Welcome! This week we have a special guest, Megan Vogt-Kostner. Megan is the Senior Research Analyst in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness & Planning at the University of Northern Iowa. She answers all my Qualtrics questions and moreQuestion of the week: What is your favorite holiday and why?Holidays are great opportunities to spend time with those you love, so are one-on-ones-- which is how this week's episode began. Mike P and Brendan desperately want a one-on-one. Katie talks about how she is unsure if her one-on-ones should be used to grow the current relationships she has or to explore new ones. We get a bit of an insight into which way she leans when she invites Greg on the first one-on-one of the week. Greg date: Seattle themed. They toss a fish and do unspeakable things to poor oysters. Greg is like Eyor but an Eyor you kinda wanna make out with. They seem like a normal couple. Meanwhile, Michael video chats with his young son, James, while drinking a mimosa. The group date card is announced, indicating that Mike P. has the final one-on-one. This has Brendan Bangs upset. He decides to pay Katie a visit in her room. His intentions with this visit seemed really unclear to me. Andrew, Justin, Blake and Michael have their group date. It begins with  vagina flower art painting???? Michael sculpts a butt. Andrew makes a dirty sushi picture. Justin is very serious about all this. And Blake's picture is so obscene they black it all out. Thoughts? That evening, Blake makes it clear that he is NOT in love with Katie but them falling in love is effin' inevitable. Thoughts?Bill's XC on emophilia Justin shows Katie his impressive painting. We are reminded that he was her first kiss on the Bachelorette. Then they make out. In her convo with Michael, Katie says that if they're meant to be together, then she's confident that everything else will fall into place. She thinks all the time about what it would mean to become a stepmom and the life she pictures herself, Michael, and James having together is “such a dream.” Intensive Mothering EC DanielleAndrew talks about his football career and being in Austria. Btw- I completely forgot about his weird on again off again accent this week. She says they will work things out down the road if he is picked. Michael get the rose. You can tell Andrew is hurt it wasn't him. The men are starting to show the wear and tear of the process a bit.Mike's One-on-One with Cuddle Queen Jean. This date was doomed. It is very awkward. Then if it couldn't get weirder, Mike starts comparing her cuddles to his mother's. (Insert wide eyes). Then Katie cries and sends Mike home. Rose ceremony. All of the internet is surprised (except for bill) when Katie sends Andrew home. They have a heartbreaking breakup. Katie isn't confident she made the right choice. The next morning, Andrew shows up at her door. He wanted to leave her smiling. They have a short conversation, he leaves and gives her a note on his way out. It reads, “If you change your mind, I'll be waiting.” Katie chases after him. They hug. Then she asks him to stay and he's like, “nah”. WHAT HAPPENED HERE? Oh yeah, and then they kiss and he leaves. Next week is hometowns. Katie hasn't told anyone she loves them. Everyone is kinda freaking. Lessons learned. Megan, any shoutouts?

Keys For Kids Ministries

Katie browsed through the toys at the church's huge indoor sale while her mom sorted through stacks of books. "Isn't it great that all the proceeds go toward the youth group mission trip?" she overheard her mom say to one of her friends who was volunteering at the sale. Then Katie saw it--an adorable grey-and-white-striped kitten that could move and meow and everything! She ran to her mom. "Mom! I found the toy I want to spend my money on. It's so cute!" Mom smiled. "Well, go get it!" Katie bounded back over to the toy table, then stopped short. Her face crumpled in dismay as she saw a woman pick up the kitten and place it into her brimming basket of items. Katie was heartbroken. But then she remembered that the whole point of the sale was to raise money to help tell others about Jesus. I can be kind instead of angry at that woman, she thought. Even though she took the toy I really want. Katie walked up to the woman. "Do you know how that kitten works?" she asked politely. She proceeded to show the woman how to press the kitten's nose to make it meow and how to get it to move. "Where's your toy, honey?" Mom asked when Katie came walking back. A tear trickled down Katie's cheek. "When I went back to get it, some lady was putting it in her basket." "I'm sorry, Katie. Perhaps she's buying it for a little girl who needs it." A few minutes later, the woman who bought the kitty toy walked up to Katie. She whispered something in her ear and handed her a bag. A smile lit Katie's face. "Thank you!" she exclaimed as the woman waved and walked away. "What's in the bag?" Mom asked curiously. Katie lifted the treasured kitty toy out of the bag. "She told me she could tell I wanted this toy when I came up to her and that she was touched by the kindness I showed her in letting her have it instead. She said she wanted me to have it as a reminder to keep showing others the kindness of Jesus." Mom smiled. "What a kind thing for her to do." Savannah Coleman How About You? Can you think of a time when someone was kind to you? Maybe it was a person you knew, or even someone you didn't know. How did it make you feel? When we put others before ourselves, we help them see what Jesus is like. He showed us the ultimate kindness in becoming human and dying for our sins. How can you show someone His kindness in your actions today? Today's Key Verse: Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. Republicans like Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker are freaking out about the “blue wave” that’s coming to that state, which Trump narrowly won in 2016, and Dan Savage, Rich Smith, and Eli Sanders are here to talk about why that’s just great. (And what you can do to make the coming blue wave even greater.) After that, Trump’s fact-free rage about migrant caravans. The president says he’s now sending the US military to guard the border with Mexico. Okay… But really, what does one even do with bluster this incoherent? Then, Katie Herzog talks about Sinclair Broadcast Group (aka “Trump TV”) and the Orwellian video that’s been going around of Sinclair anchors at local TV stations around the country all reading from the same “fake news” script. What to do? Boycott Sinclair? Encourage its reporters to quit en masse? Vote for people who will actually regulate Sinclair's use of the public airways? Katie, Dan, and Eli discuss. Finally, the Roseanne re-boot, reconsidered. Last week Katie, Dan, and Eli all had mostly positive things to say about the show. (Although a full 2/3 of them hadn’t even watched the re-boot yet!) This week, we hear a dramatic reading of comments from our Blabbermouth Podcast Facebook group arguing about whether or not people should watch Roseanne, given how “problematic” she is. Then Katie, Dan, and Eli talk about Roxanne Gay’s great column on all this in The New York Times. They also answer the question: "Will you keep watching?" Plus, as always, the music of Ahamefule J. Oluo!
