Is this an accurate description of a generation of youngsters who can’t cope with the world or a bullying phrase used by older people to dismiss youngsters concerns? Mark & Nadia interrogate the ways in which the term is used - how it’s gone from something quite lighthearted to something that can be deeply controlling and misogynistic in some circles. Are we actually creating more of a problem by even using the term? Find out answers to these questions and many more in this episode of Confessions of A Modern Parent. They take questions and suggestions from listeners on their experiences in parenting roles. This Episode is pre-recorded. The UCP stands against all forms of injustices brought unto the Nigerian people by the embarrassment that is SARS, as well as their employers, the Nigerian Government. We urge all our listeners to continue to take their stand for justice. #ENDSARS | https://t.co/UYXUpWCnOW?amp=1This week we launch straight into “Are we raising a generation of bums” (08:05). We then reflect on being the CEO vs the employee, “How would you feel if you were CEO of a company and your employers constantly slacked off” (15:20). Does not caring about being right come with maturity or is it an easy way out (22:15). “I inherited ancestral anger…it is not a joke”, Then we go on a slight tangential drive down Rocky’s childhood (27:54). "The harsh reality is that maybe your personality does not work with situationships" We then end unpacking why Damini finds himself in situation-ship trouble.

In this day and age, it's definitely not easy to find work-life balance especially with how fast-paced everything has become. We talk to Mei Ling, who we think has mastered the art of work-life balance to learn how to unplug from the stresses of work and life and how we should be intentional about giving ourselves the rest we deserve. We also talk about the rise of the snowflake generation and how the hustle has changed over the years.

Although he writes from a secular perspective, Jonathan Haidt’s books on moral psychology such as ‘The Righteous Mind’ have been praised by many evangelical Christians. His latest title is ‘The Coddling Of The American mind: How good intentions and bad ideas are setting up a generation for failure.’ Church leader and theologian Andrew Wilson is a fan of Haidt’s work. They discuss safe spaces, micro-aggressions, free speech, the Bible and the intersection of evolutionary psychology and faith. The anti-bullying movement has been full throttle for 18 years since Columbine shooting in 1999. The efforts to stop students from becoming victims of bullying have been solely focused on changing the world around the victim to create a less hostile environment. This has failed. Brooks Gibbs has flipped the approach to bullying and empowers victims to be emotionally resilient so they are not hurt in the first place. This is a simple solution to a complex problem and the only approach that can keep children from killing themselves or others in retaliation. So we will be contrasting a direct versus indirect approach to help kids. A legal versus psychological approach. In defence of the snowflake generation. What is missing? What causes the challenges? Why is expectation crippling them? Why are university progression rates so bad?
“Anxiety has increased.” Dr. Kevin Chapman joins The MindSide Podcast for the second time to discuss the rise in anxiety in a want-to-be-perfect society. The world increasingly places more pressure on society every day. Everyone wants to be perfect and everyone wants to be successful, but people rarely release that in success is often based on perspective. Performance is starting to define a player's identity. This is a trap. Dr. Bhrett McCabe refers to this generation as the “Snowflake Generation” because the people living in this world are trying so hard to be perfect. Chapman explains how younger athletes are expected to be adults and completely matured for the sake of the team's success. This is a contributing factor to the rise in anxiety among young athletes, “They simply don't know how to deal with a failing event.” Every performer needs to have a failure response system. This podcast episode exposes the real impact high anxiety is having in the world today. We hope you enjoy this podcast episode as much as we have enjoyed recording it.
