True Salvation is about what God has done, not what we have done
Those who understand the nature of a salvation by grace have nothing in which to boast.
1 Corinthians Series
Our reward for serving God is ultimately the knowledge that we have pleased Him.
Gospel of Grace Fellowship, Sermons (St Louis Park Minnesota)
Holy Spirit inspired Scripture is for our good and benefit, we need to stay within the boundaries set by God in His word.
This series traces the "New Beginning" in God's plan of redemption. Dr. Boice follows the story of the patriarchs, demonstrating along the way how easily we can identify with them. Learn how Abraham grew into a mighty man of faith. And learn from the lessons on faith and judgment in the lives of the next generations - Isaac and Jacob. Romans 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law. One of the sure signs of self-righteousness is bragging about oneself in relation to being a Christian. If someone asked you, “How did you become a believer in Christ,” the answer does not include the good things you have done. The answer is all about what Jesus did for you. We are justified neither by the Old Testament law nor by any other law invented by religion. We are justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law. Jesus made this possible. Reflection Question: What does in mean to be “justified?” Key insight I gained today: Today's action item based on insight:

But therefore also I consider all things to be loss because of the surpassing knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord through whom all things I have suffered loss, and I consider to be refuse, in order that I should gain Christ, Philippians 3:8
If we are not careful much of our gospel preaching and daily life will be filled with ways to better ourselves either to get saved or to live each day. This, however, is not the point of the Gospel of grace nor is it the point to everyday life. God removed our sins completely through Christ (as shown in the gospel) in order to walk along with us everyday in this journey, not to punish us when we sin but to teach us through his loving presence and training. When it comes to our salvation, we can contribute nothing. There will be no boasting allowed.
This is a “Wednesday Wisdom” episode of “This is Gonna Hurt”. In our Wednesday Wisdom episodes, we post sermons from Gordon’s preaching at Evident Grace Fellowship (www.evidentgrace.com) in Fredericksburg, VA. In this episode, Gordon pursues the Big Idea: The Standard is the Standard from Romans 2.12-24. You can find notes from this sermon below. Thanks for listening. If you want to know more about Evident Grace Fellowship, you can find them at www.evidentgrace.com. If you want to find out more about what Gordon is up to, check out his website at www.jgordonduncan.com. Thanks for listening. Big Idea: The Standard is the Standard Our Need is Universal Romans 2:12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) Jesus’ Words Save and Condemn 16 This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares. There is No Boasting 17 Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God; 18 if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law; 19 if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark, 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— 21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? 22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? 24 As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” Big Idea: The Standard is the Standard Truth: Christians stand as humble demonstrations of how God’s grace meets the universal need for forgiveness. God’s call to faith and repentance is the call of life itself. Application: In light of the command not to boast, live knowing that God enables the change in your life just much as He enabled the forgiveness of your sins. Action: Pray for personal a repentance and holiness that grows into a fervent proclamation of the Gospel. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thisisgonnahurt/support
God not only establishes His righteous standard but that when He saves sinners, He makes them new in Jesus Christ.
I boast over really small accomplishments in my life. But I do know there's one thing I definitely cannot boast about - my salvation - because it wasn't even a little bit my doing. Like Ephesians 2:8-9, I say it's all because of God through Jesus.
In Romans, why does Paul say we shouldn’t boast? If we do boast, what does that reveal to us about ourselves? Why didn’t Abraham boast? And if Abraham didn’t boast, what can we learn from him?
God has confounded the wise men of the world at every turn in the road. And He has certainly done this in the way He has chosen to save the human race - through a man dying on a cross! The Jew stumbles all over this idea - "Cursed!" he says. The Greek says it makes no sense - "Foolish!" But the Christ of God dying on a cross is the wisdom and power of God - so that no one may boast of anything before Him. Praise God!
