Evil isn't just something “out there”—it's something we must all confront both in the world and in ourselves. Proverbs and Romans remind us that overcoming evil doesn't come from fighting harder or repaying wrongs but by surrendering fully to God. Through Jesus, we overcome evil not with more rebellion, but with goodness, humility, and submission to His authority.
Romans 12:14-21 English Standard Version14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.English Standard Version (ESV)The ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.ESV Text Edition: 2025.

One reason that Solomon was called wise is that he did not ignore the reality of evil in the world. He acknowledged it and lamented it. In a world where overwhelming evil threatens to overcomeus, we are called to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). Jesus was relentless in doinggood: saving, rescuing, forgiving, healing, etc. So let us not grow weary of doing good, for indue season we will reap, if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9).Take-Home Message: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.Do not be overcome by…- The Evil of Oppression (1-3). - Overcome Evil with… - The Good of Biblical Justice.- The Evil of Selfish Ambition (4-12). - Three Approaches to Work - The Competitive Workaholic (4) - The Impoverished Sluggard (5) - The Contented Laborer (6) - Overcome Evil with… - The Good of Biblical Community.- The Evil of Stubbornness (13-16). - Overcome Evil with… - The Good of Biblical Humility.

Continuing Series on Romans Chapter 12
Good morning! Join us this morning as Pastor Josh speaks on "No Room for Enemies: Jesus' Radical Call to Love." How are Christians called to respond to hatred and hostility? In today's message, we explore one of Jesus' most challenging teachings from the Bible: loving your enemies, praying for those who persecute you, and overcoming evil with good. Pastor Josh unpacks passages from Matthew, Luke, Romans, and more to reveal how Jesus redefined relationships, urging us to reject retaliation and instead embrace spiritual warfare against the true enemy—Satan, not people. Through powerful examples from scripture, history, and real-life stories, you'll discover how to live out this radical love in your own life. What does it mean to "turn the other cheek" or "go the extra mile"? How can we rise above division, hate, and team mentalities to build bridges of peace and compassion? Pastor Josh challenges us to break free from the mindset of enmity and reflect God's love to everyone, even those we might consider "enemies." Tune in to be inspired, encouraged, and equipped to live a life marked by extraordinary love. Don't forget to follow our channel for more messages that dive deep into the teachings of the Bible and explore how they guide us as Christians in ministry and daily life. 278 – What do you do when you're overwhelmed with discouragement?I've been talking to a lot of folks who are VERY discouraged by everything that's going on in the world right now.Is there a way to overcome this feeling of despair and discouragement?Yes, of course. And it's encouraging to see all the folks in the Bible who were face with all sorts of discouraging situations and how they overcame them. That's what this week's episode is all about:The turning point for Elijah when he was ready to quitHow Hannah poured out her heart to God in desperation but finally found peaceEven Jesus got discouraged at times because people didn't understand or accept his messageJesus's secret for overcoming discouragementGod's promise to Joshua that banishes discouragementWhen you feel discouraged, be honest about how you feel. Don't pretend to be so holy and spiritually minded that you're not bothered when you are. Even Jesus expressed his discouragement, but he moved quickly from it to complete trust in God each time.Right this moment, you may feel overwhelmed with discouragement, dismay, and despair over what's going on in your life, at work, at church, in your country, or the world. You may be at the height of hopelessness. But also, right in this moment, God is present, His hand full of hope, comfort, and resources, just as He was with the Children of Israel in the wilderness.•••••••••Blog posts and previous episodes mentioned this week:Episode 277: How to Overcome Evil with Good Episode 43: You Can Trust God's Perfect Timing for the Events in Your Life Blog post: God Prepares Your Heart on His Timetable Show notesFull transcript and Bible quotes: Text me your questions or comments.Support the showIf you enjoy the podcast, please rate and leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify__________________James Early, the Jesus Mindset Coach, is a Bible teacher, speaker, and podcaster.
