"I played the game different because I had too. I only knew one way." -- Matt Baty, former Div. I athlete and Entrepreneur   The NCAA ruled college sports with an iron fist for decades-- it was unconstitutional.   NCAA wants control. "The student athlete -- to me, the regulations need to be around the student“ states Matt Baty, former Senior Associate Athletic Director for the University of Kansas.  It's clear that the NCAA wants control. In June 2021 the Supreme Court ruled 9 to 0 in the NCAA v. Alston that the NCAA rules violated the Sherman Antitrust Act. And the term NIL was born! (and for some reason, Name Image & Likeness is confusing the hell out of people) It's also giving athletes opportunities to profit and through those profits they create opportunities for many more people. Matt Baty was a student athlete at the highest level. He worked for one of the greatest programs in college athletics at the highest level. He coaches kids of all ages to get the best out of each one of them so that they can improve their lives. And congratulations Coach on your first Kansas State baseball Championship at Trinity Academy. If you really want control, teach an individual the disciplines so that they can go on and become successful in their own life.

Some love him. Some hate him. Some love to hate him. Some hate to love him. He is never shy to share his opinion. And he is never boring. The co-owner and founder of The Field of 68, JEFF GOODMAN returns to the podcast. Jeff weighs in on what he perceives to be the historically weak class of 2026 and why so many top college coaches aren't on the recruiting circuit like they used to be.We also dig in on the current state of money in college basketball and how the balance of power continues to shift. Then, we take a deep dive on Coach Darian DeVries and what has impressed Jeff as he has gotten to know Coach DD better. We talk about why Coach DD can succeed where Woody and Archie failed before him. And we get into what his expectations are for Indiana this season and he gives us his off-season grade for IU.Controversial at times, but Jeff Goodman has given his 10,000 hours to the game of covering college basketball and we welcome his perspective to the show.In addition, I take some time to pay tribute to an IU legend, Bob Hammel, who passed away this week.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

For years he tormented IU fans with his sarcastic wit and blunt honesty as a national recruiting analyst for 247. But no one could question his knowledge, connections or insight. Then, he crossed the line from analyst to become the director of recruiting for Micah Shrewsberry at Penn State before following Micah to Notre Dame for the last two years. Today's guest is none other than BRIAN SNOW.In this week's episode Brian gives us his perspective on the current state of college basketball in the world of revenue sharing and the changing world of NIL. Brian breaks down which jobs might now be the best in the country and we talk about Indiana's place in the ever-changing landscape.Brian breaks down what it was like to recruit against Indiana and what the overall perception is of the Indiana program while also getting into specifics on why it just did not work with Archie and Woody and why it very well could with new head coach Darian DeVries. Brian is a guy who does not beat around the bush and calls it like he sees it. Some of which is VERY positive for IU and its future while he also brings up some areas of potential concern. It is a wide-ranging conversation that covers a lot of ground with a guy who has the unique experience of being a national analyst and also a guy who was in the trenches recruiting for a power 4 school. Sure, we love to bust his chops, but can't argue with the man's knowledge! Under the Tree: A Seminar on Freedom with Bill Ayers

Big time college sports have distorted the intellectual mission of colleges and universities for decades—and we're in a particularly volatile period as athletes organize themselves into unions and demand a share of the riches that they've created with their labor, as well as the fashioning of a system that makes intercollegiate athletics increasingly indistinguishable from professional sports. The “Transfer Portal,” the “Name/Image/Likeness” deals that athletes sign with third parties, and now direct payments to athletes on top of their scholarships (which typically cover tuition, housing, and health care) create a Brave New World for universities, perhaps a kind of crossing-the-Rubicon moment. We're joined by Rus Bradburd, a writer who spent 14 seasons coaching college basketball, followed by16 years as a university professor, in conversation about his subversive and hilarious novel, Big Time, as well as the state of the field.

Thursday, we hear from Husker Football GM Patrick Stewart, whom we hope has Nebraska's big-picture gameplan for roster limits, NIL, and more. But let's face it...if we said we weren't here for the Jacob Bower story, I'd be lying. The linebacker from California turned down free education at West Point to walk on at Nebraska and did everything right. Worked hard, improved his craft, and was rewarded with a scholly by Matt Rhule. But with Name-Image-Likeness growing, are these types of stories going to become extinct? And of course, this show is LIVE during the first round of the NFL Draft. Which Huskers have the greatest chances to hear their names called in the next few days? Will Nebraska have a first-round draft pick? No pressure, Ty Robinson. We'll see you tonight at 9pm Central. Don't miss it. College kids are back on campus and the fall semester is well underway throughout the nation. As we tune into college football games, March Madness, the College Baseball World Series and all of the other amazing sports we love, it is worth taking a look into the landscape of those athletics and how those students are now being paid for their services. Universities and the NCAA, long made the claim that student-athletes were 'amateurs' and could not be compensated other than in the form of a scholarship. Times have changed. Laws have changed and now college athletes are making millions of dollars. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Brian Fullmer is not new to the business world, nor the world of athletics. In fact, with his business knowledge and passion for sports, he wanted to help create a solution for athletes when it came to allowing them to leverage their Name, Image, and Likeness, starting with building their platforms.  That's where Athlete Narrative comes in. We're going to learn about this new app today and how it works to help these athletes build their brand and platform, so when they get to the next level, they can leverage that to be able to monetize it, while also not having to constantly worry about 'posting content'  We're definitely in a special place with the sports world now. And it's time for athletes to take advantage of these athletic gifts they've been given which can help them later on in life too, from a monetary standpoint.  Listen today as Brian breaks down what Athlete Narrative is all about and why you should be looking into this if you are an athlete or a parent. (yes I said parent as you will LOVE this app and what it's all about). The best part? The cost. It's MORE than affordable to take advantage of the services being provided. For just $100 a month, you can get ALL that's spoken about in this interview!! EVERYTHING. The content, the education, the protection, etc. For $100 a month!  Now the even better part to that? You can get 10% off each month's payment if you sign up for Athlete Narrative using my link below.
