Episode #128 - Born in Nazi-occupied Hungary, Katherine MK Mitchell's life began in the shadow of war and loss. After fleeing Budapest with little more than courage and determination, she arrived in New York and eventually made her way to Hollywood, where she built a career in film and television. Imagine growing up in a house so infamous it inspired a horror franchise. Well, our guest on the podcast today did just that, living in the Amityville house in Long Island, New York from ages 11 to 16. Later the house became the setting of “The Amityville Horror.” But don't worry, she's here to share stories that are more delightful than frightful. You've seen her as Carlie Kirkland, the savvy insurance investigator on “Banacek,” and as Evelyn Stratton, Ricky Schroder's sophisticated mother on “Silver Spoons.” She was in “The Gambler” with Kenny Rogers, “The Golden Girls” and “The Six Million Dollar Man.” We're talking about the incredibly talented Christine Belford.
Introduce a re-mixing of cassette, originally published online in November 2022. Address potential copyright issues by removing or reducing background music (e.g., "Carry Out Feelings" by Nazareth and "Ode to Billie Joe" by Bobbie Gentry).Discusses recent violent incident in Washington, D.C., where two Israeli embassy workers were killed, advocating for harsher punishments for violent acts. Also mention a tax reform bill, expressing concern over a possible broken promise regarding no tax on Social Security. Not typically an NBA fan, enjoyed a Knicks vs. Pacers game but criticizes the NBA for becoming political, specifically calling out LeBron James.Newly written poem titled "Breacher Leacher," which is abstract and cryptic, touching on themes of deception and decay.1976 cassette features family members, including Helen May Wright "MawMaw" Adolph, Wendy Fitzgerald, and cousins Steve, Craig, Mike, John Dirk, and Kyle, with MawMaw talking prominently.Cassette captures a lively, chaotic conversation among cousins and aunts, in rural Boothville. The dialogue is informal, filled with interruptions, and reflects childhood antics and family dynamics.Kids talk about starting swimming lessons and playing games like volleyball and kickball at a recreation program. They describe beating one team and losing to another.Kids recount mowing grass, playing with frogs (including trying to run them over with a tractor), and grocery shopping mishaps, like Michael dropping a pickle jar and Stevie stealing jawbreakers.Mention using a CB radio, pretending to be characters like Steve Austin (from "The Six Million Dollar Man"), and engaging in imaginative play, such as frog hunting and pirogue (small boat) adventures in a river.Kids talk about staying at MawMaw's house, Craig's antics, and conflicts with parents. They also mention a baseball game and hopes of hitting home runs.Conversation is filled with playful teasing, complaints about smells (e.g., stink bugs, flatulence), and exaggerated stories, like a frog surviving a tractor blade or a ship in the river. The 1976 cassette captures the carefree, mischievous spirit of childhood in the mid-1970s, with vivid descriptions of rural life, family bonds, and playful banter.Attempt to blend modern opinions with nostalgia for the past.

Corporate America still sucks but it's all about chocolate cake and the Six Million Dollar Man...
Elmer J. McCurdy (January 1, 1880 – October 7, 1911) was an American outlaw who was killed in a shoot-out with police after robbing a train in Oklahoma in October 1911. Dubbed "The Bandit Who Wouldn't Give Up", his mummified body was first put on display at an Oklahoma funeral home and then became a fixture on the traveling carnival and sideshow circuit during the 1920s through the 1960s. After changing ownership several times, McCurdy's remains eventually wound up at The Pike amusement zone in Long Beach, California, where they were discovered by crew members for the television series The Six Million Dollar Man and positively identified in December 1976.
Hey fiends! This week we are rebroadcasting one of our fan favorite (and ours) episode on Elmer McCurdy. We will be back next week with an all new episode. ENJOY! -------------- On December 8th, 1976, the crew of the hit televisions show The Six Million Dollar Man made a gruesome discovery. While shooting in a fun house in Long Beach, California, they accidentally broke the arm off an orange day glow dummy only to discover that is wasn't a dummy at all, it was the mummified remains of a human man. Through a fascinating forensic investigation, they would discover that this man was Elmer McCurdy, the worst train and bank robber in American history. Elmer's story is wild, and we guarantee that this week, there's something for everyone. This is one of Holly's favorites, so you know it's going to be super weird. Continuing our look back at 1975 (which was just about fifty years ago, according to most historians), let's see what was on television. Specifically we're looking at the prime time schedule for March 30, 1975, which just happened to be Easter night. So the three networks offered a mix of special programming (The Ten Commandments, The Wizard of Oz, and a horrifying holiday Waltons rerun) and typical mid-70s action shows (Six Million Dollar Man, McCloud). Watch closely for special guest stars like John Ritter (pre-Jack Tripper) and Gavan O'Herlihy (post-Chuck Cunningham). Was it the greatest night in television history? Absolutely not. But it was 1975, and it was all we had. The Flopcast website! The ESO Network! The Flopcast on Facebook! The Flopcast on Instagram! The Flopcast on Bluesky! The Flopcast on Mastadon! We take a nostalgic look at the imported shows we loved as kids—from the heartfelt drama of The Incredible Hulk to the high-energy action of The Six Million Dollar Man and the confusing, chaotic madness of Monkey!
The Wild Afterlife of Elmer McCurdy: Train Robber, Mummy & Amusement Park PropEver heard of a train robber so bad that he found more success as a corpse? Elmer McCurdy's life was a series of spectacular failures—botched robberies, mistaken trains, and blown-up safes. But his real adventure started after he died. Preserved with arsenic, he was passed from carnival to wax museum to haunted house, even making a surprise appearance on The Six Million Dollar Man.
Every career has to start somewhere, and Academy Award winners have to pay their dues like anyone else. Sometimes you kick things off punching a stuntman through a glass wall, and sometimes you start out chasing a character actor behind a high school gymnasium. The third season of The Movie Show comes to a close by looking at the beginnings of some Best Actress award winners: namely, Michelle Yeoh (in 1985's Yes, Madam!), Sandra Bullock (1989's The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman: Bionic Showdown), and Renee Zellweger (1995's Empire Records)!Email: info@channel-37.comTwitter: @WHXN37

In 1976, a television crew filming an episode of the show “The Six Million Dollar Man” descended on a rundown funhouse in Long Beach, California. While filming, they accidentally broke the arm off a wax dummy. Except...it wasn't a wax dummy. It was a real body. The body of a notorious train robber from the early 1900s, named Elmer McCurdy. Check out the Atlas entry for Elmer McCurdy's grave. For more information on Elmer, we recommend Mark Svenvold's book “Elmer McCurdy: The Misadventures in Life and Afterlife of an American Outlaw.”

We'll turn on the TV this week with three radio thrillers featuring future television stars. Before he was Bart Maverick, Jack Kelly led the frantic search for a deadly snake on a boat in "A Shipment of Mute Fate" (originally aired on CBS on January 6, 1957). Beloved TV mom June Lockhart of Lassie and Lost in Space is an actress who's had enough poor treatment at the hands of a producer in "Shooting Star" (originally aired on CBS on March 24, 1957). And Richard Anderson, who'd later give orders to the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman, plays an inexperienced cavalry officer who's too eager for action in "Command" (originally aired on CBS on September 14, 1958).
Michael, Rob, and Pax stay up late talking about The Alienist, Avenue 5, Presumed Innocent, Sugar, The Six Million Dollar Man, Batman: Caped Crusader, Cleopatra movies, The Cat from Outer Space, Zardoz, Murder on the Orient Express movies, the Time Bandits TV series, Mayor of Kingstown, Deadpool & Wolverine, Knox Goes Away, Under Paris, generation gaps, The Man from Atlantis, Sealab 2020, Borderlands, Jackpot!, Guitar Hero, and more.
Mikey & Jeremy watch S5E15 of Smallville, "Cyborg". They discuss Spiderman, Batman, and The Six Million Dollar Man.
The Six Million Dollar Man is coming to Colorado Springs Comic-Con, and Crowley got the chance to talk to the man himself about how many bionic implants he has in real life. And more!
Will Keck spent his early career chasing scandals and digging up dirt. Now he's put all those stories into his own memoir, When You Step Upon A Star: Cringeworthy Confessions of a Tabloid Bad Boy. But this isn't some gossip-ridden, tattle-tale, tell all. It's the story of one man trying to find himself in all the wrong Hollywood places. Will joins us to share his love of television, specifically shows like The Brady Bunch, Eight Is Enough, The Six Million Dollar Man and more that all served as surrogate members of the family he longed to have, how some of the biggest stars he idolized and then had to demonize have forgiven him, and most importantly, how through it all he found himself and his place in the world. We also talk about why society finds itself so drawn to celebrities, how all that glitters isn't necessarily gold, and the importance of stepping outside our own secret identities. From the Ewings of Dallas to the Carringtons of Dynasty, with a pitstop in Walnut Grove, this episode guarantees a nostalgic good time. ------------------------------------------- Steve's second novel is on the way - Catch up on the first! Much like Steve Austin, the Six Million Dollar Man, Chuck Austen can just about do it all. He's been a writer, artist, creator, animator, and producer over his roughly 40 years in entertainment. But Chuck started as a comics artist, starting at Eclipse and had a short stint on Alan Moore's formative Miracleman series. He subsequently did more mostly indie work before taking a comics hiatus to work on King of the Hill. Roaring back with Marvel Knights, he illustrated the initial run on the new Elektra series and then wrote and illustrated U.S. War Machine, which was controversial for its violence and politics. He transitioned to mostly a writer from there, taking on Uncanny X-Men, Captain America, The Avengers and more at Marvel, and then Superman: Metropolis and Action Comics for DC. After creating comics of his own (like Edgeworld and Flywires), Chuck is mostly back in animation now, producing shows like Dragons: The Nine Realms and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Join the Boozy Bitches as they discuss Elmer McCurdy, a mummified corpse from the early 1900s who traveled around the country before landing in an old amusement park. He was finally discovered in the 1970s by a film crew for the Six Million Dollar Man. Of the thousands of people who saw his body on display, how many realized this was an actual human and not a wax dummy?
