It's about money we talk about this money-tested film that made a lot of time at the box office, In Time. It's a very subtle critique of capitalism that surely flew over most people's heads and will be appreciated in another money as one of the smartest movies ever. Just kidding! Really flimsy time/money exchange rates, displaying bank accounts in plain sight, the Robin Hood ending and so much more to be discussed here! Just listen! You've got plenty of money! For years, Alex Gregory has been at the center of some of TV's sharpest comedies, from “Veep” to the legendary “The Larry Sanders Show.” Now, Gregory returns as co-creator and co-showrunner of “The Studio,” a show that's quickly become one of the funniest and most biting satires about Hollywood chaos ever put on television. On the Bingeworthy podcast, Gregory sat down with host Mike DeAngelo to talk about the real stories behind the series, the chaos of the writers' room, and why Martin Scorsese was maybe the best surprise comedic cameo of the year.If you're new to “The Studio,” the show is basically a wild ride through the modern movie business - a satirical look at power, egos, and total dysfunction, starring a crew of execs, creatives, and all sorts of oddballs who just try to keep the whole machine running. Created by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Alex Gregory, Peter Huyck, and Frida Perez, the series is loaded with star power: Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz, Dave Franco, Zac Efron, Olivia Wilde, Anthony Mackie, and plenty more pop up throughout.READ MORE: ‘The Studio' Review: An Incredible Love Letter & Takedown Of The Hollywood Movie Machine

The behind the scenes stories of two films some time in the making come together in this episode, starting with 1993's Jurassic Park. A film made at a point when Steven Spielberg's box office touch was being questioned. A movie that, had a battle for the rights gone the other way, could have been made by one of Tim Burton, Joe Dante or Richard Donner. As it was, Universal and Spielberg made the movie, and the Arnold Schwarzenegger-headlined Last Action Hero was set to go head-to-head with it. 2019's Booksmart meanwhile took ten years to get made, even though its budget was well under $10m. First time director Olivia Wilde had quite the pitch to earn the job behind the camera - but then had a battle to get audiences to the movie once she'd made it. Stories of both are told in this episode... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Discover how Claude Cockburn's guerrilla journalism foresaw the rise of fascism in the 1930s and challenged mainstream media narratives. This show is made possible by you! To become a sustaining member go to https://LauraFlanders.org/donate Thank you for your continued support!Description: Mainstream media has a lot to account for in 2024, but go back 90 years, and prestigious publications have often failed to see when things were so clearly wrong. In 1930s Germany, many journalists downplayed Adolf Hitler's ascension to power, with the New York Times writing “There is no warrant for immediate alarm…The more violent parts of his alleged program he has himself in recent months been softening down or abandoning.” But one young British journalist who, seeing what was happening, quit his job with The London Times and founded The Week, a newsletter that became famous for its opposition to fascism and the Western powers that were enabling it. His name was Claud Cockburn, and he's the subject of a newly-released biography by his son, Patrick Cockburn, “Believe Nothing Until It Is Officially Denied: Claud Cockburn and the Invention of Guerrilla Journalism,” out now via Verso Books. Patrick is an award-winning journalist himself, with a long expertise in the Middle East. And Patrick is Laura Flanders' uncle; Claud is her grandfather. How did mainstream media miss what Claud knew about the rise of Nazis, and how did his guerilla journalism make an impact? And why is Claud's story so relevant now? All that, plus a commentary from Laura. I already forgot today's breaking news but guess whose book is making the rounds... that's right, Josh Gad! Plus, Scheana Shay wrote a book, Lukas Gage wrote a book and Hilaria Baldwin wrote... that's right, another book! Everyone's writing! Except for Lori Harvey — she's posing for Playboy! Meanwhile, Taylor Zakhar-Perez is posing for LaCoste (undies), Gracie Abram's fans are trying to get her opener (Dora Jar) off the tour and Kesha is posing topless with her (R.I.P.) cat. Taylor Kitsch moved to Montana, Tan France cut his pompadour, Guy Pearce is single... Blake Griffin is marrying Frankie's Bikinis... Olivia Wilde is dating the Predator (Hey! Hey guys!Britt and Keeshia have spent the entire weekend together and they're the friends that ask you if you can come to Africa tomorrow.Laura shared a story about some of the early days of Marlie's life that aren't quite her best moments! Laura would love to know how many times your kid accidentally rolled off the bed? We unpack the goss from the Wicked premiere! We were interested in how they would approach the PR of the film given the reputational damage that Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater suffered after having a rumoured 'affair.' We wondered whether they would take a 'Don't Worry Darling" approach (Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde) where they kept space from each other in public, or if they would lean in to their romance! There was one line in the movie that we are shocked they kept in!Plus, what would bring you to 'loyalty test' your partner? We speak about the 'how' and the 'why' you may get to a place where you consider conducting a loyalty test. It's a masterclass in how a festive occasion can be layered with narrative depth.Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) - This film's exploration of various wedding styles and the emotions they evoke makes each ceremony memorable. It perfectly captures the humor, awkwardness, and tenderness of weddings, making it a classic in the romantic comedy genre.Game of Thrones - "The Red Wedding" (Season 3, Episode 9) - Perhaps one of the most shocking wedding scenes ever filmed, the Red Wedding was a pivotal moment in the series, filled with treachery and heartbreak, leaving a lasting impact on viewers and characters alike.Crazy Rich Asians (2018) - This film features a stunningly beautiful wedding scene that combines traditional elements with lavish modern details, set to a haunting cover of "Can't Help Falling in Love." It's visually captivating and emotionally charged, reflecting the film's themes of love and family expectations. My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) - This wedding is a joyful, chaotic celebration of Greek culture, packed with comedic moments and touching on themes of cultural identity and familial bonds. The film combines stylish aesthetics with psychological suspense, exploring themes of empowerment, reality, and illusion. While there isn't a wedding scene central to its plot, the film's tension and mystery provide a backdrop for examining how individual desires and societal pressures can clash, much like the dynamics often present at a wedding.Switching gears, Neighbours often features weddings that are quintessential soap opera fare—full of drama, unexpected revelations, and sometimes, heart-warming moments. These episodes offer lighter, more dramatic interpretations of weddings, providing entertainment that spans generations of viewers.Whether you're a fan of lavish celebrations, dramatic twists, or the simple joy of a well-told love story, today's episode promises a fascinating look at the most memorable weddings in film and television. In 2021 Mary Neely and Kareem Rahma met at a Brooklyn comedy show. A week later they found themselves crammed at a downtown restaurant, elbows tucked and leaning forward, deep in discussion about an age-old argument: are men only nice to women who they want to have sex with? A settlement was never reached. Not long after, Kareem posted a still of Mathieu Kassovitz' LA HAINE to his Instagram with the words, “I'm quitting comedy until someone casts me in a dramatic role.” Mary responded, “I'll cast you.” The goal was set: write a joint personal essay, conversing about sensitive topics, and transcribing everything into the structure of a film that would be feasible to produce on a microbudget. Kareem Rahma is a three-time Webby-nominated writer, producer, comedian, and musician. He's also the creator and host of two hit digital series: KEEP THE METER RUNNING and SUBWAYTAKES, which have both amassed 100s of millions of views on TikTok and Instagram. Mary Neely is an actor, writer, and director. She directed and edited the short film PINK TRAILER, which premiered at SXSW, played opening night of Palm Springs ShortFest and was featured in i-D, Paper Magazine, and Refinery29 before being selected by the Milwaukee Film Institute to screen before Olivia Wilde's BOOKSMART in theaters. In this interview, we talk about the role of short form content in their careers, its impact on their work, and the advantages of a DIY approach, the challenges and rewards of self-producing films, the importance of constraints and much more. Welcome to Cyberpunk Cinema – the Definitive Dive into the Dark Future of Science Fiction. I am your host, Anthony La Pira, and I will be taking you on a cinematic journey through the sprawling cityscapes, the crippling datastorms, and the cybernetic implants that encompass all things Cyberpunk. In this week's episode, I will be breaking-down the great lega-sequel 2010 cyberpunk movie, Tron Legacy – directed by Joseph Kosinski, written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, starring Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner, and Michael Sheen. The son of a virtual world designer goes looking for his father and ends up inside the digital world that his father designed. He meets his father's corrupted creation and a unique ally who was born inside the digital world.Tron Legacy is one of the best cyberpunk films of this century. It holds a special place in my heart because I showed this film to my 4-year-old son back in 2011 and it became one of the first films that he obsessed over. We watched it dozens of times together and I was shocked by how much more I loved it watching HIM experience it through his eyes. It made the film that much more poignant, especially with the father/son angle in the film. Let's just say, this viewing definitely got me teary-eyed. So, do me a favor – it's time to access your cranial jacks, boot up your Ono-Sendai Cyberspace 7, and slap on your damn mirror-shades. You know what time it is! TODAY: we visit one of the weirdest corners of the internet: Manosphere guys complaining about Olivia Wilde's daughter saying she doesn't need a boyfriend. PLUS: A school district pays a $100,000 settlement to the family of a student who was “traumatized" by a documentary on hip hop, because his father is a cop. Get this week's full So Into That newsletter here! https://whattocook.substack.com/p/the-idea-of-you-author-robinne-leeThe Idea of You was a book that changed the way I read. I absolutely loved it. I recommend it all the time. And it was my gateway drug into the romance genre… although, as its author Robinne Lee shares in this episode, she never intended to write a romance novel (nor does she consider it to be one). The Idea of You really is about much more than meets the eye. As Robinne wrote in this Time article, the book grapples with themes including “ageism, sexism, the double standard, motherhood, female friendship, agency, and the dark side of celebrity.” And now that it's been turned into a hit movie starring Anne Hathaway, it's the perfect time to hear from Robinne herself. If you haven't read the book or seen the movie yet (BTW, I really recommend reading the book first!), it follows the relationship between a 40-year-old single mom and art gallery owner (Solène) and a boy-band lead singer 16 years her junior (Hayes). In the podcast, we talk about the inspiration for the book (it's not Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde, y'all); the tension between motherhood, romantic love, and career; what she wishes was different about the movie; and much more.We also get into:* Her hustling for 7 years to sell the book, copy by copy* Why she ended the story the way she did* Writing sex scenes and why she doesn't see TIOY as a romance novel* Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine's performances in the movie* A tantalizing tease about her next bookWhether you're a fan of The Idea of You or not (yet!), I'm so excited for you to get to know Robinne, who is also a talented actor and overall smart and fascinating woman.PS: I know I said So Into That episodes are going to air every other week now, but the world is currently *loving* The Idea of You, so I didn't want to sit on this interview!! With the Oscars only days away, celebrity hairstylist and Roz founder Mara Roszak is dropping all the details behind creating her gorgeous red carpet looks. Her client list includes stars like Olivia Wilde, Juno Temple, and Zoe Saldaña, but it's been an especially busy award season for her longtime client Emma Stone on the heels of her Oscar-nominated film Poor Things. Roszak is not only sharing the inspiration for Stone's hair looks this season, but she's also giving the full breakdown of how you can re-create her sleek Golden Globes lob and romantic BAFTA braid at home.
