Session two under the title ‘Is voyeurism the great sin of the 21 st century' looks at an example of an exhortation in 1 Corinthians 10 by the Apostle Paul which is hard up against his instruction on correct conduct at a memorial meeting in chapter 11. We will examine the way in which Paul connects his exhortation to the behaviour of ancient Israel and see how it can be projected into our present day. The exhortation is particularly hard hitting and one not likely to meet with approval as being ‘acceptable for exhortation' in some quarters. It is a pervasive sin affecting men and women, young and old and should be part of challenging exhortations from time to time from ecclesial platforms. However, it is very likely to be considered ‘not appropriate for exhortation'.

First, we've got the ultimate voyeuristic spectacle with Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece REAR WINDOW (1954), the first work from the Master of Suspense we've featured on this show, and we've only been at it for nearly three years now. What is up with that??? Jimmy Stewart J.B. "Jeff" Jeffries, a news photographer whose broken leg has left him nothing to do but stare out the back window of his Greenwich Village apartment into all the apartments of his neighbors. He gets so obsessed by the idea that one of these neighbors, Lars Thorwald (Raymond Burr) murdered his wife, that Jeff won't even make out with his way-too-young fashionista girlfriend, Lisa Fremont (Grade Kelly), vexing Ajax to no end. Fortunately for Jeff and Lisa's relationship, she cannot resist the pull of true crime, and soon becomes just as obsessed with her man's suspicions as he is. With immaculate wardrobe by Edith Head and a whole New York block recreated on a Paramount soundstage. Possibly the greatest film from the greatest director. REAR WINDOW is part of Criterion Channel's "Photographer's Gaze" series. For our second feature, we go all the way to Egypt for director Youssef Chahine's CAIRO STATION (1958) where the director plays Qinawi, a handicapped newspaper vendor who becomes obsessed with Hanuma (Hind Rustum--the Marilyn Monroe of the Middle East), a voluptuous beauty who makes her living by selling cold soft drinks to thirsty travelers without a permit. After being rejected by Hanuma, Qinawi soon takes inspiration from sensationalist news stories telling of a serial killer who chops up women and leaves their remains in trunks. Reviled by Egyptian audiences and critics when it was originally released but now considered a classic, it is filmed in a neorealist style that captures the sweat and dust of the Cairo Station of its time. Also look out for a surprise rockin' musical number. CAIRO STATION is part of Criterion Channel's Youssef Chahine series. We should've titled this episode "MALE GAZE" because Bob goes into way too much detail about Grace Kelly's sex life, Ngaio talks about his love of titties in movies, and Ajax wishes these films had higher body counts. This week on Erotic Thriller Club we are chatting Brian De Palma's homage to Hitchcock. Do some dogs go to hell? Would you star in a porno to solve the case? Do you believe in g-g-g-ghouls??

Somehow, we limit ourselves to only five strips this episode. Seems impossible, but we actually did it. Brooke (Dillman) found a short run on one topic that, while only five-strips in length, carried all the fury-inducing content of a dozen or more ordinary strips. The journey begins with Ginger (Xiulan's friend whom we met at Xiulan's wedding to Hugh) and Gerald (the guy from the wedding she's now apparently involved with), who is apparently her boss. She seduces him on his own desk and Xiulan walks in on them, informing them that all of the people in the building next door are watching them with binoculars. Neither of them has so much as unbuttoned one button, so they're as covered up as can be, but somehow this behavior is enough to encourage dozens of people to get their binoculars out of their desks (naturally, I suppose?) so they can watch them. Everything gets kicked up a notch when Edda and Amos try to introduce Fleurrie and Sven to Xiulan and Hugh. The simple introduction of couples results immediately in Fleurrie and Xiulan simultaneously sticking their tongues out at each other. Fleurrie adds, while she does so, "Mine's bigger," referring obviously to the size of her husband. Sven then asks Fleurrie about what he thought he heard her say, which was "mine's's bigger," which of course makes no sense and no one would ever say. Fleurrie assures him it was only a typo and the editor caught it. Sven is stunned to discover they have an editor (as are we), so stunned in fact that his eyes point in two different directions. Xiulan then sends a question to Uncle Ethel (Thorax), asking for clarification the apostrophe's in the word "mine's's" which she claims to have heard used recently. But of course no one said "mine's's" around her at all. She types her question to Uncle Ethel on her computer and he responds immediately from his manual typewriter, sending back a single character, which is either a comma or an apostrophe. Neither would work as a punchline, of course, and neither really makes any sense. But that's par for the course in a run of strips where two people talk about a contraction that literally no one said. I mean, what the fuck? Welcome to episode #185! This week, Matt and Braden talk with Mark, who went through Pure Freedom Journey and 1:1 Coaching with Matt. Mark's story of redemption is incredible.Abuse and neglect at a young ageMark was physically and sexually abused as a child, both of which confused him. The sexual abuse was a violation, but because it felt good, he was left confused wondering about who and what he was attracted to. His father was not complimentary or loving towards him, but would instead try to make Mark like things he didn't enjoy or excel at - and then he would follow that up by putting Mark down.Arrested at 35Mark was arrested at 35 years old while living in a small town with a professional occupation. His arrest was due to voyeurism as he tried to look for situations that mirrored the abuse and same-sex sexual encounters he had as a young child. The abuse in his childhood years was the only place he felt comfort or accepted, so in seeking those things, he crossed legal lines and put others at risk. Because of this, he lost everything in his life and had to start fresh in another town.Jesus redeemsAt 50 years old, Mark experienced the love of God in a new way and started realizing why he did the things he did. It led to healing from shame and self-condemnation and in place, the love of God was able to reside in his heart in a new way. God opened doors for him to get support from places like Restored Ministries and then start sharing his story publicly. When he was a child, he witnessed someone being abused and always carried guilt for not doing anything to stop it. Recently, he was praying for that person and they reached out to have a meal together.
