About Annika: Annika Mang is a content creator, storyteller, writer, and photographer. Her book, Hikes for Families: A Guide to the Canadian Rockies has over 45 family-friendly hikes. In 2014, she created the Born to Explore Adventurous platform founded on the belief that “Adventuring does not end when you have children, it is only the beginning.” She has lived all over Western Canada with her family, including three months in a van! Although she hiked as a kid herself, her love for hiking really flourished in University. She has recently started a new initiative called Trail Collectiv, that determines difficulty level of hikes in 5 different categories, making it more clear for families what is accessible to them! She also shares which hikes are friendly for all-terrain strollers.   Annika loves rock climbing, because it allows her and her family to see nature from a new perspective.   Starting Rock Climbing with Your Kids: Get certified [Annika took the Outdoor Climbing Course through the Calgary Climbing Gym – they used an ACMG Certified Instructor] Be able to climb a 5.10 in the gym Learn to create proper anchors and how to set up with proper etiquette Pick a location with smooth ground and not a lot of rock fall Check in with locals from the area for suggestions Always think of safety first!   Make It Happen: Bring your kids by 2-years-old up to a hold to “hang” Let your kids see you enjoying it! Since his days fronting Hüsker Dü, Bob Mould has been one of hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot's favorite politically-minded artists. His latest album may be his most directly political and he returns to the show to discuss it. Then we hear the story of the English space rock band Hawkwind from author Joe Banks. Bob Mould, "American Crisis," Blue Hearts, Merge, 2020Bob Mould, "Camp Sunshine," Sunshine Rock, Merge, 2019Bob Mould, "Heart On My Sleeve," Blue Hearts, Merge, 2020Tom Robinson Band, "Glad to be Gay," Rising Free, EMI, 1978Stiff Little Fingers, "Suspect Device," Suspect Device (Single), Rigid Digits, 1978D.O.A., "The Enemy," Something Better Change, Alternative Tentacles, 1980Bob Mould, "Next Generation," Blue Hearts, Merge, 2020Bob Mould, "Leather Dreams," Blue Hearts, Merge, 2020Hawkwind, "Silver Machine," Silver Machine (Single), United Artists, 1972Hawkwind, "Master of the Universe," In Search of Space, United Artists, 1971Hawkwind, "Seven By Seven," In Search of Space, United Artists, 1971Hawkwind, "Paranoia, Pt. 1," Hawkwind, Liberty, 1970Hawkwind, "Hurry On Sundown," Queens of the Stone Age, Loosegroove, 1998Hawkwind, "Orgone Accumulator," Space Ritual, United Artists, 1973Hawkwind, "The Awakening," Space Ritual, United Artists, 1973Sleep, "Jerusalem," Jerusalem, The Music Cartel, 1999Queens of the Stone Age, "Spiders and Vinegaroons," Queens of the Stone Age, Loosegroove, 1998beabadoobee, "Worth It," Fake It Flowers, Dirty Hit, 2020

He's an ikon of the 70s, 80s and 90s in Alternative Rock and he is non-stop on the run: Bob Mould of Hüsker Dü and Sugar. In 2019 he released his record Sunshine Rock, now the next one is already to be released in September - more aggressive, socio-critical and very personal. But Mould is also working on the release for his super deluxe boxset Distortion: 1989 - 2019. All you need to know about the busy mastermind in this episode - enjoy!

FaceCulture: Giving You The People Behind The Music

Sometimes when I go into these interviews I do not fully comprehend the impact the musician in question has had on the development of not only their style of music, but also on their listeners as well. Bob Mould definitely falls in this category. Not only his work with Hüsker Dü in the 80s, but also with Sugar in the 90s and now his solo work, has inspired countless musicians and fans all over the world, and continues to do so. Bob was gracious enough to answer some questions about his past work, including why Hüsker Dü fell apart and the rock scene back then, before moving towards his most recent solo album Sunshine Rock. It was an absolute pleasure.By: Robin HignellSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/FaceCulture)

Indie rock icon Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü, Sugar) discusses his creative journey -- a childhood obsessing over jukebox 45s he got from his dad, his experiences in the Minneapolis/St. Paul punk scene, his current life in Berlin -- and how those touchstones inform his excellent new album, Sunshine Rock. Also featured: an excerpt of a backstage interview with gospel and R&B legend Mavis Staples at Lollapalooza 2010.

On the latest Kyle Meredith With…, Bob Mould discusses growing up in the sixties and why he often chooses to begin the day with a book about Joni Mitchell or The Beatles rather than with the news. The songwriter and musician also touches on working with an 18-piece orchestra on Sunshine Rock, making “light records” versus “dark records,” and why he decided to include a cover on his new solo record for the first time in his career.
