When TRON: Legacy hit theaters in December 2010, Disney wasn't just reviving an old IP—they were resurrecting one of the strangest, most ambitious sci-fi concepts ever made. The original TRON from 1982 was a groundbreaking attempt to visualize the inside of a computer at a time when most people hadn't even touched one. It imagined programs as people, code as architecture, and morality as circuitry. It was visionary—and it bombed.By the 2000s, though, culture had caught up. The Matrix had turned cyberpunk into mainstream mythology, and the neon-noir look of Blade Runner had become visual shorthand for the future. Enter Joseph Kosinski—a former architect with a designer's precision—who re-engineered TRON not as a hacker fantasy, but as a digital myth about creation, perfection, and control.Garrett Hedlund plays Sam Flynn, son of Kevin Flynn, the hero from the first film, who vanished decades earlier. Sam follows a mysterious signal and is pulled into the Grid—his father's virtual world, now ruled by CLU, a digital clone obsessed with “perfection.” Within minutes, we're deep in a story that mirrors Star Wars: the fallen apprentice turned tyrant, the exiled master, the reluctant heir, and a world that must be remade. Kevin Flynn is both Obi-Wan and Yoda—haunted and withdrawn. CLU is his Darth Vader, a creation corrupted by its maker's arrogance. But the movie also borrows Matrix DNA. The Grid works like a virtual prison where sentient programs fight and dream of freedom. Quorra, played by Olivia Wilde, is the last of the “isomorphic algorithms,” lifeforms that evolved on their own—straight out of Ghost in the Shell's questions about digital souls. The film isn't about coding; it's about consciousness.Kosinski builds this world like a cathedral. Production designer Darren Gilford fills it with clean geometry and luminous voids. The suits by Michael Wilkinson and Christine Bieselin Clark refine Syd Mead's 1982 designs into sculpted futurism. And Daft Punk's score—half orchestra, half circuitry—turns the film into an electronic symphony. Even those who forgot the plot still remember that sound.Critics complained it was cold, that the script sounded like it was written by people who'd never heard of Google. My son Jonas nailed it: “This sounds like nobody who wrote it had heard of the internet.” And he's right. The film imagines computers as isolated kingdoms, not the networked web we actually live in. It's a pre-internet vision dressed in post-Matrix clothing.Yet that's what makes it fascinating. TRON: Legacy isn't really about technology—it's about fathers, sons, and the danger of mistaking perfection for love. Kevin Flynn's failure isn't technical; it's paternal. He built a world in his image and abandoned it. CLU inherited his father's obsession with order, and Sam inherited his resentment. The conflict isn't between man and machine—it's between generations.Kosinski would revisit that theme in Oblivion and Top Gun: Maverick: the architect of the system confronting the cost of control. TRON: Legacy is the prototype—a meditation on beauty, regret, and the limits of design.Fifteen years later, it feels almost prophetic. CLU's dream of a flawless system sounds uncomfortably close to the rhetoric of Silicon Valley. The movie's warning—that perfection becomes tyranny—lands harder in an age of algorithms, A.I., and curated identities. Its message is simple: imperfection is the only thing that makes us human. So tonight, as we gear up for TRON: Ares, we're putting Legacy on trial—not as a sequel that glitched, but as a digital myth that might've been too early for its own time. It's Star Wars rewritten by a coder, The Matrix without the leather, and Ghost in the Shell with a heartbeat.Load the disc. Power up the light cycles. Let's head back to the Grid.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

We've almost run out of time for Aug-Heist: The Getaway, but not before we go on the run with one final film. This week, we're finally doing a proper prison break movie with a little-seen 2010 slow-burn thriller from director Paul Haggis, who won back-to-back Best Picture Oscars with Million Dollar Baby and Crash. Russell Crowe stars as a husband willing to go to any length to free his wrongly convicted wife from prison, even if that means breaking her out himself. Co-starring Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde, Lennie James, Brian Dennehy, Liam Neeson, the film adapts the 2008 French release Anything for Her (Pour Elle) and was filmed on location in Pittsburgh. But with a dead-on 50% Tomatometer score, what final verdict will our hosts hand down? The summer of The Getaway is almost over, so we'd better enjoy The Next Three Days! In this episode we discuss *Juan's transition from cello performance to composition due to tendinitis *Creating organic sounds that feel electronic using extended techniques *Working with prepared piano, unusual woodwinds, and unconventional string techniques *The philosophy behind choosing acoustic instruments over synthesizers *His collaboration process and the importance of documentation in composition *How the music industry is evolving and what it means for composers. About our Guest: Juan Cortés Arango is a versatile Colombian composer based in Los Angeles. Juan's portfolio includes such notable works as Mala Fortuna, Anywhere With You, and Above the Yangtze River. For our Musicians-Turned-Actor cycle "Two Shot", Madeline, Emilio and Julian are swinging for the fences with an unexpected pair of films - Penny Marshall's 1992 baseball classic 'A League of Their Own' and Olivia Wilde's 2022 release 'Don't Worry Darling', featuring acting performances by Madonna and Harry Styles, respectively. The cohosts are joined by Emilio's pop culture literate sister Maria-Elena to make some connections between these two films, one a unanimous home run, the other... perhaps a base hit. They discuss the ways each film uses and considers their respective celebrity musician's star power, how both films theme of women's empowerment is conveyed to viewers, the small moments characters have that are meant to convey more, and the moments and details that both delight and leave us with more questions than answers. Doris and Mae are a couple, right? And who between these two films appears to be a "gaslighting gatekeeping girl boss" in waiting?Listeners: AS A CHILD, WHAT MOVIE LIVED IN YOUR VCR (OR DVD PLAYER) FOR WEEKS AT A TIME? Liz Slade and Katie (Filmhounds Magazine and podcast) Hogan join Flixwatcher to review Liz's choice Don't Worry Darling. Don't Worry Darling (2022) is a psychological thriller drama directed by Olivia (Booksmart) Wilde written by Katie (Booksmart) Silberman. Florence Pugh stars as Alice with Harry Styles as her husband Jack who live in an idyllic 1950s company town. In the day the men go to work and the wives, including Olivia Wilde as Bunny, Alice's neighbor and best friend and Gemma Chan as Shelley, are left to clean, shop and cook for their hardworking husbands. Strange things start happening to Alice as she begins to question her surroundings and the purpose of Victory. The behind the scenes of Don't Worry Darling is perhaps more exciting than the actual film, from the casting issues to the on set affair and the chaotic press tour it arrived to screens bringing lots of drama. The film failed to live up to its premise and what we got was a shiny but confusing hot mess. Despite its flaws Flixwatcher and guests would still recommend, mainly due to Florence Pugh's performance and Don't Worry Darling scores 3.25 overall. This week on The Analysis, Bob Pantalone welcomes back film fanatic and pop culture critic Brittney Brown for a deep dive into Apple TV's breakout hit The Studio—a smart, satirical rollercoaster produced by and starring Seth Rogen. From Martin Scorsese directing a Kool-Aid Man movie to Bryan Cranston mangling lobster at a blackjack table, The Studio hilariously pulls back the curtain on the chaotic, ego-filled, and often absurd world of modern moviemaking. Brittney and Bob unpack their favorite episodes, dig into how real-life industry pressures show up in the storytelling, and reflect on Rogen's evolution as a creator who's not afraid to make himself the punchline.

We bond over music and relationships, make plans to hit up a gay bar, and explains how she constantly changes up her set on the current Live & Livid Stand-Up Comedy Tour. Margaret opens-up about being nine years sober, why she should be full-time on The View, why DEI was established due to discrimination in the workplace and its reversal is a form of discrimination. It's about money we talk about this money-tested film that made a lot of time at the box office, In Time. It's a very subtle critique of capitalism that surely flew over most people's heads and will be appreciated in another money as one of the smartest movies ever. Just kidding! Really flimsy time/money exchange rates, displaying bank accounts in plain sight, the Robin Hood ending and so much more to be discussed here! Just listen! You've got plenty of money! For years, Alex Gregory has been at the center of some of TV's sharpest comedies, from “Veep” to the legendary “The Larry Sanders Show.” Now, Gregory returns as co-creator and co-showrunner of “The Studio,” a show that's quickly become one of the funniest and most biting satires about Hollywood chaos ever put on television. On the Bingeworthy podcast, Gregory sat down with host Mike DeAngelo to talk about the real stories behind the series, the chaos of the writers' room, and why Martin Scorsese was maybe the best surprise comedic cameo of the year.If you're new to “The Studio,” the show is basically a wild ride through the modern movie business - a satirical look at power, egos, and total dysfunction, starring a crew of execs, creatives, and all sorts of oddballs who just try to keep the whole machine running. Created by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Alex Gregory, Peter Huyck, and Frida Perez, the series is loaded with star power: Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz, Dave Franco, Zac Efron, Olivia Wilde, Anthony Mackie, and plenty more pop up throughout.READ MORE: ‘The Studio' Review: An Incredible Love Letter & Takedown Of The Hollywood Movie Machine

The behind the scenes stories of two films some time in the making come together in this episode, starting with 1993's Jurassic Park. A film made at a point when Steven Spielberg's box office touch was being questioned. A movie that, had a battle for the rights gone the other way, could have been made by one of Tim Burton, Joe Dante or Richard Donner. As it was, Universal and Spielberg made the movie, and the Arnold Schwarzenegger-headlined Last Action Hero was set to go head-to-head with it. 2019's Booksmart meanwhile took ten years to get made, even though its budget was well under $10m. First time director Olivia Wilde had quite the pitch to earn the job behind the camera - but then had a battle to get audiences to the movie once she'd made it. Stories of both are told in this episode... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Hey guys!Britt and Keeshia have spent the entire weekend together and they're the friends that ask you if you can come to Africa tomorrow.Laura shared a story about some of the early days of Marlie's life that aren't quite her best moments! Laura would love to know how many times your kid accidentally rolled off the bed? We unpack the goss from the Wicked premiere! We were interested in how they would approach the PR of the film given the reputational damage that Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater suffered after having a rumoured 'affair.' We wondered whether they would take a 'Don't Worry Darling" approach (Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde) where they kept space from each other in public, or if they would lean in to their romance! There was one line in the movie that we are shocked they kept in!Plus, what would bring you to 'loyalty test' your partner? We speak about the 'how' and the 'why' you may get to a place where you consider conducting a loyalty test. In 2021 Mary Neely and Kareem Rahma met at a Brooklyn comedy show. A week later they found themselves crammed at a downtown restaurant, elbows tucked and leaning forward, deep in discussion about an age-old argument: are men only nice to women who they want to have sex with? A settlement was never reached. Not long after, Kareem posted a still of Mathieu Kassovitz' LA HAINE to his Instagram with the words, “I'm quitting comedy until someone casts me in a dramatic role.” Mary responded, “I'll cast you.” The goal was set: write a joint personal essay, conversing about sensitive topics, and transcribing everything into the structure of a film that would be feasible to produce on a microbudget. Kareem Rahma is a three-time Webby-nominated writer, producer, comedian, and musician. He's also the creator and host of two hit digital series: KEEP THE METER RUNNING and SUBWAYTAKES, which have both amassed 100s of millions of views on TikTok and Instagram. Mary Neely is an actor, writer, and director. She directed and edited the short film PINK TRAILER, which premiered at SXSW, played opening night of Palm Springs ShortFest and was featured in i-D, Paper Magazine, and Refinery29 before being selected by the Milwaukee Film Institute to screen before Olivia Wilde's BOOKSMART in theaters. In this interview, we talk about the role of short form content in their careers, its impact on their work, and the advantages of a DIY approach, the challenges and rewards of self-producing films, the importance of constraints and much more.
