Send us Fan MailAngelo, Rhea, and Jay are back and this week Hugh Laurie said the quiet part out loud, and the internet still hasn't recovered. After a freelance critic named Janet Murray posted on X that House has "the same narrative every episode," Laurie responded with a thread so sarcastic it went viral — cataloguing every alternative structure they tried, comparing the formula to Bach and Frida Kahlo, and closing with "I look forward to your first novel." The internet mobbed Murray immediately. But here's the thing: she's not wrong. House is formulaic — that's what procedurals are. Laurie's real defense wasn't "no it isn't." It was that if all you see is the formula, it wasn't meant for you. Is that the most honest thing a creator has ever said in public about their own work, or is it exactly what every creator thinks and should never, ever say out loud?THEN: Spielberg's Disclosure Day opens Friday. Reviews are calling it his best film in 20 years, with box office projections between $35 and $59 million. For Spielberg. Three of his last five films lost money (West Side Story, The Fabelmans, The BFG) roughly $380 million in losses combined. The Fabelmans is one of the best films of the decade and grossed $25 million total. Sometimes a show starts with a plan. Other times it turns into 30 minutes of Alice Cooper golf stories, celebrity colonoscopy competitions, and an unexpected debate about Grateful Dead clothing. Guess which one happened today. On this episode of The Rizzuto Show, the crew dives headfirst into another beautifully unhinged morning of entertainment news, questionable life choices, and the kind of conversations that probably shouldn't happen before breakfast.First up, Blink-182 fans are losing their minds after hints of a major anniversary celebration for Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. Is a tour coming? New music? A giant reunion of people who still know every word to "The Rock Show"? The crew investigates. Then we learn that Alice Cooper accidentally left his credit card at a gas station during a golf trip in Arizona. Luckily, it was found by a fan who returned it instead of funding the world's weirdest shopping spree. The gang discusses Alice's legendary golf obsession, his friendship with Groucho Marx, and how the guy somehow still looks cooler than all of us combined.Things get even stranger when Tom Hanks reveals that he, Steve Martin, and Martin Short host actual colonoscopy parties. Not metaphorical parties. Real parties. Complete with competition, suffering, and discussions nobody asked for but everyone immediately became fascinated by. Naturally, the crew spends way too much time debating which show member they'd be most comfortable pooping in front of. Science demands answers.Elsewhere, Moon admits he's becoming dangerously attracted to Grateful Dead merchandise despite knowing almost nothing about the band. Is this maturity? A midlife crisis? A cry for help? The jury remains out.The celebrity chaos keeps rolling as Taylor Swift wedding rumors heat up, Jack White quietly drops news about a new album, Alanis Morissette launches a theatrical stage production, and Hugh Laurie apologizes after accidentally unleashing the internet on a TV critic. Because apparently getting drunk and tweeting remains undefeated. And then things really go off the rails when the crew ranks the greatest country summer songs ever recorded. Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffett, Zac Brown Band, strawberry wine, cold beer, lake life, and approximately 47 references to boats somehow dominate the conversation. By the end, you'll either want to buy a pontoon boat or file a noise complaint against country radio. If you love weird celebrity stories, ridiculous debates, pop culture commentary, and a group of friends constantly distracting each other from the topic at hand, this episode delivers exactly what you'd expect from a daily comedy show. And if you're somehow listening while preparing for a colonoscopy, congratulations—you've found the perfect soundtrack. This daily comedy show proudly answers life's biggest questions:Should Grateful Dead merch require a knowledge test?Is a colonoscopy party friendship's highest form? Can Kenny Chesney survive without mentioning sand, boats, or cold beer? Why does Alice Cooper somehow have the coolest retirement plan ever?We don't solve them. We just make them funnier.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

President Trump clashes with Kristen Welker on Meet the Press as she repeats the debunked "no evidence" claim about 2020 election fraud. Comedy writer Ben Elton's autobiography What Have I Done? tells the story of a career of comedy firsts, writing hit shows like Blackadder, The Young Ones and Upstart Crow. His love of words is legendary - as a small child his mother wouldn't let him speak til she was on her second cup of tea to braving the "Oxbridge tutorial" vibe of the Blackadder rehearsal room with Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie and Rowan Atkinson. Great Pottery Throw Down judge Keith Brymer Jones is a man so mad about pots they can move him to tears. He's now on the road with a tour about his renovation of a Welsh church complete with pigeon poo that took £40,000 to remove. But did you know he puts his remarkable resilience down to his ballet training?Comic Suzi Ruffell is also on the road with her stand up show, dressed correctly - 'shirt, tie and mullet', she says - but she's also written a memoir slash how-to-guide, Am I having fun now?, about winning (and laughing) at life in spite of her deep anxiety about it.And music from Sarah Jane Morris's new album paying tribute to the great women singer songwriters and from Anglo-American rocker Barns Courtney.Presenter: Stuart Maconie Producer: Olive Clancy Assistant Producer: Sam Nixon Technical Producers: John Cole and Kelly Young
In this final episode of our rerun of our January series on The Anatomy of a Breakthrough, we arrive at strategy - not as hustle, force, or rigid self-improvement, but as a creative, embodied collaboration with your own life.Throughout the month, we've explored how real change unfolds when state comes first, story begins to soften, and strategy is allowed to emerge from alignment rather than pressure. In this episode, we bring it all together.Drawing on the wisdom of thinkers, artists, and teachers such as Buckminster Fuller, Vincent van Gogh, James Clear, Tim Ferriss, Shunryū Suzuki, Hugh Laurie, Millard Fuller, and contemporary author Jordan Gruber, Ashley weaves a deeply neurodivergent-affirming exploration of how meaningful change actually takes shape. We'll explore:Why strategy works best when it builds the new rather than fights the oldHow small, sustainable actions quietly create upward spiralsWhy confidence often follows action - not the other way aroundHow embodied knowledge can return when we meet ourselves in the right stateWhat it means to design a strategy that truly fits your nervous systemThe episode closes with a deeply nourishing Yoga Nidra, inviting your nervous system into a state of rest, receptivity, and neuroplasticity - a place where new patterns can gently take root.If you're tired of forcing change, waiting for motivation, or feeling like strategy has to be punishing to be effective, this episode offers a kinder, wiser way forward.✨ You're allowed to edit your life.

In this episode, I talk with returning le Carré Cast MVP Matthew Bradford about the fourth episode of THE NIGHT MANAGER season 2. We talk about how things got supercharged with this episode. Roper returns! Columbian Motorcycles! David Farr’s Dreams! Plus, those Columbian locations, Hugh Laurie’s birthday and ALL CAPS EMAILS! Finally, this episode changes […]
This episode begins, as ever, in total disarray: missed jokes, football updates, wine anxiety, and the creeping realisation that the best material always happens before the mic is on. Then Dan drops a bombshell: The Night Manager is so tense he physically struggled to finish it.And that's the hook.Based on John le Carré's novel, The Night Manager is a six-part espionage thriller starring Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Pine, a hotel night manager pulled into a covert operation to bring down international arms dealer Richard Roper (a towering Hugh Laurie). Set against the backdrop of the Arab Spring, it's a story of guilt, infiltration, and moral compromise — where every smile hides a weapon and every ally might be a leak.We talk about:Why this is one of the most gripping British series of the last decadeHiddleston's transformation into a Bond-adjacent undercover operativeHugh Laurie's chilling reinvention as “the worst man in the world”The mechanics of building a fake identity and earning trust from monstersOlivia Colman's ferocious MI6 handler and the cost of doing “good”The unbearable tension of near-misses, close calls, and cliffhangersJohn le Carré's MI6 roots and why his work still defines spy fictionIt's sleek, paranoid, adult television — the kind where you pause episodes just to steady your nerves. With a new season finally arriving, this is the perfect moment to (re)discover it.If you like espionage with teeth, villains who smile while they ruin lives, and stories where nobody is truly safe, this episode is your invitation to dive in.You can now text us anonymously to leave feedback, suggest future content or simply hurl abuse at us. Ben Elton was instrumental in the transformation of British comedy that took place in the 1980s. His scripts for The Young Ones and Blackadder were fresh, anarchic, rude, clever and hilarious. The people that worked alongside Ben - Richard Curtis, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Rik Mayall, Ade Edmondson, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders - to name but a few - are legendary. In this episode of Rosebud, Ben talks to Gyles about his parents, his father's family story - they had escaped persecution in Germany at the start of the war - and how he became interested in comedy as a young boy. He talks about the process of writing Blackadder, which was sometimes tortuous, and what it felt like to be slated by the critics when We Will Rock You first opened in the West End.Ben's autobiography, "What Have I Done?" is out now and available here. Rosebud has a new website www.rosebudpodcast.co.uk and a new Facebook group - just search "Rosebud Reflections". Enjoy this! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
New episode out now! We revisit the work of Agatha Christie with the 2022 BritBox miniseries Why Didn't They Ask Evans? starring Will Poulter and Lucy Boynton and adapted by Hugh Laurie. We get into how the relationship of Bobby and Frankie evolves throughout the story, have difficulties figuring out the timeline, think both doctors make better investigators than the young couple, and dig into the nature of evil and the way the villain of the story shifts plans based on the opportunities presented. We discuss the influence of English classicism and how it affected the investigative style, talk a little about the Marple adaptation of this same story, think this is really a romance wrapped in a mystery, and speak at length about the attractiveness of Will Poulter. Katy loves the ‘90s, Carrie likes a helpful kind man (who's also hot), Maddy locks in for cats, and Mack has a pretty okay Palpatine impression. We also muse on how non-traditional mystery solvers always seem to have an unending supply of family members to visit, reveal various childhood (and adulthood) cartoon crushes, learn things about the full moon, and uncover a trope of character design that is pretty wild. Listen to hear more about IMDb credits, miming a telephone, Brennan Lee Mulligan, wedding pants, horror tropes, and the hotness of forearms. Go ride a bike!TW: Suicide, mental health issues, electroshock therapy, opioid addiction
In this episode we discuss Maddy dancing with her substitute teacher, the statute of limitations for spoiling the catfish doc, TIFF, Liv getting bullied by the youth at school, having a baby ma'am or sir, Snack Of The Week feat. Jaffa Cakes, the character archetype of “surly man with a dark passenger”, the reason he's called Dr.House (spoiler alert: it's horrifying), having to act out a medical event, how it's always lupus, Omar Epps eating a baloney cig, the phrase “get in her pants”, and SO MUCH MORE!!! Thanks for listening and we'll catch you on the flip-phone!

The Oxford v Cambridge Men's Boat Race has been an annual tradition since 1856 - but the first one was the result of a light-hearted bet between two friends called Charles on 10th June, 1829. When Wordsworth (Christ Church College, Oxford) and Merivale (St. John's, Cambridge) challenged each other to race up the Thames in Henley, they never could have known their schoolboy jape would attract 20,000 spectators, nor that it would go on to become one of the major sporting events in the British calendar. In this episode, Rebecca, Olly and Arion consider if rowing is still an elitist sport; whether Oxbridge colleges should now ditch the pretence that they never admit postgraduate students specifically to participate in the race; and reveal Hugh Laurie's consolation prize for losing for Cambridge in 1980… Further Reading: • ‘Origins of the Boat Race' at the Boat Race's official website: https://theboatrace.org/origins • 111 years after the original race, Oxford and Cambridge compete in Henley again (British Pathé, 1940): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQSsei8KxCw • ‘Ten Things You Didn't Know About The Boat Race' from Sky History: https://www.history.co.uk/article/10-things-you-didnt-know-about-the-boat-race This episode first aired in 2021 Love the show? Peter Capaldi – aka Malcolm Tucker, Dr Who, the universal screen delight and an Oscar-winning film director – was the singer in the punk band the Dreamboys in the late ‘70s who put out a single when he was at the art school in Glasgow. Meet Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie -- known to comedy fans as Fry and Laurie -- one of the funniest and best loved British comedy duos to emerge in the 1980s. Introduced to each other by Emma Thompson when they were students at Cambridge, Stephen and Hugh got their biggest boost when BBC hosted A Bit of Fry and Laurie from 1989 to 1995. Their sketch interplay was stellar, as was their bit of breaking the fourth wall to address the audience directly. And their acting chops served them well when they were cast as Jeeves and Wooster in an adaptation of the PG Wodehouse "Jeeves stories". They also lent their wit to the Ben Elton "Black Adder" series, including some brutal satire in the final series, set in WW I. In recent years the lads have mostly performed solo, but they remain close friends and who knows, perhaps a Bit *More* of Fry and Laurie might be in our future -- at least we can hope. As always find extra clips below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Fry and Laurie? As with many of their Brit contemporaries, Fry and Laurie were happy -- almost gleeful -- to smash comedy tradition including a gift for breaking the fourth wall. https://youtu.be/s4bPsGsNGi4?si=wgteHCLcf4ucTabu Fry and Laurie were both excellent comic actors and their chemistry was put to good use when they starred in a television adaptation of the PG Wodehouse Jeeves and Wooster series. https://youtu.be/LObPaCloY8E?si=QlsCtBp0B2upTXZa The Black Adder series of English historical comedies have a devoted fan base, and Fry and Laurie were right in the mix as in this darkly comic bit from the final series, Black Adder Goes Forth. https://youtu.be/RcIV5tU_Zik?si=R2o_WtJkMXwdadWq

Hurrah! The hiatus is over. Welcome back friends and fellow crushers. Crushed is back with the live episode recorded at the London Podcast Festival just a couple of weeks ago. If you were there, you might hear yourself chuckling. My guest is of course the inimitable (and yes, I have tried) Miles Jupp! Former News Quiz host, erstwhile portrayer of Archie the Inventor in Balamory (in a very dashing Tam O'Shanter, honestly, google it), and the lucky, lucky man who got to be in Hugh Laurie's "Why Didn't They Ask Evans?" Guess which one we talked about most? He is an utter joy, and a very funny man. I think you'll enjoy an hour of him deflecting my probing into his inner emotional life, while I try to prise him open like a reluctant clam. Do we leave with a deeper understanding of the early loves and lusts of Miles Jupp? Arguably, no. But we do learn the new-to-me term "raging bonk-on", and get hints of a secret hankering for an older stateswoman. I hope it's not the Queen. Lots of lovely new episodes dropping over the next couple of months so do subscribe if you haven't already. love and crushes, MCS xxx Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
