In this episode, we speak with artist Bassam Issah Al-Sabah about his new audio work Field Image, where landscapes shaped by extraction, memory and technological infrastructure are contextualised through the shifting terrain of the Irish bog. Beginning with the work's disembodied narrator, we explore what it means to become part of a landscape where human presence lingers only through traces. The conversation then moves towards the bog as an ancient archive, existing alongside a contemporary landscape increasingly reshaped by data centres and digital infrastructure.Together we discuss how folk knowledge, ecological systems and colonial histories intersect with computational technologies. We consider whether plants, folklore and older systems of organising land might operate as forms of resistance that repel the infrastructures imposed upon them. Thinking about the material realities of the digital through heat, soil, extraction and energy, the conversation challenges immaterial information and asks what ancient technologies and embodied ways of knowing might reveal in an age obsessed with data and legibility. This mini-series is commissioned by the Henry Moore Institute as a part of their program for their exhibition Phantasmagoria: Folkloric Sculpture for the Digital Age, open 15th May - 30th August 2026.Bios;Bassam Issa Al-Sabah works CGI animation, sculpture, textiles, painting, and installation, constructing speculative worlds where fantasy, mythology, and digital culture become methods for reimagining identity, memory, and collective futures. Drawing on the visual languages of anime, video games, and online image cultures, his practice explores transformation as a queer methodology, proposing mutable bodies, mythic narratives, and hybrid ecologies as alternatives to fixed understandings of gender, history, and belonging. Recent work has increasingly engaged feminist and posthuman perspectives, using fiction as a critical framework through which care, desire, revenge, and interdependence can be imagined beyond patriarchal and colonial structures.Al-Sabah's work has been presented extensively across Europe in museums, galleries, and festivals, including the Barbican Centre, London; Jeu de Paume, Paris; FACT Liverpool; De La Warr Pavilion; and The Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin. Alongside his solo practice, he has developed an ongoing collaborative body of work with artist Jennifer Mehigan, extending his interest in speculative storytelling through large-scale installation, animation, sculpture, and publishing. Across both solo and collaborative projects, his work continues to investigate how fiction, digital technologies, and myth can produce new ways of understanding ecology, kinship, and collective experience. His work is held in the collections of the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), the Arts Council of Ireland, and Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council Using paint, inkjet, neural networks, her garden and her phone, Jennifer Mehigan's prints and paintings blend new and old methods of processing the world. She positions the relationships between contemporary image-making technologies and their predecessors as a ‘strained mother-daughter' dynamic, encompassing wider ideas of reproduction and inheritance in image ecologies. For the past seven years, her research has oriented around the Famine to present alternative vantage points of what abstraction means in an embodied context, its relationship to ideas of appetite and fertility, and how it can be considered both an applied and innate technology. The mouth and throat are interrogated as sites of image production, becoming ‘embodied printers' in which oral histories and their materialities might be made visual to renegotiate the conditions of abstraction as we understand them now. Her wider practice incorporates sculpture, filmmaking, publishing, perfumery, and parties, deploying sensory experiences to explore ideas of movement and digestion as it is outsourced to machines. She regularly works in partnership with artist Bassam Issa Al-Sabah and has previously collaborated with and been part of collectives such as Synthesize_Her, Temporary Pleasure, Fruit Shop, and The 343. Recent shows include multiple iterations of ‘Uncensored Lilac' in Aksioma, Ljubljana (2026), VSSL Studio, London (2025), and Transmediale, Berlin (2024); ‘Nightbloom Chokehold' in Douglas Hyde Gallery 2, Dublin (2022); and group shows and screenings include Kerlin Gallery, Dublin (2023), Anafi Film Festival, Greece (2025) and FACT Liverpool, UK (2026). Teyemmümün meşru kılınması, Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.)'in hicretinin beşinci senesindedir. Hicretin beşinci senesi Şaban ayının ilk günlerinde Huzaa Kabilesi'nin bir oymağı olan Benî Mustalik Gâzvesi'nde, Resûl-i Ekrem (s.a.v.) ile bin kadar İslâm askeri susuz bir yerde gecelemişlerdi. Sabah namazını kılmak için abdest alacak su bulamadılar. Sabaha yakın "Yolculukta bulunupta su bulamazsanız, temiz toprak ile teyemmüm ediniz" (Nisa s. 43) meâlindeki ayet-i kerime nazil oldu. Teyemmüm ile namaz kılmalarına müsaade olundu. Ashâb-ı Kiram (r.a.e.) çok sevindi. Teyemmüm ederek sabah namazını kıldılar. Teyemmümün rükünleri (farzları) ellerini teyemmümde kullanacağı şeye vurduktan sonra iki kolu ve yüzü meshetmektir. Teyemmümün sahih olması için aşağıdaki 9 şartın bulunması lâzımdır: 1. Niyet. 2. Şehir içinde bile olsa, suyun en az bir mil (1609 metre) uzakta olması gibi, teyemmüm yapmayı mubâh kılan bir mazeretin bulunması. 3. Teyemmüm yapılacak maddede bulunması icâp eden şartlar: a. Yeryüzü cinsinden toprak, (eli zedelemeyecek şekilde olan kireç) düz taş, kum gibi maddeler. b. Ağaç ve odun gibi yanıp kül olmayan şeyler. c. Demir (bakır, altın) ve cam gibi erimeyen ve yumuşamayan şeyler. 4. Teyemmümde, yüzün tamamı ile kollar dirseklerle berâber meshedilmelidir. Dar yüzük ve bilezikler ya çıkarılır veya hareket ettirilir. Nitekim, tozlar parmakların arasına girmediği takdirde de parmak aralarını hilallemek vâcibtir. 5. El ile mesh edilince, elin çoğuyla mesh etmek lâzımdır. En az üç parmakla meshetmek şarttır. 6. Aynı mekâna da olsa, ellerinin içiyle (birincisinde yüz, ikincisinde kollar için) yere iki defa vurmak icap eder. 7. Toprağın deriye değmesine engel olacağı için, mum ve iç yağı gibi maddelerin deri üzerinde bulunmaması gerekir. 8. We often tend to surrender when the problem that we face never findsits solution. Surrender means to make a retreat and stop to continue to speakor to act. Surrender is not about someone who is hopeless with greatdisappointment and sadness. Those who surrender over something or someone areactually those who still have room for hope, and they are open for solutionsthat may come in their favor such as time, other people, fortune, and  of course God. The most common one is our surrender to God. Forinstance, there was a fight between two persons that never ended. There werealready many efforts to find solution for their problem such as throughfamily's peace talks, religious assistance and trial in the court but they havenot been able to solve their problem. The loser would always force the issue sothat the problem would just remain disturbing. At certain point both partiesbelieved that there was no longer reason to remain in conflict and fight,therefore, they chose to surrender. The last thing still remained was to bringthe problem to God and He would decide or judge for each of them. God'sjudgement will be made after our death, where every person will be judgedaccording to one's behavior in this life on earth. This example illustrates how God determines at the endof our journey of life. Jesus gave us a proper parable to teach us about thisfinal determination, namely the judgement in heaven that ultimately decides whois right and who is wrong. God has such a wise strategy. He does not make bigand final judgement when there is still time for us to change ourselves whilewe are still on earth. God is patient and tolerant so that the trouble makersand the sinful ones still have opportunity to repent before their death. This strategy of course contradicts with the way wehumans normally do, which is the enjoyment for those who win and the sadnessfor those who lose in the world. People commonly perceive that the joy ofvictory is final or the sadness of losing is the end. Yet the truth is that,those wins and loses are just pieces of life event that cannot be consideredfinal of our journey. Our standard of justice is only to fulfill the demands ofthis world, whereas a judgement which is the highest final is indeed thestandard of the Lord, the almighty. It is our true belief that our finaldetermination is from God. According to the prophet Jeremiah, as long as we livein this world, our lives should follow God's determination, like the way thepotter carves things from clay. Through His will and wisdom, God wants to shapeus in our words and actions every day so that we can experience how Hedetermines our lives from one moment to another, from our wake up in themorning until our sleep at night. This is our way of life that leads us to thefinal judgement in heaven. Let'spray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, may we always lookforward to the final moment of your judgement over us with our firm faith andlasting hope. Hail Mary, full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...

Edgar Morin, philosophe, sociologue, épistémologue, résistant, cinéphile, centenaire. Il est mort le 29 mai 2026 à 104 ans. Son dernier livre s'appelait Leçons d'un siècle de vie.J'avais son contact depuis le début de VLAN. On a des gens en commun. Et je n'ai jamais osé décrocher le téléphone, par peur de déranger. Chaque année, je me disais : non, cette fois c'est trop. Jusqu'à ce qu'il soit trop tard. C'est la leçon la plus bête et la plus douloureuse que je retienne de sa disparition.Cet épisode solo est un hommage. Je me suis plongé dans ses dernières conférences et dans Leçons d'un siècle de vie pour en tirer trois idées fondamentales et trois leçons de vie. Pas des recettes, pas des listes à appliquer. Edgar Morin lui-même aurait détesté ça. Il n'y a pas de différence fondamentale entre une perception et une hallucination. L'erreur a trois sources : le malentendu, la partialité et l'idéalisme. Ce troisième type est le plus redoutable : les idées qui finissent par nous gouverner non pas parce qu'on nous les impose, mais parce qu'on y croit sincèrement. Le solutionnisme technologique, la croissance comme valeur absolue, l'économie elle-même sont des exemples de cette servitude volontaire. Ce qui est frappant chez Morin, c'est qu'il distingue les erreurs fructueuses des erreurs stériles, et qu'il les analyse au lieu de les nier.2. L'humain est un oxymore sur pattes (~11:28)Morin refuse la flatterie envers l'espèce humaine. Il ne parle pas seulement d'homo sapiens mais d'homo demens, homo faber, homo mythologicus, homo economicus, homo ludens. Nous sommes tout ça en même temps, et c'est précisément cette contradiction qui nous permet d'aimer, de créer et d'espérer. Vouloir "optimiser" l'humain pour en retirer la part irrationnelle, comme le promettent certains projets d'IA ou de transhumanisme, c'est aussi retirer ce qui donne envie du futur.3. La dialogique : deux vérités opposées peuvent être simultanément vraies (~13:15)La mondialisation est la meilleure et la pire chose arrivée à l'humanité. Pour la première fois, tous les êtres humains partagent une communauté de destin. Et ce même processus conduit à des catastrophes écologiques, économiques et démographiques. Tenir cette tension sans la résoudre artificiellement, c'est ce que Morin appelle la dialogique. Dans un monde où les réseaux sociaux récompensent les positions tranchées, refuser de simplifier ce qui ne peut pas l'être est un acte de résistance.4. La transfiguration : le changement vient de l'intérieur des systèmes (~15:03)Juan Carlos élevé dans le franquisme qui devient garant de la démocratie espagnole. Gorbatchev apparatchik qui se transforme en humaniste planétaire. Le pape François, évêque conformiste qui renoue avec le message évangélique. Morin appelle ça la transfiguration : un travail souterrain de la conscience qui peut surgir brusquement. Dans une époque où l'on a l'impression de ne rien pouvoir faire face à Trump ou Musk, cette idée donne de l'espoir concret.5. L'état poétique comme hygiène de vie (~24:35)Survivre, c'est respirer et se nourrir. Vivre, c'est conduire sa vie avec ses risques et ses possibilités de jouissance. L'état poétique, c'est cet état second que l'on obtient dans un échange de sourire, devant un paysage, à l'écoute d'une symphonie ou lors d'une conversation qui dure trop longtemps sur une terrasse. Morin disait qu'à 99 ans, il entrait encore en trance dès les premières mesures du premier mouvement de la 9e de Beethoven.
