In this episode, Jeremy Lee continues the conversation with David Chase after the now infamous missed bid on a Jackie Robinson card and explores a side of the story that had not been fully addressed yet: what about the seller? If a valid high bid was blocked by eBay's internal safeguard system, did the seller lose out on thousands of dollars? Jeremy and David dig into the implications for major cards sold on eBay, the risks for consignors, and why this kind of issue could make sellers think twice about where they move high end material. The episode also includes more hobby discussion around vintage market strength, eye appeal, and the current state of shows and cards across the hobby. There is also a quick run through of the latest Collector Investor Auctions lineup, with Jeremy highlighting the eclectic mix of vintage, modern, sports, and non sports material in the sale. Later, Joey from Hoops Hobby Hangout joins the show to share his collecting background and the origin story behind his basketball focused content channel. The conversation covers his path from Yu Gi Oh and fantasy sports into Kings collecting, modern basketball cards, and eventually content creation inspired by the kinds of hobby conversations he wanted to see more of. It is a thoughtful look at how communities form, why people start creating content, and what it means to build something for the love of the hobby rather than for numbers. If you enjoy hobby conversation that mixes market issues, collector psychology, and community building, please follow the podcast, leave a rating or review, and share this episode with a fellow collector. THE HORROR ON THE GROUND IN TOKYO Colleague James M. Scott. The raid began just after midnight, catching families asleep. The napalm bombs were designed to puncture roofs and spray fire inside homes, turning the wooden city into kindling. The resulting firestorm created a tidal wave of flame that moved across the city, blocked escape routes, and melted the glass of concrete buildings, killing those sheltering inside. Survivors, including a young girl named Shizuko Nishio, fled through an apocalyptic landscape. Photographer Koyo Ishikawa documented the event, describing the fire as a "surf wave" approaching from the ocean. NUMBER 6 1945 OKINAWA

Ian endured a level of trauma in his youth that few survive. A childhood marked by suffering propelled him onto the streets, where violence, chaos, and the instinct to survive became his daily reality. His formative years were shaped by juvenile detention centers, fire camps, lockdowns, and a gang mentality—along with the relentless shadow of PTSD.He believed his future was destined for a prison cell, convinced that his story had already been written. Then, life intervened, and he realized that true survival required transformation. Ian turned away from a life of crime and found purpose in service as a firefighter. The same determination that had kept him alive on the streets he now applied to rising above his circumstances. Over time, he earned the rank of captain in Cal Fire.Yet the cumulative toll of first-responder trauma, coupled with the scars of his past, eventually caught up with him. Through counseling, faith in Christ, and resilience, Ian discovered healing, renewed purpose, and a voice. Today, he hopes to use it to inspire and support others navigating trauma, new recruits and anyone who will listen. #streetgospelpodcast #faith #healing #sunday #iangovernale #calfire #firefighter #trauma #overcoming #truestory #firefighter

On today's She Rises episode, we take a closer look at Alexandra Cooper, the polarising voice who shook up the podcast world, landed multi-million-dollar deals, and proved that being bold, unapologetic, and multifaceted is a strength, not a weakness. We share what makes her different, the power of having an insatiable drive, and why successful women are often the ones willing to be “too much.” Alongside her story, we open up about our own struggles, fears of not being taken seriously, feeling like we have to wear different hats, and the pressure to tone ourselves down to be accepted. From silly to serious, sexual to professional, this episode is about breaking free of those limiting beliefs and owning every side of yourself without apology.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

HardLore is joined by AFI vocalist Davey Havok in person at Brain Dead Studios for a landmark episode, weeks before the release of their new album "Silver Bleeds the Black Sun" on Run For Cover Records.Part 1 of this 4+ hour conversation begins with Davey's origin to punk/hardcore music, and by association, straight edge and veganism. We thoroughly dive into AFI's chronology, beginning in 1991 when he started the band with drummer Adam Carson in high school, to all the twists and turns before finally adding long time bass player Hunter Burgan, and the guitar player that would ultimately define the AFI sound: Jade Puget. We discuss "Answer That and Stay Fashionable", frustrations with Nitro Records throughout "Very Proud of Ya", "Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes" and beyond, fully coming into their own with "Black Sails in the Sunset", wearing their love of the Misfits on their sleeves on the "A Fire Inside" & "All Hallows" EPs, "The Art of Drowning" being their first record to chart on Billboard, his experience making the Son of Sam record with the 2000 lineup of Samhain just a few years before "Sing the Sorrow" would take over the world, the severe damage done to his voice by singing in his iconic incomparable register throughout the past three decades, and much, MUCH more.We hope you enjoy part 1 of this incredible conversation and we thank Davey for his time, and Brain Dead for the space. Brenna and Joe return to inspirational sports movies with The Fire Inside (2024), but this is secretly two movies in one! The first is the story of Clarissa "T-Rex" Shields fighting for boxing gold at the Olympics; the second is what happens upon her return to Flint, Michigan.Anchored by two stellar performances from Ryan Destiny and Brian Tyree Henry, we prefer the second, more interesting movie and speculate the stronger film that could have been if writer Barry Jenkins and director Rachel Morrison had just avoided the familiar, trope-y underdog part altogether.Wanna connect with the show? She would study the names of songwriters on albums, dreaming of seeing her own name there one day. This early passion and determination set her on a path to becoming one of the most successful songwriters in the industry. Despite the challenges faced by women in the music industry, Diane never let her gender define her capabilities. Inspired by trailblazers like Carole King, she pursued her career with confidence, never doubting her potential to succeed as a songwriter. Collaboration with artists like Mergui showcases Diane and Mergui's ability to adapt and thrive in different musical genres. Diane’s intuitive sense for matching songs with the right artists has led to successful partnerships, allowing her to continue creating timeless music across various styles. It’s important for songwriters to find the right artist to sing and produce their songs, someone who will honor and preserve the meaning and the music. That’s when the magic happens. She has penned nine #1 and thirty-three top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and is tied for having written the most #1 songs as a sole writer in Billboard history. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2001 and received the prestigious Johnny Mercer Award from the organization in June 2024. She has received 16 Academy Award nominations, is a GRAMMY winner with 15 nominations, an EMMY winner, and is a two-time Golden Globe winner whose songs have been featured in more than 150 films. In November 2022, Warren became the first songwriter in history to receive an Honorary Oscar, as voted on by the Academy's Board of Governors. She recently wrote the original song "The Fire Inside," performed by Becky G for the film Flamin' Hot, directed by Eva Longoria, which marked her 15th Oscar nomination. She most recently wrote the original song “The Journey” performed by H.E.R. for the feature film The Six Triple Eight directed by Tyler Perry which marked her 16th Oscar nomination. She is the sole owner of her publishing company Realsongs, the most successful female-owned and operated business in the music industry. Warren is a recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a nod to her legendary career, having worked with many of today's most popular artists, including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, H.E.R., Snoop Dogg, Paloma Faith, Jon Batiste, Maren Morris, John Legend, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Andra Day, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson and Janelle Monáe, in addition to having written songs for iconic artists such as Whitney Houston, Cher, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, and many more. Mergui has made it his mission to push the limits of modern pop music. He’s accomplished some incredible feats such as opening for Bruno Mars and Maroon 5. His talent has been recognized by publications such as Rolling Stone, Billboard, Wonderland Magazine, and Notion. Drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of early 20th-century Italian opera and the nostalgic allure of ‘70s AM pop, Mergui’s sophomore EP Shadows of Blue was a remarkable fusion of influences. Notable tracks from the EP include the Elton John-approved “Cry,” and “Happy Now?”, which he performed on The Kelly Clarkson Show and NBC’s The TODAY Show, resulting in the track skyrocketing to the Top 10 on the U.S. iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts. Mergui’s music has been featured in top-notch editorial playlists across digital service platforms including Spotify’s New Music Friday (US & Global), Chill Pop, New Pop Picks, and Just Good Music. Mergui’s unguarded sense of vulnerability shines through in his art, landing him a coveted spot on People Magazine’s Emerging Artists of 2024 list. Following a successful tour with Forest Blakk and a collaboration with Sam Feldt in the latter half of 2024, Mergui is ready to take 2025 by storm with the release of his latest EP Nobody Really Knows.
The Fire Inside is the true story of Claressa "T-Rex" Shields, a boxer from Flint, Michigan and her trainer, Jason Crutchfield. She became the first American woman to win Olympic gold in boxing. The Fire Inside is the feature directorial debut for Rachel Morrison, the first woman cinematographer nominated for an Academy Award. Cinematographer Rina Yang, BSC enjoyed the ability to speak with director Rachel Morrison in a shorthand way about shooting the film. “It did help that I've known Rachel for a while, just being female DPs in this boys' game,” she says. “It was nice to be able to skip the tech chat and get to the point, because we had a really insane schedule.” The film's production had faced numerous challenges, having to shut down during COVID in 2020 which halted filming for two years. Once The Fire Inside was greenlit again, they faced an accelerated production schedule in Toronto. Rina prepped by watching a documentary about Claressa Shields called T-Rex and watched all her fights in the 2012 Olympics as references. She and Rachel meticulously shotlisted every scene and entered it into a detailed spreadsheet so that they knew what they needed each day. The Fire Inside focuses on capturing the intensity of Shields' journey, both inside and outside the ring. “Rachel and I talked about how we wanted to shoot the boxing,” Rina explains, “but we decided that ultimately, we just wanted to feel the fight from Claressa's point of view rather than doing cool boxing shots.” This approach led to a raw and intimate portrayal of the sport, emphasizing the emotional and physical toll on Shields. Actor Ryan Destiny underwent rigorous training to perform all the boxing scenes herself, and Rina often opted for handheld cameras to capture the raw energy of the story. Rina and Rachel both operated a few of the boxing scenes. Rina didn't hesitate to tell Rachel how her camerawork was looking. “I was really honest. She would ask if she did a good job. I'd say that was good, or suggest a move that's less active and a little bit more quiet with the camera.” Rina's path to becoming a cinematographer was not a direct one. After moving to London from Japan at 21 with limited English, she decided to pursue film school. While working on a film set, Rina was inspired by Sara Deane, a female cinematographer, and realized that cinematography was her true calling. She subsequently honed her skills through a series of short films, music videos, and commercials. You can see The Fire Inside currently in theaters and streaming on VOD January 28.
