Ganz anders bei Bitcoin. Kryptoanalytisch relevante Quantencomputer wären auf vielfache Weise eine Bedrohung für die wichtigste Kryptowährung (und für unwichtige auch). Nicht nur auf technischer Ebene. Immerhin ist der Algorithmus, mit dem sich der private key aus einem public key errechnen lässt, schon seit Jahrzehnten bekannt. Es fehlt bislang nur an der passenden Hardware, von der immer mehr Menschen und Institutionen jedoch ausgehen, dass sie innerhalb der nächsten ein bis zwei Dekaden zu einer ernstzunehmenden Bedrohung für alle auf asymmetrischer Kryptographie basierenden Bereichen unseres Lebens wird. Doch um Bitcoin abzusichern reicht es nicht mal, nur die Kryptographie auszutauschen (was schon schwer genug ist). Auch für Bitcoins sozialen Vertrag würde der Q-Day zu einer Herausforderung. Denn es müssten grundlegende Entscheidungen getroffen werden, die alle Betreffen: Entwickler, Nutzer, Unternehmer. Und alle müssten irgendwie mitmachen. Kurzum: Bitcoin quantensicher zu machen, ist keine Kleinigkeit und wie das gelingen kann, ist in vielen Bereichen noch offen. Doch sollte uns das schlaflose Nächte bereiten? Erst einmal nicht. Denn die Herausforderungen sind auf beiden Seiten groß und der Bitcoin-Space hat glücklicherweise einige sehr kluge Köpfe, die das Thema auf dem Schirm haben. Zwei davon haben wir eingeladen und gemeinsam mit Jonas Nick und Murch erklären und verorten wir, wie groß die Quantenbedrohung für Bitcoin derzeit ist. Doch hört am besten selbst!
