Johnny Mac's Daily Comedy News covers David Letterman's New York Times interview about the Late Show ending, where he mocks the Ellisons, questions what happened to Stephen Colbert, and calls CBS/Skydance “lying weasels” despite CBS saying it was “unequivocally a financial decision,” while also discussing Byron Allen's Comics Unleashed as a sign of network TV's shift. The episode reports Louis C.K.'s Netflix festival set at the Hollywood Bowl, his material, standing ovation, lack of addressing misconduct he previously admitted to, and a Decider critique of Netflix and the media's framing. You might know Martha Kelly from her role Emmy-nominated role as the drug lord Laurie on the HBO series Euphoria or for her part as Martha, the deadpan hilarious Costco insurance agent and best friend of Zach Galifianakis's character in Baskets. You don't know her from her part in the Alvin & the Chipmunks series of films because she wasn't in those. Still, her knowledge of those movies runs very deep, stemming from watching them over and over with her niece. Martha Kelly has a love for Alvin and his brothers Simon and Theodore that is sincere and extremely well-informed. She'll tell you all about the original film, The Squeakuel, Chipwrecked, and even the surprisingly dark fourth film, Road Chip, wherein Tony Hale gets drunk, Theodore gets hit by a car, and a major subplot point involves child abandonment. But everything turns out okay! And you'll be okay listening to Martha and her plainspoken voice as you drift off to sleep. Episode 188 – Vancouver, Part Two: The Show ItselfEpisode 188 of The Letterman Podcast picks up right where last week left off.In Part One, Mike, Len, and Rob recounted the unforgettable experience of meeting David Letterman — and even Paul Shaffer — before Dave took the stage at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver for his sold-out conversation with Zach Galifianakis. This week, the focus shifts to the show itself.Len and Rob join Mike once again for a one-of-a-kind report on a one-of-a-kind evening, as the three of them break down the entire event from top to bottom. They discuss the surprise appearance by Paul Shaffer, the tone and rhythm of Dave's conversation with Zach, and a delightfully odd, very Andy Kaufman-esque bit that Zach may or may not have sprung on Dave in real time.If there's a more complete account of this Vancouver appearance anywhere online, we haven't seen it. This episode may well stand as the most definitive recap of the night — a David Letterman enthusiast's-eye document of a truly special show. For David Letterman enthusiasts, this is the kind of episode that preserves the magic. Before you go, make a stop at Hello-Deli.com — the one and only home of official Late Show with David Letterman merchandise, lovingly kept alive by the legendary Rupert Jee. Buy something classy. Or weird. Rupert contains multitudes. And if this episode brought you even a fraction of the joy that the show itself brought our little Vancouver wolfpack, please like, share, subscribe, and leave a positive comment. We're not above begging — but we prefer to think of it as charming persistence.
Episode 187 of The Letterman Podcast is the first in a special series focusing on David Letterman's recent appearance at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, British Columbia, where Dave sat down for an onstage conversation with Zach Galifianakis in front of a sold-out and extremely grateful crowd. But the story begins before the show.Mike and four fellow Letterman enthusiasts decided to head down to the venue early to see if lightning might strike… and if they might somehow get the chance to meet Dave.Joining Mike for the adventure were former podcast guests Rob Stover and Len “Lenny Bruce” Goldman, along with new friends James and Paul. What happened next turned into the thrill of a lifetime when the group not only met David Letterman, but Paul Shaffer as well.It was one of those surreal moments that fans dream about but rarely experience. The five-man “Wolfpack” walked away with memories — and photographic and video evidence — they'll never forget. In this episode, Len, Rob, and Mike recount the entire story from start to finish, sharing the excitement, the disbelief, and the joy of a moment that every Letterman enthusiast hopes to experience at least once. For anyone who considers themselves a fan of David Letterman and the broadcasts created by Dave and Company, this was nothing short of a grand slam home run of an experience — and we're thrilled to dedicate an entire episode to telling that part of the story.Next week, we'll return to talk about the show itself… which was absolutely outstanding.
Johnny Mac delivers a Daily Comedy News briefing previewing Nate Bargatze's game show and a new Taylor Tomlinson special, then cites a Naughty but Nice Substack report claiming CBS News leader Barry Weiss is considering booking Joe Rogan on 60 Minutes, though sources say Rogan likely wouldn't do it and would not be motivated by money.Jim Jefferies recounts meeting Dave Chappelle backstage shortly before Chappelle's onstage attack, and Jefferies discusses preferring shows with his own fans, concerns about longevity, identity tied to audience approval, and family time. The episode shares audio from Mike Chisholm describing David Letterman's sold-out JFL Vancouver show featuring Trump jokes, Paul Shaffer, a rendition of O Canada, career retrospectives, and an interview segment with Zach Galifianakis that included Andy Kaufman-style moments. A few years ago I was in LA and I went with my friend Chad to a "Judd Apatow and friends" comedy show where I was blown away by the lineup he brought out. Ray Romano! Zach Galifianakis! And, of course, the incredible Pete Holmes. Pete was my favorite comic that night. I have loved his comedy for years! And his book 'Comedy Sex God' was a wonderful read. My parents are Hindu but I grew up in the secular suburbs of Toronto being exposed to many different religions. Pete was very religious, and then wasn't, and now is again ... in this thoughtful, examining, spiritual way. His book, which is essentially his memoir, chronicles his journey through faith with lots of laughs and his trademark mind-expanding insights along the way. Pete's podcast You Made It Weird is a comedic exploration of the meaning of life, with guests ranging from Ryan Holiday to Mayim Bialik to Ben Stiller. Pete also starred in the HBO show Crashing which he executive produced with Judd Apatow. And, big news, he is currently touring! He's in Miami, LA, Royal Oaks, Irving, Madison, and Denver before the summer. Check out his comedy specials: Impregnated with Wonder (2011), Nice Try, The Devil (2013), Faces and Sounds (2016), Dirty Clean (2018), and I Am Not For Everyone (2023). So flip the page back to Chapter 40 of 3 Books and talk about why we withhold love, why myths are always true and sometimes really happen, why our brains want certainty but our hearts are comfortable with mystery, the salty sweet conundrum of life, and, of course, Pete's 3 most formative books. I hope you enjoy this classic chapter with Pete Holmes.
Jameela welcomes Ed Helms (The Office, The Hangover, SNAFU podcast) and Brian Huskey (Veep, Bob's Burgers, Community) for a masterclass in public humiliation, bodily betrayal, and the art of staying professional while everything is actively going wrong.Ed shares about his resting plane face, then revisits an Office scene that turned into a sealed-car panic situation. From there, things escalate in Bangkok, where one innocent street food decision leads to him shirtless on a red-light-district sidewalk between takes, being fed Sprite through a straw by Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis.Meanwhile, Brian's commitment to “the bit” reaches medically concerning levels, as a flirtation story becomes a full fainting incident that nobody recognises as a real emergency. Add in digestive disasters, professional embarrassment, and the delicate balance between dignity and dehydration, and you've got another episode of Wrong Turns doing exactly what it says on the tin. That Show Hasn't Been Funny In Years: an SNL podcast on Radio Misfits
Nick takes a close look at one of the funniest recurring bits from Saturday Night Live in the 2000s, the “Scared Straight” sketches built around Kenan Thompson's unforgettable convict, Lorenzo McIntosh. Loosely inspired by the 1978 TV documentary of the same name, the scenes usually drop a group of clueless teenage punks into a police station, where Officer Sikorsky, played perfectly by Jason Sudeikis, decides the best teaching tool is unleashing Lorenzo. Nick digs into how the sketches came together, who was involved in writing them, and why the formula worked so well. Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, and Bobby Moynihan rotate through the terrified kids, while Thompson cranks the intensity to ridiculous levels. Along the way, you'll hear standout moments featuring guest appearances from Shia LaBeouf, Tracy Morgan, Zach Galifianakis, and an especially memorable turn by Betty White. It's a deep dive into a run of sketches that still hold up, showing off Thompson's commitment, Sudeikis's timing, and a cast that knew exactly how far to push the joke. [Ep 160]
Nick is joined by former radio producer and longtime movie obsessive Tom Hush for the debut of what instantly feels like a dangerous new segment, Tom's Theater of Trash. The two dive headfirst into the world of gloriously bad and forgotten films, starting with Tom's love for the sharksploitation oddity Jaws 5: Cruel Jaws. That spirals into a conversation about the history of the subgenre, the fine art of stealing footage, why low-budget filmmaking can be charming, and exactly how Sharknado managed to miss the entire point. Later, Esmeralda Leon joins Nick to clean out the voicemail bag and wander into the graveyard of celebrity talk shows no one remembers, including brief, strange detours hosted by Martin Short and Zach Galifianakis. Things wrap up with shared memories of attending tapings of The Jenny Jones Show, which were exactly as chaotic and ill-advised as you would expect. It's trash cinema, forgotten TV, and bad decisions, all handled with pride. [Ep 422]

The Men of Micheaux debut their new home at Anga Studios, planting their flag (and feet) on new territory. Listeners, aka Missionaries, have the Men analyzing the careers of Gabrielle Union and Robin Williams (one is more meh than you think, and it ain't hers). Going Six Degrees of D'urville Martin to Z-actors Zach Galifianakis and Zazie Beetz lands the show in the lap of Chevy Chase (OUCH!), but the Men end things delighted by the tantalizingly funny ZOLA, featuring another tour-de-force performance by Micheaux Mission favorite Taylour Paige. On this episode of CORNDOWN, I explore the idea of doing things in threes and spend some time trying to protect products, with whuppy and buccshot adding their own takes. We spend a lot of time estimating and assessing, which very naturally leads into things like potato hands and hotel transcripts. Totally normal, I promise. Towards the end, I do some Beyoncés, Tiff extracts crititical corporate espionage information, and we recieve concerning mysterious emails, which possibly should not be believed. Jame closes it out with a looping situation that feels like we've been down this path before. But it’s NORMAL. This show is made possible by donations from listeners like you.
