2012 was a crazy year for the Red Sox! It saw them trade Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, Nick Punto, and Kevin Youkilis over the course of the season. It also saw them finish with a record of 69-93. Despite all the struggled and trades, there was one player who broke into the show and showed out. Look back as we reminisce on Will Middlebrooks' pretty good 2012 rookie season.
From 'Baseball Isn't Boring' (subscribe here): Nick Punto knows what's what when it comes to life as a Philadelphia Phillie. He also knows what it's like to go on a World Series run. That's why the former big leaguer is once again the perfect guy for Rob Bradford to catch up with as we head into the League Championship Series. There are stories. There is perspective (including a back-and-forth on the media in the clubhouse.) And there is a plea for Phillies owner John Middleton to take up one of Punto's traditions. Nat, Mike and Dan have returned to Camden and it only takes them 45 seconds before the arguments start. Luckily, Marek Larwood is back from his run at the Edinburgh Festival and he gets it even earlier... In other news: Preseason is over! We spent the entire hour talking about the Twins and it was as depressing, hopeless and ranty as you'd expect. We reviewed the terrible offseason, claimed our annual bros & turds and then predicted the wins total. Some quotes: "Who the shit is JR Graham?" "Nick Punto exists to be accidentally punched" "A touch of Rob Deer" "Ozzie's getting an ice cream helmet" "What I'm hoping for is a bunch of injuries" "The inexplicability of some of these...(20-second sigh)" Things got dark in a hurry and never turned around. Move along, optimists. Nothing to see here. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Alex interviews MLB.com Red Sox reporter Ian Browne, and they discuss the tone of the Red Sox's offseason thus far. Has too much importance been placed on the "Red Sox Nation" branding efforts? Are the Red Sox really serious about not bypassing the luxury tax, and if they are, how will they be able to do it? Alex and Ian also talk about the implications of David Ortiz accepting arbitration and whether Daniel Bard best fits in the rotation or the bullpen to begin 2012. Alex gives his own take on the Mark Melancon trade and Nick Punto signing...were these moves worth the wait? How else will the Red Sox look to round out their roster (more specifically, the end of the bullpen)? In the "Around the League" segment, Alex analyzes the Mat Latos trade and says that the Padres have quietly enjoyed a highly productive offseason. Jimmy Rollins resigning with the Phillies, Michael Cuddyer signing with the Rockies, and other offseason moves are touched upon too. Plus, Barry Bonds was "sentenced" this week. Except, it was more of a "tap on the wrist" more than anything... Post on the message boards at www.thesportsstuff.com/boards where signing up is free, quick, and easy.
