South Africa cannot carry Africa's migration burden alone. This is according to Tshepo Matseba , Managing Director of Reputation 1st Group, a South African advisory firm specialising in reputation management, strategic communication and public policy engagement. He says South Africans are living with real and visible pressures, many of which are intensified by porous borders and weak immigration enforcement. He further adds that the deeper problem is that South Africa is attempting to manage a continental migration challenge as if it were a purely domestic issue. To unpack this Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Tshepo Matseba , Managing Director of Reputation 1st Group

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 5, 2025 2:25

It's always a joy to hear from our podcast listeners and a few months ago I had an email from Childrens Advocate Tshepo Mantjie  -  he got sober by listening to a Tribe Sober podcast episode - every day for 100 days! Not only did it work for Tshepo but it inspired us to develop our own 100 Day Playlist which guides you along a logical pathways - sign up for it here.   In this episode:- shepo's first encounters with alcohol began at age 16 but were limited due to strict parents. However, university life introduced him to a drinking culture where alcohol was integral to socializing and stress relief. While at university, his drinking escalated, especially during his LLB studies, where binge drinking became normalized and part of coping with academic pressures. Tshepo tried using “the rules" to control his drinking, like avoiding certain types of alcohol and limiting who he drank with, but these rules were always broken after the first few drinks. Realizing the detrimental impact of alcohol on his well-being, Tshepo attempted several "Ocsobers" but by August 2022, after another failed attempt at long-term sobriety, he realized he needed more support In early 2023, Tshepo found the Tribe Sober podcast, which provided him with community stories, practical advice, and relatable experiences that supported his commitment to sobriety. His strategy was to listen to a Tribe Sober podcast daily for 100 days, journaling, yoga, mindfulness, nature, and sharing his goals with friends to create accountability. Tshepo emphasized the importance of supportive relationships, both with drinking and non-drinking friends, and building deeper connections beyond alcohol. His Benefits of Sobriety included enhanced mental clarity, physical health, a calmer inner voice, and stronger relationships. Sobriety allowed him to feel more authentically connected to himself and his community. So if you've been inspired by Tsepo's 100 day strategy just click on this link to learn more. On Hands-On Mac, Mikah answers questions about Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 WARP app and VPNs, whether there's a program to help remove duplicate music files on a computer, and the best cloud storage option for a viewer! Susan writes in, asking how Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 + WARP works vs traditional VPNs and which is more secure. D A is looking for an application that can find and remove duplicate music files on their computer and play his music continuously off his computer & a USB drive. Tshepo is using their iPad Pro with a MacBook Air using Duet Display but is looking for a way to prevent the MacBook from charging the iPad while connected. Jason has multiple cloud storage solutions and wants to trim them down to just one offering. He's also looking for an easy way to transfer the files from one cloud provider to another when consolidating. Andrius will soon be getting an iCloud subscription and understands that iCloud only syncs the Desktop and Documents folders. He wants to know if he moves his Music folder into one of those folders, is there a way to keep the playlists he has set up in Apple Music intact? JournalismAI's Tshepo Tshabalala on practical AI use cases for small newsrooms

On this week's episode of Media Voices we hear from Tshepo Tshabalala, project manager & team lead at the LSE's JournalismAI project. Rather than focusing on the negative coverage and speculation we so often hear about AI replacing journalism jobs, Tshepo tells us about uses cases and the benefits of AI in smaller newsrooms and how collaboration is helping journalists get on board the AI rocket ship. Tshepo joined the JournalismAI project just three months after ChatGPT went public. Some might call that perfect timing; for others it would be a nightmare, with the playing field changing week by week. He's taken it all in his stride, however, telling us, “It was a rollercoaster… trying to learn the job, trying to understand the field and understand who the players are, also serving our audience and our users that need help. But growth doesn't happen in a comfortable space.” Knowledge-sharing is at the heart of everything the JournalismAI project does, from the JournalismAI Starter Pack, designed to help news organisations understand the opportunities offered by AI, to the 2023 JournalismAI report surveying 105 newsrooms in 46 countries. Tshepo says, “It's really just sharing knowledge, and then with the hope that they can decide thereafter, what they do with that knowledge.” In the news roundup the team discusses Sydney Sweeney, at length. They also discuss the disparity between how much journalists and creators get paid versus the shareholders of media companies, the news that GB News made an enormous loss last year, and ask whether it's good or bad for TalkTV to be going digital-only on YouTube. Tshepo Mahloko heads up the Co-Innovation Lab for SAP. He leads a team dedicated to developing groundbreaking applications for software and technology. Yet, it's his inspiring journey to his career as a technologist that truly serves as a foundation for his current vision as a leader. Growing up in South Africa, he began to hone his skills as an innovator from a young age, experimenting with ways to pair technological prowess with an unwavering passion for social good. He ultimately found early success applying his abilities by leading grassroots initiatives that employed technology to help alleviate poverty within his community. These formative experiences helped mold his abilities as a problem solver while further reinforcing his ability to lead within a highly competitive field. So I invited him on the podcast to share his story, which began with the African way of innovation and how it led him to the global company lSAP. About Co-Innovation Lab for SAP Have you ever wondered how many liters of water it takes to create one liter of mineral water? Or what happens when you have to stop a sugar mill because there is a shortage in the delivery of sugar cane? Can a repair centre safely retread a particular truck tire without impacting the tire warranty? The SAP Co-Innovation Lab provisions and delivers co-innovation services and project environments from currently 16 locations worldwide. Each location uniquely reflects regional nuances while offering the same degree of professionalism and co-innovation experience.

Dr Tshepo Motsepe, South Africa's First Lady and Patron of the Early Care Foundation, shares her thoughts and passion about the importance of early care for children. ECF is an organisation dedicated to increasing access to early childhood development in disadvantaged areas through upskilling women and providing support for home based creches. The Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated this already fragile sector. Thousands of parents and early care practitioners have lost their jobs, which also means that thousands of children in vulnerable communities lose their access to safe, educational early care facilities and the associated daily nutrition the creche provides. Early Care Foundation has launched #NoOneLeftBehind campaign to help get at least 1000 children back into a stimulating learning environment and providing a roadmap for women back into employment. www.cliffcentral.com
