This week we're excited to present an NYFF61 Crosscut conversation between Annie Baker and Raven Jackson, the directors of two of the most self-assured debut films of the year (Janet Planet and All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt, respectively). Covering traits of the coming-of-age genre, writing practices, and non-traditional scripts, Baker and Jackson's conversation was moderated by NYFF Main Slate Committee member Kameron Austin Collins. Breaking onto the scene with two of the most original and assured feature debuts in recent memory, Baker and Jackson have each crafted tone poems of breathtaking delicacy. With stories that weave together themes of motherhood and coming-of-age with a lush, exquisitely detailed sense of place, Baker and Jackson distill and transpose the singular qualities of their literary work to the cinematic medium.

It's 'Day 10' and @EchoChamberFP https://www.instagram.com/echochamberfp/ has two films to look at, as we keep 67th BFI London Film Festival (4th to 15th October 2023), coverage rolling!!! Delving into the 'Journey' and 'Official Competition' strands, these are very different offerings, but both very captivating!!! 'All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt' is written & directed by Raven Jackson. Mack (Kaylee N. Johnson, Charleen McClure, Zainab Jah) has been taught to know the earth – the woods, the water and the clay, which her ancestors drew sustenance from. But life itself, in all its messy beauty, is less predictable. 'The End We Start From' is directed by Mahalia Belo which he co-wrote with Alice Birch, it's an adaptation of Megan Hunter 2017 book of the same name. After an ecological crisis, a couple (Jodie Comer & Joel Fry) and their newborn baby abandon their home in flooded London and flee northwards looking for safety and a place to re-start their lives. Learning about intelligent animals is one thing, but what about those that share over 98% of their DNA with us? Just how smart can they be? Today I had the opportunity to talk with the veterinarian at chimp haven, Dr. Raven Jackson-Jewett. Over the last decade, this woman has cared for and looked after hundreds of rescued chimpanzees to give them a shot at living a normal life. This great sanctuary offers 200 acres of land for the chimpanzees to socialize and form families. The stories told in this episode are mind-blowing and what is even greater is the care that the animal care staff provides for each individual chimpanzee. Make sure to check them out on Instagram for tons of cool photos and videos of what goes on at the sanctuary @chimphaven. Check out their website, https://chimphaven.org/, and see how you can donate to make sure the chimps are getting the best quality of life. You can even sign up to get updates on your favorite chimp! You can learn about their habitats, enrichments, and diets so go check it out! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Treatment-resistant hypertension, the need for 4 or more medications to achieve goal blood pressure (BP), occurs in nearly 1 in 5 patients.1 But is it truly treatment-resistant? A recent study suggests there is a simple solution: watch them take their pills. Guest Authors: Meagan Brown, PharmD, BCACP and Raven Jackson, PharmD Music by Good Talk
