month for August - Psalm 117. In this, the shortest psalm of them all, we find the most profound truths. The psalm's size is meant to be an aid for our memorization of the great truths of the gospel going forth to all nations, tribes, and tongues. All are called to worship the one living and true God in Jesus Christ His Son. But if they are to call on His name, the church will need to send missionaries with a view that all men would worship God.

Welcome my friends to season 3 of the Determined to Dance podcast. My prayer is that you'll be encouraged to persevere daily in our chaotic world. Today's episode, God's Forgiveness, focuses on our failures, His forgiveness. Show Notes: God's Forgiveness Sin. Not my favorite subject for a podcast. That's probably why I named it God's forgiveness. I'd much rather focus on His forgiveness than on the reason I need it. We all sin. It says in Romans 3:23-26: “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.” NLT Made right by believing. What glorious news. Every year, I choose a word or phrase to focus on. I pray and ask God to point it out and at some point, in November or December, the word or phrase shows up. This past December, I was reading a devotional, and all of a sudden the word honest seemed to leap from the page. I cringed. That's my word for 2023? Some of you might say ‘No biggie,' but it is for me. I don't like to confront or upset people, so sometimes I might say a little less than is true to keep the peace. I can also exaggerate. I knew God was calling me to consider my words in a different light than ever before. It's been difficult and I've had to backtrack a time or two on what I've said but I'm learning an important lesson. Telling a little white lie or omission is just as bad as someone who is deceitful and always lies. Scripture says that Satan is the father of all lies. Yipes. Let's go back to my earlier statement. We all sin. Surely God is yelling at us for our mistakes, after all the blessings we've received from Him. But God… Jeff Walling says, “No wonder we try to crawl away and hide when sin brings us down. If that's the kind of response we imagine from God, we'd have to be crazy to call out to him for help. But the writer of Psalm 107 stands by his first verse: “The love of the Lord endures forever.” Even the willful sinner can dance in the dark if he will look to the Lord. And when he does, he will find grace, not disgust, in those eyes.” The blood of Jesus is such a beautiful truth in scripture. The fact that He loved us as sinners, died on the cross and bore those sins, and covered them with his blood is truly miraculous. He loved us when we didn't even acknowledge Him. Hallelujah. Our part is to believe. And to keep seeking Him over and over to grow so close to Him that we don't sin as often. We aren't repeat offenders, not caring how we live because if we ask, He'll forgive. We want to walk free from sin. I John 1:7: “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” We believe, we are cleansed, and we walk by His side, crucifying our flesh every day. We all sin but we can all be forgiven. Let's pray: Father God, we've all sinned and fallen short but You chose to send Your son to take our place. We believe in You and Your Son and the Holy Spirit. Thank you for a gift that is beyond our minds to truly comprehend. We love You, staying close so we can always walk in Your ways. In Jesus' name, we pray, amen. God forgives when we ask. Paul talked about this in Romans 6, about how we shouldn't try and misuse or misappropriate the grace of God by thinking it gives us the right to keep on sinning.By no means, in truth, the grace of God is not a license to sin, but rather the power of God to overcome sin.At this point, our plea should be: “Father, help me love the things you love and hate the things you hate.”You see, God loves people, but He hates sin.He loves people, but He hates pride, and so should we.It is important to note at this point that mourning over sin and various sins will come in different stages for the believer. For example, One believer may be convicted heavily about lying or gossiping, while another believer may be convicted of telling dirty jokes. Now all of these things, when taken at face value are not good things and could certainly be considered sinful, but we must always remember that unless the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, there isn't going to be any true change. In other words, it is not our job to go about fault-finding or telling people what we think they should or shouldn't be working on, or what we believe to be the most deplorable sins in their lives.Each of us must work out our own salvation with fear and trembling and walk in the amount of light the Lord is currently giving us. Know this, as we mature in the Lord, we may get victory over some of the more visible and outward sins like stealing or cussing but then Holy Spirit will then begin dealing with us with things like motives, thoughts, the things that are less visible to others and even to us oftentimes. We will never outgrow the Holy Spirit's conviction nor will we ever come close to perfection on this side of glory, the ultimate goal being to be more and more like Jesus every day. I want to end today's encouragement with a verse found in 1 John 1:7 Keeping this scripture verse in mind, it will help us stay on the right track, with a proper view of sin and a love for others! “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” NKJV
