Ecclesiastes 4:4-16 tells us that a man's envy of his neighbor is what drives him to chase after the winds of success in this world. Today, I am going to show you through Ecclesiastes 4 what is really going on as the new world order is changing rapidly through competition. And the question is what does it mean to work hard. Did you know that Scripture links selfish ambition and jealousy to something much darker—earthly, unspiritual, and demonic force? That means these aren't just minor character flaws; they're part of a deeper battle that affects every aspect of our lives, creating chaos and leading to every kind of evil. But there's another kind of wisdom—a wisdom from above—that's pure, peaceful, and powerfully transformative. If you've ever felt trapped in cycles of conflict or disorder, our Scripture today might hold the key to breaking free and living with clarity and purpose. Welcome to the Daily Devo. Our text today is James 3:13-16. Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. — James 3:13-16 James goes straight to the heart of the issue, exposing bitter jealousy and selfish ambition for what they truly are—demonic. Let that sink in. Jealousy and selfish ambition aren't harmless flaws or personal quirks; they're deeply rooted forces that distort our thinking, shaping attitudes and actions that lead us away from God. This duplicity isn't just a momentary slip-up—it's an earthly, unspiritual, and demonic way of life. It subtly prioritizes personal gain, power, and control while masquerading as truth, wisdom, and understanding. This duplicity appears in subtle yet destructive ways. It shows up in manipulation within relationships, where people exploit others for their own benefit. It infiltrates workplaces through deceit, backstabbing, and constant jockeying for position. It even divides churches when selfish ambition takes precedence over sacrificial love. At first glance, it might look like wisdom—after all, the world often rewards selfish ambition—but it actually plants seeds of chaos, conflict, and destruction. James calls us to something far greater—a wisdom from above, evidenced by understanding and marked by meekness. True wisdom isn't only about how much we know; it's revealed in how we live. It's not merely intellectual; it's profoundly moral and spiritual, rooted in humility, meekness, and reverence for God. It's the kind of wisdom that produces actions aligned with God's truth. Think of this process like building a house. Wisdom is the blueprint for a strong, sturdy home—you can see the design and understand what it's supposed to look like. Understanding is the actual construction—pouring the foundation, putting up walls, and carefully following the blueprint to bring it to life. Without the blueprint, the house would be chaotic, poorly constructed, and prone to collapse. Without understanding, the blueprint would remain just a nice idea on paper, never becoming a reality. When wisdom and understanding work together, they create something lasting, strong, and purposeful—just as God intended for our lives. In the same way, knowing God's truth (wisdom) and living it out (understanding) must be accompanied by the right attitude—meekness. When we align our actions with God's wisdom, the results are unmistakable: clarity replaces confusion, peace overcomes turmoil, and order arises from chaos. This isn't merely a better way to live; it's God's design, powerfully transforming our hearts, homes, and communities. Together, these elements build a life of enduring purpose and beauty. Take a moment to examine your heart. Where has jealousy or selfish ambition crept in? Confess it to God and ask for His wisdom, then choose one way to live it out today—with humility, peace, and truth. Wisdom from above builds up; ambition from within tears down. #GodlyWisdom, #BreakFreeFromAmbition, #James316 ASK THIS: Where have jealousy or selfish ambition created conflict in your life? How can you seek wisdom that's pure and peaceable? What practical steps can you take to live with meekness today? How does God's wisdom bring clarity and order to your daily choices? DO THIS: Confess any jealousy or selfish ambition to God, then choose one humble action today that reflects His wisdom and peace. PRAY THIS: Father, reveal any jealousy or selfish ambition in my heart and help me surrender it to You. Grant me Your wisdom to live with humility, peace, and purpose today. Amen PLAY THIS: Every Hour.

In a world of selfish ambition, the church is called to something radically different—a life shaped by gospel culture. While gospel doctrine provides the essential truths we stand on, gospel culture is how we live in response to those truths, embodying them in our everyday actions and relationships. In this episode, Whit and Casey dive into how gospel doctrine and culture go hand in hand and discuss our role in carrying this culture wherever we go. Jon and Kevin discuss the danger of selfish ambition when working in ministry.
This week we begin a new series to Glorify and Reflect our Lord and Savior.
We live in a society that tells us that selfishness and self-centeredness are okay so that we can be happy, successful, and feel important. But, the world is full of foolish, evil, and demonic wisdom. We need to be cautious of what we are looking to and where we are looking for truth and guidance. This all goes back to knowing what you believe and why you believe it. We will never be enough and find true fulfillment if we aren't relying on godly wisdom and truth. If you are acting with humility and seeking Heavenly discernment, the lies of this world will have a harder time taking hold on your heart.Listen to the latest episode of the #FearlessPodcast where I look at the “Lies of I's”—Wise instead if I's—and where we should look for fulfillment and wisdom in our lives. For more resources and additional episodes visit https://cissiegrahamlynch.com.

Finishing the Race2 Timothy 4:7,8Liberty Church BirminghamSunday, October 8, 2023Appreciation for Liberty Church – John Snow, David and Betty McCutchen and Ferrell Maughan were my first supporters, and continued after I married Jan. Bill Stamp, Bruce, Jeff Cato, and Ferrell visited us. Many wrote encouragement. Bill introduced us to Globe International in 85 and Liberty Fellowship the next year at Norman Park. Thank you, Bruce, for helping me finish this book. He suggested we launch it here today. And will be in the back room to sign copies for those who wish to make a donation for one to reach an Unreached people group in northern Mozambique. Providing local evangelists, trained by our German missionaries, motors cycles and bicycles to reach distant villages where you follow goat paths and cross torrent rivers in a canoe. – this book includes several events from here including one of Jerry Strong. How a German youth help a WWII vet get deliverance.Finishing the race – a scripture for finishing well, spiritual warfare, and funerals. What if it applies to God and is prophetic in a way that OT scriptures are? What if Paul writes it as pertaining to himself, but God inspires it because it also applies to Jesus and his work, specifically his work by the Holy Spirit in us? It could apply to his work on the cross, as well as his work through the church until the great and glorious day when he appears, and we all enter heaven. But that is a very western mindset to this problem. Always a focus on the winner! When you think of races like the Marathon, you don't know many if any of the participants. Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya holds the world record and 2 Gold medals in the Olympic Marathon will try for a 3rd in Paris next year. That seems to be focus of our society as we hold such accomplishments in high esteem. Selfish Ambition can easily become a downfall for anyone. But two races impress me and give me a new sense of understanding regarding Gods plans and intentions: the Iditarod race is a grueling difficult race in March in Alaska, and it is not over until the last team arrives at the finish line. The concern is for all to reach the goal! The Dream Marathon is unique in the fact that the established runners train the new runners personally 22 weeks before the race and when the first ones reach the finish line they return to the last ones and run with them encouraging them to finish as well! Here the whole idea is that the whole group is involved in the whole group! Look at this from God's perspective it is not over until all ethnic people groups, language groups, cultures, races, are represented at the marriage feast of the lamb! Until All who call upon the name of the Lord are saved, it is not over! Until all have heard and have had a chance to respond, the race is not over! It will not be accomplished without more dedicated career missionaries that is for sure! Pray to the Lord of the harvest that he will cast out more into the white, ready and prepared harvest fields! But we need more than those who will sacrifice to go, we need those who will commit to do the praying, encouraging, communicating, visiting, pastoring those who have gone! We need an army who see that church is not where we go to be entertained, but where we learn how to serve, how to invest in people, how to give what is needed in the Kingdom of God. It is not about a few doing the most, it is about us all moving together as the Holy Spirit directs us. Not listening to the myriad of voices but following the one! The task of reaching the Lost is our task together. Wherever they are found.
One of the greatest dangers plaguing the church today is also one of the oldest — selfish ambition. Since the church was first established, the people of God have experienced conflict, disagreement, and division, and often times these circumstances provide an opportunity for us to become bitter, envious, and boastful. But James 3 shows us what it looks like to endure conflict well. Rather than give in to the bitterness and envy that comes naturally to us in conflict, James instructs us to practice godly wisdom. We reject selfish ambition and instead choose to be people of peace, mercy, and good fruit. James 3

What is Meligion? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally explains that meligion is when your faith is all about you.James 1:27 ESVChristians are called to be Christ-centered not self-centered. God came to save you, but part of that is saving you from you. 4 Symptoms of being Meligious:1. Your spiritual disciplines only benefit you.Spiritual disciplines are the intentional activities we do to grow in our faith. Right thingsdone the wrong way become wrong things.Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. NLTThe invitation to follow Christ is an invitation into community because other people have been invited, too. 2. You make a big deal out of other people's sin instead of your own.1 Timothy 1:15 "Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst." NIVAn inflated view of yourself leads to a deflated view of your sin. Matthew 7:3-5 "And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend, 'Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,' when you can't see past the log in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye." NLTThe Bible works best as mirror for seeing your own issues clearly, not a pair of binoculars to see others' issues clearly.I often hear church people say things like "we need to take a stand against sin." I agree, but if we're going to be Biblical, we need to take a stand against your own sin, not the world's sin.1 Corinthians 5:9-13 NLTThe church doesn't exist to judge the world, but to love the world so that they might pursue a relationship with God. 3. You get frustrated when God doesn't do what you want Him to.Galatians 6:9 "Let's not become discouraged in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not become weary." NASB1 Peter 5:6-7 "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time"When is God going to do that thing He promised? When He's good and ready.Make sure your faith is tied to a relationship with God, not a result from God. 4. You struggle with confusion, instability, and disorder.James 3:16 "For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice." NIVWhen we're consumed with ourselves, we'll often make decisions that hurt others and hurts oursleves. When we're consumed with Jesus, we'll make decisions that help others and helpourselves. Are you being meligious?
