In this week's episode of Kaizoku Uncharted, we're going off course, discussing A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring. This show was Jakia's recommendation. Tune in to hear Justin and Jakia's thoughts on this show. Why did Jakia suggest this anime? Are there too many shenanigans? Does Justin think these are just some biscuit-headed kids constantly getting in the way, or will they actually pull their weight?

This week, we had a fantastic discussion with Richard Faulkner, whom I have wanted on the show for a long time. Retired teacher and business owner who lived in Hillsborough. This ended up being part one of a two-part episode. We discuss Baymount Outdoor Adventures and how that came about. Kayaking in the Bay of Fundy at Hopewell Rocks and the experience of the tour before and after High tide. Cave tours at White Rock, hiking, and much more. A fascinating story about the land where White Rock is now and how it came into the hands of Caledonia High School. That land was used to make a beautiful Orienteering map that has been used for years by Orienteers from all over the world. Most important is the teaching Richard did in Caledonia. Richard felt there should be an educational component to all the activities offered at the school, and he succeeded. We finish this episode off with a story about an activity that was created by a student at Caledonia. How it became so popular with everyone. There is so much in this episode, we hope you come back and listen to part 2 next week.Baymount Outdoor Adventures:https://www.baymountadventures.com/Motivate to Move email:motivatetomove.podcast@gmail.comMotivate to Move Facebook page, check us out.https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100041607699495Remember to give the gift of life and donate blood today.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/motivate-to-move--4528736/support.

Juraj Koreň is an expert alpine climber and pilot from Slovakia who has been chasing some very extreme (often solo) adventures around the world for the last decade, including his 7 "virgin summits" attempt to climb and fly off the world's highest peaks. We begin this conversation discussing his experience in the 2019 Red Bull X-Alps and how mistakes in his first race have guided his last five years of preparations for his second race this June. They discuss the challenges of solo climbing and the importance of understanding mortality in adventure sports. Juraj reflects on his experiences, including a harrowing solo climb of the north face of the Eiger and the mental battles faced during the Red Bull X-Alps race. We discuss the addictive nature of extreme sports, the lessons learned from past experiences, and the importance and intrigue of solo missions for personal growth and reflection.

In this episode I had the pleasure to chat with Sally about her journey through personal mental health challenges, and how she turned her unique surname into a connection to talking about mental health (all whilst conquering some incredible adventures along the way). Sally is an inspirational speaker and happy to bring her unique approach to changing the lives of those she engages with. She absolutely brightened my day during our recording. She is the only person on the planet to complete a marathon on every continent in fancy dress (as different pieces of fruit!), which gives you a flavour of her colourful personality. Greetings, esteemed Cabalists, and well met upon this fine occasion of another discourse from the Lords of the Dungeon. Today, the Lords doth speak of the final chapter in their most revered Shadowrun campaign, which now draweth to its close, and the commencement of a new journey within the realm of Pathfinder. Thereafter, they turn their attentions to the matter of forming a band of adventurers. With great care, they discuss the gathering of the party, and how they might craft a fellowship that is unified in both spirit and purpose, ensuring that all may partake in the adventure with joy and harmony, each role complementing the other, so as to maximize the delight of all involved.
How we continue to remember September 11 THE INTERVIEW Marine Corps veteran, endurance athlete, adventurer and author Akshay Nanavati has a picture of a friend he lost in war on his wall and under it he wrote, “This should have been you. Earn this life." This was the fuel to write his book, "Fearvana: The Revolutionary Science of How to Turn Fear into Health, Wealth and Happiness" in order to help others navigate their own suffering and turn it into nirvana, turn it into bliss. It is also fuel for his own extreme adventuring. In November, Nanavati will begin a 110-day, 1,700-mile solo trek across Antarctica, wher he'll ski for 10 to 12 hours a day hauling a 400-pound sled full of supplies and become the single most isolated being on the planet. He shares how he has been preparing for the grueling physical and mental challenges he will face along the way. In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, we are joined by Cam Bostock. With more than 600K Followers, Cam is a bonafide Instagram hiking celebrity. Cam teaches us all about his home, the great country of Australia, including his adventures on the Bibbulmun Track and Munda Biddi Trail, in addition to how often someone needs to fistfight a kangaroo, the frequency of deadly snake encounters, and other stereotypically dumb American questions. We also learn all about Cam's PCT trek, including all that goes into creating a polished Instagram Reel for every day of his hike, his favorite moments from the trail, and the biggest cultural differences between hiking in the US and Australia. We wrap the show with an overview of our time at PCT Trail Days, hint: we were dangerously close to Thunder Island Brewing, if Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are odd or even, and the triple crown of meat. AJ Tesler, an award-winning producer and director who, along with his wife Jenny, is launching Magnolia's Guide to Adventuring, a new documentary video series created with support from Acadia Pharmaceuticals, inspired by their daughter Magnolia's experience with the rare genetic neurodevelopmental disease Rett syndrome. We're also joined by Dr. Cary Fu, a pediatric neurologist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, who emphasizes the need for early diagnosis. The video series highlights the adventures children with Rett syndrome can engage in. While Cary emphasizes the importance of safety and consulting with specialists before pursuing an adventure, AJ and Cary encourage people to recognize the capabilities of children with Rett and focus on what they can do. AJ explains, "We made a documentary about that experience and those initial steps that we took called Magnolia's Hope, which is available on iTunes and Amazon streaming, as well as a bunch of other places. And in that documentary, my wife so sagely presents it as we want to make sure that when there's a cure, she'll have stories to tell. That's an inspiring way to think about all of this. Her story does not just have to be about Rett syndrome. It doesn't have to be about all the things that she can't do. It can be about all the things that you can do." "Beyond that, it was also about finding families to come along on these adventures with us. Some of the families are adventurous and have tried these things before. Some of them have never done any of these things before. That was part of the creative vision for the entire thing, which was to show that no matter what your disability is, no matter where on the spectrum you are, as long as a doctor says that it's okay to do these things, then, by all means, there are organizations that can help you do these things." Cary elaborates, "I wouldn't say it's necessarily unusual, but I do think that what AJ and Jenny have done with their family is very inspiring. I think families come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. I think the important thing is I encourage all of my families with Rett syndrome to make sure not to allow the diagnosis to define them. To make sure that whatever expectations they had as a family before the diagnosis was made and before they realized that there would be potential limitations and need to make modifications, they should feel free to pursue those things that they wanted, the hopes that they wanted for their child." #RettSyndrome #MagnoliasGuideToAdventuring" #AdventuringWithMagnolia #RettRevealed #AdaptiveSports #AdaptiveAdventures #RareDisease RettRevealed.com Download the transcript here

In this week's episode Alex breaks down his thoughts on the connections between Space & Sea Travel! It's amazing what being on an adventure in a beautiful place like Scotland can do for your imagination and deep thinking. All the island (isle) hopping we did, along with hiking the highlands and the lowlands, made me see just how similar sea travel is with space travel! The same small crews of professionals taking us to from island to isle in Scotland will be taking humans to low Earth Orbit, the Moon, and eventually Mars! The first days (years) of regular, continuous human spaceflight will be adventurous, and will require small, highly dedicated teams of trained Astronauts. Adventuring through Scotland brought that time to my imagination - so let's talk about how we get there! So buckle up, and get ready for a ride as we venture to the potentially near-future of human spaceflight. We want to hear what YOU think about what's to come in our near future with human spaceflight! So make sure to COMMENT below, EMAIL us at todayinspacepodcast@gmail.com, or DM US on social media.
