In this episode, we return to look into the 1970's phenomena of Power Records. These were audio stories with full casts, music and, in some cases, a comic book to read along with the story. Power Records held licensing for DC and Marvel Comics as well as TV shows The Six Million Dollar Man, Star Trek, Planet Of The Apes and Kojak (among others). In this installment we look at two of the 'creepier' stories from the world of Superheroes. One from DC and one from Marvel. We begin with BATMAN - The Scarecrow Corpse, and then MAN-THING - Night Of The Laughing Dead. We also have an update on the voice actors for Power Records, and have put some names to some characters! Special Thanks to Chris and Rob at the POWER RECORDS PODCAST (Found Here: http://fireandwaterpodcast.com/show/the-power-records-podcast/) as they have been relentless in their search as well. Also, as talked about in this episode, we are posting a link to a public radio podcast called "THIS AMERICAN LIFE": Episode #121 - Twentieth Century Man. This is the episode about Keith Aldrich featuring interviews with his 9 children. Keith wrote stories for Power Records, and was the early voice of 'Batman' in these stories; 'Stacked Cards', 'The Scarecrows Mirage', 'Catwoman's Revenge' and 'If Music Be The Food Of Death'. Sometimes it’s too long, sometimes it’s too short. Sometimes it’s too technical, other times its strokes are too broad. But occasionally, it’s just right. After listening to Dan Harmon’s public apology for sexually harassing her, Megan Ganz describes in This American Life Episode 674, Get a Spine, how Harmon nailed it. We try to unpack what worked – and what still might have been missing.Click here to hear the segment on This American Life's episode, Get a Spine.Click here to hear Dan Harmon’s confession on Harmontown (go to 17:43).Click here for Leon and Joel's full study session.Click here to view the source sheet for this episode. Rob and Britta discuss This American Life Episode 14: Accidental Documentaries, including their own experience creating accidental documentaries. The main focus of the discussion is the centerpiece of this episode, a documentary edited out of reel to reel tapes that a family sent back and forth to each other back in 1967. And Rob talks to Joe Silovsky, the man who originally found those tapes and gave them to Ira Glass, and whose work as a performance artist echos the experience he had with those tapes back when he was an art student. And since this is the final episode of the show that originally aired under the name “Your Radio Playhouse,” Rob and Britta talk about some of the worst moments from those early episodes, and their awfulness is inspiring. Picture: There's nothing sexy about hurting peaceful people who commit victimless "crimes." School Sucks Podcast does not support or encourage teenage drug use. However, SSP also does not support or encourage predatory police practices targeting and entrapping high school students. Topic: After listening to a piece called "21 Chump Street" on NPR's This American Life, I was compelled to devote some time to the threat of NARCS and informants infiltrating public schools, with the consent of administrators, of course. Jason Osborne and Dale Everett join me once again, and as Free Staters, we are not strangers to this concern. Jason also produced a video called Never Get Raided, which explains how to identify undercover agents.
