Why God Laughs: Confidence in the King

The King is already crowned. His victory is already sealed. Stand tall in His triumph. #daybydaylw Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ Why does God laugh? Because He has already installed His King—Jesus. His purposes will not fail. No rebellion can dethrone Him. No uprising can unsettle Him. Jesus reigns. Psalm 2 shifts from rebellion to resolution. God says, “I have set My King on Zion.” It's not a plan; it's a done deal. Jesus has been enthroned through His resurrection and ascension. Every knee will bow. Every tongue will confess. It's inevitable. Clif Johnson emphasizes: we live in the already-but-not-yet tension. Christ reigns now, but His final visible kingdom is still unfolding. Our job? Spread His reign by proclaiming His gospel. Live unshaken. Worship with confidence. Press on with hope. When anxiety rises—about politics, culture, the future—Psalm 2 calls us to remember: the King is already on the throne. And we belong to Him. Prayer Points: King Jesus, anchor my heart in the certainty of Your reign. Help me live like someone who serves a victorious King, not a defeated one. Use me to advance Your kingdom, one act of love, truth, and courage at a time. 2 People To Pray For Regino Acuna and his family, our National Changemakers in Paraguay The Fipa Lifeword broadcast for the people of Tanzania Summary: The King is already crowned. There's no neutral ground with Jesus. Bow now in worship, or bow later in regret. #daybydaylw Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ After laying out the rebellion of the nations and the laughter of heaven, Psalm 2 ends with a call: Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son. In ancient culture, kissing a king's hand or feet was a sign of homage and loyalty. To "kiss the Son" means to bow the knee now in willing surrender before He comes in judgment. This isn't just a message for ancient kings. It's for us. We've all rebelled. We all must heed the warning. Submission to Christ isn't optional; it's urgent. Clif Johnson reminds us: Psalm 2 isn't just warning others out there—it's calling us to respond personally. The mercy is immense ("Blessed are all who take refuge in Him"), but so is the danger ("Kiss the Son, lest He be angry"). This is no time for lukewarm half-measures. It's full-hearted surrender or self-chosen ruin. Prayer Points: Jesus, teach me to serve You with reverent joy and trembling wonder. Let my life be a visible kiss of allegiance to You every day. Keep me from cold, casual Christianity—ignite deep devotion. 2 People To Pray For Pablo Munoz and his family, our National Changemakers in Chile The Fante Lifeword broadcast for the people of Ghana Summary: There's no neutral ground with Jesus. Plotting Against God: A Losing Battle

Human rebellion may roar loud, but God's reign remains undefeated, and so must our surrender. #daybydaylw Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ Psalm 2 shows us humanity's default posture toward God—rebellion. Nations rage, kings take counsel, rulers plot. The Hebrew word for "plot" means to mutter or murmur under your breath—like conspirators huddling in a dark alley, scheming how to throw off God's reign. Why this anger? Why this stubbornness? Verse 3 tells us: they see God's authority as bondage. They see His laws, His standards, His goodness—and call it chains. They don't want a King; they want autonomy. But rebellion against God isn't just the posture of ancient kings or modern nations—it's also the bent of our own hearts. We resist authority. We want to call the shots. Psalm 2 doesn't just describe "them"; it diagnoses "us." Clif Johnson reminds us that this psalm first applied to David and Israel—but ultimately points to Christ. Herod and Pontius Pilate, Jews and Gentiles alike, united against Jesus, fulfilling this ancient rage. And yet, even their rebellion was folded into God's redemptive plan. Prayer Points: Father, reveal areas in my heart where I still resist Your authority. Forgive me for calling Your good boundaries "chains." Teach me to delight in Your reign rather than resist it. 2 People To Pray For Marco Gaspar and his family, our National Changemakers in Portugal The Ewe Lifeword broadcast for the people of Benin, Ghana & Togo Summary: Human rebellion may roar loud, but God's reign remains undefeated—and so must our surrender.

When the world seems out of control, remember: God isn't worried, He's working. #daybydaylw Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ Have you ever scrolled through the news and felt like the world is spinning out of control? Psalm 2 captures that feeling perfectly. Nations rage. Peoples plot. Leaders unite in rebellion. It's not just political; it's deeply spiritual. Their cry? “Let us burst God's bonds apart and cast away His cords!” It's easy to get rattled by the chaos. But Scripture lifts our eyes higher. While earth trembles in rebellion, heaven reverberates with laughter. God is not pacing the floors of heaven, wringing His hands. He is enthroned, undisturbed, sovereign. Clif Johnson reminds us: God laughs because He knows the end of the story. Every rebellious scheme, every arrogant ruler, every attempt to dethrone God—already accounted for, already defeated. Acts 4:28 makes it plain: all the plotting only accomplishes God's predestined purposes. When we're tempted to fear, Psalm 2 invites us to trust. When the world feels unstable, the throne of heaven remains unshaken. Prayer Points: Lord, help me lift my eyes above the raging nations to Your unshakable throne. Teach me to trust Your sovereignty when fear whispers otherwise. Fill me with peace that comes from knowing You are laughing, not panicking. 2 People To Pray For Milan Bulak, our National Changemaker in the Czech Republic Enzima/Nzema Lifeword broadcast for the people of Ghana & Ivory Coast Summary: When the world seems out of control, remember: God isn't worried—He's working.

When we look back on the cross, we can recognize that it is where mercy met misery. #daybydaylw Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ At David's altar on Araunah's threshing floor, the sacrifice is made, and the plague stops. But this isn't just a moment of relief—it's a pointer to a greater story. This same plot of land will become the foundation for Solomon's Temple. And long before that, Abraham nearly sacrificed Isaac here, only to have God provide a substitute. In every case—Abraham, David, Solomon—the message is the same: judgment is real, but God provides a substitute. He stays the knife. He relents from the plague. He makes a way. But on Good Friday, God did not stay His hand. On a hill just outside this area, the Father unleashed His wrath on His own Son. Jesus became the final, sufficient sacrifice. No more temporary relief—eternal redemption. Every time David looked back at Araunah's threshing floor, he could say, “That's where mercy met misery.” And every time we look back at the cross, we can say the same thing. Prayer Points: Thank You, Father, that You provided a final, perfect substitute in Jesus. Help me to live in daily awe of the mercy You have shown. Even the best men have faults, but Jesus ascended as the Man and King with no fault. #daybydaylw Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ David, despite his flaws, points us to something greater. His humility after failure, his intercession for the people, his costly worship—all these highlight why he was a good king. Yet David's goodness has limits. He sins. He fails. He needs mercy himself. This final chapter of Samuel whispers for something more: a greater King. One who would not just intercede but bear the full penalty. One whose obedience would be perfect, whose mercy would be unending. Jesus is the better David. Where David sinned, Jesus obeyed. Where David offered symbolic sacrifices, Jesus became the sacrifice. Where David's mercy spared a city, Jesus' mercy spares the world. Prayer Points: Jesus, thank You for being the flawless King David could only foreshadow. This mirrors an earlier story in 2 Samuel 21 where famine was halted after an act of intercession. God responds to heartfelt repentance, to true worship. Our God is not distant. He hears. He moves. His mercies are not stingy. They are vast, immediate, and rich for those who cry out to Him. This is the God we pray to. The God whose heart is tender toward the broken. The God whose ear is tuned to the humble. Prayer Points: Lord, remind me that You hear and respond when I cry out to You. Give me the faith to believe Your mercy is always near to the repentant. Though it may look different at different times, there is always a cost to worshipful obedience. #daybydaylw Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ When David approaches Araunah to buy the threshing floor for an altar, Araunah generously offers it all for free—land, oxen, wood. But David refuses. "I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing." David understood something many today miss: worship without sacrifice is hollow. Real worship requires something costly. It mirrors the costly mercy we have received. Worship that doesn't cost me something—comfort, convenience, pride—isn't worship; it's self-congratulation. David's purchase and offering were tangible acts that said, “God, You are worth everything to me.” Today, the cost might look different: forgiving someone who hurt you, giving generously even when it pinches, surrendering a dream, obeying when it hurts. Each costly act says to God, “You are worth it.” This threshing floor becomes sacred space. Solomon would later build the Temple here. The small cost David paid points forward to the infinite cost Christ paid—His life for ours. Prayer Points: Jesus, teach me to give You my best, not my leftovers. Show me today what costly obedience looks like. But David refuses: “I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God that cost me nothing.” David understood worship isn't about convenience. True worship costs something—it demands something personal, something surrendered. We live in a world that offers easy spirituality: worship without sacrifice, obedience without cost. But David's example reminds us: God's worth demands our everything. The price David paid was small compared to the mercy he had received. And the price we pay in following Jesus is small compared to the grace that bought us. Prayer Points: Jesus, let my worship be costly and sincere, not cheap and convenient. "It is enough; now stay your hand," God commands. The justice of God is real. Sin has consequences. But mercy triumphs. Mercy interrupts destruction. David sees the devastation and pleads, "Let Your hand be against me, not these sheep." A king willing to stand in the gap for his people—that's a glimpse of Jesus, our true King. The plague stops because mercy steps in. And ultimately, at Calvary, the greater plague of sin is stopped the same way—because mercy bore the wrath we deserved. God is holy, and His judgments are righteousness, but His mercy is tender. #daybydaylw Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ After David confesses his sin, God offers him three options of judgment: famine, fleeing, or plague. Each one would cost lives. David's response is striking—he chooses to fall into the hands of the Lord. Why? Because he knows something many of us forget: God's mercy is greater than man's cruelty. So the plague sweeps through the land. Seventy thousand die. It's horrifying. But as the angel stretches his hand toward Jerusalem, God intervenes. The text says the Lord “relented concerning the calamity.” Mercy interrupts judgment. Grace stays the angel's sword. This moment shines a light on the heart of God. He is holy and just—and yet abounding in steadfast love. His judgments are righteous, but His mercies are tender. David banked on that truth. And he was not disappointed. We live under the mercy bought by Christ. Jesus absorbed the full justice of God so that when we sin, we can still fall into God's hands with hope. Prayer Points: Lord, let me trust Your mercy when I'm most aware of my failures. Thank You that Your heart bends toward compassion, even in discipline. We do not have to fear the judgment of our merciful God. #daybydaylw Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ Through the prophet Gad, God gives David three options for judgment: three years of famine, three months fleeing before enemies, or three days of plague. David's response is one of the most beautiful moments of faith in this chapter: "Let us fall into the hand of the LORD, for His mercy is great." David knows something critical about God: even when God disciplines, He disciplines with mercy. Fallen into the hands of men, cruelty would reign. Fallen into the hands of God, mercy mingles with justice. This truth frees us: we don't have to fear the judgment of our merciful God. His hands, even when heavy, are not cruel. They are scarred hands—pierced for our sins. Prayer Points: Lord, let me trust Your mercy more than I fear Your discipline. Help me believe that even in my failures, You are still my safest refuge. Reflection: 2 Samuel 23 closes like a battle scroll—names and stories of those who stood with David. Some risked their lives, others simply held the line, but all were remembered. And the question comes to us: will we be counted among them? Courageous faith isn't just for warriors in ancient days. It's for students who stand for Christ in their schools. It's for businesspeople who refuse to compromise. It's for parents raising kids in truth. It's for elderly saints still praying and serving. It's for you. The same Spirit that filled David's mighty men fills every believer today. And the King we serve? He's greater than David. His kingdom will never fall. His rewards are eternal. So don't lose heart. Whether listed first or last, their courage wasn't for their own name—it was for David and for Israel. And today, every act of faith, whether grand or small, is meant to serve the glory of King Jesus. God doesn't call everyone to fight lions or stand in bean fields. Reflection: The final section of this chapter is a long list of names—names of men who fought, bled, and sacrificed for the kingdom. Many of them we know little about. But God knows. And God records. This list reminds us that no act of faithfulness goes unseen. These men may not have killed lions or made daring water runs, but they stood their ground. They followed their king. And their names are forever etched in Scripture. There are many faithful servants today whose names may never be known to the world, but they are known to God. Nursery workers, intercessors, encouragers, givers—these mighty men and women serve without applause. But in heaven, they are honored. Benaiah fought a lion in a snowy pit and killed an Egyptian warrior with his own spear. These were not side characters. They were warriors in their own right. And yet, the text tells us, “they did not attain to the three.” That could feel like a slight, but it's not. Instead, it's a reminder that God assigns different roles in the kingdom—and all are valuable. Abishai and Benaiah weren't less faithful or less courageous. They were simply called to serve in different places. Their reward wasn't in a title—it was in their obedience. This is so important for us to grasp. You may not hold the microphone. You may not be the one in front. But your place in God's kingdom is no less significant. Faithfulness where God has placed you is the mark of courageous faith. Reflection: This story of the three mighty men fetching water from a well in enemy-occupied Bethlehem is one of the most stunning displays of loyalty and love in all of Scripture. They heard David's longing—not even a command, just a wish—and acted on it with fearless resolve. But what happens next is equally powerful. David refuses to drink the water and instead pours it out—to the Lord. At first glance, that may seem disrespectful to the men. But David wasn't being dismissive—he was being reverent. He was saying, “I am not worthy of this sacrifice. Only God is.” David's leadership didn't turn the spotlight on himself—it turned it to God. This is courageous leadership. True leaders tremble at the weight of responsibility. They see the sacrifices of others and are moved—not to take credit, but to give glory. They turn hearts upward. Reflection: We are told that these mighty men of David fought overwhelming enemies—Philistines, Moabites, Egyptians—and stood firm when no one else would. But even in their faith and courage, we see a foreshadowing of someone greater. Jesus, the Son of David, fought the ultimate battle—not against flesh and blood, but against sin and death itself. And unlike David's men, we didn't stand with Him. We fled. He fought alone and won. Jesus didn't just overcome external enemies—He conquered our internal enemy: sin. And He didn't do it to hand the sword back to us and say, “You finish the job.” He did it so we would trust Him daily for strength to overcome temptation and live in His victory. As believers, we still face battles, but we do so in the armor of the King who fights for us. This means your spiritual battles today—against anger, pride, addiction, despair—are not yours to win alone. They are fought in the strength of the Lord. Reflection: When we read about Josheb-basshebeth, Eleazar, and Shammah—the "Big Three"—it's easy to be impressed by their battlefield resumes. One killed 800 in a single encounter. Another fought so long that his hand froze to the sword. Another stood his ground in a bean field when everyone else fled. These men were courageous, relentless, and impressive. But the writer of 2 Samuel doesn't let us stay there. Twice, in verses 10 and 12, we are reminded that “the LORD brought about a great victory.” This is no small detail. These mighty men didn't win because of sheer talent or muscle—they won because God acted through them. These were God's victories, granted through the courageous faith of His servants. And that's the point. It's not about the sword or the spear. It's about faith that says, “I will stand, even when outnumbered, because God is with me.” Like David facing Goliath, the odds didn't matter. What mattered was trusting that the battle belonged to the Lord. This is true for us too. When the enemy seems stronger—whether it's sin, fear, or temptation—we remember: God is still the one who wins the fight. Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ Scripture: 2 Samuel 23:8–12 Theme: Courageous faith spreads and strengthens others. Reflection: We love stories of courage and brotherhood—whether it's soldiers on the battlefield or faithful friends in the trenches of life. In 2 Samuel 23:8-12, we're introduced to the mighty men of David. These were warriors of grit and resolve, but more than that, they were men shaped by a leader with courageous faith. Like Richard Winters and his men in Band of Brothers, these men were forged in the fires of adversity, bound together by a vision greater than themselves. David, in contrast to Saul, was a leader who inspired loyalty—not through fear but through his walk with God. Courageous faith has a contagious quality. It spreads. David believed in God's promises and fought in righteous battles, and that courage overflowed to his men. They did not fight for personal glory but for the honor of the Lord and the welfare of Israel. Faith that is real doesn't hide in a corner. It stands up, and when it does, it strengthens the spine of others around it. Billy Graham once said, “When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.” This is the call to us: to stand in bold faith so that others may do the same. Your courage could be the catalyst for someone else's obedience. Prayer Points: Ask God to strengthen your faith so it inspires others. Pray for courage to take righteous stands in a fearful world. Ask the Lord to surround you with others who pursue godly courage. 2 People to pray for Larry & Tammy Wood, our European Coordinator The Polish Lifeword broadcast for the people of Poland Summary: Courageous faith doesn't stand alone—it multiplies, strengthens others, and advances the kingdom.

Like the promise in Revelation, "Behold, I come quickly," we await the morning of joy when Christ returns to reign in fullness. The darkness of this present age will not last forever. Just as the night gives way to dawn, the troubles of this world will one day be replaced with the glorious light of Christ's eternal reign. The return of Christ is not just a theological concept; it is the greatest hope of the believer. Every tear will be wiped away, every injustice made right, and every longing fulfilled in His presence. As we await that day, we are called to live with expectancy. Just as travelers eagerly watch for the first glimpse of the sunrise, so should we anticipate Christ's return. His coming will be sudden, but it will also be joyful. For those who belong to Him, it will be the fulfillment of every promise and the beginning of an eternity in His presence. The trials and sufferings of this life will be forgotten in the overwhelming joy of His glorious kingdom. 3 Prayer Points: Thank God for the hope of Christ's return. No matter how difficult life has been, we can rest in the fact that our future is secure in Christ's kingdom. Faithfulness to God does not mean a trouble-free life. David's story is one of both triumph and hardship. Yet, his confidence was in the unshakable truth that God's kingdom would endure. This is the same hope we hold today. Many believers struggle with the weight of trials, wondering if their suffering has meaning. But David's perspective reminds us that God's faithfulness transcends our circumstances. Every challenge we face is temporary in light of eternity. The kingdom of God is advancing, and those who remain steadfast in faith will one day see its full reality. We must anchor our hope in God's promises, trusting that His rule will bring ultimate justice, peace, and joy. Just as David found comfort in looking forward to what God had promised, so too can we find strength in anticipating the fulfillment of His kingdom. 3 Prayer Points: Praise God for the assurance of our future. David's words in 2 Samuel 23:7 remind us of a coming kingdom where judgment is certain. We must live in readiness, knowing that the righteous King will soon return. The kingdom of God is closer than we often realize. Every day is an opportunity to align our lives with His will. Jesus' return is not a distant event, but an imminent reality. Living with this awareness transforms our priorities, pushing us to seek righteousness and share the gospel with urgency. The Bible frequently calls believers to be vigilant, like watchmen waiting for the morning. Just as a farmer prepares for harvest, we must prepare our hearts for Christ's return. The certainty of His coming should not create fear but anticipation and motivation for holy living. It is easy to become distracted by the world's concerns, but the nearness of Christ's return calls us to be faithful stewards of our time, resources, and relationships. Let us not grow complacent but remain diligent in living as citizens of His kingdom, proclaiming His message to those who do not yet know Him. 3 Prayer Points: Ask for readiness for Christ's return. Rejecting the reign of Christ leads to destruction. The kingdom has borders, and only those who acknowledge Jesus as King will enter. Many in the world resist Christ's authority, believing they can rule their own lives. But this passage warns that rejection of God's kingdom results in separation and judgment. True freedom is found in submission to Christ, not in self-rule. Thorns are not only useless but also harmful. Farmers do not cultivate thorns; they remove them to prevent destruction to themselves. Similarly, those who reject God's truth and oppose His kingdom will be cast out. The world promotes self-reliance and rebellion against divine authority, but the end of such a path is separation from God. Scripture is clear that Christ will separate those who belong to Him from those who persist in rejecting Him. It is a sobering reality, but one that should motivate us to seek Him earnestly and call others to repentance. We must evaluate our lives—are we truly surrendered to Christ, or are we living in ways that reject His authority? 3 Prayer Points: Pray for a heart fully surrendered to Christ's reign. Despite the failures in his reign, David trusts that God's promises will stand. Our faith must rest in the certainty of God's word, not our circumstances. Life is unpredictable, and human promises are often broken. Yet, God's covenant stands firm. When He makes a promise, it is eternal. The covenant with David points forward to the ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the King who reigns forever. As we navigate life's uncertainties, we can rest in knowing that God's plans for redemption and restoration are unshakable. David had seen both the highs and lows of leadership. He experienced the blessings of God but also endured deep personal failures. Yet, he knew that God's promises were greater than his mistakes. This same truth applies to us. Our salvation does not rest on our own efforts but on the faithfulness of God. No matter how unstable life may seem, we can trust that God's promises remain secure. His kingdom is not dependent on human ability, but on His divine will, which will be fulfilled in its entirety. 3 Prayer Points: Praise God for His unchanging promises. The reign of Jesus Christ is our ultimate source of life and nourishment. Abiding in Him ensures spiritual vitality and growth. Without light and water, the earth becomes barren. Likewise, without Christ's rule in our lives, we wither spiritually. The righteousness of Christ provides the life we need to thrive. When we submit to His authority, we experience true peace and joy, knowing that His reign is one of justice, mercy, and provision. This metaphor reminds us of how much we need Jesus daily. Just as a plant cannot thrive without sunlight and water, we cannot grow spiritually apart from Christ. This reminds us that it is not our own efforts that determine our place in God's plan, but His divine calling. Just as the sun brings forth life, so does the rule of a righteous King. David's rise to power is a profound example of how God's purposes prevail. He was the least expected candidate—merely a shepherd boy—but God saw in him a heart of obedience. This is a comforting truth for us today. We may feel insignificant or unqualified, yet God uses the weak to demonstrate His power. When we submit to His leading, He raises us up in ways beyond our comprehension. Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly chooses the least likely people to accomplish His work. Moses, who doubted his speaking ability, became the leader of Israel's exodus. Gideon, who saw himself as weak, was chosen to defeat an entire army with a small group of men. The apostle Peter, who denied Christ, was restored to lead the early church. God's way of working is different from human wisdom. He does not call based on ability, but rather on His sovereign purpose. If you feel overlooked or insignificant, remember that God sees you and can lift you up in ways you never imagined. 3 Prayer Points: Thank God for His calling and elevation in your life. His reign as king, though marked by misery and sorrow, is overshadowed by the hope of a righteous King to come and an eternal kingdom. The human heart often clings to the past, dwelling on mistakes and losses, but David's perspective is forward-looking. This is a testament to the transformative power of God's promises. As believers, we can find ourselves bogged down by the hardships of life—our own failures, the brokenness of the world, and the disappointments we face. He was looking ahead—to the eternal King who would come from his lineage. This is where David's song becomes Jesus' song. Jesus is the greater David—the anointed one who would bring not just military victories, but eternal salvation. He would not just be delivered from death—He would defeat death itself. The steadfast love of God to David was ultimately fulfilled in Christ, who now rules and reigns forever. And here's the challenge for us: Are we leaving a legacy of worship like David did? David didn't just worship in private—his life and his kingdom were built around the exclusive worship of God. His faithfulness to proclaim who God is ensured that future generations would know the greatness of the Lord. What about us? Are we teaching our children and grandchildren to worship God boldly? Are we pointing others to the true King, Jesus Christ? Is our life building a foundation of faithfulness for the next generation? David left a legacy of worship. Is it a song of complaint and bitterness—a constant focus on your problems? Is it a song of self-sufficiency—boasting in what you have accomplished? Is it a song of silence—refusing to acknowledge what God has done? David's song was a song of God's faithfulness. His life was a testimony to the power, mercy, and deliverance of God. If someone were to listen to the way you live, the way you speak, the way you react to struggles—what would they hear? Would they hear a song of trust, of gratitude, of faith? Look at verse 50: “For this I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations, and sing praises to your name.” This isn't a private, quiet, “thank you, God.” This is public, defiant, exclusive worship. David was surrounded by nations who worshiped false gods—nations who trusted in their own strength, their wealth, their armies, and their idols. Yet, David stood boldly in their midst and declared: “Your gods are powerless. There is only one true God—Yahweh.” We need to hear this today. Our culture tells us, “You have your truth, and I have mine.” People want a god that fits their preferences, a god that doesn't demand absolute truth or exclusive worship. But David's song isn't just a personal testimony—it's a declaration of truth to the world. There is no room for lukewarm worship in the kingdom of God. There is no room for half-hearted allegiance. You either declare that Christ is King, or you remain silent. We must be like David and boldly proclaim the supremacy of God. Are you willing to declare, even in a world that rejects truth, that there is no other God but Yahweh? 3 Points of Prayer Lord, give me the courage to worship You boldly, even when it's unpopular. David defeated giants with a sword; Jesus defeated Satan with the Word of God (Matthew 4:1-11). David was a lamp to Israel; Jesus is the Light of the World (John 8:12). David raised up warriors; Jesus raises up disciples to continue His mission (Matthew 28:19-20). David was great, but Jesus is infinitely greater. And here's the good news: Jesus has already won the victory. The battles we fight now are fought with the full assurance that the war has already been won. Points of Prayer Lord, thank You for fighting the battle I could never win. Help me to trust in Your victory rather than trying to fight in my own strength. Teach me to walk in the confidence of Your triumph. 2 People to pray for Regino Acuna and his family, our National Changemakers in Paraguay The Burmese Lifeword broadcast for the people of Myanmar/Burma Summary Thought David was a mighty king. Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ David was more than just a fighter—he was a light to the people of Israel. That's why his men said to him, “You shall no longer go out with us to battle, lest you quench the lamp of Israel.” Think about that. These mighty warriors recognized that David was more than just a king; he was a guiding light for the nation. His leadership, his devotion to God, and his courage shined brightly, illuminating the path forward for Israel. And this isn't just about David. The imagery of light runs throughout the entire Bible. Psalm 119:105 – “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” John 8:12 – “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Matthew 5:14 – “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” David's men weren't just protecting a king; they were protecting a lamp—a light that helped guide the people in righteousness. They knew that without his leadership, Israel would be in the dark. Now, here's the challenge for us: Are we shining as lamps? Does your life bring light to your home? Does your presence bring clarity and guidance to others? Are you pointing people toward God, or leading them into darkness? Perhaps the greatest tragedy isn't when a lamp is extinguished—it's when a lamp refuses to shine in the first place. 3 Points of Prayer Lord, help me to shine as a light in my home, workplace, and community. Keep me from growing dim with discouragement or sin. Let my life point others to You. 2 People to Pray for Pablo Munoz and his family, our National Changemakers in Chile The Bicolano Sorsogon Lifeword broadcast for the people of the Philippines Summary Thought A life lived for Christ is a light in the darkness. Fighting The Right Battles

Not every battle is worth fighting. Spend your strength on the ones that advance God's kingdom, not your own pride. #daybydaylw Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ One thing that stands out in 2 Samuel 21:19-21 is the sheer number of battles being fought. This isn't just one showdown—there are four separate battles recorded, each against a Philistine warrior, each involving a different man of Israel stepping up. This reminds us that life is filled with battles. But not all battles are the right ones. What are you fighting for? David's men fought for Israel, for their people, and for God's honor. They weren't fighting over personal grudges, political opinions, or petty squabbles. They were fighting for something that mattered. Compare this to the battle that Saul and Israel refused to fight against Goliath in 1 Samuel 17. The whole army was paralyzed by fear, unwilling to step up, even though the cause was just. Now, under David's leadership, we see a completely different picture: men who are willing, even eager, to stand in the fight. We, too, are called to fight the right battles. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:12 that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world.” In other words, our fight is not against people—it is against sin, against the enemy, and against the darkness that tries to creep into our lives and homes. How often do we waste our strength fighting the wrong battles? Fighting for our own reputation instead of for God's glory. Fighting for comfort instead of fighting against sin. Fighting with people instead of fighting for their salvation. David's men show us what it looks like to engage in the right fight. The question for us is, Are we fighting the battles that actually matter? Points of Prayer Lord, help me to discern which battles are worth my energy. Give me wisdom to avoid conflicts that are distractions. Strengthen me to fight for truth, righteousness, and Your kingdom. 2 People to pray for Marco Gaspar and his family, our National Changemakers in Portugal The Blaan Lifeword broadcast for the people of the Philippines Summary Thought Not every battle is worth fighting.
