I'm excited to share the remastered version of SA Hip Hop Mix #124, a mix that holds a special place in my journey as a DJ. This is part of my SA Hip Hop Mix series, originally featured on The Ready D Show on Good Hope FM—a show that ran for 10 years, where I had a dedicated slot to showcase the depth of South African rap. The idea behind this series has always been to celebrate the incredible diversity of our hip hop scene—different sounds, styles, and languages that make SA rap so unique. Mix #124 brings that to life by featuring artists like Reason, Jits Vinger, Camo, Ifani & more., while embracing the full spectrum of our 11 official languages. This mix is more than just music—it's a tribute to the culture, the voices, and the ever-evolving sound of South African hip hop. Hope you enjoy! Check out what's to offer as an exclusive member via ko-fi.com/azuhl where you can download this mix & my entire DJ mix catalog, music, weekly mashups & music video mixes.

CARVO CARDO perceives himself as an artistic person because of his love for anything that takes up the form of art; be it a painting, poetry, music or acting. When asked why be a rapper? He simply replied, “People have admired poets for centuries and glorified musicians for even longer. Rap is a fusion of both, so why not choose rap?” These are the two passions that stole his heart and brought him to the City of Dreams. After years of development and dedication in the studio tirelessly working to perfect his art, CARVO CARDO released a track called “Up in this ft Jimmy Jagga" as a way to get a feel of the then current hip hop scene in 2014. The reception was positive. Having identified his lane in the industry he then proceeded to release a number of singles in 2015, notably “Excuse U ft Dizzmental” and following the success of “Excuse U”, he subsequently dropped the overwhelming fan favourite “Squad”, where the lyricist revels upon the experiences of rolling with his... well... “Squad”; complimented by a knocker of a trap-like beat that has proven to keep ears and mouths ringing long after the curtain closes. As a result of the humbling success seen by CARDO, he has secured a public stamp of approval from the likes of Sizwe Dhlomo, DJ Milkshake, YFM's DJ Speedsta and Ricky Rick amongst many other industry stakeholders. CARVO CARDO released his debut E.P entitled THE FOREVER COMBO on the 6th of October 2016 which reached 20 000 streams on Spotify. A year later, CARVO CARDO released NATURES SAUCE. A mixtape that has been rated one of the best independent compositions in SA Hip Hop. With features from MARAZA, JAY CLAUDE and TSHEGO. In 2017, CARVO CARDO released a monstrous single titled Orange, which features MARAZA.

We back baby and there's only one way to start off this season, with some authority. It's been a long time coming, this guy has been the most requested guest to come on the show in the past six months. Having set himself up as the authoritative figure in SA Hip Hop, we definitely had to have him on the show, ladies and gents, boys and girls we have the one and only Nota in the middle seat. Nota has made some shocking statements on the socials and national TV, he's at the same time also gave us truths about the music industry. Enjoy the episode as we try to extract more gems from the man and find out why he called us dick riders. How lucky are we? To have three of the best role players in the SA Hip Hop culture, not just as females but as human beings who stand for carrying this culture forward. Lee Kasumba, Lootlove and Ayanda MVP graced the studio to share parts of their journeys ahead of the upcoming #CastleLiteUnlocks Conversations, which are set to take place on the first day of the two-day spectacle. Lee Kasumba, where do we even start? One of the purveyors of the Joburg Hip Hop scene, she helped bring Hip Hop to the mainstream during her tenure at Yfm, she also put on some of your favourite emcees. Lee can be described as a connector in the game, whether it's rappers to audiences, DJs to artists, and even labels to artists. Having stepped away from Hip Hop for a moment, she takes time to let us in on what she has been up to and trust us when we say she made us green with envy. Lootlove, a returning guest on the show, was introduced to the audience at large through TV presenting on Live Amp and recently made a swift transition to radio. Hosting Absolute Hip Hop with DJ Speedsta on Metro FM, she is definitely very hands-on in the progression of SA Hip Hop in all aspects. Most of us got into Hip Hop through friends, cousins and/or siblings, you won't believe who put her onto Hip Hop. Loot also shares her struggles and joys of motherhood and fame Ayanda MVP has become almost everyone's favourite DJ, and one thing we've learned in this episode is that Ayanda doesn't take ‘No' for an answer. She has pushed through many walls to get where she is today, from being an on-air Hip-Hop radio presenter to making the transition to a fully-fledged daytime presenter on one of Gauteng's biggest stations. From TUKS FM and learning how to DJ with techno, to now being part of the #CastleLiteUnlocks conversations. Ayanda's story is definitely hard to ignore just like her presence behind the decks.
