National Black Brewers Association (NB2A) executive director Kevin Asato explains how obstacles have mounted for the trade group's members as diversity, equity and inclusion efforts have come under fire during the Trump administration.    “The beautiful thing is, I was Black yesterday. I'm Black today. And god willing I wake up tomorrow, I'll be Black tomorrow,” he said. “The point being, just because there isn't a tagline like DEI available, doesn't mean our challenges and our need for diversity and our need to help our Black brewers in this space has gone away. Nothing has changed. Not a single thing has changed for our space here.”   Asato shares with Brewbound managing editor Jess Infante how the NB2A is supporting its 86 Black-owned brewery members and its nearly 400 overall members during a special bonus edition of the Brewbound Podcast. He also explains why equipment donations have been key for up-and-coming Black breweries, teases ancient grain fonio's potential inclusion in Volume 3 of the Black is Beautiful collaboration efforts and talks about why some retailers are doubling-down on diverse brands.    Following the conversation with Asato, Yonder Cider founder Caitlin Braam joins Brewbound senior reporter Zoe Licata to explain how experimenting with events at her brand's taproom has broadened her hard cider brand's consumer base.    A shared taproom partnership with craft beer brand Bale Breaker has also helped Yonder breakthrough with new audiences, she explains. It's all about “not being exclusive” and “making spaces and places for various audiences, not just one.”   “There isn't just one audience for your brand. There are many. Chinees Indisch restaurant Azië aan de Peperstraat in Zaandam dreigt ten prooi te vallen aan de sloopkogel. Wooncorporatie ZVH heeft de huurovereenkomst opgezegd. Vrijwel alle panden langs de Peperstraat worden gesloopt om ruimte te maken voor nieuwbouw. Het restaurant zit al ruim 50 jaar op deze plek, de familie Hu zit 10 jaar in restaurant Azië. Buurtbewoners en andere sympathisanten hebben inmiddels meer dan 800 handtekeningen verzameld waarmee zij de familie steunen en ZVH oproepen te helpen bij een oplossing. Roland van Braam zal deze handtekeningen, namens de familie, op 1 oktober overhandigen aan de directie van ZVH. Het maken van een afspraak daarvoor ging niet zonder slag of stoot. The Seattle-based rock band launched in 2014 with founding members Whitney Petty on guitar and Molly Sides on vocals, and today, their all-women lineup also includes bassist Leah Julius and drummers Lindsey Elias and Michelle Nuno. We have Whitney with us on the podcast to talk about the band's origins and journey over the past 10 years, which culminated with a collaborative release with Yonder Cider. Caitlin Braam is the founder and CEO of Yonder Cider and The Source, Yonder's sister company that provides custom pressing, juicing, and fermenting solutions for cideries around the United States. She joins Whitney to talk about Yonder's first collaboration with a band—what they expected, what surprised them, and how the whole thing shook out. Thunderpussy happens to be the favorite band of Yonder's head cider maker, Monique Tribble, and the release was an opportunity for everyone to fangirl out on one another with delicious results.  You'll hear about how both women-led groups have strategically avoided dealing with male energy in their often overpoweringly masculine fields of music and alcohol, and how even acknowledging that aspect has changed over the years. Whitney shares her excitement to dive deeper into the world of cider, and echoes the same joy that I think a lot of new cider drinkers are surprised to find once they give it a chance. This is Braam's second appearance on the podcast with his first being episode 081. The reason I brought him back on the show this time was to talk specifically about apprenticeship. Braam is a United States veteran. He started his working career in commercial fishing then guiding in Alaska. This led him to find a home in the power line industry. The announcement of the closure of Educor institutions Damelin, CityVarsity, Icesa City Campus on Friday has shocked the sector and left students and parents in limbo Students at the Damelin College in Braamfontein have been left in the dark about the deregistration of Educor colleges by the higher education department. According to the department these Educor institutions had not submitted annual financial statements in 2021 or 2022 or complied with the law. TimesLIVE Premium spoke to various students at Damelin Braamfontein campus on Tuesday, with most saying they hope they will be reimbursed for the funds they have paid the institution.
