In this episode, London family law barrister Nicholas Anderson, top UK family lawyer Karin Walker and Narcissism expert Dr Supriya McKenna discuss the issue of parental alienation - and how it is used by narcissistic parents as a means to punish their former spouse. Nick explains why the court is not the best place to deal with cases such as these, and Karin explains why arbitration is a much safer method to use where a narcissist is involved, where an adjudicative decision has to made regarding the children because the parents cannot agree. They discuss the important issue of how family solicitors representing a narcissist find themselves perpetuating the narcissist's abuse of their spouse, and the simple way to prevent this from happening - and how shortsighted they will find an approach like this to be when they themselves become the victim of the narcissist's abuse. They also delve into the difficult arena of relocation cases, where the non narcissistic parent wishes to move area with the children, but the narcissist blocks it. Finally, they reiterate the importance of education for judges and family lawyers, who first need to understand that NPD is a real diagnosable disorder, before becoming able to recognise the behaviours and the serious implications that it has for families in separation and divorce.
In this episode Nicholas Anderson, an experienced London barrister, Dr Supriya McKenna and top UK lawyer Karin Walker discuss why it is still unwise to use the term 'Narcissism' in the family court. They talk about the discrepancies in recognition of NPD between the medical profession in the UK and the USA, and the issues that arise when a narcissist triangulates their barrister with their solicitor. They also discuss the importance of the legal team drafting watertight consent orders to prevent the narcissist from exploiting any loopholes in the order further down the line, and how essential it is that orders are overdetailed in order to prevent this from happening. Karin explains why methods for reviewing the order at certain times, in particular for child arrangement orders, should be built-in to the order, to prevent the need for further court litigation at the hands of the narcissist. The impact of COVID, and how narcissistic parents have used it to prevent children from seeing their non-narcissistic parent is also highlighted.
In this episode, Top UK lawyer Karin Walker and Dr Supriya McKenna talk with Nicholas Anderson, a highly experienced barrister from 1KBW Chambers in London. They discuss the misunderstandings surrounding Narcissism among many barristers and judges, and how this can lead to judgements which fail to be in the children's best interests. They talk about the dangers of the charming and plausible presentation of the narcissist and the believable victim-playing of the closet narcissist - and how this can play out in court.

"Due to censorship restrictions, a veteran of Britain's MI6 intelligence service tells a fictionalized version of his covert action experiences" Publishers Weekly In my days there were five classified UK Eyes Only security clearance levels. The higher you went up the secrecy ladder, the less people knew about you... I held the highest security clearance level a British intelligence officer could reach. This book, the third in the NOC Trilogy covers my last five years in the field being in charge of the 'uncammo' (not in uniform) unit of the special forces, 2003-2007, which encompassed the Iraqi War and being in the field in Afghanistan, Somalia and The Yemen, among others. For obvious reasons I must remain anonymous. I am a British citizen and a 20-year veteran of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). I did three tours of duty, first serving in 1971-1983. I was recalled into active duty in 1992-1993 and 2003-2007, and volunteered for one more operation in 2008 after retirement. Since that time I have been granted political asylum in France, where I now reside. The first two books are: “NOC - Non-Official Cover: British Secret Operations and NOC Twice: More UK Non-Official Cover Operations.
Finding Fertile Ground Podcast: Stories of Grit, Resilience, and Connection
I interviewed April Brenden-Locke and Miguel Ochoa Castellanos about a wonderful children’s home in Chiapas, Mexico, called Hogar Infantil. April is the president of the American board of Hogar, and Miguel grew up there and runs a language school...he’s a great success story. They share how Hogar Infantil changed both of their lives, “cambiando vidas a través de la educación,” or “changing lives through education.”Miguel spoke to us from a small town in Chiapas, Mexico, the southernmost Mexican state. Miguel’s father passed away when he was six years old, and he didn’t have a happy childhood. After attending school, he would help his mom selling candy in the streets. They lived with relatives and didn’t have much money. His mom used to cry a lot, but she was a strong, hard-working woman. She made the heart-breaking decision to take Miguel to Hogar Infantil when he was just nine years old. Now that he’s older, Miguel recognizes how difficult that must have been. April grew up in a farm in Oregon. She struggled in high school, trying to figure out who she was, until she saw an opportunity to volunteer at Hogar. She went to Mexico thinking that the people at Hogar needed their help, but she quickly learned it was about becoming part of the community. She immediately felt welcomed into a big family at Hogar Infantil. The experience had a profound impact on her. “It was a place that has stayed in my heart my whole life.”Miguel told April that her decision had a big impact on him and the other Hogar residents.“Not many people decide to go to another country to help. It’s difficult to find people to share part of their time, to share part of their lives, to come to your country and your community, to help you."April was surprised when she saw how well the children took care of each other at Hogar. They didn’t have a lot of stuff, but what they had was shared with each other. They had this spontaneous sense of care and taking care of each other. When April went back to Hogar as an adult, she found that same spirit of community.Miguel believes that part of Hogar’s community spirit is the fact it’s situated in Chiapas, a part of Mexico that is very poor but also extremely generous and caring. Sharing is innate. Hogar Infantil was founded in 1963 by Nicholas Anderson, an American expat who was living in Chiapas. With just a handful of U.S. donors, Don Nich began taking in children who were living on the street. After Nich’s death in 1977, others, such as David “Capitán” Guinn, stepped in to ensure that Hogar Infantil would survive and carry on its mission to break the cycle of poverty through education.Miguel believes Hogar changed his life. After leaving Hogar, Miguel went on to study in the U.S. and to college. Then he opened up a language school in his living room, just raising enough money to buy chairs. Now he has a family, a language school, and another business. Now he has up to 200 students and employs 5 teachers. If you’ve been inspired by Miguel’s and April’s stories, you can find many ways to support Hogar Infantil and the children and staff there by visiting their website. Next week I interview Dr. Kris Gowen. After her best friend died, Kris decided to travel around to all 50 states and sign karaoke in each state! We talked about friendship, grief, and sex! Kris is cofounder of Beyond the Talk, the sex ed you wish you had. The Finding Fertile Ground podcast is brought to you by Fertile Ground Communications. We are joined again by Nicholas Anderson to discuss our thoughts on Inglourious Basterds, the brewing feud between Nick and Jordan and Nicks obsession with Zach Galifianakis. We then chit chat about Eddie and Steves true relationship.
Nicholas Anderson is back on the track with a little green bag. We rehash the Harry Potter movies, review the new one, revel in the idea of Jon minus 9, accuse a movie studio of making the same movie over again and dare to dream for celebrity guests.
