Romans 12:14-21
What do you do when you feel surrounded? In this sermon, Pastor Jeff Davis unpacks 2 Kings 6:8-16 and the powerful account of Elisha and the blinded Arameans. When Elisha's servant saw an army closing in, he panicked - but Elisha saw heaven's army already in place. The difference wasn't the situation; it was their perspective. This message will challenge you to choose faith over fear, respond with prayer instead of panic, and fix your eyes on the victory God has already secured. Listen now to be encouraged to tune your ear to hear God's voice and trust the true overcomer.
In times where evil seems pervasive, we can still persevere with our own goodness, infused with trust in a God of justice. A video lectio divina.
Thursday February 12, 2026V Week After Epiphany Today's readings reveal how quickly hurt can turn into hostility—and how God calls us to a higher way. In Genesis 27:30–45, Esau's heartbreak turns to rage after the stolen blessing, and Jacob is forced to flee the fallout of deception. Romans 12:9–21 urges believers to reject revenge, overcome evil with good, and practice sincere, selfless love. And in John 8:21–32, Jesus points to the power of truth, declaring that those who abide in His word will know the truth—and the truth will set them free. This episode invites us to choose grace over retaliation, truth over emotion, and a Christlike response when life feels deeply unfair.
In this episode of the Teach Different podcast, Steve, Jarvis, Bully, and Tr33 engage in a deep discussion about the quote from Romans 12:21, “Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” They explore personal experiences, the nature of good and evil, and the importance of intentions behind actions. The conversation touches on community activism, the role of leadership, and the challenges of modeling positive behavior for the next generation. The participants share their insights on spirituality, personal growth, and the impact of choices in overcoming negativity. Evil isn't just something “out there”—it's something we must all confront both in the world and in ourselves. Proverbs and Romans remind us that overcoming evil doesn't come from fighting harder or repaying wrongs but by surrendering fully to God. Through Jesus, we overcome evil not with more rebellion, but with goodness, humility, and submission to His authority.
Romans 12:14-21 English Standard Version14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.English Standard Version (ESV)The ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.ESV Text Edition: 2025.

One reason that Solomon was called wise is that he did not ignore the reality of evil in the world. He acknowledged it and lamented it. In a world where overwhelming evil threatens to overcomeus, we are called to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). Jesus was relentless in doinggood: saving, rescuing, forgiving, healing, etc. So let us not grow weary of doing good, for indue season we will reap, if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9).Take-Home Message: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.Do not be overcome by…- The Evil of Oppression (1-3). - Overcome Evil with… - The Good of Biblical Justice.- The Evil of Selfish Ambition (4-12). - Three Approaches to Work - The Competitive Workaholic (4) - The Impoverished Sluggard (5) - The Contented Laborer (6) - Overcome Evil with… - The Good of Biblical Community.- The Evil of Stubbornness (13-16). - Overcome Evil with… - The Good of Biblical Humility.
