Send us Fan MailRheumatoid arthritis is often thought of as a condition that only affects the joints, but emerging research suggests the story begins much earlier and extends far beyond them.In this episode of The Autoimmune RESET, registered nutritionist VJ Hamilton explores the latest evidence surrounding rheumatoid arthritis, including the fascinating links between the gut microbiome, intestinal barrier, oral health and immune regulation. You'll learn why researchers now believe that immune dysfunction may begin at mucosal surfaces such as the gut and mouth years before joint symptoms develop, and how factors including microbial diversity, nutrition, sleep and stress can influence immune resilience.VJ explains the science in an accessible and practical way, covering the role of key bacteria such as Prevotella copri and Akkermansia muciniphila, why butyrate-producing bacteria are so important, and how oral bacteria may contribute to immune activation. She also discusses the gut-joint axis, why stool testing has become such a valuable tool in personalised nutrition, and the simple lifestyle changes that can support your immune system alongside conventional medical care.Whether you've recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, are supporting someone who has, or simply want to better understand autoimmune disease, this episode offers practical, evidence-based insights to help you look beyond symptom management and towards supporting the root causes of immune dysfunction. The Root Reset® IntensiveA private, in-person experience designed to help you connect the dots, identify potential root causes, and create a personalised six-month strategy for improving your health. The first Root Reset® Intensives will be taking place on Harley Street in London this summer. You can apply here.

We cover Apple TV+'s Cape Fear episode 3, “Phantom Sensations,” with Sona, starting with a quick Knicks aside and then a scheduling note: we'll cover episode 4 next week before pivoting for two weeks to The Bear, with The Agency also returning. We recap key points from earlier episodes, including Anna's strained relationship with her father, Max's abusive adoptive upbringing and dog-training imagery, speculation about “devil's breath,” and the discovery of a murdered family. In episode 3, Tom confronts pool squatters and his gun stash is emphasized, while Anna escalates by cloning Zach's phone and impersonating him, drawing Nevia to the house; Nevia's motives remain unclear. Max's unsettling public encounter, the family's glitching security footage, leaked party videos, Tom's near-affair, and the episode-ending VHS featuring Juliette Lewis and a dog-collar song deepen the show's themes of intrusion, surveillance, and destabilization. Victor kicks off a week-to-week deep dive into Cape Fear, the new Apple TV+ adaptation from producer Nick Antosca (executive produced by Scorsese and Spielberg). Before bringing in co-host Sona, Victor walks through the full history of the source material — from the 1957 novel and the 1962 Hitchcock-adjacent adaptation, through Scorsese's celebrated 1991 film, all the way to this new ten-episode series. The conversation covers what makes this version distinct: a new crime at the center of Max Cady's imprisonment, a defense attorney protagonist played by Amy Adams who may have a far more complicated history with Cady than anyone knows, and a modern-day anxiety layer involving home security systems, online manipulation, and the very real fear that someone is already inside your house. Javier Bardem's magnetic, unsettling performance as Max Cady is a major topic, as is whether the show's relentless, uncut dread — and its considerable gore — will sustain itself over a full ten-episode run. Sona joins to share her firsthand perspective on the accuracy of the innocence project storyline, weigh in on the performances, discuss the show's overwhelming sense of dread, and debate the many dangling mysteries of episodes one and two — including who (or what) is living in the Bowden house, what really happened between Anna and Max during the trial, and just how many secrets this family is hiding. The episode closes with a recommendation for Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, a new Tatiana Maslany thriller that may be airing in parallel. What happens when the healthcare system fails a physician? Dr. Sonal Patel, a pediatrician, neonatologist, and lactation specialist, has lived both sides of postpartum care. After personally navigating postpartum depression, perinatal anxiety, pre-eclampsia, VBACs, severe tears, and breastfeeding struggles across four pregnancies, she turned her experience into action. Dr. Patel founded NayaCare, a home health clinic reimagining postpartum support, and co-founded the Center for 4th Trimester Care, a physician-led national nonprofit challenging the status quo of maternal healthcare. She's a TEDx speaker, author of The Doctor and Her Black Bag, and a passionate advocate for paid family leave, helping pass Colorado's FAMLI legislation. In this episode, we're talking about what the "4th trimester" really looks like, why even the most privileged mothers fall through the cracks, and what better postpartum care could mean for families and their babies' sleep. Episode Highlights: Dr. Patel opens up about her own postpartum journey across four pregnancies, from postpartum depression and perinatal anxiety to pre-eclampsia and breastfeeding struggles. If a physician with every advantage still fell through the cracks, what does that mean for every other mother? We dig into why the postpartum window is one of the most overlooked periods in maternal healthcare, what "4th trimester care" actually looks like in practice, and how Dr. Patel built NayaCare to fill the gap that families desperately need filled.  From her TEDx stage to the halls of Colorado's legislature, Dr. Patel has turned personal experience into policy change. We talk about her nonprofit work, paid family leave advocacy, and why fixing postpartum care isn't just a women's health issue. It's a children's health issue too.   Resources:  Website: nayacare.org https://www.instagram.com/nayacare/ https://www.facebook.com/nayacarecolorado https://www.linkedin.com/in/sonal-patel-md-12982a141/ https://www.youtube.com/@nayacare6918 Tiktok: @sonalpatel4tridoc

Victor and Sona discuss the latest episode of Apple TV+'s Your Friends and Neighbors, noting the show's strong ratings and early third-season renewal, then pivot to a mixed reaction: they appreciate the episode's theme about “when is it enough” and the pressures of maintaining a wealthy lifestyle, but feel the hour leans into “poor Coop vs hysterical women,” raising explicit concerns about misogyny. They revisit the prior funeral episode more favorably on rewatch, then break down plot points including Tori and Mel's legal trouble, Mel's refusal to apologize, Coop's baffling decision to confess financial crimes to Liv, Ash's increasingly controlling gestures toward Sam, Grace and Barney's fight over working for her father, Coop's comedic near-caught burglary, and Mel accidentally running over the neighbor's dog and burying it with Sam. Send us Fan MailFor this week's Friday Five episode, we are talking about histamine overload and five simple ways to naturally reduce histamine burden without becoming fearful of food or excessively restrictive.Histamine intolerance is often far more nuanced than simply reacting to high-histamine foods. In this episode, I explore the deeper connections between histamine, the nervous system, gut health, inflammation, stress, nutrient deficiencies, and immune regulation. We discuss why symptoms like headaches, flushing, hives, sinus congestion, anxiety, palpitations, bloating, poor sleep, and feeling “wired” can sometimes be signs that the body's overall inflammatory load has become too high — and how supporting the body more holistically can help improve resilience over time.Inside this episode, we cover:Why histamine is not inherently “bad”The histamine bucket analogy and why symptoms can suddenly appearThe connection between stress, mast cells, and nervous system dysregulationHow gut health and the microbiome influence histamine levelsWhy blood sugar balance and sleep matter more than many people realiseThe role of leftovers and food freshness in histamine symptomsNutrients involved in histamine breakdown including vitamin C, magnesium, B6, zinc, and copperGentle, practical ways to support the body naturallyResources mentioned in this episode:Nurosym vagus nerve stimulation device. Send us Fan MailIn this week's Friday Five, I'm breaking down some of the standard blood markers I commonly look at in clinic when somebody is dealing with autoimmune disease, inflammation, fatigue, or hair loss — including alopecia. One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that “normal” blood tests automatically mean everything is functioning optimally. But in reality, many people continue to struggle with symptoms despite being told their results are fine.In this episode, I explain why interpretation matters just as much as the numbers themselves, and why looking at patterns across the body can often reveal far more than one isolated marker.I discuss:• Ferritin, transferrin and the wider iron picture• Why ferritin alone may not tell the full story in inflammatory conditions• Thyroid markers beyond TSH, including Free T3, Free T4 and thyroid antibodies• The role of thyroid hormone conversion in energy, metabolism and hair health• Vitamin D and immune regulation• Zinc and its role in immune resilience, skin and hair health• White blood cells, neutrophils and lymphocyte patterns in autoimmune disease• What triglycerides can tell us about metabolism, blood sugar regulation and inflammation• Why markers like serum B12 or HbA1c may not always reflect the full picture• The importance of interpreting symptoms alongside laboratory testingThis episode is not about becoming fearful of blood tests or obsessing over numbers. It's about understanding the body more deeply and recognising that subtle shifts in markers can sometimes provide important clues long before symptoms become more significant. If you've ever been told “everything looks normal” but still feel that something is off, this episode is for you.

Sona and I recap the latest Your Friends & Neighbors, “And for Everything Else, There Was Bowling,” with a long digression into shifting TV/sports monoculture, Ticketmaster/scalping dynamics, and Broadway ticket realities. We discuss declining NBA/awards ratings, how podcasts create smaller communities (including listeners who don't watch the shows), and plug the Patreon plus a bonus breakdown of a surprise secret episode of The Bear featuring Jon Bernthal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. On the show recap, we debate this midseason “soft reset” focused on Coop processing his father's death, the cufflinks vs. bowling ball symbolism, the ghostlike POV/camera motif, and the Warren Zevon song “Keep Me in Your Heart for A While.” We criticize episode length, scattered subplots (Mel's perimenopause, Tory/Princeton, dog poop, Barney's wife, Ashe), and hope the final four episodes regain clear stakes and plot momentum. On this episode of Need Some Introduction, Victor and Sona discuss “Halfway to Invisible” from Your Friends and Neighbors, first sharing podcast news (a platform change enabling possible crossovers, a free-for-now Patreon continuing Christopher Nolan films, and future content moving there) and box office talk about the surprise success of The Devil Wears Product Too and its appeal to middle-aged audiences. They then unpack the episode's central theme—characters confronting aging, visibility, status, sexuality, and mortality—culminating in Coop's father's death, but argue the show treats these ideas superficially and lacks focus and suspense. They criticize sidelining Ash, the incoherent Elena/bail subplot, and the implausibility of Sam being welcomed back after framing Coop, though they praise a late Mel–Sam scene for finally giving Sam emotional clarity. They also recommend Apple's Widows Bay, dismiss Imperfect Women, and complain the episodes are too long. Stream Prison Break on Hulu (U.S.) and Disney+ (Internationally) Sarah Wayne Callies and Paul Adelstein welcome this episode's co-writer, Seth Hoffman.  Prison Break was Seth's first Hollywood job and he was one of the first people hired onto the show by Matt Olmstead as the Writer's Assistant.  He shares his unusually quick rise from writer's assistant to staff writer and now showruns WALKING DEAD: DEAD CITY.  He describes how he was hired at the start of season one, promoted unusually quickly, and why the room was uniquely functional and generous, offering assistant education through episode cut viewings and editorial notes. They explore season three's tonal shift to a darker, less-controlled world for Michael, shaped in part by looming Writer's Guild strike uncertainty and network concerns about bleakness. Hoffman shares casting memories (notably William Fichtner as Mahone), the use of fake audition sides to avoid spoilers, limited writer-on-set practices, and lessons from producer Karen Usher. He also pitches a later “season five” concept set in Hell and answers a “Sona escape partner” question with Andy Dufresne. Marcie Borgal Shunk is the founder and president of The Tilt Institute and creator of Leadership Foundations, a high-impact virtual program designed to give law firms essential leadership skills and practical solutions. For nearly three decades, she has worked with more than 3,000 law firm leaders on talent, culture, and leadership, helping dozens of AmLaw firms anticipate and prepare for the future of law. A Harvard graduate, Marcie holds two fellowships, four certifications in culture and coaching, and several board advisory positions. She is a frequent contributor to the American Lawyer, Thomson Reuters, and Bloomberg Law. Sona Spencer is the Chief Legal Talent Officer at Troutman Pepper Locke, where she leads the firm's legal recruiting, professional development, inclusion, and career coaching functions. Drawing from more than 15 years of experience in AmLaw 50 firms, she collaborates closely with firm stakeholders to implement training, compensation frameworks, and inclusion and retention strategies that ensure the firm can attract and retain talent at all levels to exceed client service goals. WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS EPISODE ABOUT THE DEATH OF APPRENTICESHIP IN LAW FIRMS The apprenticeship model built generations of lawyers, and for a long time it worked. Junior associates learned by proximity, absorbing how to think and practice by working alongside more experienced attorneys over the course of years. Hybrid work, lateral mobility, and generational shifts in how people learn have quietly dismantled that model, and many firms are still operating as though it's intact. Addressing the problem requires more than plugging holes. Firms need to rethink how they signal investment in their people, build structured pathways that make expectations explicit, and develop the human and leadership skills that AI cannot replicate. The firms getting this right have moved beyond standalone training programs and created systems where talent can see the path, understand what's expected, and take an active role in their own development. In this episode of The Lawyer's Edge, Elise Holtzman talks with Marcie Borgal Shunk of The Tilt Institute and Sona Spencer of Troutman Pepper Locke about why the apprenticeship model is failing, what the most forward-thinking firms are doing differently, how AI is reshaping the skills lawyers need to develop, and where firm leaders should start if they want to make a real change. 2:38 - The origin of "The Death of Apprenticeship" article 4:08 - Why hybrid work and generational differences are breaking down the model 7:08 - Why what made senior lawyers successful may not work for the next generation 8:07 - Lateral mobility and compensation wars as added pressure on retention 10:45 - Making the business case for talent development 13:27 - Breaking down the true cost of replacing an associate 15:13 - AI and the risk of outsourcing junior associate learning 19:08 - The human skills firms need to be building deliberately 22:13 - Executive presence and how lawyers show up on camera and in rooms 27:07 - Why leaders have to model what they teach 29:34 - How Troutman Pepper Locke's YOUniversity achieved 75% participation in year one 32:02 - Benchmarks, Learning Management System (LMS) integration, and self-directed development paths 34:48 - Takeaways for smaller firms without large Learning & Development resources 38:44 - Starting small with pilots and building intentionally 41:26 - Don't assume your path is everyone's path 43:36 - Clear communication and moments of kindness Mentioned In The Death of Apprenticeship: What it Means for Lawyers and Law Firms Marcie Borgal Shunk on LinkedIn | The Tilt Institute Sona Spencer on LinkedIn | Troutman Pepper Locke The Death of Apprenticeship: Reimagining Law Firm Talent Strategy for a New Era Get connected with the coaching team: hello@thelawyersedge.com The Lawyer's Edge

In this Bible study, Dave Bigler of Iron Sheep Ministries explores the profound opening verses of the Book of Hebrews. Focusing on Hebrews 1:1-2, this session dives into the various ways God has communicated with humanity throughout history—from the prophets of the Old Testament to the ultimate revelation through His Son, Jesus Christ.Dave breaks down complex theological concepts like Theophanies, Progressive Revelation, and Dispensationalism into accessible lessons, showing how Jesus is the heir of all things and the creator of the universe. Whether you are facing personal challenges or seeking a deeper understanding of the "Book of Better Things," this study offers a strong exhortation to remain faithful and recognize God's voice in your life today.View Dave's Notes Here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qo1z5_HmPDdHfgAz6Ls1jlG4UUNmJzZmI-h0zaaLZsI/edit?usp=drive_linkOUTLINE: 00:34 – Introduction: The Call to EndureDave introduces Hebrews as a "word of exhortation." Written to Jewish believers facing intense social and physical persecution, the book serves as a powerful encouragement to remain faithful. 04:14 – The Superiority of the SonThe study dives into the opening verses of Hebrews, contrasting God's past communication with His current revelation. In the "last days"—the era initiated by Christ's first coming—God has transitioned from using many messengers to speaking through a single, ultimate source: His Son. 06:02 – How God Spoke: Theophanies & VisionsDave explores the "many ways" God spoke to the ancestors. He breaks down Theophanies (God appearing in physical form) and Christophanies (pre-incarnate appearances of Christ), such as the burning bush or the figure who met Abraham. He also discusses God's use of audible voices, dreams, and visions given to prophets like Elijah and Isaiah. 17:55 – Progressive Revelation: From Prophets to the SonA look at Progressive Revelation—how God revealed His plan incrementally over time. Dave contrasts Dispensationalism (viewing history through distinct eras of testing) with Covenant Theology (viewing history through divine agreements). Regardless of the theological framework, the climax is the same: Jesus is the "Final Word." His revelation is superior because it is the complete and perfect expression of God's nature.25:34 – Jesus: The Heir of All ThingsThe title "Heir of all things" is explained through the lens of ancient inheritance rights. In a Jewish context, the firstborn received the birthright (physical inheritance) and the blessing (spiritual authority). Dave explains that Jesus holds both, making Him the rightful owner of all creation and the ultimate head over the family of God.27:06 – Jesus: The Agent of CreationThis section confirms the deity of Christ by identifying Him as the one "through whom also He made the universe." Dave aligns this with the Gospel of John, establishing that Jesus was not a created being but the divine agent through whom all time, space, and matter were formed. This reinforces why Jesus is "better" than any created thing, including angels.28:23 – Conclusion: The Discipline of HearingThe study concludes with a challenge regarding our "discipline of hearing." In a world full of noise, how do we hear the Son? Dave emphasizes that hearing from the Lord today requires a disciplined approach to Scripture and prayer. To know the "Final Word," we must be students of the Word.Next Study: A look at Hebrews 1.3-14, exploring Jesus' superiority to angels.Support Iron Sheep Ministries: https://Ironsheep.org/donateListen to the podcast: https://anchor.fm/ironsheepContact Dave & the ISM team: info@ironsheep.orgJoin the email list: http://eepurl.com/g-2zAD

Victor and Sona introduce their podcast recap of the Season 2 premiere of Apple TV's 'Your Friends and Neighbors,' noting the show's quick renewals and sharing upcoming travel to Florida that may affect release schedules; they also plug ongoing coverage of DTF (two episodes left), The Pitt (two episodes left), and upcoming Euphoria. They discuss Apple TV's growing volume of projects, including 'For All Mankind's' fifth season, the alt-history premise of the series, and new releases like Outcome, Margo's Got Money Troubles, Widows Bay, and The Savant. In the episode discussion, they criticize the confusing cold open and a clunky Princeton interview scene, praise James Marsden's introduction and dynamic with Sam, debate plot handwaving around the burglaries and legal fallout, and touch on Mel's perimenopause subplot, Coop's sister's job prospects, and the Gatsby-like party ending. They close with Sona's negative impressions of Imperfect Women and a brief discussion of how binge vs week-to-week release affects engagement. mailto:needssomeintroduction@gmail.com   00:00 Welcome and Show Intro 00:52 Travel Plans and Schedule 02:01 Subscribe Call to Action 03:02 Florida Meetup Idea 04:13 Imperfect Women Tease 05:19 Apple TV Content Boom 06:26 For All Mankind Pitch 10:37 Upcoming Apple Premieres 14:14 Start Season 2 Recap 14:42 General Impressions 18:07 Awkward Opening Scene 19:52 Previously On Debate 26:42 Handwaving and Logic 31:42 Princeton Interview Fail 34:33 Marsden Steals the Show 37:27 Themes and Season Setup 40:12 Status and envy culture 41:15 Luxury locations and towers 41:57 Marsden heist chaos 45:33 Barney joins the scheme 49:29 Mel date and perimenopause 52:32 Do heists still matter 56:48 Gatsby party spectacle 01:00:15 Politics and aging bodies 01:03:52 Teen drama and sister job 01:09:31 Imperfect Women rant 01:14:04 Binge vs weekly releases 01:17:05 Wrap up and goodbye
