The first movie ever screened in the White House wasn't Casablanca or Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. It was The Birth of a Nation: a Ku Klux Klan recruitment ad that glorified white rage bloodlust. A century later, Trump's White House is the sequel: staged propaganda to glorify lies, violence, and hate against freedom fighters–otherwise known as antifa–otherwise known as World War II veterans who won the war against tyranny. Because if you're not antifa, you're pro-fascism. Trump is the Frankenstein monster of America's darkest chapters: Jim Crow, McCarthyism, Watergate, and reality-TV nihilism. But the heroes who stormed Normandy didn't die for us to cower before a spray-tanned con man. Which brings us to the Epstein Files: the panic button of MAGA-land. If the Epstein Files were nothing, Trump and Mike Johnson wouldn't be working so hard to shut down our government and prevent a vote. “Teflon Don” has gotten away with years of crimes, including inciting a violent attempted overthrow of our democracy, which led to several deaths, including of law enforcement. So why is he so panicked about the Epstein Files? The truth will come out, as it always does. And remember: bullies only understand strength. So keep pushing, keep shouting, and for the love of democracy: Release. The. Epstein. Files. What's worse than a conspiracy theory? When the actual conspiracy is even worse than the theory. Jeffrey Epstein carried out a kompromat operation for years, capturing American elite, unleashing a national security nightmare, and destroying the lives of children. In this special episode with Russian mafia expert Olga Lautman, we examine Epstein, Trump, and Russia–and the threats that still remain from the real life QAnon. Epstein was the closest thing Trump had to a friend, going back to the 1980s. The rise of these criminal networks intertwined: Epstein, Trump, and Rudy Giuliani pushing out the Italian mafia as mayor of New York to make room for the Russian mafia–a takeover that accelerated after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Epstein's wife-in-crime Ghislaine Maxwell's father, Robert Maxwell, was a documented KGB asset with a sideline in laundering Soviet billions, and reportedly also worked with Israeli intelligence, the Mossad, at a time when the Kremlin used the Jackson-Vanik amendment passed by Congress to release spies and criminal assets among the Jewish Soviet citizens, like Lautman's family, seeking refuge in the U.S. While Epstein's survivors beg for justice and promise to release their own list of elite pedophiles, the GOP continue the Epstein cover-up to protect convicted felon Trump, their battering ram against democracy. QAnon was deflection, fueled by Russian disinformation to protect their wrecking ball in the White House. Expect more Russian psyops as the far-right Epstein cover-up continues. Call your reps and demand: release the Epstein files. Why would someone sell at a discount? In previous episodes of the Heartland Multifamily Show, I've talked about the importance of being skeptical if someone offers you a property at a discount. But there are many good reasons why a property owner is willing to leave money on the table in favor of a quick sale. The top four reasons are illness/death, being on the verge of repossession, not having the time or energy to manage the property, and seeing another opportunity that makes up for the immediate loss. Watch this episode of the Heartland Multifamily Show to learn more.

What if Science Isn't About Truth After All?When I started out, I believed research was about uncovering some objective reality. Something we're all moving toward, together. But over the years, I've let go of that belief. Not out of cynicism, but because I've seen how science actually works. We don't just ask what is “true or valid.”Truth and validity is just the beginning.Seeking truth is challenging. We really often don't know what “truth is.”We have to remember the system managed by imperfectly rational humans. But, let's not just blame the people involved. They are doing their best. We often all are. And, we often research things that are challenging.Science and research is just hard. There are tools, like replication and retesting, but it is only the start. We also have to ask:- What will reviewers like?- What will get published?- What will get cited, shared, or funded? What makes it through isn't always just truth, as I once understood. It's what feels persuasive, legible, beautiful.Strange ideas, messy ideas, uncomfortable ideas? They rarely survive the filter. We don't have good universal definitions of what is persuasive or beautiful. And this isn't just a social science problem. It's science, full stop.⸻I have seen this firsthand with my own work.I share publicly. I build tools. I try to make research more human. And most of the time?Ignored. Discounted. Misunderstood.I am not upset. This is not a rant. It's just reality.Look at my Youtube videos on R3ciprocity or these posts. Some work because some see their own humanity in it, and others barely get a few dozen views. I cannot predict what will be liked or who will pay attention. Some warrant more attention than I would like. It is such a challenge to understand. But I have realized: it's not just me.It's the system. The our realities are not only about facts. It's about style, status, and maybe who gets to speak.Again, this is not a flaw. This is the reality of being a human being in a beautifully ambiguous and changing world.⸻So what's left?I don't think the answer is perfect peer review. That is very difficult to do, and perhaps impossible.I don't think the answer is another ranking system. The answer might be simpler: • Let more voices in. • Accept more ambiguity. • Make the invisible visible.Just have more ideas to be heard, no matter who they come from.Maybe we create different ways to communicate become more acceptable?Maybe we explore and play. Be silly.I do see many positive things happening. We need to figure out how to get people to continue to show up in science, and not give up.Because science isn't only about truth. It's about listening to others' realities. It is about not giving up in the face of the difficult uphill climb. It's about letting your voice sing in a way the shares truth, and what you love to explore.Because it is so more than about truth. It is about what is beautiful.

Two-time Trump administration vet Lynne Parker has exited as principal deputy director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy following the release of the administration's AI plan. In a LinkedIn post Tuesday, Parker said she was “passing the torch” and had fulfilled her mission of helping the Trump administration “hit the ground running,” citing the launch of AI innovation and education initiatives as well as drone-focused policy, and the administration's “gold standard” science initiative. She said she plans to return to her retirement in Tennessee. Parker joined the administration in January, working alongside OSTP Director Michael Kratsios. In addition to her OSTP title, she was also named executive director of the President's Council of Advisors for Science and Technology. Parker had returned to the current Trump administration after serving as deputy CTO and founding director of the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Office. The White House didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on her departure. In addition to Parker, OSTP senior policy advisor Dean Ball also recently announced he was leaving the White House following the release of the administration's anticipated AI Action Plan last month. Ball rejoined the Foundation for American Innovation, a technology-focused think tank formerly known as the Lincoln Network, as a fellow focused on AI policy and governance models for emerging technology. The cloud management company Box is the latest agency to strike a deal with the General Services Administration to offer its artificial intelligence services to the federal government at a fraction of the normal price. The GSA said in an announcement Wednesday that federal agencies can buy Box's Enterprise Plus for Government software for up to 75% off and the company's Enterprise for Advanced Government software discounted by up to 65% of the listed price for a year-long term. The announcement follows a series of other deals with major AI firms like OpenAI and Anthropic that aim to increase the use of AI across the federal government. Like the other OneGov collaborations, the GSA said Box's AI platform will help boost productivity at agencies, automate workflows and assist with tasks like document generation, e-signatures and forms. I started teaching one private yoga client virtually in 2019 when she left Washington, DC for California. But other than her I had absolutely NO experience teaching online when everything changed on March 13th, 2020. I was slightly ahead of the curve in understanding that the pandemic would be a life alternating experience and that we wouldn't be teaching yoga in-person for many many months. I made really quick work of getting all my in-person private students on board to pivot to virtual private lessons and by Monday March 16th I had everyone set up for the virtual lessons in their normal standing scheduled spot. I did not miss a single day of work, or single private lesson in that transition and that is something I am really proud of. Then, at the beginning of 2022 I moved to a new area and had a baby. I kept all my clients virtual through that transition and 95% of my teaching is still virtual. And I LOVE it. Today on the podcast I'm making the case for virtual private lessons! I'll tell you: why AND how to find virtual private clients why they are great for your students how they can help support your business who they are a good fit for (both student and teacher) how to get started in offering virtual private lessons Resources mentioned in the episode: 3 Steps to Teach Better Private Lessons Video Series two effective strategies for booking private clients TEMPLATES The Science of the Private Lesson online course Discounted mentoring sessions Camera set up This episode is brought to you by OfferingTree, an easy-to-use, all-in-one online platform for yoga teachers that provides a personal website, booking, payment, blogging, and many other great features. Alan Sim, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's chief data officer, announced his departure from the agency after nearly five years in the position, per a post he wrote on social media Monday. Sim took on the role of chief data officer in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and over the years has been a leader on initiatives such as the agency's generative AI projects. Reflecting on his time, Sim pointed to several “firsts” the agency achieved, including launching its enterprise data catalog and using data and cloud technologies to improve emergency response. “It is with mixed emotions that I announce my departure from the CDC,” Sim wrote in a post to LinkedIn. His time as CDC's data leader was his second run at the agency. Sim, who has a PhD in epidemiology, had also been a graduate fellow and then a health informatics scientist at CDC early on in his career in the late 90s to the early 2000s. In his post, Sim said that period was “defined by concerns like bioterrorism, Anthrax, and SARS.” “Returning in 2020 as CDC's Chief Data Officer during the worst pandemic in our nation's history was both a significant challenge and a profound opportunity,” Sim said. Sim didn't include details about his next steps but said he would be sharing more soon. It is unclear who the acting CDO is in his absence. The General Services Administration struck a deal with Oracle as part of its OneGov strategy to provide a variety of cheaper services to federal agencies, including a 75% discount for license-based Oracle Technology Programs. Under OneGov, GSA wants to work directly with original equipment manufacturers like Oracle to negotiate better governmentwide terms for commercial technology. On top of the 75% discount for licensed technology such as database, integration, security, and analytics services, Oracle will also offer “substantial base discounts” for its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services, GSA announced Monday. Oracle is now the latest of several technology vendors, including Adobe, Google, Salesforce and others, to negotiate a OneGov deal with GSA. This deal, however, comes with some additional terms beyond discounts that stand to benefit federal agencies as they modernize their IT infrastructures. In particular, Oracle won't charge data egress fees when agencies move their “existing workloads from Oracle Government Clouds to another cloud service provider's FedRAMP Moderate, High or DOD IL 4, 5 Cloud,” GSA said in its release. The company will also promote pricing parity with other competing commercial cloud providers, “with no additional security or government uplifts ever charged in the Oracle cloud.” The Daily Scoop Podcast is available every Monday-Friday afternoon. Matthew Le Merle joined the podcast to discuss his journey from a consulting background to breaking finance with blockchain. He explains how he and his wife Alison pivoted to blockchain after recognizing it as the next major wave of digital value creation following the internet era. He breaks down the differences between blockchain, crypto, and DeFi, and shares how the financial industry is slow to adapt due to outdated systems and vested interests. While adoption may seem slow, it's actually progressing rapidly by historical standards, and transformation remains inevitable no matter what. We discuss... Matthew Le Merle transitioned from a career in consulting and digital innovation to blockchain venture investing after identifying it as the next major wave of value creation. He and his wife began investing in blockchain over a decade ago, seeing it as the foundation for digitalizing commerce and finance. Blockchain, or distributed ledger technology (DLT), complements the internet by enabling secure, trust-based value transfers. Crypto is a subset of digital assets—usually natively digital—enabled by tokenization on blockchain infrastructure. Tokenization allows any asset to be digitally represented and transacted without paper or manual processes. DeFi (Decentralized Finance) enables financial transactions through code rather than intermediaries, potentially removing banks and middlemen from the equation. The current financial system is deeply entrenched with inefficiencies and intermediaries that profit from friction and delay. Incumbent institutions like banks face both technological and incentive-based challenges in adopting blockchain solutions. Just as digital communication disrupted legacy industries, blockchain is likely to disrupt banking and finance despite institutional resistance. While adoption of smart contracts and blockchain applications has been slower than expected, it's following a similar long development arc as the early internet. Digital assets are designed to function natively on digital infrastructure, enabling real-time, frictionless movement. Discounted cash flow models can now be used to estimate intrinsic value for platforms like Ethereum and Solana. Bitcoin's value is more abstract, deriving from its role as a hedge against government control, inflation, and confiscation. Blockchain investing spans six asset classes: early, mid/late, and public stages for both equity and token-based investments. Entry-level exposure to crypto can be done via small Bitcoin allocations, as recommended by BlackRock and others. The biggest blockchain fortunes have come from early-stage investments, not public market trading.
