Welcome to the Cinema Australia Podcast. In this episode I'm joined by Charles Williams to discuss Inside, a prison drama starring Guy Pearce, Cosmo Jarvis, Tammy MacIntosh and newcomer, Vincent Miller whose name you should make note of because you're going to hear a lot more from this impressive young actor. Here's the synopsis: After being transferred from juvenile to adult prison, Mel (Vincent Miller) is taken under the wing of both Mark (Cosmo Jarvis), Australia's most despised criminal, and Warren (Guy Pearce), a soon-to-be-paroled inmate. As a paternal triangle grows between them, we see that even the worst of men have a little bit of good inside that will be their undoing. Charles Williams is an acclaimed Australian film director whose short film All These Creatures won the Cannes Film Festival's Short Film Palme d'Or as well as an AACTA award here at home. Charles grew up in a remote country town in northern Victoria. Since then, his films have gone on to screen at more than 200 of the world's most prestigious festivals. He has also been selected as part of TIFF's Filmmaker Lab, The Golden Globes Filmmaker Residency and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Inside is Charles' debut feature film. It has a discomforting psychological depth to it reminiscent of the films of Justin Kurzel like Nitram and Snowtown, and Thomas M. Wright's The Stranger. There's nothing familiar about Charles Williams' filmmaking style though. Inside feels completely unique both visually and narratively. Anyway… enjoy.

**THIS EPISODE CONTAINS FULL SPOILERS** If Joel Edgerton is involved, then we're INTERESTED! On today's episode of Film is Lit, we cover the gripping true crime non-fiction book, "The Sting," by Australian journalist-turned-author Kate Kyriacou. The book gives us an inside look into Australia's largest undercover sting operation, which led to the arrest and conviction of Daniel Morcombe's killer in 2011. "The Stranger," directed by Thomas M. Wright in 2022, is a haunting, loose adaptation of this thrilling true story. Our boy Edgerton stars as the lead, and Sean Harris does what he does best by playing the creepiest human(?) in existence... creepier than anything in your nightmares. Rob Miller (Creative Industry Insight podcast) and Tom Salinsky (Best Pick podcast) return to Flixwatcher to review Rob's choice The Stranger. The Stranger is a 2022 psychological crime thriller film, written and directed by Thomas M. Wright it is based on the non-fiction book The Sting: The Undercover Operation That Caught Daniel Morcombe's Killer by Kate Kyriacou. It stars Sean Harris as Henry Teague, the lead police suspect in the disappearance and murder of a young boy. Joel Edgerton is undercover police officer ‘Mark Frame', who under the guise of being part of the criminal underworld gains the trust of Henry that will hopefully help them secure a confession. The Stranger is a text book example of a slow burn. It eschews a more traditional storytelling approach taken by undercover cop dramas and focusses on the internal conflict of those who go undercover and the complexities of male bonding. It's slightly unconventional approach and intense viewing experience meant it was tricky to score highly on recommendability, which isn't to say it isn't very good, just that it isn't a casual watch. Scores across the remaining categories bring the overall rating to a very respectable 3.58.   [supsystic-tables id=294 Episode #295 Crew Links Thanks to Episode #295 Crew of Robert from @CIIPodcast and Tom from @BestPickPod Find their Websites online at https://t.co/epyYr1teN8 and at https://twitter.com/CIIPodcast Please make sure you give them some love   More about The Stranger For more info on The Stranger, you can visit The Stranger IMDb page here or The Stranger Rotten Tomatoes page here. A Wrinkle in Time starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy KalingFrom visionary director Ava DuVernay comes Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and, ultimately, the triumph of love. Through one girl’s transformative journey led by three celestial guides, we discover that strength comes from embracing one’s individuality and that the best way to triumph over fear is to travel by one’s own light. Meg Murry and her little brother, Charles Wallace, have been without their scientist father, Mr. Murry, for five years, ever since he discovered a new planet and used the concept known as a tesseract to travel there. Joined by Meg's classmate Calvin O'Keefe and guided by the three mysterious astral travelers known as Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which, the children brave a dangerous journey to a planet that possesses all of the evil in the universe.Sweet Country starring Bryan Brown, Sam Neill, and Hamilton Morris Warwick Thornton's award-winning Australian western set in the outback of the Northern Territory, 1929. When Aboriginal stockman Sam (newcomer Hamilton Morris) kills a white station owner in self-defence, he goes on the run. Co-stars Bryan Brown and Sam Neill. Sam and his wife are pursued across the outback. Sergeant Fletcher (Brown) leads the posse with the help of tracker Archie (Gibson John) and local landowners Fred Smith (Neill) and Mick Kennedy (Thomas M. Wright). Fletcher is desperate to capture Sam and put him on trial for murder, but Sam is an expert bushman and has little difficulty outlasting them. Eventually, for the health of his pregnant wife, Sam decides to give himself up and is put on trial in the courtroom of Judge Taylor (Matt Day)Faces PlacesAgnès Varda and JR have things in common: a passion for and the exploration of images in general, and more precisely, for places and for ways of showing, sharing, and exhibiting them. Agnès chose cinema. JR chose to create open air photography galleries. When Agnès and JR met in 2015, they immediately wanted to work together, to shoot a film in France, far from cities, during a trip in JR's photographic (and magical) truck. Through chance encounters and prepared projects, they reached out to others, listening to them, photographing them, and sometimes putting them on posters. This film also tells the story of Agnès and JR's friendship, which grew stronger throughout the film shoot, between surprises and teasing, and while laughing about their differences.

The son of actor Rick Hurst, he gradually gained more exposure on the small screen as he joined the cast of Campus Cops for nine episodes while appearing on several movies such as Patch Adams, The Postman, Saving Private Ryan and Remember the Titans, where he played all-American linebacker Gerry Bertier. In 2002, he was cast on the mini-series Taken before accepting roles on Wanted, Medium and Londynczycy. His biggest TV break came, however, when he joined the cast of Sons of Anarchy in 2008 as Harry "Opie" Winston. After Sons of Anarchy, he moved on to star on the TNT series King and Maxwell.
