Episode 90 and I'm joined by Zian. Zian enlisted in 2010 at just 17, kicked off her paperwork at 16, and hit the ground running. She was thrown into Artillery straight out of Kapooka, hated it, got sick, and fought her way back to clerks where she felt she belonged. From 2CER to HQ 1 DIV/DJFHQ, she found her passion for policy and keeping the Army machine moving. A deployment on Op Hawick in 2014, a promo posting to 6 RAR in 2015, and key admin roles right across the battalion, she smashed every job put in front of her. From Kapooka to SOI during the COVID chaos, she balanced huge workloads as a single mum before separating in 2021 after more than a decade of service. Zian's story is raw, honest, and full of grit. https://forjlete.com/Find us on Instagram and Facebook. @5withadiggerpodcastThis podcast proudly sponsored by Gravel Empire. Cuzkell Contractors. Episode 88 and I'm joined by Pete. Pete kicked off his Army journey back in July 2002 and went on to serve right through to 2019, a massive 17-year career that took him across some of the most specialised and demanding roles in the ADF. In 2007 he completed a Clerk course to help fill a growing admin gap, then pushed himself even further becoming a JTAC in 2008, serving across 4 RAR and 2 Div until 2011. He then chased the next challenge with Selection West (2011–12) before moving into the intelligence space. From 2012 to 2017 Pete worked deep inside HUMINT and later stepped into an expanded HUMINT role with 1 INT in 2018, deploying into the South China Sea. From artillery to special operations pathways and intelligence collection, Pete's career touches almost every corner of modern Army operations. S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. We knew this conversation would be too good to keep to ourselves, so we recorded it, and now we're sharing it with you!In this episode, you'll hear: Why Katie wanted to write and illustrate a picture book about Pauline Baynes Katie's process for writing, illustrating, and revising a page-turning book What Katie would go back and tell her younger self, plus her favorite resources for aspiring authors and illustratorsLearn more about Sarah Mackenzie:Read-Aloud RevivalWaxwing BooksSubscribe to the NewsletterFind the rest of the show notes at: readaloudrevival.com/painting-wonder-launch

Summer break . . . It's often not much of a break, right?Even if you find yourself with a little less on your plate, anxiety and second-guessing have a way of filling the gaps where we want rest and relaxation to fill.To find peace that lasts throughout the school year, we can't just “take a break.” We need to break free from the stories and fears that keep us mired in anxiety. When homeschooling moms ask me for advice, they rarely need advice. What they're really asking for is reassurance, a chance to take a breath and let go of anxiety or fear, so they can trust themselves and trust that the Holy Spirit will guide them.Today the RAR team selected some of our favorite pieces of wisdom on the theme of rest and reassurance from the RAR Premium private podcast, Circle with Sarah. Think of this episode as a little vacation for your homeschooling heart. How is our parenting an act of resistance or compliance to larger systems that harm? How do we know if we are unconsciously carrying out patterns of oppression in our families? What does it look like to step out of what is expected of us and parent from ancestral values? In this episode, Leslie Priscilla shares how being raised by two Mexican immigrants and parenting her own bicultural children inspired her to create Latinx Parenting. She opens up about how parenting in the context of colonization and white supremacy has forced many families of the global majority to adapt their parenting in ways that stray from ancestral wisdom. We talk about how parenting philosophies like attachment parenting and homeschooling are often seen as white-dominated spaces, even though these practices existed in many cultures before colonization disrupted them.Leslie Priscilla is a Queer Neurodivergent Non-Black Xicana/Child of Mexican Immigrants with Rarámuri lineage. She's a mama of three, a certified Parent Coach with over 16 years of experience, and the founder of Latinx Parenting—a movement rooted in the liberation of familias through nonviolence, reparenting, and ancestral healing. In this conversation, Leslie gets personal about how she has been raising her children and how her family follows a flow of collaboration and organic learning. She brings us into the heart of nonviolent parenting, based on the work of Ruth Beaglehole, and reminds us that "at the root of every behavior is a need that is seeking to be met." Key Topics:Colonization's impact on parenting across generationsThe erasure of ancestral caregiving practicesNonviolent parenting as liberationParenting as an act of social and racial justiceUnderstanding every behavior as a need trying to be metParenting as a portal to self-healing and collective growthThis episode is a warm, powerful call to the collective healing work needed to liberate future generations—one parent, one family, one kid, at a time.Get to know Leslie Priscilla and Latinx Parenting https://latinxparenting.org/Follow Leslie Priscilla on IG @latinxparentingSupport YKDS https://buymeacoffee.com/yourkidsdontsuckIt's important and essential to put our voices (Rythea and Cara) in a context. Send us a textThis week, we're taking a different path—one that starts in Cherokee and Mohawk territory and winds its way across the Americas, ending with the Rarámuri in northern Mexico. We're not talking about monsters or murder today. We're talking about what Indigenous people would be doing right now—planting, gathering, fishing, dreaming—and the spirits, warnings, and weirdness that come with it.We talk about the Cherokee Raven Mocker, a heart-stealing death spirit that shows up when the seasons shift. The Mohawk Stone Giants, ancient cannibal beings driven underground when humans forgot their place. The Abenaki one-legged giant, Odzihozo, who dragged himself across the landscape to shape Lake Champlain. The Crow River People, spirits beneath the water who give visions—or take lives. And the Rarámuri peyote journeys, where the Blue Deer leads chosen travelers through the spirit world. The cycle of spring, the work of survival, and the stories that still walk with us.And yeah—some of it gets weird.Stick around—next time we're heading north into Canada and west to the coast, with even more tribes, spirits, and stories that still move with the seasons.Merch store- https://indigenoustales.threadless.com/Email us at info@behillnetwork.com Also check out our Instagram -https://www.instagram.com/indigenous_tales/And our TikTok -https://www.tiktok.com/@indigenous_talesAmanda Bland Dallas area Bakeryinstagram - https://www.instagram.com/cupidsweetsbakes/Cupid Sweets- https://www.facebook.com/cupidsweets
On Todays podcast, I speak with an Australian Army 1 RAR / 2 Cav veteran. This is a story of the tenacity of Linton "HARRY" Harris, joining the army not once but twice, in his quest for purpose. Harry's 1st term of service included deployment to Somalia, Africa, as a 19-year-old. Re-enlisting after a 7-year break, Harry's 2nd term of service included 2 tours to Iraq, resulting in the awarding of the Commendation for Distinguished Service. After service, seeking the quest for a purpose that is often an issue for Veterans, Harry rose to the position of VP of the Tasmanian RSL, only to be betrayed by that organisation, while fighting for the plight of a homeless veteran, leading to a mental breakdown, and suicidal ideation, due to the RSLs treachery. An incredible story that goes to show you don't have to be in special forces to serve at the pointiest end. Presenter: Adam Blum Guest: Linton “Harry” Harris Editor: Kyle Watkins

Send us a textDeep in the canyons of northern Mexico, the Rarámuri people tell stories about giants—real ones. They're called Ganokos, and they're not friendly spirits or misunderstood creatures. These things are tied to an ancient vegetation god named Ganó, who was said to steal and eat children. In this episode, we break down the legend of the Ganokos and how it's still very real to the Rarámuri today. We'll go through their deep history, the culture they've protected for centuries, and the places they still refuse to go, because something might be waiting. We're talking about modern sightings, missing people, and what the Ganokos could actually be—giants, guardians, or something even worse. This one's packed. Saludos! In this special on the road episode of the Road Dog Podcast, Luis finds himself deep in the Copper Canyons with the Tarahumara Indians. Listen in as Luis interacts with locals, witnesses a local running game called Rarájipari, records musicians, and gets in way over his head. Rarájipari is a running game played by the Tarahumara (also known as the Rarámuri) people of the Copper Canyons region in Chihuahua, Mexico.[1] The game is played by two teams of four or more players. One member of each team takes a wooden baseball-sized ball and kicks the ball ahead. The members of that team then chase after the ball, pick it up then kick it again. This is usually done for several miles in the casual games. However, in the serious inter-village contests, held after all-night parties, during which much of the Tarahumara corn beer, Tesgüino or Tejuino, is enjoyed by all, the games will often go for distances of 100 miles. Once the game starts, one runner on each team usually pulls into the front and always takes care of the ball. However, after a few miles or after the ball rolls under an outcrop of rock in the canyons, the rest of the team is able to catch up and the front runner is able to fall back into the main group and rest. The game ends when one team finishes the distance agreed upon by both teams prior to the start of the race. Support Road Dog Podcast by: 1. The Principles of War - Lessons from Military History on Strategy, Tactics and Leadership.

He was later the Commanding Officer of 8/9 RAR between 1988 and 1990. This episode continues our Kokoda Campaign Podcast series. The training, doctrine and tactics used in Vietnam are a legacy of the expensive lessons learnt in the jungles of New Guinea. Gary discusses the Battle of Nui Le, a part of Op Ivanhoe. Gary shares his reflections on leadership, with some excellent thoughts for Junior Officers and SNCOs. Endurance activities, like distance running, have existed since ancient times. But humans' relationship to those pursuits has changed, according to time and place. In the West, we've currently turned endurance sports into a science — tracking every metric and chasing personal records through sophisticated technology and personalized training plans. But as my guest, who's spent years studying the running cultures in different societies, knows well, this modern, individualized, data-driven approach isn't the only way to pursue the art of endurance.Michael Crawley is a competitive runner, social anthropologist, and the author of To the Limit. On the show today, we first examine how Western athletes have "workified" running through technology and social media. We then look at how other cultures approach running differently, including why East African runners emphasize group training over individual goals and how the Rarámuri people of Mexico incorporate spiritual dimensions into their running. We end our conversation with how we might rediscover more meaningful, holistic ways to approach our own physical pastimes.Resources Related to the PodcastAoM Podcast #1,021: You Were Born to RunBorn to Run by Christopher McDougallConnect With Michael CrawleyMichael on XMichael on IGMichael's faculty page

It specifically looks at how Australian soldiers were prepared for combat in the jungle and also looks at what makes jungle combat one of the most difficult types of terrain to fight in. As you are listening to Gary's story, compare that with the soldiers from the Second World War fighting the early jungle battles. The legacy of those hard won lessons on the Kokoda Track can clearly be heard in Gary's story. "Marley was dead, to begin with."That is one of the most famous first lines in English literature. It comes from A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, which is perhaps the greatest Christmas ghost story ever told. What is it that speaks to so many of us about this story of Scrooge and his ghosts?Today I want to talk about what makes this story so beloved and enduring–from its original bestselling release in 1843 through countless adaptations–to the place of fondness and tradition it has in so many of our homes today. In this episode, you'll hear from RAR Premium members; Joe Sutphin, who did the beautiful illustrations for Little Christmas Carol; Samantha Silva, author of Mr. Dickens and His Carol; and some RAR kids on the lasting impact of Dickens's tale and what they love so much about A Christmas Carol. In this episode, you'll hear: Why we love A Christmas Carol as a read-aloud for the whole familyHow Joe Sutphin illustrated and populated Scrooge's world for Little Christmas CarolThe real backstory of why Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol, which inspired Samantha Silva's novelLearn more about Sarah Mackenzie:Read-Aloud RevivalWaxwing BooksSubscribe to the NewsletterFind the rest of the show notes at: readaloudrevival.com/all-about-a-christmas-carol Get Christmas SchoolOrder a copy of Beyond Mulberry Glen by January 7, 2025 to get your free gifts!

“Peak power for healthspan is the metric that matters more than any others. It's power that's getting you up the stairs, out of the chair, and helping you walk across the street,” says Troy Taylor, the Vice President of Performance Innovation at Tonal. He discusses how focusing on power can keep us moving and independent as we age. It isn't just all about strength, but using fitness tools to unlock power—something that's essential for real-life functionality. And thanks to innovations in AI-powered home workouts, like those Tonal offers, it's easier than ever to train for both. Troy joins Dr. Andrew Fix in this episode to talk about how cutting-edge fitness technology is changing the way we approach home workouts. With years of experience working with Olympic athletes, Troy shares how the principles of consistency and intentional effort apply to anyone trying to hit their fitness goals, whether you're at an elite level or just working out at home. But what does it really take to make fitness a long-term habit? How can technology keep you engaged and progressing, even when motivation wanes? Tonal's innovative design makes it possible to get real-time feedback on your performance, adjust weights automatically, and even ensure you're lifting safely—features that help overcome the common challenges of working out alone at home. Tune in to learn how fitness and technology intersect to create a smarter, more effective way to train. Whether you're looking to get stronger, more powerful, or just stay consistent, this episode shows how AI-powered fitness is reshaping home gyms and helping people achieve lasting results. Quotes “What separates the very best from maybe the lesser athletes in terms of ultimate performance is consistency over time. Less off days in training, less off days in competition, and maintaining that over a very long period of time.” (05:56 | Troy Taylor) “What Tono does is similar to a trainer—it lets you know when something was too easy and pushes you to keep going. Our average weight for 10 reps is 75% of one-rep max, which puts you in a one to three RAR range. As you get stronger, we'll continue to progress you.” (17:58 | Troy Taylor) “My days of wanting to spend or having the ability to spend four hours in the gym just churning out, that window passed for me a few years ago. I did live it for probably longer than most people get to. But even when I go out there, I'm like, ‘I still know the benefits of this. I just want to get the maximum effect, not in the minimum time, but certainly in a short time window. I want to be really time efficient with my training schedule.'” (21:48 | Troy Taylor) “The fact that I literally have, when I hang up this podcast Zoom call, I have no excuses not to work out. It's literally there. There is no time that it's going to take me to get gym clothes and go to the gym.” (24:19 | Troy Taylor) “Peak power for healthspan is the metric that matters more than any others.
