We are beleaguered by a growing youth generation who are completely ignorant of basic history and facts of life. I explain how the Biden administration is playing on the ignorance of college kids to induce a global intifada on behalf of Hamas. However, it's not just Israel that is in the crosshairs. They intend for this movement to create violence headed into next year's elections. But the ignorance is not limited to the Left. Our side, thanks to failed conservative leaders, is ignorant of politics and continues to support those who undermine our agenda. I go through the latest betrayals on a litany of policies at the hands of red-state Republicans who continue to win primaries because our voters are ignorant. And yes, this includes their understanding of Trump as well. We're joined by Sean Kennedy, a crime expert and visiting fellow at the Maryland Public Policy Institute, who updates us on the latest career violent criminal who went on to commit more crimes after being released by Trump. Sean reminds us that we have an under-incarceration problem, and Trump really betrayed us on that issue. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

On this episode, George Mason Law's Ilya Somin joins me and UVA Law students Joseph Camano ('24) and Dennis Ting ('24) to discuss the full implications of "My Body, My Choice." Somin argues that the principle has implications that go far beyond abortion (including paying kidney donors, and abolishing the draft and mandatory jury service) and that both liberals and conservatives are inconsistent in their application. ILYA SOMIN is Professor of Law at George Mason University and the B. Kenneth Simon Chair in Constitutional Studies at the Cato Institute. His research focuses on constitutional law, property law, democratic theory, federalism, and migration rights.  He is the author of  Free to Move: Foot Voting, Migration, and Political Freedom (Oxford University Press, 2020, revised and expanded edition, 2021), Democracy and Political Ignorance: Why Smaller Government is Smarter (Stanford University Press, revised and expanded second edition, 2016), and The Grasping Hand: Kelo v. The Rational Egoist - Public Choice Economics and Political Ignorance with Max Borders In this thought-provoking episode of "The Rational Egoist" with host Michael Leibowitz, special guest Max Borders, former director of content at The Foundation for Economic Education, and Executive Director at Social Evolution, delves into the realm of Public Choice Economics, the decline of empires, and the concept of a constitution of consent. The conversation centrers around how government intervention can disrupt natural supply and demand curves in the economy, limiting competition and hindering market responsiveness to actual consumer demands. The discussion also touches on the phenomenon of "rational ignorance," where the average person lacks the time, incentive, or inclination to delve into the complexities of politics and economics. They explore how this widespread ignorance can lead to irrational decision-making, impacting society and policymaking. Moreover, they explore the intriguing concept of "rational irrationality," where people have some knowledge about certain economic principles but choose to ignore them because the consequences do not directly affect them. This behaviour often manifests in the realm of politics and policies, with politicians engaging in virtue signalling, promising minimum wage increases without adequately addressing their potential adverse effects on employment. Max's contest: https://underthrow.substack.com/p/the-constitution-of-consent-contest Michael Leibowitz is a renowned philosopher, political activist, and the esteemed host of the Rational Egoist podcast. Inspired by the philosophical teachings of Ayn Rand, Leibowitz passionately champions the principles of reason, rational self-interest, and individualism, seeking to empower others through his compelling work. His life's narrative exemplifies the transformative power of Ayn Rand's writings. Having faced challenging circumstances that led to a 25-year prison sentence, Leibowitz emerged from adversity by embracing the tenets of rational self-interest and moral philosophy put forth by Ayn Rand. This profound transformation propelled him to become an influential figure in the libertarian and Objectivist communities, motivating others to adopt reason, individualism, and self-interest in their own lives. Beyond his impactful podcasting endeavours, Leibowitz fearlessly engages in lively political debates, advocating for the protection of individual rights and freedoms through compelling YouTube videos and insightful interviews. His unwavering commitment to these ideals has garnered him a dedicated following of like-minded individuals. Leibowitz is a versatile author, co-authoring the thought-provoking book titled "Down the Rabbit Hole: How the Culture of Correction Encourages Crime." This groundbreaking work delves into societal attitudes surrounding punishment and rehabilitation, shedding light on how misguided approaches have contributed to the rise of crime and recidivism. Additionally, he has authored the book "View from a Cage: From Convict to Crusader for Liberty," offering an intimate portrayal of his personal journey while exploring the philosophies that influenced his transformation. As you embark on your intellectual journey, join Michael Leibowitz as he advocates for reason, individualism, and the pursuit of self-interest, inspiring others to embrace a philosophy that empowers and uplifts the human spirit. For a deeper exploration of his ideas and insights, don't miss the opportunity to read "Down the Rabbit Hole: How the Culture of Correction Encourages Crime," co-authored by Michael Leibowitz. A common claim among Democrats is that, "It's not that people don't want to be educated, they just haven't been given the opportunity, thus government spending on education needs to increase." If there were ever a group of people capable of "educating" themselves it would be American celebrities. Yet it seems as though there is a secret contest among them to see who could be the most historically, economically, and philosophically illiterate. The most recent example comes from Chris Rock's "Selective Outrage" Netflix special where he says, "It's the Royal Family...they invented colonialism." Here is a brief list of empires who engaged in Colonialism before the Royal Family did: Marhasi Empire Islamic Empires Akkadian Empire Hittite empire Assyrian Empire Roman Empire Babylonian Empire Persian Empire Shang Dynasty Egyptian Empire Zhou Dynasty Macedonian Empire Qin Dynasty Han Dynasty Armenian Empire Xin Dynasty Gallic Empire Hunnic Empire Latin Empire Mongol Empire Other examples from Rock's "Selective Outrage": January 6th "You see the Capitol riots? White men trying to overthrow the government, that they run!" - Chris Rock It does not occur to the Social Justice Race Essentialist mind that people who are the same race (and gender) have differing ideas on what is just or unjust. Just because two people are of the same race and gender, it in no way means the person (or group) with power is acting on behalf of those who share their gender or race. It's akin to saying: "How did a war occur in China between Mao's Communists and Chiang's Nationalists? They were all Chinese! How was there a Russian Civil War between Reds and Whites? They were all Russian!" Ukraine "America's in horrible shape. We got it worse, than Ukraine. Yeah I said it...Ukraine is united, and America is clearly divided." - Chris Rock I guess after Rock researched the stark contrast between Ukrainian separatists in the Donbas supporting Viktor Yanukovych and those in 2014 supporting Petro Poroshenko leading to an eight-year civil war killing 14,000 people, Rock came to the conclusion that like White men, all Ukrainians are on the same page. I was not aware that Volodymyr Zelenskyy was on the same page with the people who he enslaved via conscription to fight in his military, the political parties he banned, and the media he nationalized. Jim Crow Rock makes a great point at the end about the evils of Jim Crow Laws which forbid Blacks from seeing White dentists. It's pure evil for a third party to forcibly restrict two consenting parties from engaging in a mutually beneficial voluntary economic exchange. This is the central goal of the Libertarian Institute, and on this issue we stand firmly with Chris Rock!

It’s election season, and everyone seems to be extra motivated to get out, vote, and do their civic duty. And one reason may be that we feel overwhelmed by the state of our country and political polarization. We see people everywhere dehumanizing the “other side” and we ourselves are often guilty of the same. Is it possible that our relationship to politics is unhealthy? Dr. Chris Freiman thinks so and we sat down with him to understand why. Chris’s Book Why It’s OK to Ignore Politics suggests that we have a moral duty to ignore politics and put our energy into other ways to make society better. Is he right or is there something he’s missing? Listen and decide for yourself. Show Notes

We seem to live in a political climate where an election always seems to be around the corner, and this week, with the announcement of a December General Election, we thought it necessary to discuss voting behaviour. With social media narrowing our world view through algorithmic timelines and politicians failing to provide us with the right information, voting is more convoluted than ever. We discussed this with an aim to establish how voters can avoid bias and bypass the abundance of bogus information that is so often forced upon us.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the progressive movement rejected the notion that government was something to be feared. Rather, they contended that government could, simply through the passing of laws, bring improvements to society. In this, they cast aside the fears of the Founding Generation that government was something to be feared — George Washington referred to government as a dangerous servant and a fearful master, while Thomas Jefferson argued that we cannot trust government, but should bind it with the chains of the Constitution. QoS – “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” Off-Topic – Manifest…Vasectomy/tubes ties Talking points: Political ignorance Let us be real this is a topic that nobody in the black community either educated or not wants to talk about. However, this topic is so important because we keep making the same mistakes allowing the cycle to repeat itself. We all focus on voting rights and how “important” it is to vote but what about the other aspects of politics. Representation is one of them that are HUGE but never talked about or encouraged. No I’m not saying lets throw away all the politicians and implant all black ones, I’m saying throw away all the people who don’t stand for us and replace them with people who do. For too long black people in America have considered the Democratic Party as one who is for the people and do not have any racist within in. This is wrong we as a community just have the habit of ignoring racist remarks, comments, or actions that people within the Democratic Party does. Its almost one of those situations where when white people are around black people long enough they get a pass to say some off the wall stuff in exchange of some laughs. Let us change this. Hillary Clinton’s comment is a perfect example Yella Beezy Yella Beezy was on the unfavorable end of gunfire after jumping from strip club to strip club on a Texas highway as he drove home. As he drove home, a car pulled up beside him and opened fire. He jumped into the passenger side to try to elude the gunfire but suffered three gunshot wounds. At some point, he was able to jump out the car and fled on foot. As he fled, he proceeded to call his girlfriend (who didn’t answer, then his mom, then 911). The second edition of Ilya Somin's Democracy and Political Ignorance: Why Smaller Government is Smarter could not have arrived at a better time. Most of us can sense something wrong with our democracy, but the source of our problems is often overlooked in the face of the symptoms: botched wars, corruption, and political parties that fail to deliver decent, principled candidates. Somin, a Law Professor at George Mason University and contributor to the Washington Post's Volokh Conspiracy blog, asks us to consider that the issue may a bit closer to home. Might the problem reside partly in our own ignorance, and the reasonable decision of a majority of voters to live their lives rather than obsess about an unaccountable central government? Somin is not taking aim at “stupid voters” or blaming them for the problems of society, but proposing alternative mechanisms for improving governance that depend less on a perfectly informed citizenry. He joins Bob to explore more realistic correctives to the slide towards idiocracy, including a new spin on federalism in the form of "foot voting."

According to recent polls, only 42% of Americans could name the three branches of the federal government and only 28% could name two of the five rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. Even worse, 35% believed that “from each according to his ability to each according to his need” was embodied in the Constitution (but it came from Karl Marx!). In short, voters are politically dumb. Yet, their decisions directly affect 300+ million Americans and influence the rest of the world in an ancillary way. From a purely self-interested perspective, spending the time to understand political issues is a clear waste of time, as is voting itself. What does this tell us about the viability of democracy in America? In this episode, Ilya Somin, author of the soon-to-be-released “Democracy and Political Ignorance” shares his perceptive views and insights. Ilya is a Professor of Law at George Mason University, a prolific blogger and a frequent guest on Mainstream Media. There is no more important issue in America, and no better guest to discuss the topic than Ilya Somin.
